Breakfast was fantastic which lead me to believe the lunch would follow suit. Unfortunately I was let down. If I come back I will definitely stick to the breakfast menu. The service was a bit lacking on a moderately busy day for lunch. For breakfast I went with the North Carolina Style Crab Cakes. The blue claw patties were warm and crispy topped with lemon butter sauce accompanied by two eggs, seasoned home fires and toast. A great deal and everything was awesome on the plate. Flash forward a couple weeks for lunch. Blackened Catfish Po' Boy was a good alternative to chicken or beef. It was slathered with spicy remoulade on french bread. Served with Yankee coleslaw. Sounds like a plate full right? Wrong, it looked as if there might have been something missing (see picture). The sandwich was great, the slaw was limp and off putting. I just wanted a little more with a sandwich, like a side of fries I didn't have to order off the "Sides" menu. Maybe that's what you have to do. The service was full of up-selling attempts but I wasn't that hungry for much more than I ordered. Water glasses sat half full of ice and remained unattended on a hot ass day. So I have to give the breakfast egg-sperience 4 stars but lunch barely earned 3 stars. They have a nice outdoor patio and a large menu. A dish to suit everyone's needs but you may end up wishing for more. read more

Located in the west loop in a nice corner. Never have had any trouble getting a seat when this place is open. The service here is amazing and the food seems to be a mix of Southern and Cajun influences. The atmosphere is pretty low key and it's easy to feel comfortable and just enjoy yourself here. We had the ribs, the catfish, potatoes, grits and shrimp, and something like cajun beignet. While all the former things I thought were normal, but solid southern cooking, the beignet's were amazing. All of my group was pretty stunned by how good they were and the chef came out and told us it was one of his creations. This is a pretty solid place if you're looking for some Southern food in the west loop. I'd definitely eat here again. read more

Always the absolute MUST VISIT, must eat place for breakfast or brunch whenever I come to my hometown of Chicago. The food is so very tasty here and perfectly seasoned. Offers traditional breakfast favorites with a little twist. For example, my favorite meal there is the scrambled eggs, turkey bacon and BLACK BEAN CAKES! This is one of my spots. Granted I don't go out for breakfast a lot, but the food is always good here. A girlfriend of mine woke me up this morning and invited me to breakfast so i said why not. Our main goal for the meal was to go to a restaurant with a bar, this girl always wants to get a drink. Anyways, I've never been here on a weekday, but it was just as good! Not too crowded, just a steady sprinkle of guests. The hostess knew we wanted some mimosas so she decided to sit us by the bar, eventhough there was no bartender. We decided to opt for a table by the windows. ( I like to look outside, see the sun and imagine it's warm out.) anyways. We ordered our drinks straight away and I eventually decided to go with the southern eggs Benedict. The entree arrived pretty quickly and I said,"what did I get myself into?" haha. Seriously, it's a huge bowl piled high with cornbread , eggs, Canadian bacon and thick, tasty sausage gravy. Yes, gravy with sausage in it! Every layer of this dish was a party in my mouth. Although I finished a third of it, it was so filling and hit the spot. On a side note, the grits were a bit undercooked. I like them light, buttery and fluffy. Today they had a little bit of snap to then. The server wasn't particularly spectacular in any way but she did her job. We tried to make her laugh, but she was a bit aloof and would just smile. We actually had more conversation with the ladies at the table next to us. She did go ahead and pack our leftovers for us, which is always appreciated. WOW! I just recently moved here and noticed this place on google maps within the first weekend. I went for a Sunday brunch about a month ago, and still think about the meal and experience I had. Delightful brunch spot. I was a solo diner today who sat at the bar. There were two larger groups there celebrating family events, so I wasn't sure how fast service would be. But, the service was very quick and the food came out faster than I expected. Generous and filling portion of shrimp and grits which was very cheesy and savory. I've had my eye on Wishbone for awhile. I wanted to come here for brunch last time I was in Chicago but didn't get a chance to. It's a little too far to walk from our downtown hotel location so we took a Lyft, it only took about 10 minutes. The place was crowded on a Saturday morning but we were seated right away. Wishbone serves southern style food and I had plenty to choose from on the menu. We opted for the salmon cakes, the Cajun omelette and a half order of the corn flakes French toast. All of the food was excellent. My salmon cakes had a hollandaise sauce that was a little thick but very flavorful, the potatoes were perfectly seasoned and the corn muffins were the right mix of sweet and savory. My husband feel in love with both the Cajun omelette and the french toast. They cook the Cajun seasoning into the eggs that gave it a perfect spicy flavor and the french toast was crunchy on the outside and not overly sweet. Overall score, A. Definitely check out Wishbone if you want some traditional southern flare brunch while in Chicago. read more
