We have been with Wixom Vet for almost 20 years. I called them on Jan 4, 2025 to ask some follow-up questions about my cat's thyroid condition. Even though it was during open hours the call was directed to an after hours voice mail. I told them what I wanted and asked them to call me back. They didn't. I called again on Monday Jan 6, 2025 and was put on hold and then disconnected. I called back and was finally able to ask for the follow-up information I needed. They said they would call back. At 3:30 PM I called back and was told that they didn't do any call backs until 4 PM. They said they would call me back then. It is now 7:30 PM and still no call. I'm not sure what has changed at the Wixom Vet but I no longer trust them with the health and welfare of my cats and neither should you. read more

I have been a client here for probably 20 years. I was always pleased with their service, and recommended them to everyone who was looking for a vet. HOWEVER, this past Sunday night, my dog started running a fever, Monday morning she was having difficulty breathing. I called the vet, they had no openings and recommended I take her to an ER and gave me a referral. Called the ER and they said they had a 10 hour wait time. Called WFP back and let them know. I was told again that they couldn't see her today, but perhaps they would have a cancelation on Tuesday, or call back at 9AM Tuesday to see if I could get an Emergency appointment for that day. I asked what I could do to keep her comfortable and was told they would have the Dr call me (.....still waiting for that!). Thankfully, someone told me to try their vet, and they had NO APPOINTMENTS either, but were willing to squeeze her in when I gave them her symptoms. Third call to Wixom Family Pets-asked to have a complete set of records for both of my dogs, and told them how disappointed I was that after all these years they weren't able to help me. When I went to pick up their records, there wasn't a single car in the lot, waiting room was empty, building was quiet, and they still had several hours of the workday left. When I got my dog to the new vet, her temp was 105.9, she was admitted to the clinic for an overnight stay, put on IV and antibiotics. Thankfully I was able to bring her home the next night, and she is on the mend. New vet told me she was glad I got her in when I did, a fever that high could have led to brain damage or organ failure. My trust in WFP was shattered that day, so disappointed, angry, and sad that no one cared. read more

I have Ben taking my dog there for 13 years and just passed away October 17th 2020 , I have put all my trust for my dogs life in there hands I took him every year fir a physical check up and his shots I did mention to them when my son was younger that he use to throw up a lot he couldn't even eat dog treats and they just kept saying don't give him anything besides his dog food and he might have a sensitive stomach issues or acid reflux so I went with that but I would always point it out to them the issue every year I took him they never suggested any further exams on him as he got older he started getting sick and throwing up , took him there and they did a minor blood work on him and send home wanted to do more blood work that would cost me near 700 but always ignored the stomach issues They ordered steroids to give him which made him worse sick to the stomach the next day he was in Massive pain and crying out loud I rushed him to the emergency she checked his stomach and took X-rays and found a big mass which made me wonder why all these years I've took him to his vet never once suggested to take x-rays for his stomach if they have done that on an early age problem what I've been solved and he would have Ben saved from earlier age I think this place is all about money and don't care too much about pets lives the vet called me once and said sorry and said she would call back and never did I am in so much pain and grieving over my son . I don't sit just displaced to anyone take your pet somewhere else that are more thorough and caring please because I regret taking him there all these years my son is gone now and I'm heart broken and always will be I will never forget my baby I wish I would have known this from before and took home somewhere else . GREAT service and staff, but WOW are they overpriced! I paid 3x the amount I was quoted from All About Animals, and they quoted me between 3 and 500 for neutering and dew claw removal where All About Animals quotes $80-120. I've already paid for the prelims for the surgery and don't want to change things now, but had I known they would gouge me like this I would have NEVER chosen to go there. Unbelievably high prices, but YES, they are beyond excellent with their care and knowledge. Highly recommended if you have lots of money to burn! read more

We have been bring our cat here for 10 years now. Within the last year, the veterinary owner has changed to two younger vets. But this is still a friendly and reasonable priced vet. They use to have an open drop in, but now I think you need to schedule an appointment. They have been able to handle all our cat's medical needs, including minor surgery and overnight stays - he got into a fight with a dog. read more

I love that this vet is so close to my home! I just moved to the area and wasn't sure where to go, and found this one, and I'm so glad I did! I just adopted a puppy last week and wanted to get her checked, the staff were all so nice! I originally came to this clinic for a second opinion for my 18yr old diabetic cat. They were so accommodating to get us in the same day. Sadly my first visit ending with the passing of my cat. I was a hot mess and the staff was amazing. They were so patient and explained everything to me. Their support and understanding made a huge differnce. Months later I brought my newly rescued fur baby in for his first check up. Once again, amazing staff. Everyone is so kind and helpful from the call to make the appointment through the entire visit. Took my dog to vet because I thought something was wrong with her recent spay that was done less than 2 weeks ago. My dog was bleeding from her stitches. I was told on the phone I shouldn't pay a fee because it was a follow up over the phone. But at the end of the appointment SURPRISE!!!! 50! They charged me $50 for a check up that last 5 minutes. Will not be back. Have had many dogs through this place and they are ok but it's close to house. Very overpriced for everything. So latest visit I called to schedule for a heartworm and fecal test and lady on phone told me I still had a fecal and heartworm test part of my package so would not have to pay for that. I get here and they tell me plan expired and cannot use those. Really!!! Will not be back. So instead of walking out paying 60.00 for preventative meds it will be more like 150.00. Unbelievable. Then girl tells me her manager is not here so we may be able to credit you if she approves it when she is back in. So a business is being run and no manager on duty. WOW!! Do not come to this vet. I can not say enough great things about Dr. Amber Myers and the entire staff at Wixom Family Pet Practice. My dog Handsome Finn, a Labradoodle had to have his tail amputated due to an infection caused by burrs that he chewed and licked on his tail until it became infected. It was a long 6 weeks which included trying to save the tail, amputating it, getting an infection, amputating it further to get rid of the infection and countless trips to their office in the mist of all this. Everyone there went out of their way to help us during this difficult time. I used to like Wixom Vet, as I am an owner of four rescue dogs. In particular, I enjoyed working with Dr. Jennifer Sordyl, who had consistently examined, vaccinated, and cared for our sick pets throughout the last four years. However, when our 7 year old Malamute, Jennie, was diagnosed with nasal carcinoma in October, 2012, I really felt that Dr. Sordyl dropped the ball. Once the diagnosis was given, and she recommended not performing surgery on Jennie's nose (sinus cavity), as this was an aggressive and fast-moving cancer---she refused to work with us without us committing to work with an oncologist for Jennie's care. Dr. Sordyl knew Jennie well, and had even performed two separate surgeries on her for unrelated diagnosis'. When my husband and I made the difficult decision to treat Jennie with homeopathic remedies (including acupuncture twice weekly) she refused to write a simple prescription for our holistic diet change, stating that she wasn't comfortable working without an oncologist. She did walk us through the option of euthanasia---but even after the diagnosis, she never once called or checked up on Jennie's well-being---even once. I am thinking that the new owners of Wixom Vets have influenced what used to be personable, attentive care for their pets and the owners of these pets. Needless to say, Wixom Vet has lost my patronage. My dogs now use Wilson Vet Services in Romeo, Michigan, a longer drive but a much more caring facility. read more

My cat Mercury was peeing around the house and I was totally out of love with him. They clearly explained a course of treatment and the costs. I could tell that both the assistant and the Vet sincerely cared about him. They gave him a 1 injection antibiotic so I didn't have to give him pills every day. They followed up to see how he was doing and he's fine - not one accident since! In short they helped me love my cat again! read more

I've been taking my dog here for years and although they are a little expensive they have been good. However today I went to refill my dogs heartworm and they said they can only give 1 month because he is due for a checkup. I would have made an appointment but they said nobody is allowed in the building, I would have to just drop my dog off. My dog is getting old and he gets really nervous going anywhere he's not used to especially if I'm not with him so no way I'm going to subject him to being terrified without me at this vet office. I explained that to the vet and asked to either be allowed to get more than a 1 month supply of heart worm medicine atleast until they will allow me to come in with my dog and they refused. They would not work with me at all despite going here for years and even getting a bunch of diagnostic work done here a year ago including an ultrasound. They refused to let me come in with a mask, and refused to even give me 1 extra month worth of medicine until things calm down with Coronavirus. This is plain greed. They want to bring me in for expensive service and are holding much needed prescriptions hostage as a way to do. They also have no regard for my dogs emotional wellbeing and care more about money. I will never bring any pet here again. read more

Dr. Sordyl killed my dog with her inexperience so I would never recommend her practice to anyone. I went to Dr. V who originally owned this practice for over 20 years and he was awesome, knew everything, but then he had a heart attack and had to retire and after that, she took over. She operated on my dog even though some of his levels were elevated and less than six months later he was dead. I believe that the anesthesia she used caused his levels to elevate even higher and caused his liver to fail. If she had not operated on him for some cysts, he might have lived for a longer period of time. I know that I can never prove this, but I know it anyways, I was there for everything. Also, when I emailed them about what happened and questioned why the levels were so high when she operated, they never responded, only sent some robo email for me to bring my other dog in for a check up. Like hell I would. DON'T take your pets here, you may live to regret it! read more

DO NOT take your pet here! We took our puppy to Dr. Sordel here and she diagnosed her with giardia. This parasite should take 1-2 weeks to treat. She gave us 3 medications to treat the parasite and as soon as the medication ran out, our pup was sick again. After doing some research online, I found that Dr. Sordel was only giving us 1 medication that I read about - Metronidazole. This medication is supposed to be most effective when combined with Panacur (which she did not prescribe us). We took our pup back to the vet when she was sick a second time, Dr. Sordel gave us 3 medications again and 1 was Panacur, but not in combination with the Metronidazole. After the medication ran out again, our puppy was still sick with giardia. I read that giardia is something that pups should have for a week or two at the most. We went back to the vet and she gave us more medication... again not the combination of drugs I'd read was most effective. After the third time we ran out of medication and our pup was still sick, we went back and Dr. Sordel told us to change our 3 month old pup's diet to adult food. We were left wondering why she'd throw another variable into the mix. It was like she was guessing and throwing darts at a wall. She told us we could clean toys, beds, blankets, etc/ "if we wanted to" unlike what I researched online - EVERYTHING needs to be cleaned so that the pup doesn't reinfect itself. We went back another time after our pup was still sick and then the time after that we saw Dr. P. Mind you, all of these trips were abour $125 each. Dr. P told us to clean EVERYTHING and questioned why we weren't treating our pup with a combination of Metroidazole and Panacur and why we'd switched our pup's diet. I told her we were following Dr. Sordel's orders. After 2 more visits and 2 negative fecal tests ($30 each) from the vet, they sent a fecal sample out to the lab ($75) only to find out they were WRONG and our pup still have giardia 2 months later. Dr. Sordel called my husband and recommended they send another fecal sample out in a few days at another $75 and run a panel of tests. We've decided it's time to switch vets. This place doesn't seem to know what they're doing and we can't keep bleeding money as they continue guessing. After we decided to switch a friend told me that one of her friend's dog had to be flown to NY after getting kidney failure as a direct result of Wixom Family Pet Practice prescribing too much of a steroid to treat a simple infection.
