Positives * Friendly and Helpful Staff: Every visit, the staff has been exceptional, always welcoming and willing to assist. * Outstanding Free Breakfast: The breakfast is the best you'll find in town, with sausage patties, eggs, a solid variety of cereals and fruit, both apple and orange juice, and delicious waffles, all included in your stay. * Very Clean: The hotel consistently maintains a high standard of cleanliness throughout the property. * Comfortable Beds: The beds are cozy and provide a good night's sleep every time. Negatives * Rooms Need Updating: Unfortunately, the rooms haven't been renovated in quite some time. There aren't enough electrical outlets or USB ports to meet the needs of two guests with devices like watches, phones, and laptops--and my medical equipment needed a plug as well. * Low Toilet Height: Standard room toilets are only 16" high, which can be tough for people with mobility challenges. While I was switched to a handicap-accessible room, the toilet was still 16" high (though it did have grab bars). According to ADA Standards, toilets should be 17"-19" high, with 19" being ideal. Unfortunately, despite many years of good experience, these issues mean we'll probably look elsewhere for accommodations on our next visit.

There is a little coffee nook on the 2nd floor with a Keurig and coffee pods. They are VERY clear on the website that you must be able to navigate a flight of stairs for 300 numbered rooms. However, the best way to navigate to the 200 rooms is also up a very steep staircase. It's a historic building so I get it, and they have tried to provide some accessibility with a lift on the outside of the building, but if accessibility is a key concern you may want to stay elsewhere.

This is not a Bed and Breakfast, no breakfast voucher either - so forget anything you read otherwise - I complained about the sign that was even in the window as you walked in stating Bed and Breakfast, which they did remove the next day. Speaking of walking in - I had to push the automatic door to the lobby open (they did fix that the next day) only to find a kiosk virtual front desk (from a different town/state who knows where, that had to call about everything that required attention). After we had drove a few hours, we did get a text to warn us that the elevator was broken (so check on that before you go, because it was still broke when we left). I had booked a room specific to 2nd floor, as my wife has some trouble with stairs after hip surgery (none on first floor, and 3rd floor only has stair access). After the steep climb with luggage (We heard some poor soul struggling to get luggage up the stairs and thought he was going to have a heart attack, but he made it before I was able to get out to help). We got settled in, but before the day was over... the TV quit working. Mr. kiosk suggested the typical things (reboot etc...) that I had already tried and had to show him a picture of the screen that showed it had no connection. He said they would have someone fix the next day after treating me like I did not know anything (I worked in IT over 40 years, I can tell when a Roku cannot connect to a network). Next day, after being out all day, came in to relax - no TV still, Mr. Kiosk said we could move to another room... OK we pack up and move to a new room, and it is super cold, go to Mr. Kiosk again because we could not find a thermostat, his solution ... we move to another room that has a thermostat we can adjust on the third floor - no - we are tired we don't want to lug up another flight of stairs, we will just get out another blanket. We did get a call at that point, and I was told the thermostat is currently in another room for the whole floor, but I can go and adjust (got there and it was set to 66), so we finally was able to settle in and watch TV for the night. (They are planning on making changes to have individual controlled, but something you might want to consider). The last day was better, but not sure we will be back even though we did like the room itself. Definitely, buyer beware - ask before booking.

The room is a little smaller than most, but very clean and comfortable. The beds and pillows were awesome. I did have to unplug the refrigerator because it was so loud, but like I said the cooler was right out the door. The attached restaurant was very nice and despite some of the reviews I read quite reasonable. The catfish was great. The free morning breakfast was also very nice. Coffee was especially good. All this for under $100.

Unique Suites failed at the most basic function of a hotel: honoring confirmed reservations…read more I coordinated a family block in March with manager Mike -- 10 rooms, 15% discount, clear terms. What followed was two months of staff giving verbal assurances with zero written confirmation. Calls to Macy (April 8), Stacy (April 18), and Hark (May 11) each produced promises, not paperwork. By the time my family arrived, rooms had evaporated from the system entirely. My aunt held four confirmed reservations with confirmation numbers. She arrived May 21 to be told none of them existed. The only reason three rooms were found at all was because a maintenance employee -- not front desk, not management -- intervened. The fourth room? Simply gone. The rooms they did provide were poorly maintained. No remote for the TV in my parents' room. A detail that's almost funny in context, except nothing about this experience was funny. This isn't a staffing hiccup. It's a systemic failure in reservation management, internal communication, and basic accountability. I would not recommend this property to anyone coordinating group travel, or frankly, any travel at all.

This is a review of Stix Grille, not the hotel itself…read more This was a miss for us. We placed our order, the veggie flatbread for an appetizer, the Wagyu Burger and onion rings, and the $32 Ribeye (medium rare) also with onion rings. Also, I asked for a Triptych beer to be brought out with my burger. Shortly after ordering, we were told they didn't have the ingredients to make the flatbread, so we cancelled the appetizer. When the steak came out, it was far beyond medium rare, with some charring on one end. The burger was passible, but nowhere near the quality I would have expected for something marketed as wagyu. Also, it was not served with chipotle mayo. I had to ask for regular mayo. And my beer never came out until I was done with the burger. Our waiter did an excellent job communicating with us, but the meal was a mess. The steak wasn't worth $32 and was far too thin for them to promise "grilled to your preferred temperature." I let the waiter know we weren't pleased with the steak. No attempt to compensate us was made. This might be a decent place for a quick lunch with a small group, but we don't plan on coming back for dinner.

He's on a walker, so we needed an accessible room with two beds. This was one of the only hotels left in the area (including in Effingham) that met our requirements and didn't break the bank. Hot breakfast was good. Eggs, meat, potatoes, waffles, etc. 24-hour coffee. Computer/printer available. Laundry facilities. Workout room. I didn't use the pool and hot tub, but we saw many guests enjoying it throughout our 2-night stay. Susie was particularly helpful and accommodating. Then we went to my rental car where he engaged just as committedly. He politely asked if I was ok w/ his help, and then used his cell phone lite to look where I had already looked, felt, and told him the retainer was not. But he could see it under the seat and stuck into a gap in the floor paneling. Pretty incredible. Very incredible. Forever grateful. Above and beyond the call.

Upon entering we were greeted by a very friendly lady who was very knowledgable about the area and the hotel. They also had cookies throughout the day = excellent! The rooms were above average in size w/ a couple queen beds, windows that open (a plus as it's rare anymore) and nice flat screen 32 inch TVs. Standard accompaniments in the room w/ free internet - a must anymore. The workout room was a little lacking, but got the job done. An upright and a recumbent bike were present as well as a treadmill. Enough to keep you busy for a bit. The pool area was very nice and located away from the hotel actions which made it nice that people fresh out of the water weren't tracking pool water all over the hotel. The food in the morning was excellent. The sitting area is ample and the food plentiful. They offered hot options including meat, eggs, and cinnamon rolls as well as plenty of fruit, cereal, yogurt and, the show stopper, do it yourself pancakes with what seemed to be a larger, modified easy bake oven! Overall, this was a great place to spend a couple nights. A step up from many of the other hotels in the area and well worth the price of admission with the internet and breakfast. Coffee served all day made it easy to stay alert at all hours and the staff were all exceptionally friendly. This is where we'll be staying when we come to visit in the future.
