This is a great local favorite. Portions are sooooo large and variety on menu is amazing. Everything is great. I recommend the burgers but breakfast and steak dinners are very respectable Come with the whole family. With being a Truck Stop you would expect some what descent food. Waitress was not very good ask for our drink order, I order water and a coffee my wife ordered a Pepsi. Brings our drink no straw set the drink down walks away. If the place was busy I would understand but there was our table of 2 and another table of 2, so not busy. We ordered deep fried mushrooms- these were good, wife finally gets a straw. I ordered a Philly chicken sandwich and their Calico Baked Beans. Wife orders deep fried walleye with fries and coleslaw. Walleye dish looks really good, the French fries and coleslaw were not bad, but pretty average. Walleye looked amazing nice size nice breading, but that is were it ends. Now when you have fish you expect the occasional bone or two, not this one every single bite she take has one to two bones in it. After 4 bites my wife is done. Onto my meal, calico beans was bush's baked beans knock off. Calico means multiple types not just navy beans. Philly chicken sandwich was barely average no flavor at all. Now to my coffee, truck stops usually have good coffee, nope not here I am pretty sure it was warm tap water with some cigarette ashes for color. Waitress never came back to check on us - must have been busy with the 2 tables. Go to leave she comes up to the cash register and ask how was everything, my wife who never and I mean never complains say that was the worst deep fried fish and you guys should look into getting a different supplier for your fish. Waitress "oh I'm sorry that will be $41.58." Her tip brought the final bill to $41.58. Only stop for the gas station connected to it, stay away from the restaurant. read more

Visited on August 19th. Ordered the buffet. While I was eating, I found a big long nasty hair in my food. I discreetly brought it to their attention and I guess they switched out the food in question. When I asked for some kind of compensation on my bill, I was basically told all they could do was discount my soda. Personally, for such a nasty discovery, I think my bill should have been completely refunded. I was told to come back and talk to the owner the next day. So I did, but the owner didn't come out to talk to me, just sent a manager to tell me basically there was nothing she could do and she actually seemed kind of irritated that I even bothered to come back! So this negative review could have been avoided by a simple $14 refund! read more

Excellent breakfast. I was worried about all the other reviews but I can now give my own. This is a nice clean well priced restaurant. We had breakfast and it was very good. Better than any breakfast chain out there. The waitress was nice and the service was top notch. The menu is huge. It doesn't offer fresh homemade breads which you can't find at Denny's. Will stop here more often. Oh and anywhere there are trucks the food is good. read more

This was first but likely last visit not bcuz I don't believe in 2nd chances but I am very confused by the huge disparity in reviews. The one star reflects good bcuz of the waitresses. Can't figure out why there is about equal 1* and 5* ratings with nearly 300 total reviews. I understand why now. Being a truck stop location with a small hotel adjacent and the only restaurant nearby their audience is essentially captive. That being said I usually subscribe to the old adage, "go where all the cars are parked". I managed a restaurant for several years, my wife did so for 22 of 25 years in a large city so we notice all things hospitality business related. We were seated by a very pleasant evening crew about 7:45, closing at 9:00. The waitress was very pleasant and engaging. She "had me" at "hand made fresh" when we ordered two chopped steaks, medium rare (pink, warm, industry standard about 140° internal temp, pink, juices present), baked potato, sour cream, salad, cabbage soup. She went to put order in but BEFORE the soup and salad ever arrived up in the waitress station I went to the front and asked her to only put order in as we were finishing the prelude items if she wouldn't mind. This is a better establishments' procedure and precludes cold food before you finish soup and salad. She said "ok". She arrived at the table several minutes later, still prior to 8:00p.m. to put soup and salad onto table. She said, "I tried. The cook says she won't (not can't) delay the order bcuz we might get busy". FYI, we were sitting at one of 24 additional unoccupied tables, only 3 other tables in the front half of the restaurant were in use at this time plus 9 adttl booths and an unoccupied lunch counter. At almost 8:00p.m. at an obscure truck stop further away from a nearby tavern on the opposite side of the highway that serves food with nearly 40 cars in their lot (Rachael's) on a Thursday, not a fish fry night nor prime rib, not a tv event night either. Harvest had 4 cars and 2 semis 150 yds distant at a hotel. I took the chance bcuz my wife was starving. To be fair the salad was not horrible at all, the soup was actually very flavorful but was served not much warmer than the salad. We were told that wed get the food as soon as it was ready. It arrived not halfway through the soup and salad. The very polite waitress went to great lengths to apologize again saying she had no control over the cook who by this time had only 2 tables including ours eating among a total of about 40 eating stations yet was afraid of bring "slammed" that late at night. View the pics please. The steak was in the shape of a star which causes it to be well done, the potatoe was overly done as you can see, burned black in foil on the outside, brown under the skin. The waitress said that to make it all better the cook (who at this time had not even been asked for any comp prior to our complaint) offered Calico beans as a freebie to " make up" for hurrying the order out on this busy, busy (not) night. It was likely going into the dumpster at the end if the night based on its congealed consistency. For one thing, the meat was very possibly a previously made and precooked piece was bcuz as quick as it came out it was honestly no more than heat lamp warm and dry, not even out of a Cresscore warmer. The soup came from a tureen that by 7:45 had already been shut off as soup retains residual heat for a long time even after shutting down the heating elements prior to refrigerating it for the night. Had it been microed it would've had a telltale crust around the circumference bring tomatoes based broth. Again, the soup was actually quite good but I was reluctant to ask it to be reheated in a microwave after hearing that the cook refused to hold the original order. No doubt the cook was anticipating going vapor trail out the front door by 9:01 and heading over to Rachael's to grab a bite to eat but the biggest clue that this order was premade and heat lammped was that the sour cream cups aside the warm, not hot, baked potatoes was that the sour cream was liquified except for the soft dollop floating in the very center. That only happens in single serving cups under heat. Julie the manager and Kelly the cook will likely kill this business off at night for the owners unless of course Kelly the cook is actually the owner and makes her salary irregardless of her actions. We suspect she has no back room help otherwise the only reason this place reamains open must be bcuz of the morning crowd based on the positive reviews and the better qualified breakfast cook. If other entities own this business you'd do well to eat there yourself at night and see. My advice: if ur going to remain open after 6 p.m. only do pizza which looked respectable at the one table when we came in. We have reviewed literally dozens of establishments and this one could be an insanely lucrative business except for the Seinfeld "Soup Nazi" comparison. Turned into pet food that night. read more

First and last time visiting Harvest Restaurant. I ordered a reuben sandwich and fries. The reuben sandwich was basically a sauerkraut sandwich. Half of the sandwich didn't even have any corned beef and where there was meat there was 2 super thin slices. I didn't taste and corned beef what so ever. The fries were OK. I waited for the waitress to come back and ask how the food was so I could show her the sandwich but she never came back. I ended up eating the meal and after my friend and I were done eating, the waitress came over with the bill. I'm guessing the waitress was a high school student and she needs to be retrained. I've given the Harvest 3 tries and they struck out all three times. The food on the buffet is dry and unappetizing, I'm wondering if it is just reheated from the day before - probably. The service is below par but I'm sure a good learning experience for their young staff. Apparently there is no training and these girls are to inexperienced to know any better. I can't fault the staff, they are very nice - I see it as management's fault for not providing training, better quality food and proper supervision. I would have loved to give the Harvest a good review (I live close enough to frequent it often) but the poor quality of the food and the poor service have made McDonald's a better choice and that's not saying much. The best recommendation I can give is: if the choice is to eat at the Harvest or go hungry, then I would recommend the Harvest. Good luck and pack some snacks. :-) read more

First time here. Had the buffet. For the price it was good. You can't expect perfection for $10 and change. Entree's were ham, hot dish, beef tips, broasted chicken, enchiladas, and ribs. Also were veggies, dressing, gravies, a peach cobbler, and banana bread. Service was exemplary. read more

I was hoping for better. This is a very typical truck-stop restaurant in that it's cozy and the menu is what you'd expect, but the food is pretty mediocre. My food wasn't all bad...the corned beef hash was a little burnt but tasty, the eggs were decent, but the mountain of hash browns seemed a bit undercooked and the waitress would forget about us at times. The atmosphere is a cheesy north woods lodge. There is a Mortal Kombat 2 machine in the nearby arcade, which earns bonus points. If you're looking for good food, though, try something more local because this is just a gas station joint. read more

Pre-ordered 2 slices of pie. Get 2 establishment & wait approx 15 mins at register. Waitress noticed me but continued tending 2 her tables. Only got acknowledged when dine-in customers stood behind me ready 2 checkout. The waitress looks at me and asks if I ordered the pie to go to which I respond with yes. She says well you're gonna have to wait till I'm done waiting on the people standing behind you. I turn and look at the couple and the gentleman says "no, plz wait on her first. She's been waiting here alot longer than us." I pay, get my pie and start walking away. The waitress apologizes to the couple for making them wait. The gentleman says "you shouldn't be apologizing to me, you should apologize to her" and points my way. To the guy that spoke up on my behalf - Thank you!! My wife and I stopped on our way back home from Green Bay. She ordered the sirloin and I had a bacon cheeseburger. Pros: - Food was average to slightly above average in flavor - Restaurant was clean - Prices are fair Cons: - After being seating and requesting a couple minutes to look over the menu, we proceed to wait 10-15 minutes for our waitress to come take our order - My wife's meal, according to the menu, came with two sides. The waitress never asked what sides she wanted and when the food came out it was literally an overcooked steak (medium instead of medium-rare), mashed potatoes with gravy, and an orange slice - My burger, while flavorful, was dry and the bacon was dried out and cold Probably will not eat here again. read more

So we decided to have just the salad bar and I have been sick ever since !! Not sure what they did or didn't do with the salad stuff but I have not been able to go far from a bathroom!! The buffet is the worst! Afternoon shift has the best food and breakfast is okay. Some of the waitresses are careless and unthoughtful. The new renovations they just recently did definitely improved the look of the building but they definitely need better staff. read more

On Saturday, 10/08, several of us drove from Shawano to Wittenberg to see an exhibit in the WOW art space. Nicely mounted, highly enjoyable display of photographs, paintings and glass sculpture. Before returning to Shawano we decided to have Brunch at the Harvest Restaurant - WOW again! Good food and great service. Had been dubious after reading a few other reviews of the Harvest, but we were completely won over by our experience. I had ground steak medium rare, eggs over medium, crisp hash browns (not greasy), and an english muffin - all were prepared exactly as ordered, served hot and fresh. Another of our party enjoyed a small steak from the buffet and went back for two more helpings. A third person enjoyed chicken and mashed potatoes. A very good 'comfort food' restaurant. I would not hesitate to return. Not fancy, but simple well-cooked food promptly served. A great value!!! read more

Going against our first quick peek impression of seeing the buffet, my sister and I decided to go for it. How bad could it be. The salad bar side was pretty good except the ham was so salty it was not eatable. Then we went to the main meal side and saw that the gravy was so thick with dried scum on top it diminished any appetite we had. The meat loaf was dry and looked very strangly dis colored. The fish was dried to the point of crusting so I went to the bottom to try to find a moist piece and it was so salty and also un eatable. We told the waitress who said she told the cook. One girl came out after about 10 min to peek at it and did nothing to it. They did give us a discount but we will not be returning. This used to be a good place, not anymore. Went for Easter...wow what a mistake. Where do I start. Had a party of 5 could not seat us together. Wanted chicken dumpling soup. No bowls, spoons or chicken dumpling soup. No ham on buffet and the chicken ( 1 piece left in warmer) was undercooked and red in the middle. Waited an hour for them to replenish the soup after asking them to do so. Still no soup. I had to spit out the beef tips because they were so tough, you could not chew them. So I ended up with a salad, some of the outside of my chicken and a small scoop of mashed potatoes I was able to scrape off the plastic wrap inside the warmer ( must be so they don't have to wash the warmers?). I should have stayed home. :( Never going back again. read more
