STAY AWAY - Send them a bag for cleaning, came back painted a completely different color. They claim that they told "it known that cleaning and painting is the same thing". Which is absurd. If you care about your stuff, stay away from this place. Contemplating a small claims suit at this point. Owner is a bully. They charged my card without authorization. Will be appealed with Amex. UPDATE 11/1: They are now forcing us to pick up the item from Skokie despite the fact that we had originally agreed to pick it up from downtown. I took an expensive sweater to Without a Trace that had sadly been chewed up by moths. When I brought in the sweater they said that the reweave may be visible, but I was pretty disappointed by the outcome which seems much worse than what they said would be possible. I paid about $75 for the repair and in the state that it came back in, it's as unwearable as it was with the hole. read more

I heard a rumor that Burberry sends all of their repair work here, so I tried them out. I had them repair 3 bags for me - a 10 year old Burberry, an 8 year old Louie and a Tory Burch. They each look brand new now - I saved a lot of money by having them repair my bags rather than replace them. They are currently working on a 4th bag of mine. I had a very bad and disappointed experience. Please do NOT send authentic Louis Vuitton or other designer bags to him. I had a Louis Vuitton that was in bad shape. I send it to without a trace to see if they could fix it. He said he could and I would be happy with the results. It was my mistake to trust him. I thought that a professional leather repair business would understand about maintaining the authenticity of designer bags. However, after paying 300 dollars and receiving my purse I was in shock. Not only did my purse look like somebody just took a brush and painted over it, but the yellow lining is also gone. My purse looks like a bad fake. Very poorly done. When I contacted him he said his work was great and to not contact him again. I will attach pictures for proof and not only my word for it. Again. Do not trust him. He sounded legit and nice. I have found each interaction with 'Without a Trace' to lack any trace of professionalism or service. The staff I encountered not only refused to provide me any information, but comported themselves in an appallingly crude manner and verbally insulted me. They claim excellence in their skill and it seems another Yelper managed to have a good experience, but there are plenty of professional (non-dry cleaner) re-weavers that will treat you like a customer, won't overcharge you, and will leave you satisfied with your garment and your service. The customer service at Without a Trace is only shadowed by the unbelievably good job they did on my suit pants. I had a substantial hole and tear in the back pocket of my suit pants. They fixed it within 24 hours of me dropping it off since I needed the pants rushed for a wedding that weekend. Solid service! I had about a 3 inch tear in a jacket I had custom made in the UK. The tear had originated out of a seam but then continued into a non-seam area for a good inch and a half (which was the part I was most worried about). I filled out the form on the website and mailed it out to their place. Because I had initially had the length of the sleeves made slightly to long I also requested that they shorten the sleeves by an inch on each side. They quoted me under $100 for the entire repair + alteration. It was important to me that it stay around $100 because the entire investment in the custom altered original jacket was about $350 so it wouldn't make sense to invest any more than that. Before they even started the work they gave me a call to ensure that they interpreted my request for the sleeve shortening correctly and also gave me a realistic idea of what to expect based on the type of leather jacket I had sent in and the tear it had. They waited to charge my card until they started doing the work and the fee came out to about $112 (slightly more than the $100 quoted but obviously that was an additional shipping fee, when the jacket arrived the invoice for the actual work itself showed $96). I'm sure a lot of their customers will complain about the turn around time but given the sheer load of jobs they have to go through, I would consider 2 - 3 weeks a very respectable turn around time. The quality of the repair was great. You have to specifically be looking for the exact area of where the repair was done to be able to see anything and even then your face has to be about a foot away before you'll see anything. One of the areas in which these guys truly succeeded were managing expectations - with some materials they can almost guarantee that you won't be able to see the repair at all and it will be flawless (such as with certain types of reweaving), but with leather the results can vary depending on the type of tear and material. Because they gave me a realistic expectation I knew there would be a very small visible repair area I could live with. As far as the sleeve alteration - perfect job, they shortened the sleeves while maintaining the excess material inside so if I ever need to let them back out again for any reason I can. Bottom line - I went from having an unwearable $350 customized leather jacket hanging in my closet to a wearable/repaired/altered jacket for $116 total out of pocket, much cheaper than having to purchase a new one entirely! read more

I have had so many things repaired, resized, and/or cleaned by Without A Trace that its hard to remember them all. Recently they recreated a pair of tassels, which I lost, on a Burberry purse and you would honestly never know they were replacements. It was perfect match. They have gotten ink out of a leather Hermes purse. They have cleaned to perfection UGG boots. I recently lost weight and they were able to resize my Italian leather coat, a fur jacket, and a wool jacket. You would think I bought them in the new sizes. I am always amazed and pleased with the meticulous quality of their work. They are extremely personable and you almost feel like family when you work with them. Nonpareil. (is that too fancy for Yelp?) Without A Trace reweaves damaged fabric and knits, and does it better than any dry cleaner or tailor in the city. My husband caught his very fine gauge Italian sweater in a coat zipper, tearing a dime-sized hole in the chest. He took it to our local cleaner, which promised "invisible" reweaving. They essentially sewed the hole shut, leaving an obvious clump of fabric in its place. A fashionista friend recommended Without A Trace. The wool color was an unusual orange-red but Without A Trace either had it in stock or custom-dyed yarn to match. The repair is undetectable unless you get within three inches of it. This service doesn't come cheap, especially for custom jobs like ours. However, the staff at WAT contacted us to get our approval for the price. If it's a beloved item of apparel, the repair cost is well worth it. read more

One of my husband's favorite suits suddenly had a small hole in the back of the jacket. He was so disappointed. After doing some research, I found that Without a Trace provided a reweaving service. I contacted them with a few questions and received a reply the same day! I sent the jacket to them and was contacted with a quote before they started the repair. Without A Trace is the end product of talented, helpful people committing to providing a great customer experience. If you have a garment in need of repair that you don't want to part with, this is definitely where you should go to have it repaired. I had a lovely wool and cashmere Cesare Attolini sports jacket partially eaten by a carpet beetle. This was a Prince of Wales check, with a 1cm - 2 cm hole in the upper right chest area. So there would be no hiding or cheaply mending the hole to make the jacket look right. I was convinced the jacket was a loss but it was expensive enough to at least try to repair it. The internet said Without A Trace was a good place to look for help, so I gave it a shot. I received a call after they evaluated my jacket, and they set my expectations that they would do their best, but give the complexity of the weave, they didn't think they could get it to be seamless, but it would be wearable. The price they quoted was worth it - far cheaper than buying a new sports jacket - so I commited to having them do the work, hoping the work would be good, and I could wear the jacket again in the company of people who don't have a great eye for detail. About three weeks later I received the jacket and it was so fantastically well done, I couldn't remember where the hole had been. I had to carefully feel the fabric all over for differences in the texture and, eventually I found the seam where they patched the fabric. So I studied the area. Carefully. I looked for variations in the lines of the check, the specks in the weave of the fabric, and anything else that might be off. Maybe I found a difference, but maybe I found what would be a natural variation based on how the fabric had been woven. Who knows? The point is, you would never notice. When I wear the jacket, sometimes I catch myself feeling the seam of the patch just to remind myself that it is there, and only I will ever know. It's like an inside joke that only me and the talented people at Without A Trace know. read more

These folks are miracle workers. I'm not sure how you can have a bad experience at Without A Trace. I found the staff to be helpful. No problems. I own a number of very fine suits. A Giorgio Armani, a Ralph Lauren, and a Jay Kos. Each of these suits coast an average of $3000. Yeah I know it sounds crazy but the work I do represents an investment in the way I look. So you can imagine how I felt when I snagged my Kos on some metal on a escalator. Carzy Mad. ! Getting a hole in a $3000 suit is like having your car door ripped off it's hinges. Without A Trace took fabric from inside my pants, took each thread out and reweaved them where the hole was. No more hole! Garment repaired. $3000 suit saved. That's a beautiful story. These guys do not do what other tailors do which is sew the whole together. What they do must be a European Art because you would have to have real patience. Had buttons and sleeves adjusted by my tailor and noticed that there was a nailhead size hole in the sleeve. He recommended that I send it to Without a Trace in Chicago to see if they could french weave it. I contacted Linda and she advised me on the process and cost. I sent it to her and kept my fingers crossed. She kept me appraised of the process and could not have been more friendly. Today, my brand new $3,000 Ermenegildo Zegna jacket arrived. If they had not marked the area where it was repaired, I would not have been able to find the area of repair. I have had my coats stored at Without a Trace for 8-10 years, and was pleased at first. However, I have found the owner to lie, as if there is no tomorrow, and to be crude, disrespectful, a badgering bully, and an obnoxious oaf! His prices fluctuate on a whim. After agreeing on a price for a repair via phone, the price went up, when it was time to deliver the coats. He charged me for hook repairs on two coats that were never done, and then denied that I requested them. Finally, he damaged one of my coats, which he, of course denied. The last straw, he scheduled a pick-up for my coats, showed up 2 hours early, and left an outrageously disrespectful, insulting message on my voicemail. Then, as further harassment, he called my home as a "private caller," at the time that he was supposed to pick up the coats. He is a narcissist to think that after setting an appointment, people should be at home "on command," because he showed up two hours early. He lies profusely, has no regard for others, and is rude. Last but not least, he is a shyster of the first water...businessman with no scruples. Don't do business with him! After going on Yelp, I see that others have had the same experience. I had purchased a high end leather bike jacket which fit like a dream except the sleeves which were a bit too long. The jacket hung on my rack for almost a year, looking great but unworn, before I found "Without a Trace". Upon contacting them I found them to be very responsive and explained the process to me. I sent them the jacket...they were responsive when I called....gave me the straight scoop whether it was what I wanted or not and this allowed me to make a decision. They took a $5 thrift store sweater and turned it back into the $700 cashmere sweater it was meant to be. Including shipping and original cost I spent around $80 for a stunning, name brand cashmere sweater thanks to Without a Trace. There is no trace of the holes (three!) and the sweater looks nearly perfect. The two smaller holes you would never find-ever! The largest hole shows a tiny bump where the repair was made but I think that with wear the tiny raised area will go down. Even if it doesn't it looks like maybe a wrinkle, certainly not damage. I will use them again. I was a bit unsure if it was a good idea to use a mail order service when I could not touch the work and see it first hand, but this is a dying art and there are few who do it well. If I had asked my local dry cleaner to give it a try it never would have looked so good. read more

Since I was traveling to Chicago in next two months delivered pants to Bryn Mawr location and left them requesting estimate. Call back was prompt Monday morning. Had other estimates from tailor in NC who stated it was too much work for her. So price was in line. I had two jackets with issues. One of them (a recent Christmas gift for my son) had a large "U" shaped tear where the sleeve caught on a tree branch and it appeared to me to be unrepairable. The other jacket is over 10 years old and a wonderful style that I haven't seen again, so I was actually hoping it could be taken apart and used as a pattern for a new one (it is so worn and had a large "U" shaped tear where my son's thumb had gone through the leather when he was taking it off one day). Too many words to describe my resignation that nothing could be done (according to a local leather shop where I live in North Idaho). My review can't speak for the quality of their work, as I actually did not have "Without A Trace" do any work on the hole in the pocket of my dress pants. However, the woman who I spoke with when I walked into their shop was incredibly nice and willing to explain everything for me. I didn't expect this at all after reading some of the reviews on this site. Anyways, I brought my pants in to see if 1) they could fix them and 2) how much it would cost. I was very kindly greeted when I entered and showed the woman my issue with the pants. She asked me if they were suit pants or dress pants and asked me how much I paid for them. (I can't remember exactly, but the pants were somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 from Jos. A Banks.) She said that their service costs $92, so it really wouldn't be worth it unless I loved the pants. I agreed. She was still willing to show me what they would have been able to do to fix them, which was at least good information to know for the future. All in all, I experienced quick and excellent customer service, and I would definitely go back for any other issues with a more expensive item of clothing. read more

Picked up a pair of suit pants and an overcoat today (made of a synthetic material but very expensive to start with)after they were repaired. Both had burn holes that needed to be fixed. I dropped the items off 1 1/2 weeks ago expecting that they could repair the pants but not the coat. I dropped it of on a Saturday and they said they would call in a few days with an estimate. They called a few days latter with the estimate and details of what they could do. I agreed to have the items fixed. After looking at the completed repairs I am very impressed. I had reservations about sending my suit coats to a company I had never dealt with before, but it turned out to be a great idea. I had two jackets that had small holes in them. A pinstripe Armani suit coat with a 1/8 hole in the shoulder and a John Varvatos tuxudo jacket. Both were purchased new and I expected to have them for a long time. They explained the process over the phone, I mailed them the suit coats via insured UPS, then they gave me a call. The woman I spoke to on the phone was very helpful and explained that the suit coat would be an easy fix, but the tux jacket was actually moth damage and it would require a more involved repair and might not look good when it was done. It was a different type of repair that would leave a visible backing fabric. I could not be happier with the service. They were friendly to deal with, always remembered my items when I called and talked to me about the options to repair the tux. (I had to think about the Tux repair for a while before I decided not to do it) I got the items back yesterday and the hole in the suit coat is gone and the repair is invisible. I am going to live with the moth damage on the tux since it is in a inconspicuous place and they thought the repair would actually be more noticeable. I highly recommend this company to fix small holes in expensive clothes. My total bill was a little over $100 including shipping and that is small price to pay to allow me to wear this suit again. read more

I had a crochet dress that I snagged and it started to unravel I shipped my dress to without a trace and spoke to a very friendly women when they received it. I was told the turn around time would be 4 week I was going on a cruise and really wanted to get this dress back in time for my vacation and she told me they would put a rush on it and get it done and ended our conversation with "have a wonderful cruise" She promised me 3 days before I needed to leave which made me nervous due to snail mail but I took a chance anyway.
