I went with the smoked salmon plate - it was fresh and delicious (however, I didn't need the parchment below the food - it made it hard to cut the salmon or bagel and just made a mess). A group of friends and I arrived at this establishment excited to try this overhyped restaurant in Chicago for the first time and left disappointed. The food? Underwhelming. As well, a bigger table because there were 4 of us. MIND YOU tables were empty and he was refusing to let us move until my 3rd maybe 4th request. We understood the restaurant closed at a certain time. We understood , we would not be able to "microwave" our food if we ordered for them and it was cold. But who says that. That was a first for me. I never knew people would ask for their food to be microwaved at a restaurant that should be serving hot food but OK. We understood very clearly and was very polite with everyone. We honestly should've left and found another place to eat. However, to our surprise everything closes relatively early in Chicago. Anyways , he was very rude and as a business owner myself knowing how to talk to people is KEY. You can tell his employees (2 young females) wanted to help and accommodate us as best as they could but they were SCARED of the owner and his "strict polices". He kept staring at our table from across the establishment at the bar. I don't know what kind of scare tactic that is but NEVER AGAIN. The chalkboard menu reminded me a lot of batters and berries so I wonder if this place is owned or run by one of the former chefs there. They offered a lot of brunch favorites that I typically would like as well as their special menu. But I was really disappointed to see that they were using AI menus. I'm not one of those people who shuns AI for everything but something about AI food menus. I truly do not like because the food does not look like what you actually get. I have been watching The Brunchary for months on tik tok and I finally got the chance to check it out and meet chef Rylon. Overall I enjoyed my food and drinks. But you can tell it gets packed and it's very overwhelming for the staff. At one point there was some miscommunication with the hostess and bar staff about seating, so they had to relocate us. They have outside and inside seating with open window concepts on the side booths (with no bug issues surprisingly). We did not have reservations (they are not on OpenTable, unsure if they do reservations; can double check me though) but were able to be sat right away seeing that it was only 2 people (may have been like 10-15 min wait if not). We were met by our server We started with the Mimosa Flight that came with 4 flavors of mimosas to choose from (Peach, Dragon fruit, Pomegranate, Cranberry), is honestly able to be shared between 2 people as that's what we did but I do recommend getting your own if you are coming there for a good time (one more flight would've gave us a good time if you know what I mean lol); so many mimosa flavors to choose from. They were each amazing in their own way with my favorite being the Peach. For the food, they had a special French toast of the week which was the Oreo-theme French Toast that I wanted to try but could not be due to having nut allergy and they made the specialty French toasts on the same cook station as the other ones that posed a cross-contamination risk. I hate that I missed out on it due to that issue, just something to think about if you have food allergy and wanting to order particular menu items, but I still found an amazing dish, nonetheless. I ordered the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes w/ Loaded Breakfast Potatoes and Eggs (w/ cheese). Pancakes had perfect consistency; they weren't too sweet, which I actually appreciated, and had a butter on the side that was absolutely amazing. The breakfast potatoes had really thick cut bacon bits and had a sauce that was amazing. The eggs were also scrambled well, the cheese was incorporated in chunks which was questionable but didn't really ruin the eggs at all. The meal was good nonetheless; they seem to have very good menu items (overall rating: 9.3/10) Furthermore, I would recommend this place if you want a good Black-owned brunch restaurants with even better drinks and vibes. It is a calm but very good place for social gatherings as well as they have arrays of seating. The service was somewhat timely but still very kind and tended to our needs during our experience. Disappointed with my birthday brunch here. They don't take reservations so we came right after they opened for a Saturday brunch. Restaurant was pretty empty and we were promptly seated. The restaurant is bright and cute inside. For drinks we had the mimosa flight (cotton candy, blood orange, peach, and dragon fruit), blood orange screwdriver, and a lemon drop. I noticed the blood orange mimosa was a different color (as shown in the pictures, looked and tasted like regular orange juice). I brought this to the waitress attention and said I wanted the mimosa redone with blood orange juice. She then brought me a small side glass of the juice about 5 minutes later. I told her again I wanted the drink remade/replaced since it was not blood orange juice in it, not adding more juice into my premixed cocktail. I got the actual drink about 10 minutes after that. This is an example of the type of service we received while there. The actual blood orange mimosa was amazing & the cotton candy one was fun, I definitely recommend. For food we got the strawberry French toast, catfish executive, and the great since 38 special. French toast was good, catfish executive was missing flavor, it tasted like nothing was seasoned, just cooked. Asked for hash browns well done for 38' and they were not so we sent them back and waited almost 30 minutes for the replacement. The service was the most disappointing part of this visit. Waiting over 10 minutes for silverware that should've been on the table, replacement items because items were not made correctly, etc. really put a damper on the experience. We were constantly having to flag down staff because no one was checking in, waited on our check for over 20 minutes, etc. Really wanted to like this establishment as we love to support Black establishments & love the restaurant idea but unfortunately don't think we'll be back. read more

Upon entering, I was actually glad the restaurant was empty (Tuesday morning)-- there were only two other customers eating. The decor were beautiful and definitely set a nice tone. However, the experience was not what I expected. To start, my pop was flat, so I sent it back. The waitress seemed a bit confused and asked if it had gas, it just had no flavor at all. I decided to stick with water after that. We ordered the bacon flight, and the presentation was horrible. Almost all the slices had a burned look, One slice came broken into pieces, and every slice was cold. Needless to say, all of the food that came out was cold -- nothing had any warmth to it. The French toast flight looked beautiful presentation-wise, but the taste was just okay. The raspberry french toast was extremely sweet not enjoyable. The strawberry French toast definitely had the best flavor out of everything we tried. For the restaurant being nearly empty, I expected much better attentiveness from the waitress. Our table never received napkins, so I had to grab some from a nearby table myself. I also never got a refill on my water, and I'm used to restaurants at least offering refills without having to ask. The most bothersome part was having to get up and find my waitress just to pay the bill. I eventually found her eating at the front counter. Will I return? No -- but at least I can say I tried it once. read more

Absolutely love this place. I originally found it on IG. We were able to visit when in Chicago. We did the mimosa flights which were really good. Also the chicken and waffles were amazing. The service was great and the vibe was perfect. Highly recommend checking out this place. read more
