Was in Wausau with some friends for the weekend and we decided to stop for breakfast before leaving town. The four of us really had a hankering for breakfast but we didn't get rolling out of the hotel until about 11. Found The Log Cabin Family Restaurant on Google and it was only about 8 minutes from us. PLUS, they serve breakfast all day. Perfect! The breakfast menu was huge. They had 7 different benedict options, so I figured they've gotta know how to poach an egg. (Some places have benedict and just put a sunny egg on.) This place asks how you want your egg on the benedict. I ordered poached and was also able to specify soft, medium, or hard. Country Style Benedict with soft poached eggs?! Yes, please and thank you! It was so good and the eggs were perfect! The sausage on the benedict instead of ham was fantastic and oh that hollandaise. My three friends all really liked their breakfasts also. The service was also outstanding! Our waitress was so very friendly and checked in with us the perfect amount. Got a warmer on my coffee and a second soda without even asking. She offered separate checks without making us feel bad; said it's just one extra click of a button. Cashier was also really friendly and greeted us each with a smile. I will certainly be back here the next time I'm in this neck of the woods. The Log Cabin is a Schofield staple. My wife and I enjoyed open-faced beef sandwiches at their original location, but they have become our favorite breakfast place since we returned. Last weekend Jenny and I went there for Mother's Day. We took a seat at the diner counter and ordered our usual. I had their meat lover's skillet and Jenny had their French toast. Let me be transparent and say they were SLAMMED because it was Mother's Day. The negative parts of this review have nothing to do with being slammed, but thankfully the story has a happy ending. The waitress took our order quickly enough, but it took a long time for our food to arrive. I watched our ticket sit on the far left of the ticket holder (they moved them right-to-left) with the line chef paying no attention to it. During this time we watched as other couple's who ordered after us received their food. Our waitress was also nowhere to be found. But the coffee was good. I also witnessed a first. A unique feature is that you can see the cooking line from the counter. That makes it fun, but it also means you get to watch the "fun" when the head cook argues with a waitress frustrated because he is skipping all over the ticket line, resulting in only halal the food for a table of four being done while the other ticket hasn't been started. Never thought I'd seen an episode of Hell's Kitchen live, but when the waitress told the head cook, "This goes with this, like I frickin' told you a bunch of times." When our food finally arrived, it became clear that the waitress was either deaf or just not listening. They made the French toast on sour dough instead of giving her a side of sour dough toast. And my over easy eggs arrived over hard. The waitress explained that she thought we had ordered them that way. I have never ordered eggs over hard, so I know I did not misspeak. This is where is the story gets better (though she actually had to ask me, "Do you want them to make another one?" Really? When the next skillet arrived, the eggs were perfect, and they heaped on extra hash browns, cheese, and meat. It was incredible. Overall, the experience was not what we have come to expect, but they made right their mistake. The arguing, long wait for food and waitress miscues detract from the excellent food. I will consider avoiding that waitress on future visit. Hopefully the next review can return to a 5. read more

We visited my friend's mom and planned to eat at the Log Cabin because she lives nearby and eats there often. We were greeted by a very friendly young man upon entering and were given the choice of a booth or table (important when members of the group have a medical reason for one or the other). The decor is great! They carry the log cabin theme throughout! Our server was cheerful, confidently answered all our questions and gave us some extra time to order since, for most of us, it was our first visit. First time here we went with some online recommendations. My wife had country fried steak and eggs. Cooked perfect and very tasty. I had the crab cake Benedict. Prices are not worth the quality of food or service you get (they nickel and dime you for all you've got in your pocket). There is no ambiance to this place. It's loud, layed out strangely, and deeply outdated. staff often have personal conversations in the midst of customers or yelling to each other across the dining room or kitchen. I ordered the Haystack Skillet. (Hash browns, ham, onions and eggs with shredded cheese on top). I was surprised with how quick my meal came. Normally I would be super impressed but in this case I am not too sure. I believe that everything was pre made except the fried eggs. The only thing hot on my plate was the eggs, the hash browns were warm at best and it made me think that they were sitting in some warming tray waiting to be used. The cheese on top did not even melt! Overall the taste was good (I did have to salt a bit) but I have to give the average rating due to the lack of freshness. In this case I would have rather waited a few more minutes and had the "skillet" part of my meal sit on the grill a little longer. The restaurant was very clean and unique (Log Cabin). This place does it right! It's like a well-oiled machine. Everyone seems to know their job and is doing it with speed. We were passing through and wanted some breakfast and picked this place. This place just makes me happy. We have yet to have a waitress who isn't funny and upbeat, and oh my gosh the breakfast. We've been at least 1-2 times a month since we moved here in September and love it every time. Have only been for breakfast though! I love getting the southern Benedict and substituting Hollandaise for the gravy (their gravy is good-I'm just not a gravy person) and my husband LOVES the Irish Benedict. Perfect waffles too! The service was incredibly fast in spite of how busy it was. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs. The eggs were perfectly prepared and the fried steak was great, just a little spicy for me. Growing up my grandparents lived in a very small town of 200+ people and they had one restaurant that everyone went to. Whether for a coffee at the counter in the morning or a family dinner at night. It was a really family comforting environment. Unfortunately it's been closed for years now but every time we go to the log cabin it brings back childhood memories I have of family dinners with my grandparents. My husband and I went for breakfast a couple of weeks ago. I got the traditional breakfast: eggs over medium (cooked perfectly), bacon, hash browns and toast. It was all really good. My husband decided to try their southern fried chicken benedict. He loved it and still talks about it. Apparently nothing will beat this dish. I tasted it and it was pretty good. Ordered Banana Foster French toast for breakfast. When I got my meal, I was very disappointed. The banana's were not cook, they were raw and there was no foster on my plate. Grabbed breakfast here after coming back from upper Minnesota. Waitress was super friendly! Side of hash browns was a pretty good size (unlike some places). Blueberry pancakes where loaded with blueberries on the inside and the syrup came on the side was warmed up! coffee comes in a pot which is nice not waiting around for a refill. My family each tried something different, no complaints from them at all. We would stop here again if in the area. read more

This restaurant has been around for a long time. I remember going to it when I was a kid and I worked there when I was in college. The Log Cabin is a local landmark; everyone's been there. Its a medium sized family restaurant with a large menu. Everyone can find something they want to eat. Its decent homemade eats at a decent price. Log Cabin: defined as diner food that is served in a log cabin styled Up North house. Friends of mine always stay at the adjacent hotel, so I come here with them many times. I've often had their omelets and skillets in the morning. Hash browns always look underdone, but are cooked through (why don't they turn brown?). Don't be turned off by the staff asking how you want your eggs in Eggs Benedict, because if you request the obvious: "poached," then you will not be disappointed. Other dishes that have been good are their fresh fruit summer salads. Plenty of fruit and nuts or other toppings, and great fruity vinaigrette dressings. Of course like other diners, they have meatloaf, and liver & onions. One of my guests had the liver & onions once, so I tried a piece, and it tasted flavorful and had good texture. I don't usually like liver outside of a pate, so if anyone else really wanted liver & onions, then I would definitely come here. read more
