They also have beautiful houseplants, gifts, and gardening tools. Last weekend I bought some jasmine shrubs. A month ago I got a beautiful flat of annuals. This is one big garden store. I never got the chance to experience something like this in Santa Clara County especially near where I live. Unlike a home depot the staff members here are much more friendlier than there. Whatever you need they got it. Well most of the time. I just love this store because of its layout. Two wonderful buildings to shop in. I really like how they have really gorgeous terra cotta pots that have multiple colors on them. Drawbacks: I could appreciate it if they have more small round pots for the succulents because I don't got the time to use a large pot. It was one of the only things that I didn't find when I visited the area. Also some of the prices here are much more expensive because the store is privately owned even though it's affiliated with ACE Hardware. read more

Knowledgeable, kind, helpful, quick, informative... I mean name something you look for in a hardware store and you've got it here. I'd never been to Scarborough before and was feeling overwhelmed and unsure, but I was greeted absolutely immediately with friendly assistance! Several of my questions were immediately answered and an associate was sent to help me to make several key copies. While assisting me, a previous customer of his came back with more questions and the associate was able to help with his issues while helping me, all with a smile. One of my favorite nurseries! I know, I think I say the same about all the nurseries I visit. I just love plants and flowers so much, plus all the cute stuff they sell. Scarborough is an ugly name for such a wonderful place! Tons of plants, super assortment of items in the gift shop and another big store in the back as well. I don't go to Scotts Valley that often, but if you, like me, like to visit this kind of 'pseudo entertainment' places even if just to end with a tiny cactus, do not forget to add this to your list (I got really luscious plants that are looking so fresh and neat at my place). read more

I bought these YESTERDAY. The minute the girl was ringing these particular ones up, she said NO RETURNS. Im so sick and tired of being ripped off by people. These plants looked pretty but they are not healthy. That is not the only problem with Scarborough. I dont know what it is but every other Scarborough have the friendliest staff except for this one. The people are so snotty every single time that i check out. Thats my last visit. read more

Surreal experience! First time I went in, I had a tough time locating anyone to assist me. I purchased a lighting fixture for a gift which has never worked properly. I figure maybe it's the holidays they are super busy... The second time, confirmed staff is only interested in you getting to the cash Register with something in your hand. There's always 3 or 4 employees at the front clucking like chickens but have no time to assist. Heaven forbid if you ask a question, last but not least, old man Scarbourgh theirs a theme here that starts in SV and travels throughout your stores... Your people are not helpful. Get rid of the brown haired uptight and rude female at the SV store... she's not good for business she's not helpful at all and will tell you she's buy... the city is buzzing read more

I honestly didn't know that there are so many species of lavender so I bought one of each kind! I really appreciate the knowledge of the staff and they took the time to educate me about lavender. I need to return to buy an umbrella for my backyard table. They have a great selection to choose from! read more

I hate having to write this review. I'm new to the Scott's Valley area and this is my local garden store. With out going off too much, the staff is beyond unhelpful, untrained and disrespectful on all different levels. The first time I went into the store asking about tomato plants, the lady practically ran me out of the store. This is the icing, when I ask if they offer a military discount the lady said no but if they do a botanical garden association discount so I may want to look into that. I hope the manager of the store reads this and take some sort of action, maybe actually giving employees a class and some instruction. If you are going to have the higher prices then you must have the superior customer service to go with it otherwise it's off to Home Depot, bummer read more

A good nursery (several steps above most hardware stores for sure) but it's not my favorite in the greater SC area. The selection is nice, but not unique. There are some slight slopes that make it a little challenging to navigate the grounds while pushing a cart full of heavy plants. Plus, like most nurseries, it's pretty sparse until mid spring. The real gem here is the HUGE back building. If you need to get a gift in Scotts Valley, look here. They have so much in the way of gifts, for both indoors and out. It isn't displayed as beautifully as Zinnas, but they seem to have more (except that there's no baby stuff or clothes). In the next room there is a large outdoor furniture area (mostly the expensive kind). Know that these warehouse like rooms are FREEZING on a cold day, even thought they have heaters on! It would be so, so, SO nice if this nursery was open later, especially during the growing season. Be sure to check the hours before you go. Many times I've pulled up to find them closed or closing. Using the Ace club card has generated useful coupons and savings. The location is unexpected and kind of hidden in an industrial part of town. Be CAREFUL exiting the parking lot, it's not obvious where the curb ends and the street begins. I've seen people drive off the curb a few times... it's too bad they don't mark it better. read more

We went in to Scarborough Gardens today hoping to get started on planting our front yard. Had a very nice lady helping us then one of the other employees comes up and says another couple has been waiting for her and needs her help. The lady proceeds to walk away from us to go help these other people before she is finished with us. The person the lady left us with was not helpful and we really felt like just walking out.... to say the least we are not sure we will be going back.... read more

I heart Scarborough Gardens. They not only have great selection of beautiful plants, including organic veg and fruit, but also have a sweet little "gift" shop in the back. You can get anything: jewelry, neat kitchen gadgets and dishes, candles, wind chimes, wine glasses... They also have a huge selection of patio furniture next door. Overall very friendly and helpful staff and a very nice store. I needed help diagnosing a pest problem with my ficus, I was told that Bea was the 'expert' and although she was leaving for the day, they would show her the leaves I brought in and she would call me with her diagnosis. Bea called the next day with a right-on diagnosis and treatment recommendation. I went back today to purchase the product and was helped by an extremely nice young man (didn't get his name, but I was there on 8/24 around 11:00 a.m.) who spent time reading labels with me and addressing the concerns I had with the product safety. I love the gift shop here. There are always amazing candles and items for inside the home. I have bought a lot of plants from this location before because out of all of the Scarboroughs' in the valley this one has the best selection. I only support the local nurseries and this store has a great variety of native plants and plants that survive dry Scotts Valley or shady mountain areas. Over the last couple of years the veggie and herb section has shrunk down to practically nothing, but they still stock the usual varieties you find at a bigger store in Santa Cruz in the spring. The prices on plants are a little higher than larger stores because they have to compete. All in all, great place for gifts, and a good place to buy plants in the area. read more

Went there with three small kids, who were eager to grow and wanted everything in the store. Got a great visual tour of where everything was, spent time getting me the right products for the right purpose. Think her name was "Linda" but I'm bad with names, however she wears bright green keen shoes on occasion. They know their stuff and do not at all over sale. Will never go anywhere else. I really enjoy this place. They have a good selection of succulents, which are my favorite. The best thing about Scarborough is that there is a gift shop with pots, so I can buy a plant and then immediately find a pot for it. The staff is friendly and relaxed, also knowledgeable (at least to a novice gardener). My only complaint is that the prices are a bit higher than other nurseries, particularly the small cacti, but the plants are very nice. read more

I drive from the Carmel area to go to this nursery. Top of the line quality and selection of plants. Helpful, friendly staff. Be sure to check out the indoor garden shop in the back. They stopped carrying Annies Annuals, but as I mentioned, lots of other nice selections. I purchased a new hose holder this past weekend, nicely done in dark brown, large with a basket weave design. It was $70 which I thought was expensive, but I like shopping there and wanted to support them. Lo and behold, when I went to Costco this week there was the same hose holder, and guess what, it was also $69.99. read more

I like to shop around at the various garden centers in my county. Scarborough is one I enjoy. Until today. After spending a lot of money, time, energy, it turns out that 2/3 tomato plants that I purchased there in May were mislabeled. (4-inch pots). One of the employees returned my call and I was told that they were mislabeled at the grower, which is plausible. I remarked that she must have had other complaints and she said, "Well, you can't really tell when they are little." Huh? Isn't that why they are labeled to begin with? Otherwise why label them at all. I do not want/need the plants that I have, so they will be recycled. And I don't have the tomatoes I needed for canning. She did offer me 2 standard tomato plants, but I declined. How would I know what they were? There's no guarantee at Scarborough. read more
