Giving this place 3-stars primarily because the waitress never sat me up and I had to ask another waitress to take my order. My waitress disappeared and I didn't see her again. It's unfortunate because the food was actually good and the grits were what I came for. Happy to know this is Oprah's spot. The tall thin black female waitress i believe she had dreads is attentive and although she wasn't my waitress, she kept checking on me. I ordered the Cajun shrimp and grits with a side of catfish. It was so flavorful and filling. The catfish was cooked to perfection paired with the home made hot sauce. I ordered a side of gravy for my biscuit and it was amazing, thick and delicious. They have freshly squeezed orange juice and the sweet tea is great. The sweet tea does have free refills. My regular selections were the Shrimp & Grits with Bacon -- bacon, shrimp, mushrooms & scallions, sauteed in a white wine cream sauce and served over cheese grits, with a corn muffin, biscuit or toast; and, Cajun Shrimp & Grits -- Spicy chicken andouille sausage, shrimp, mushrooms and scallions in a white wine and cream sauce, served over cheese grits with a corn muffin, biscuit or toast. The wait staff was always knowledgeable and polite, though the no split checks can lead to awkwardness at times. The place at times feels like a big concrete space that is not at all an inviting NOLA experience (this is supposed to be a Cajun fair restaurant). Now that the West Loop is all grown up, there are more comfortable warm dining options like The Oakville Grill & Cellar hence 4 not 5 stars. read more

Wishbone has been my favorite breakfast spot in the West Loop since we moved to the neighborhood over two decades ago. I preferred the Morgan space over the new one on Jefferson. But, I'm thrilled to still have Wishbone here. The menu is fantastic and covers brekkie classics with some southern spin. I'm a huge fan of the country Benedict (think combo with biscuits and gravy) but it's only available for brunch. Chicken sausage hash with over easy eggs was an excellent substitute. Went to enjoy what I thought would be a delicious meal, only to discover hair in my crawfish patties. It was so disgusting and disappointing. That let me know just how nasty this establishment is. I let the waitress know and she wanted to show her manager. She told me the meal would taken off the bill. Of course it should be taken off. Why would I pay for a meal with someone's hair in it. That should happen without saying so. She said that like they were doing me a favor. I was later informed that the cooks don't wear hairnets because the cooks stated that their hair isn't long. Wow According to food and sanitation regulations everyone with hair is supposed to wear hairnets even beards should be covered. They need to be retrained!!! read more

Arrival around 2p on a Friday, they were able to accommodate a table of 8 with no problem. Ordered the Crawfish Beignets as a starter with the Catfish, Double Potatoes and Biscuit to follow. Beignets came out after the meal, which defeated the purpose and they were just OK. The sauce with the Beignets had a kick to it and there are shrimp which accompany the dish. The crawfish doesn't stand out in the dish as you mostly taste the filler they make these with. Catfish was excellent! 1 medium to large filet comes on the entree and I chose the home fries for both sides with the biscuit. Which are so incredibly good that my review would STILL be five stars if the customer service was terrible (try any Chipotle Mexican Grill) or they never picked up their phones (try any Lowcountry store). I first had the shrimp and grits five years ago at a good friend's wedding. They were being passed around as appetizers and I'm not ashamed to say that I probably had eight or nine servings. They were so good. And today, as we are leaving Chicago next week, these friends gifted us a to-go order of the classic and the Cajun shrimp and grits. The classic was loaded with bacon and cream, and the Cajun was also tasty with big bits of shrimp and a tangy Cajun flavor. The original plan was to eat breakfast (I was eyeing the cajun omelet) but we lost track of time. We were greeted immediately and given the choice of high top tables at the front windows or the larger dining room (there's also a patio). We sat at the high tops to get some sidewalk traffic views and sunshine. A gentleman brought our menus and gave us recommendations. Turns out it was the owner, Joel. Meeting him was one of the highlights of our trip. The waiter was along soon to take our orders. Our order consisted of a jambalaya omelette, home fries, pancake, Cajun shrimp and grits (my order) and jambalaya. We ended with key lime pie, which could have been lighter and more tart for my taste. The three of us agreed everything else was great. I could eat here multiple days in a row. I came here with family for a family birthday dinner so you know we ordered a lot of food! Tips that I would recommend is have patience, get ready to yell and repeat yourself. Pluses: the portions and prices are balanced. The staff is always floating around so it's easy to grab the attention of a waiter or waitress if needed. Areas to improve: our waiter should've done a better job with writing our order down for four adults and three small children. There were many moments where we had to continuously ask for things such as extra utensils, napkins, glasses of water and refills, straws and alcoholic beverages. In addition, I would have preferred for staff to recognize when dishes needed to be cleaned off the table to make room for incoming dishes (again the portions are HUGE). I ordered restaurant week meal which included a starter, two entrees and a dessert. I ordered split pea soup, Cajun shrimp and grits, the trout and a strawberry sabayon. My meal arrived on time, the food was presentable, hot, seasoned. My sister in law ordered the crab cake meal with Brussels and sweet potatoes, a glass a Sierra Mist and a salad for starters. My brother ordered the fried catfish meal with sweet potatoes and Mac and cheese. He also threw in a half order of Cajun shrimp and grits. My sister ordered the blackened catfish with mash potatoes and red beans and rice. Also a cup of gumbo. The kids all had servings of Mac and cheese that came with a corn muffin and three cups of apple juice. There were also an order of three alcoholic beverages. (So again LOTSSSSSSSS of food to go around). The sever kept forgetting to bring the Sierra Mist (he stated he didn't hear) and my nephews and niece didn't get their apple juice until half way through their meal. Yikes! All the food was delectable minus the following: (not my opinion. My family's. I enjoyed everything from my plates) The sweet potato side = toooo sweet. Should've been a dessert only Brussels = barely grilled. Should've been more Smokey and cooked Crab cakes = not seasoned at all and a little dry. Best dishes = seafood hands down. The service here is top notch. I had a breakfast meeting scheduled here and I had the wrong time. It was prior to Wishbone's opening time and didn't realize it until I arrived at Wishbone. The stellar staff noticed that the Uber driver had dropped me off and left and offered to let me in and get me coffee almost a full hour before they opened. They were very attentive while they went about their opening tasks. I really appreciate them taking the time to let me come in and get some coffee. I ordered my family Christmas dinner the greens were too salty, but I used the potato trick to remove some of the salt. My biggest complaint was their billing system. I was doubled billed on my debit card and they did not bill the card for 10 days. You have to check your card to see if the amount was deducted even if the amount was not deducted you get an order confirmation number. After a purchase check to see if you were billed or billed again 6 or 7 days later. I'm done with them. Messy read more

I came here for brunch on a weekday, and they weren't crowded. I asked for outdoor seating, but I guess all the tables outside were taken so we had to sit inside. We ordered our drinks not too long after we sat down. My friend ordered the watermelon lemonade and the server asked if she wanted it blended or chunks. She said blended, but when the drink came out, it was chunks. They quickly took it back and remade it. Our server was all over the place. I got the Cajun Shrimp and Grits (half order) and definitely wished I got the full order. Even if I didn't finish it all - I would have taken it home. What an amazing awesome experience. I had reservations for four on Saturday evening the day before Mother's Day. The atmosphere, the music, the food and the service was phenomenal. Appetizers ordered were fried green tomatoes and the shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits were creamy, spicy, with just the perfect texture. I was surprised how mushrooms, shrimp, sausage and grits make a delicious concert of flavors in your mouth. For dinner we had blackened catfish, a vegetarian plate of red beans and rice macaroni and cheese and sauté spinach and blackened chicken. These dishes were prepared perfectly the fish was fresh the red beans were delicious, the chicken was charred perfectly and it was moist. Everything was just amazing. So our family loves bread so with our appetizers we had the biscuits and with our meal we had the corn bread muffins. The chef in the kitchen outdid themselves the biscuits were airy, fluffy and flaky and the corn bread muffins were yummy goodness in your mouth. The wait staff took care of our every needs and the owner was so friendly we felt like we were at home being treated like royalty. I wanted to try the chicken and waffles but that was sold out what a bummer! They have a full bar with lots of drink options. They are following all CDC guidelines with hand sanitizer on all the tables. What I thought was unique is with your phone you scan a barcode on the table and it pops up the menu on your phone. No more touching and handling menus - thoughtful! Prices were super reasonable and for a table of four eating appetizers, dinner and dessert it was all under $140. They used to be located right by the Oprah studio but prices for rent there went up so they moved just a few blocks away with plenty of parking out front. If you want an excellent culinary experience without having to pay astronomical prices then this is the place for you. I will be back to experience the chicken and waffles. read more

Haven't been to Wishbone since they moved to this new location and I was immediately reminded how much I love it here. Came here on a Sunday morning and had a brief ten minute wait which was great. We started with mimosas (as one should for Sunday brunch lol) I loved the variety of mimosas. I ordered the Hurricane mimosa and two did it for me. Generous pours, and great flavor. Honestly my new fave! A MUST try from Wishbone is their 'cajun shrimp and grits'!! Wishbone does it right. At 10am though, started getting busy the rest of the morning and there was a long line so plan on coming early if you wanted to be seated right away! We came to Wishbone for Sunday brunch and shared the Southern fried catfish with collard greens and mac and cheese and the red beans and rice with eggs. The catfish was definitely the highlight. So crispy on the outside but tender on the inside, with great seasoning! I veered outside my typical brunch comfort zone for this one, but I'm glad I took a risk because I really enjoyed it. The mac and cheese was an amazing side -- I would've gotten two of them if I had known! But we ventured for the collard greens, although we weren't big fans. It had some flavor, but I've never been a collard greens person. The red beans and rice didn't look appetizing by any means, but they were very tasty! However, the entire dish was a little mushy, so it would have been nice to have some texture with it, maybe some toasted breadcrumbs. The chicken andouille was amazing, you can't go wrong there.
