I made the fairly long drive with cash in hand, ready to buy, so I was disappointed to discover that the books shown online were not actually available in the store. Unfortunately, I also didn't find much in the way of higher-value Silver or Bronze Age keys, either raw or slabbed. If you're looking for reasonably priced mid-grade books or trying to fill some gaps in your collection with non-key back issues, this could definitely be a fun store to browse. However, if you're a collector specifically looking for higher-grade books, significant keys, or more valuable Silver and Bronze Age material, you may be better served looking elsewhere. I just wish the website had made it clearer that the inventory shown online wasn't representative of what was actually available in the store.

If you're looking for old stock to complete a collection, chances are, this is where you want to be. Majority of the warehouse *is* old stock with a smaller section for newly released comics. To me that's not really a downside because if you wanted new comics you could go literally anywhere else. But if you're looking for treasures, hard to find older issues, or just older comics in general that you want to read and don't care about the resale value or the condition it's in, this is the place for you. It's a place for collectors and enthusiasts that are searching because they want to own something, not because they're trying to hold it for resale. As for me, I was able to grab Star Wars IV, V, VI in comic form which I never even knew they made, just $5 each. I think this is a must-visit for comic lovers and I'm SO glad our uncle brought us here. Even if you aren't looking for anything, you really need to go just to see how many comics are on these shelves. It's mind-blowing.

Funnybooks is a really tiny shop, but the owner (Steve I think) was AWESOME with keeping people orderly and providing both assistance and keeping everyone smiling. In the space next to his shop he had a ton of other comics at discounted prices and also had some local artists that were quite amazing. My son has already asked to go back. So it was fun to look around and check things out. However, I accompanied my hubby here on Free Comic Book Day. It was very disappointing to hear that they had actually run out of free comics. How do you discover a book without "opening" it . The woman was so rude , the book they sold didn't even have a barcode . I love bookstores, and NYC has lots of great ones. But the Strand Bookstore might be the best? It's a classic. It's the largest independent bookstore in the city, carrying 2.5 million used, new, and rare books (their tag line - "18 Miles of Books" refers to the fact that the shelf space in the store supposedly stretches over 18 miles)! Plenty of people just shop front their discount racks outside the sidewalk (where all books are $3-7) and then pop in just to pay. But the inside is incredible. More books than almost any bookstore I've ever been to. Still family-owned, over 100 years old, and with an emphasis on bookseller recommendations, it's just an excellent bookstore. When I stopped by on Sunday, I made it past about four tables and end displays - new fiction, signed books, and employee recommendations - about 50 feet into the store. I already had six books in my hands and decided I better leave quickly before I had a problem! Despite the size of the store and the number of shoppers, the line to check out was short and quick. With friendly customer service to boot. It's simply one of the best bookstores in the city. Maybe in the country, too?! Definitely check it out.
