Thrilled we stopped here for a bite driving across the state on 29. It popped up as a restaurant option on our GPS when we looked for a lunch stop. It's a small town diner that was clean, had friendly service, and tasty food. They took my peanut allergy seriously. The Brunch Burger was excellent. It is usually topped with bacon, a fried egg, and cheese. I skipped the cheese, added mushrooms, swapped a gluten free bun, and chose green beans as a side. It was a fantastic lunch. One thing that stood out was that the burger patty meat was flavorful. My husband had the Chicken Parmesan sandwich. It was delicious and not greasy like those can sometimes be. Fries were fine but he'd consider another side next time because there were lots of great options. If we are in the area again, we'd plan to come back. The daily specials and Friday fish fry caught our attention. One thing to note: it seems like they are closed on Tuesdays. read more

We stopped on our trip 'up north' for breakfast at the Wittenberg Family Restaurant. I order their veggie omelette with hash browns with no salt and it was awesome. Perfect. A lot of fresh cut veggies with tons of garden fresh flavor. My wife also loved her breakfast choices. Great service, very friendly and accommodating. This is a small town time capsule dinner. The staff is seasoned veterans. The food was cooked to order. They have a classic lunch counter with They only serve biscuits and gravy till 11 so that is a good sign, sadly I missed them. I had the meat lovers skillet. The coffee was a bit weak bit I did come in after 12. The pancake was good, and worth the 1.00 up charge for getting it after 11. Our first stop here, but Wittenberg was always a stop from SE Wi. To the Rhinelander area as a child. That was over 70 years ago and the town looks like time stood still. That is actually a GOOD thing since the world definitely has not! Stopped to grab a bite here and was pleasantly surprised. Stopped for lunch, was not real busy. Food was OK, but both waitresses were let's just say NOT very personable. When we asked for BBQ sauce for a chicken sandwich it was basically tossed on our table as she walked by. Never even asked if we wanted a refill on our soda. My wife and I came to Wittenberg Family Restaurant to take a ride and try somoehere new. I was worth the drive, we enjoyed our self a lot. The setting was very comfortable, and the food was very good. Wittenberg Family Restaurant December 2021 This was our second time at this restaurant (we don't live in town). We remember being pleased last time and we weren't disappointed. Everything was excellent. The food was hot, tasty and quick (a melt, chicken fingers, fries and soup) and the portion sizes were good. The place was clean, nice and homey. You got real silverware and plates and decent sized napkins. So many things that other restaurants have left along the wayside. I would say we would definitely go back, except for our waitress. She was older, thin and had a tatoo(s). If you get her, ask for someone else to wait on you because she was so unfriendly, she made us very uncomfortable and unfortunately, how awful she was, was all we could talk about when we left. Not the good food, the wonderful retro atmosphere, the great prices, etc . She does not belong in the hospitality field and will drive people away. I would almost say we found our new favorite restaurant, but if we go back and she waits on us again, it will be the last time we ever go back. read more

We were in this beautiful area for the weekend and went for breakfast on Monday morning. So many different and unusual options and our food was delicious. There were 4 of us. However the restrooms were a different story. Latches on doors didn't work, rusting stall divider, just unkept and downright skussy . Toilet it self was clean. Husband said the urinal was out of order & filled with pee in mens. We were just totally surprised because the restaurant itself was so clean and cute. read more

Great breakfast spot in Wittenberg. It was raining at our camper so we thought we would go find somewhere nice for a great greasy spoon breakfast and we found it. It looks exactly like you would expect for a diner. Great menu selection! The coffee was fabulous and so were the pancakes. I was excited to try the Neuskes bacon and it was terrible. Not the bacon I'm used to..it was really thick, chewy, and burned but everything else was great!! Close to the highway so that's a plus too. Walked right in and there was a place to sit. read more

What a nice surprise! After reading Yelp reviews we decided this would be s good place for breakfast on our way between Wausau and Green Bay. I agree with other reviewers. Normally I would say this is an excellent place to eat but tonight it was a different story. I ordered a burger and my girlfriend ordered the Chicken Ala King. A little bit of a risk but she hoped for the best. It arrives and it is very good until she finds a hair in it. So the waitress apologizes and asks if she wants something else and she asks for another cup of soup. Soup is good as always. Now my girlfriend owned a restaurant and knows that these things can happen. However doesn't state law require hairnets in the kitchen.Here's our problem. The owner is in the restaurant but doesn't apologizes even when we pay the bill with her. Charges us for her soup, salad and soda which in our opinion would have been a small amount for her to give up to try to make things right. So will we be back...probably not. There's Vinal Street Tavern right down the road and Chet and Emil's the other direction. read more
