Spent a lot of money to purchase the better lenses. Had to do the surgery twice. Vision is not what as what they said it would be

i don't write reviews often but, i have going to Dr.Witlin since 2006 with my wife and friends and family members. The staff here is actually worse than Dr Worthington. So they have no professionalism and obviously don't know ho2 to bill the insurance companies. I haven't been there in over 2 years and out of the blue Randi calls me telling g them I have an outstanding balance of less than $15. Aggressively threatening me that she will put it in as a bad dept if I don't pay it over the phone. I explained how I have no idea what she is talking about and asked her to send me a bill explaining why there is a balance, how much was billed and how much was approved. Never Saw anything and then Randi keeps calling me and being very aggressive trying to collect " a bad debt". This is so unprofessional and borderline harassment. Don't waste your time read the reviews and don't be fooled by the very few positive reviews from friends in the field. read more

My husband and I visited Dr. Worthington back in July when he had a freak accident playing basketball and left him with two scratched corneas, two days before the NJ Bar exam. The front office was extremely accommodating with fitting us in after our 4 hour drive up from Virginia. I had heard numerous great things from family members about Dr. Worthington and we were very thankful to be able to get in to see her. Her level of care was amazing, she was very thorough and was so flexible seeing my husband between testing days to help administer eye medication and change the contacts on his eyes. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for emergency or routine eye care! read more

There was a serious issue with scheduling! I called to make an appointment with an ophthalmologist and they made an optician appointment. So we had to go another month out to see a doctor. When the day of my appointment arrived, I had a 12:30 appointment and I was sitting in the waiting room until 1:30. A tech brought me to an examining room to perform some tests and she didn't know how to do them so had to go find someone to show her how to do it. I was asking for explanations as they were working and they were unable to explain. I finally got to see the doctor after two hours. He seemed to have no idea of the reason for my visit and when I corrected him, he quickly gave me a reply which did not address any of my concerns. I do not recommend this office. read more

So many tiers before you actually speak with an attending doctor and it feels rushed when you get to that point . And don't expect a call back from a doctor if you request .Someone ie worker will call back and be the median between you and a doctor . Went to Witlin eyecare because of good referrals from 3 residents from the Independent Living building in which I also reside. BOY WERE THEY WRONG! Seems this office cares more about money than their patients. After numerous exams for a cataract problem in my right eye, was told I needed Lasik to remove cataract but my insurance would not cover it. Would cost $1700. Was also told by Dr. Desai and Kim (Office Manager) they have a 2 year payment program, (about $!00) per month) Being on Social Security Retirement, I could afford that price. Promised no glasses for objects farther away than a computer. Improvement however was negligible. After Within told me I had misunderstood, that he'd said no such thing, and that I should've paid for the more expensive multifocal lenses (which would likely have left me still dependent on reading glasses). The results in fact were only marginally better than it would've been if all I'd had done was the removal of cataracts. The implant procedure wound up costing me $1000. The cataract surgery was covered by my insurance. Now I wear the same progressive glasses I wore before the surgery. Had I been told that there would be negligible improvement I could have saved myself the money. Get the expected results on paper before you proceed with the operation or you too will be told you 'misunderstood' what the results would be. Witlin is irritable but the staff is pleasant and knowledgeable. read more

My name is Dr. Jay Zand and I have been an Optometrist in NJ for about 28 years. I have looked at thousands of eyes in microscopes after procedures and there is no question that Richard Witlin is a one of the most gifted and skilled surgeons in the tri-state area. By the way this is not only my professional opinion, but shared by any other eye care professional who is familiar with his work. Perhaps that is why over 250 other eye doctors pay to attend a day of lectures he gives once a year, and countless others attend his lectures at different conferences across the country. In my opinion his work suggests not just competence but also a gift. His results just have this clean look. When seeing patients there is a lot patients bring to the table. They can smoke, be diabetic, have uncontrolled hypertension, as well as macular degeneration that can affect over all outcomes. So not every patient gets perfect results on every procedure. However Richard's outcomes are about as perfect as one could expect given any patient's circumstances. I actually went on to Yelp to see what the publics perception was of a very competent Ophthalmologist, and compare it to what I know professional's opinions are within the industry. Dear Dr. Witlin, Here I am 2 years later from the time you did my cataract surgery and you inserted the wrong lenses that I paid $ 1000 for and told me it was my error, although I have documentation stating I would need eyeglasses only for reading or other close up work. My nearsightedness would be corrected. So now I am having a problem with my right eye vision only to find out I need a yag laser to correct. August 2016 will be a year I will not forget. We all make mistakes, but it takes an honorable person to own up to it. You did not do this and blamed a third party. All I wanted was the $1000 I shelled out for something I did not want and you wanted to charge me $5700 to correct your mistake with laser surgery. read more

Would never go back to this place... They called me 3 days pre op to tell me the surgi center wouldnt accept me because of a "RECOVERED" heart issue i have... my cardiologist cleared me.. sent all the info over they requested and still declined me for the surgery.. so leave a patient blinded with a bad cataract.. i informed aetna how unprofessional they behaved.. my cardiologist and myself are at a loss for words... you don't cancel a surgery 3 days prior after you made the patient get a covaid test.. quarantine.. my husband took the week off work... NEVER have i dealt with this degree of unprofessionalism.. i think they did myself and my eyes a big favor.. because in all honesty.. could not trust a practice that does this to any patient who needed the surgery.. and was no reason to not have it.. medically speaking i am stable.. so there is no reason what so ever to cancel.. i have a good mind to report this to the board as well!! i will let Costco and Aetna know what was done here... how dare your surgi center SECOND GUESS my Cardiologist who has 42 years of practice and knows me personally as a patient for over 12 years!! Whitlin Eye Center almost ruined my eyes. After eight months of torture undergoing shoddy, called-in Glaucoma treatment in 2016, I escaped and went where they genuinely cared about my well being. In those eight months, Dr. Whitlin saw me once, for less than two minutes. I was shuffled off to a woman that was not even an ophthalmologist and she proceeded to put my on an extended sick trip. I ended up needing cataract surgery and my vision is currently poor all because I made the poor decision of trusting them. Steer clear of this office, you'll be glad you did. read more

Today I had an exceptional experience while I was treated for an emergency with my eye. From the minute I walked in the door I was greeted with a hello and smile from Kim and the staff at the front desk. I was escorted back to the room and interviewed by one of the nurses and finally met by Dr. Desai who was probably one of the best doctors I've had in years.. if you or your family are in need of any kind of eye issues or emergencies I highly recommend the Witlin Center in East Brunswick NJ .. read more

Also if you want a doctor that will take his or her time to make sure you are getting the best correction possible before they change your vision permanently and make promised they won't keep. Dr Worthington diagnosed and treated my dry eye. The irritation tended to remain at fairly steady level throughout the entire day at times. It would occasionally escalate, causing sudden sharp pain that fade quickly but seemed to last forever because the eyes would burn and stinging often. It is a blessing to wake up and not have to reach for eye drops or for pain medication daily and not have to deal with my anxiety caused by the pain with my eyes. I commend you for your superior wisdom for details and your expertise in your profession. I also commend you for your exceptional professional staff that you have. Everyone that I talked to or came in contact with was very polite and very professional. This contributes to your expertise to details. I know I was a very stressful individual when it came to dealing with me and my constant calling to the office with my many questions; especially when you are dealing with my eyesight and what could have happened. I was very nervous because my eyesight is my livelihood and without my eyes, I could not drive or preform my job to a level required. Dr Worthington is worth her weight in gold! Terrible doctor-patient relationship. My father was denied acute treatment by Dr. Witlin after going to his office for over a decade. When he arrived for his scheduled procedure, he was sent home (without rescheduling!!) on the basis that he did not have an interpreter. He was seen in the office by multiple doctors for many years and never required an interpreter. (If he needed one, by law, it was the doctor's responsibility to provide one -- Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)). When I called the office, my request to speak with Dr. Whitley was denied. The matters were handled by the office manager, Ms. Griffith. She informed me that it is not the interpreter that was necessary, but presence of me or my sister during the procedure. I live in Philadelphia and currently work in Maryland. My sister is in Boston. My father is a completely independent person who makes his own medical decisions. He is not my dependent, I am not his next-of-kin (my mother is) or a POA, and therefore, legally, my presence at his procedure is not necessary. Now my father is walking around with an untreated eye infection due to this completely illegal requirement. I'm sending my father to ER, and contacting my lawyer for delaying my dad's medical care and putting his vision at risk. Avoid this practice, if possible. read more

It's a shame that a few negative postings could bring down this Fantastic office's rating. The doctors and staff are very pleasant, informative and helpful and made my whole surgical experience very tolerable. There are alot of options and patient involment in the decision making process and contrary to what some others say, everything was explained to me and ever patient I heard book surgery. There will always be some people who have something bad to say and they are always the ones to post things and when people are satisfied they generally just talk about it to others. This doctor has been in practice for over 30 years and done thousands of surgeries and restored vision to so many people! Totally recommend them. read more
