Dig Gardens in Santa Cruz has it all: plants, trees, succulents, pots, planting accessories, books, gifts, furniture, cards, and even jewelry.... But did you know they also have classes?!!! I KNOW, RIGHT?!! That's crazy. I thought they had everything, but now they really do! I took my first class at Dig Gardens: it was to make a Kokedama (a plant growing out of a moss ball that you can hang or place). It was taught by Kitty, whom I adore because, well, she's the sweetest. I picked a Lemon Lime Prayer Plant, named it "Stanley", and had to rework it several times to a point that it was almost embarrassing. Thankfully I know the instructor, so that made it better. Haha. The other "students" were awesome because aren't all plant parents and plant lovers the best?!! Well we all laughed when we lost leaves or messed up. It was really fun. This class included all the materials, tools, your choice of plant, and drinks (water or wine). No one surprisingly chose wine - I guess we took Kokodama very seriously! It was a 2 hour class but finished in 1.5 hours. It was around $65 I believe, and totally worth the experience as well as all the materials. Classes take place behind the store in a little workshop in the outdoor garden. Only a couple people took the class with a friend, and everyone else took it solo, like me. 5 stars enthusiastically up!*****. I really really really love this plant store. Who would've thought a home decor/plant store/jewelry store/sunglass store/candle store combo would be the most brilliant & cohesive mashup for the plant lover in me? Take into account, there are more plants & plant related items here than anything in case you're wondering. But that it has a little of all of everything makes it brilliant. There's so much eye candy to browse, I can't stop looking when I'm there & it's seriously difficult to leave. I encourage you to come when you have time, stay a while, relax and let your eyes explore all the goodies & inspo. Besides that, there is so much plants inside & outside, there are lot of different sized succulents & plants to peruse & look at. There's also garden fountains, warmed seat benches, theme coordinated areas, even gardening classes to take. A big plus is, the employees are very helpful & knowledgeable. I highly suggest coming here if you want a nice gift for a plant lover, or if you're a plant lover yourself. Instead of flowers for my birthday this year, I got this super cute cactus called a grafted cactus. It was green, prickly & had these happy yellow buds on the top (see pic). My daughter and I visited this store a few times. Each time the staff was cold and rude besides one stafff member who was always kind. The last visit we bought a few small items and were still treated in cold way. Then today we were asked to not return because of bothering the staff, I asked how and was told she didn't know. This crushed my daughters heart as we were only coming by to drop off a painting she made for the one staff member who was kind and welcoming to her. As a customer you want to feel welcomed when you walk into a shop. I walked in and there was a lack of greetings or even acknowledgement. I stood in line at the register & one of the cashiers looked at me up and down. I already feel out of place because of the racism in Santa Cruz already. But walking into this place and seeing that I wasn't really welcomed here felt unreal. I'm buying plants. I am spending my hard earned money with you and I'm looked at weird for the color of my skin. Really cute shop to get plants, and honestly, all sorts of goodies. It's so much bigger inside than it looks from the street when you pass it by. They have an impressive selection of plants both inside and outside, helpfully sell soil as well, have super cute cards, and just a mish-mash of cute gifts to get people (cute candles, dolls, drink mixers, notebooks, etc.). If you're looking for something, you can probz find it in this store! I walked out with two tiny foliage plants for one of my pots I have at home - they were both $4.99 each. I also bought two really sweet cards for friends - they have a lot of cute thank you, appreciation, and birthday cards. If you can't find one on the wall, look at the rest of them by the register! I also got some soil to pot my plants - $5 for a 4 quart bag. Service was friendly as well, and checkout was easy. The place is very cutely arranged and not overcrowded either. Such an adorable store with a wide selection of plants, succulents, candles, reed diffusers, cards, and more! You walk in and instantly you know you want to spend hours wandering around to find your favorite scents. Definitely a store that helps you curate your house into a home. This place is special. It's the intersection of home decor and nurseries. In terms of plants they appear to specialize in airplanes and succulents. They have an awesome do it yourself airplant/terrarium arrangement section. I made two arrangements for my friends birthdays. In all my time visiting nurseries and home decor stores, I have never seen a DIY station like that before. The rest of the store is an eclectic mix of clean/healthy living and stylish boho type furniture and personal goods (candles, jewelry, kitchen foods, books, etc,). The store and nursery are gorgeous. Fantastic hideaway of seductive succulents and their fern fanboys. A crowd of potted future friends and possible green housebroken housemates are here to greet and cajole visitors to adopt. My cactus is a rescue, some lucky purchaser will proudly say. You, lovers of hearty green growing things know exactly of what I speak. Several different types of orchids- not just the typically available phalaenopsis varieties. House plants galore- most I know but several I've never seen. Mosses and air plants and foliage, oh my! I was so excited to find a healthy Thai Constellation Monstera (2 inch pot, 4 leaves with plenty of speckles but too young for fenestrations yet-$60) that was established enough and also affordable- it's been a wish list plant for years and I finally found a perfect opportunity! Love this place! One of the best stocked and frequently updated plant places near the South Bay and makes the trip to Santa Cruz extra special. Their selection of pottery updates pretty frequently, are unique/local/hand crafted. Ton of sizes, wall/railing hanging ones too! I came in when they just got a shipment of fresh airplants and I liked their simple color coded system for pricing, snagged a really cute fuzzy wuzzy tillandsia tectorum. They make it so easy to get succulents to make your own arrangements! They have little 2.5inch pots and they're some pretty rare items here. Then there's bigger succulent and cacti pots and everything is super well maintained, no pests, messiness. Huge selection of echeveria, aeonium, sedum, hen and chicks, senecio. The rarer houseplants sell out fast! Peperomia watermelon, Hoya kerrii. Best to monitor their social media or online store! They have the cutest magnet/earrings/ home goods too. read more

This store can be a fun place to take family and friends, However... One tiny detal ( actually one huge detail ) I took my niece here because she just graduated from High School and wanted to build a terrarium. ( They let you do that here ) . We were working away on her terrarium ... Um... Sorry but... an actual...LARGE RAT was scurrying on the floor. It was moving very fast along the edges of the store and it was obvious that we were the only folks who noticed it. We left and went to Lens Arts instead. I understand that this place has a very outdoorsy vibe and they probably do not want to install poison traps which are the norm these days, however, we were inside at the time. Also the fact that staff didn't even flinch makes me think they are accustomed to seeing a Rat or two while at work. Thank goodness they don't serve food . WARNING- You can not visit without buying something. Dig is so easy to navigate and I feel like I always find something new each time I visit. On a recent visit I went to find a new indoor plant for my WFH set-up. They have an insane amount of indoor options. But, I found a green-thumb to help me with the most low maintenance plant. I have a brown thumb! (I kill all my plants.) I ended up with a "snake" plant a fun pot. I have since been back for additional plants, pots, seeds and more. Dig Gardens features a plethora of garden themed candles, bath products, decor, kitchen accessories and of course tons of pottery and plants. It's a plant & garden gallery that's just enjoyable to browse in as shop. They also feature stations where you can create succulent or air plant arrangements using the items purchased there. The back patio has a plethora of well priced drought tolerant plants, pottery and outdoor decor. Inside they also sell orchids and small containers for your house plants. I had to walk through a few times just to take it all in. Although I didn't walk away with any purchases this time around, I've got lots of ideas for future garden projects. Anthropologie meets zen vibes all the way! This is one of the best nurseries and gift shops related to plants and all things green I have even seen. Literally I felt in a sanctuary, so beautiful, luscious greens everywhere, pretty healthy plants, lots of light and much bigger than the outside would insinuate. Price wise they are not on the cheaper side, but you can tell the quality of the plants and they don't sell anything ugly or sad-looking. I also liked a lot the large size wood letters that you can fill with succulents and you can form nice word with plants using them as frame, a popular one of course is LOVE!. That was so unique and attractive. They offer classes (the classroom seems to come directly from a Pinterest picture) at various prices and times and another thing that I found very attractive was the jewelry. We were driving up Water st when we saw Dig gardens and decided to stop and go inside. From outside it seems like a small store but once you go in you'll realize it is a pretty good size garden store. They carry good selection hard to find plants,candles, kitchen stuff, patio furniture, fountains, etc. Their prices are on the more expensive side but they do carry higher quality inventory. The personnel were very nice and knowledgeable and would explain exactly how to take care of any plants. This is a pretty fancy looking ace for a nursery. There are individual succulents and pre arranged ones too. The pre arranged ones seem a little pricey but they are very well done and look amazing. The individual ones seem a little pricey too, but the ones here look very healthy. And I saw several varieties that I don't see often. Also saw some that I have never seen before. So that more than makes up for what seems like a price premium. If you're a succulent nut and you're in the area, it's worth popping in. They also have cactus and air plants. First and foremost I would like to say that the customer service here is amazing! They truly care to help people out. It isn't my first time coming to DIG, I've been here many times to purchase succulents which they have a wide variety of. This review is for my experience from today. I had already checked several Home Depot's in my area looking for a bird of paradise plant, they had none. Then I checked my local plant nurseries that had only outdoor bird of paradise plants but none that were healthy looking or raised indoors, which makes a difference in appearance. Then I spoke to Patty over at DIG Gardens on the phone and she helped me locate the plant that I have been searching for. She even texted me a picture of it and it was absolutely beautiful! It was about 4 1/2 feet tall and the leaves were in a healthy, shiny state. I rushed over and bought it. It's exactly what I wanted for my space. read more

Plants need some love. Staff makes you feel like you're interrupting their conversations. (Should probably be giving the plants some love instead) I've been here multiple times and this has happened every time I go up to the register. Just trying to buy plants... sorry to interrupt your conversation with your fellow employees. If this was a one time thing I wouldn't feel this way but it just makes me want to be around the friendly staff at leaf and vine instead of feeling like I'm inconveniencing someone to do their job at this place. I think they need to be more observant when people are near the front counter. Such an uncomfortable experience every time. At least I got a cute $60 plant that needed tons of cleaning up. read more

Their indoor plant room always inspires me to buy plants that challenge my green thumb and I leave Dig buying about 5 more plants than I came in for! They sell everything you need to create a beautiful oasis of plants in your home, from pots to fertilizer. I find their selection of plant containers to be one of the best in the bay area and would come here for that alone. The staff is helpful, friendly, and quite knowledgeable.
