I only consumed vino food while my friend ate, but the customer service was outstanding. They offer the complimentary fried Won Tons to snack on & clear tasting water. The Server stopped by a few times before we were ready to order just to make sure we were good. It was a quick meal for my friend, who ordered the basic Chicken & Broccoli & a side of Hot Pepper Oil. Our Sever was a non stop smiler & handled all of her tables with ease. For the mixture of Chinese & Sushi, they offer an extensive selection. There's a Sushi Bar in the back, a small bar when you walk in to your right & tables running along the left side. Believe it or not, for this H Street location, it's a nice size eatery. The restroom is very cramped & could use a more frequent cleaning check in, yet for the most part, it serves it's purpose. Prices are very good, food comes out fresh & quick, so no complaints there. Literally the worst sushi I've had in years, with service to match. Also ordered a 20oz beer, they brought me the small and the wrong one. Went with two others, and they added 18% tip just like when it's a party of six or more. Now I always tip 20% unless something really uniquely bad happens, but it still was very irritating that they do this, especially considering their service. I didn't do karaoke so maybe it's a place just for that. Sushi tasted terrible. Service sucked. 18% tip added to a party of 3. I have only been to karaoke her thus far, so this is a karaoke review specifically. We reserved the "VIP Room" upstairs for my friend's birthday and had a great time. The screen you use to select songs is interesting. It is cool that it's very interactive and doesn't require you to look through a massive book with tons of numerical codes. That said, the screen itself is hard to navigate, doesn't work properly (I'll spare you the details), and the categories for it don't make sense half the time (two categories are in English and half the songs are in Chinese or from Taiwan). All that said, though, there is also a bar one level down from which it was pretty easy to get a drink. I'm not sure what makes the VIP room very important, but it could use a little work. read more

Why did I go here?? Well the tour guide suggested to check out this famous place since before this was Wok and Roll it was where Lincoln's assassination people were staying it. It use to be an old motel but now it is pretty much China Town and this cheesy restaurant. What we had: Fried Crab Wonton $4.95 Chicken and Corn Soup $2.50 Orange chicken $6.75 Tuna sushi $4.50 Salmon Sashimi $8.00 Total Bill for Lunch was about $35.00 The price was very reasonable but the taste of the food was disgusting. First off the fried crab wontons is a DO NOT EAT because it has no flavor and too much grease on it. The second was the soup which tasted fine and actually eatable. The orange chicken had way too much sauce on it. The Tuna and Salmon didn't seem fresh at all. I feel bad for this place because it looks like a nice place to eat but in the end it wasn't a place I would ever go back to try and eat ! I also would say hold your breathe if you are going to the women's bathroom it smelled like no one had cleaned it for years!! Disgusting. read more

So I came across this place during my lunch hour and decided to give it a try. I really like Japanese food so I went for the sashimi platter and pork udon. I've never been a big fan of karaoke bars. Pretty much any I've been to have been dive bars with a karaoke machine up front or just a dirty place overall to be at. When I came into W&R, it seemed just like a normal looking restaurant/bar which was pleasant. Plenty of seats and they do takeout too. So far it looked okay so I was eager to try the food. When I saw it served Japanese/Chinese food, I imagined it was the same as many other restaurants in the area that serve "Asian" food. After seeing the waitresses carrying around some dishes, the food looked promising so, again, pretty eager to try the food. I went with the pork udon and the sashimi platter. Sushi is sort expensive around here so the total cost of the meal, + tip, was about $45...just for me. Sadly this is normal for me since I like to eat a lot but just getting the noodles would've been around $15 mark with tip and drink. There are quite a few ramen/udon places near here and Kofuku is probably my favorite. That said, the udon at Wok and Roll is very good. There's not a whole lot of noodles in it but the pork, broth and dish cakes are all dumped into the bowl so it's quite a hearty bowl of udon. The broth was especially good as it was a bit salty (I got the miso broth) but quite tasty. The noodles and pork complimented the bowl quite nicely making this one of the better udon in the area. The sashimi was very good. 15 pieces for $20 seems about right to me in terms of price. The pieces are quite large so you're not being charged full price sashimi for half the amount like other places do. It goes without saying that ANY place that serves sushi/sashimi, the fish should be fresh. However the sashimi here tasted almost as if they just pulled the fish out of the ocean and served it up. The salmon was buttery soft as was the yellowtail. The tuna and mackerel were a bit firmer but equally tasty. Cant recall what the fifth fish was but it was good too. The sashimi platter is a grand choice IMO. In terms of best bang for your buck, I think this platter is the best one I've come across so far in the Chinatown area. Great place overall. The food is delicious and the staff were friendly and constantly (in a good way) checking up on me making sure the food was good and if I needed a refill or something. I don't think I'll ever come here for the karaoke but will definitely be back for the food. read more

So this is my second time coming here. The first time I came was before I started Yelping, and I distinctly remember not enjoying my sushi experience. The second time was slightly better, but still sub-par. Atmosphere: It was super cold. Yes, it is the middle of winter, but I felt like I had to keep my jacket on the whole time. It's not too much of an atmosphere, pretty standard and just feels like a place where you go to eat and not really hang out...? Food: They were good with accommodating substitutions in our meals, but the quality of the cuts and the sashimi itself was subpar. Also--many of the pieces of sashimi were still stuck together, something I've rarely seen. The salad was better than average, though, it had more than just iceberg and carrots; had some spinach, leafy greens and fresh herbs. Portion sizes are decent, but usually I go for quality, not quantity. Service: The server forgot to ask whether we wanted soup/salad with our sashimi and I forgot to ask when we were ordering and she just came out with two bowls of miso. She didn't make too much of a fuss though when both of us wanted salad instead. Note: I don't know if this is always what happens, or if it's only with Groupons, but they charged a mandatory 18% gratuity. There were two of us. In regards to the Groupon, nowhere on it does it say we had to order a minimum of the Groupon face value, but they didn't allow us to order exactly $39 worth of food. I'm a fan of Wok and Roll. It's my go-to spot for cheap, but tasty sushi. They've done at lot of renovations to the interior over the years and have made it significantly prettier on the inside. It's actually quite nice now. The cocktails, especially the sake-tinis, are delicious. Expensive, but worth it. The happy hour special of $1.25 per a piece of sushi is an excellent deal. Their basic sushi rolls - spicy tuna, etc. - are extremely reasonably priced at $5-$6. Their specialty / more creative rolls are double the cost, but done well. The Hawaiian roll in particular is a favorite of mine. The service is always pleasant and attentive. Sure, you can probably get better sushi elsewhere, but you'll pay a much higher price. They've clearly picked up their game with really thoughtful dishes that ooze umami - always lots of chicken, beef or shrimp in their dishes without too much filler (cabbage or carrots). This was my go-to Chinese restaurant.... I recently ordered shrimp fried rice with extra shrimp and General Tso Chicken. I had my mouth set for some good food and I was utterly DISAPPOINTED. The color of the rice was off and the shrimp were over-done. It looked and tasted OLD!!! After a few forks, I gave up and threw it out. The next few days, I paid the price AGAIN!!! Recently had karaoke night with my family at Wok and Roll Karaoke bar. We enjoyed ourselves. I will say, the room we were given surprised me but didn't impress me. The type of room we had wasn't pictured on the website gallery. The drinks were great each time we ordered & the food was delicious. Food & drinks are ordered at the bar. You take your drink with you & the food is brought directly your room. The karaoke screen is were it got complicated. Unfortunately the selections of artist & songs are limited. For example, it will have Beyoncé but it will have at least 5 or 7 of her songs listed. Sometimes the artist you search for will be listed than 5 minutes later it's no longer available. Very weird. It gives you the option to download an app which would allow you to select your music options faster. However I was unable to download the app. Also weird. In the end we had fun singing. I'm not really impressed with this place - you could get way better food elsewhere in Chinatown. I got some beef chow foon with beef -overall it was ok, I mean i don't remember what it really tasted like. My friend got sushi and she said it was gross - and I must agree with her. Don't get the sushi here. Stick with the entrees. The serivce was so random. We had different waiters every single time from getting our order, refill our drinks, getting our food, taking our checks. Never ever go to this place. I've worked downtown and came here often since 2001 for lunch, but with Covid they directly direct you on their site to GrubHub for delivery. Okay, I'm good and can do delivery with GrubHub... Oh no. A $60 order never arrived with GrubHub and many times calling this restaurant they claimed no responsibly with their only option of GrubHub delivery. "You need to call GrubHub"... the freaking web site for Wok and Roll sent me to GrubHub without any other option. I called GrubHub and they had no idea what I was talking about, no care that I just spent $60 for nothing. I called the restaurant many more times and they wouldn't even tell me if they made my food and if GrubHub actually picked it up, or they didn't make my food. Just nothing from this restaurant. As I noted above I've been buying lunch since 2001 at this place, but what a now shit place I haven't bought anything from Wok and Roll for years now and definitely hope that they just disappear. This place is terrible. Their service is awful, multiple people were waiting up front and they sent no one up to help. When I got my food, it had all wrong items. The salmon lovers roll I ordered was not included. Of course, the most expensive roll. The crab wontons were burnt and not filled with any crab or cream cheese. See pic. Me and my friend were looking for a place to eat (last minute) since my boss delivers items to this one particular restaurant we decided to give it a try. Little did we know that the food wasn't as good. Either it was overly salty or it had no flavor at all. The pepper steak we order did not look appetizing and it was cold when it came out. Service wasn't good as well. The people working there were rushing me and my friend to order quickly. The place looks quite dirty as well and I was feeling very uncomfortable while dining in. Ordered take out here with about 6 others. We had some very tasty, fresh and satisfying sushi at their fresh sushi bar while waiting for the takeout. Takoue was very good. I had sesame chicken and hot and sour soup which was very good. Others in the group said their food was very good as well. The wait was a little long but we used that time to order and eat fresh sushi and still waited about 15-20 minutes for out food to be ready (about 45 min wait total). Booked this place for a bday celebration. It was easy to reserve over the phone just 4 days before. They have a happy hour special, if you book a room between 2-6pm for 2 hours you get 50% off. We booked the party room which holds up to 40ppl for 2 hours, it's the largest room they have. My guests arrived early and they would not let them in before party time, they wouldn't even let them sit in the restaurant. When we got there they take you to the Check in area where you pay the balance. They keep your card for incidentals until the end of your party. They take you to the room to give you a quick tutorial on how to work the computer. Majority of the songs we were looking for were not there. They need to update their database. It was exhausting trying to find songs that weren't available and that took up most of our time. Once we figured out that we should go with artists like Bruno Mars, Chris Brown and Trey Songz we were good, but still disappointed that they didn't have current popular songs. If you can, have your guests pick multiple songs before you all get there and then as soon as you get there load all the songs into the computer to save time searching each song individually. Almost every song my guests asked for was not on the list of songs available and if they had the artist all of their songs weren't listed. It was extremely frustrating!!!!! There should be an option to use your phone and connect to their system for the songs they don't have. The food was pretty good and was ready pretty fast. The room was big and spacious. There were 3 big screen TV's, a stage, 3 microphones and plenty of seats and tables. The microphones were covered for your protection. They have a smoke machine and different light effects. Witch was Sunday 9/20/20 Also our older from 9/20/20 We had two large orders of shrimp fried rice, two miso soup, one shrimp Lo mein. I was told 1egg roll came with my order by the lady on the phone, whom took my order. No egg rolls came with the order. I did order additional egg roll after, arriving to pick up my order. it was delicious. But I found a piece of saran wrap plastic in the shrimp fried rice, very small piece but never the less it was in the food. I thank GOD I didn't swallow it. I must admit, I initially thought this place would be a "hole in the wall", but it is fairly decent inside. They serve Japanese and Chinese cuisine. The staff seems nice, obviously a different culture so can't expect the same type of interaction that an American establishment would extend. Service is fast. The portions are large (I.e. Too much for one person) The alcoholic beverage menu has many options. (And) they do good sushi ;-) The dining area has the potential to be cramped if during peak hours. Stopped by to have lunch with some friends before venturing out to the museums. They had a good lunch special going on, but that's about it. The menu had many offerings, but only a couple of dishes piqued my interests. It's really what you'd expect from any other Chinese place... except this place has a better ambience & the service isn't that bad. I like the idea of complimentary wontons, except I wish they were served hot. I couldn't tell if they were stale or just cold. The egg drop soup had a gelatinous consistency... which made it harder to eat the more I thought about the fact that I'm basically eating egg-flavored jell-o. Soup should move fluidly, and not jiggle in the bowl it's served in lol. At least the lo-mein I had was good. I'd go again if I don't want to spend big bucks on lunch in the city, but I'm not rushing back. read more

Came here for Karaoke while visiting in DC. Reservation over the phone was confusing, but was able to reserve the mini room at 9pm on Saturday night for 2 hour time slot. On Saturday we arrived 10 minutes early, we went through security (full pat down and ID check), checked in at the first level bar and then waited in a cramped and overpacked little entrance for our karaoke room to be cleaned. We were told someone was cleaning the room and didn't get in until 9:06pm. We were told that we would still get the full 2 hours time. Once we were in our room, it was pretty disappointing. There were no comfortable seats, only barstools. The songs on the karaoke machine were basic, lacking in choices in English. There were a lot of mandarin songs. We ended up using Spotify the entire time and pulled up the lyrics. The drinks were good - definitely recommend getting the pitcher of cocktails to avoid having to keep going back to the bar - there is no room service for any drinks. When it was around 10:50, a woman came in and had me sign for the charges and said we need to be out at 11pm. She argued with us that she has another reservation. I understand that this is their current business model, but they really should build in time for either more speedy cleaning or designated time between reservations for cleaning. It was expensive at $40 an hour, plus tax and a mandatory gratuity just to rent the room. I understand that Saturday is a busy night, but the customer service was lacking as the communication between staff and us was unclear and confusing - they clearly overpromised and under delivered on every area. Review for karaoke only! My company fell out in full force for karaoke and landed here. There are 3 places to sing, private rooms upstairs and one small bar on the floor below. The set up was a little strange, but ended up being really cool. You could go from the different locations to see who was singing what. Wait times for song was short, which was great. Also, the bartenders did a Fantastic job with so many people (30+ people in our party alone). If you love karaoke- give this place a try! read more

4 stars for a generic Chinese restaurant? Yes 4 stars because it performs well in areas that matter. 1. Food is good, nothing special because you can taste the same or something similar at most Chinese restaurants, but for the prices it's good! And I will say I love the quality of their taste. It's not over seasoned, every dish I have had was perfectly seasoned and not too salty or umamic like most Chinese foods. You can get lunch here for $8 and they'll still serve you the way a sit down and serve restaurant should. You don't feel the take out ambiance at all, even though u can do take out. 2. Did I mention the price is cheap for lunch as a sit down? $8 got you a good meal. 3. The place also does karaoke which I hear is nice. 4. We ordered this deep fried crispy fish dish and it was just amazing! I recommend it. The computer system they have for pulling up songs is complicated enough that you need to be reasonably sober and get a lesson in its use before you can start successfully finding the songs that you're interested in. About half of the songs that we pulled didn't have their own music videos, but rather what looked like 80s-90s B reel of people in Europe which was just kind of weird. If you don't have the music video, just give me the words--I'm not here to watch the music videos. They were also very very very prompt about asking us to leave as soon as our time was up, which I totally understand. Its a business. On our end, it was frustrating to feel like we were yanked out of our room mid song. Complaints aside, it was a decent place to hang out with a group of friends for a few hours and sing our hearts out, belting tunes from our youth. I didn't end up getting anything from the bar, but it was convenient that they had bars on each floor so you could grab a drink regardless of which room you were in. Wok & Roll is a favorite takeout spot - great prices and food is consistently good. It is now also my favorite place for karaoke. Their happy hour deal from 4-6 is awesome and their recently updated system made it easy to search for and choose songs. I would advise if you are at the high end of the room cap, splurge for the bigger room so everyone has seating. Also, the drinks charge will be on a separate receipt from the room charge FYI. read more

We had a table for 6 and our party waited for literally 45 minutes before getting served; not even a glass of water.. The woman at the front desk was all over the place looking discombobulated and they had other people in there working so it wasn't as if she was there by herself.. They were more worried about getting the Doordash orders and Uber eats orders ready than taking our order.. Now mind you the show starts at 7 and it was 6:30 when they finally decided to take our order.. I suggested that we go somewhere else but it was too late and the food finally came.. Nothing memorable about the food.. service was LOUSY and speaking for myself I won't be back to this rude unorganized establishment AGAIN.. Ugh!! Minus One star !! read more

My friend and I came here for a light lunch because the restaurant is located where the Surratt House is - now a historical landmark. (Mary Surratt knew John Wilkes Booth, and housed several of the conspirators who plotted to kidnap - later, assassinate - Abraham Lincoln. She was hanged after being convicted for her role in the plot.) So, the ground floor is now a Chinese/Japanese restaurant where people come to eat and are probably oblivious to the building's history. Anyway, the food wasn't bad. I got a basic Mixed Veggie Roll (cucumber, avocado, and asparagus) which was fine. My friend got one of the fancier rolls, which she enjoyed. The thing that bothered us a bit about the menu was the fact that there were no descriptions for any of the menu offerings. What exactly is in the Flying Dragon Roll? Or the New York Roll? The ingredients are on the menu online, but not on the menu in the restaurant, so you have to ask the server what's in everything - a challenge when you have food allergies and intolerances like my friend and me. But the staff was nice enough, and service was adequate. Nothing noteworthy, though. read more
