In my opinion, it has gotten so big that it seems to have forgotten what it's supposed to be about--helping people. I recently called hoping to be seen because I had eight styes in just two weeks, only to be told I couldn't get an appointment for four months. On top of that, my appointments seem to be changed constantly, even though I schedule them a year in advance. At this point, I'm over it. I tried multiple times to see this eye doctor and it was extremely unprofessional. They originally scheduled me six months out, which was fine. But one month before my appointment, they called and said the doctor would be out of the office and pushed my appointment back another four months. A couple months later, they called again saying she wouldn't be in that day either and wanted to reschedule me even further out. Great care and incredible staff my retina repair went seamless doing second cataract this month

Wow, just got off the phone with Wolf Eye Clinic on the West side of Des Moines. Robin who answered the phone to schedule my appointment was disrespectful to me. I was trying to schedule a regular annual eye exam. She did not listen to my questions or would answer questions with information I did not ask for i.e. different doctors availability or different dates or times of the day. It was weird. She was accusatory of information I provided to her about my past history. I eventually learned that she also lied to me about the availability of several of the doctors. I was belittled, lied to and had an aggressive, unhelpful receptionist. Eventually I spoke with Cheryl Lynn who was knowledgeable, pleasant and engaged in assisting me with scheduling. I read the reviews of horrible Customer Service and in my opinion its true. I was referred by one of my Dr. Friends, of which I value his experience and opinions. I have yet to complete my eye exam due to some issues and I'm trying to reschedule. After a month of headaches and other issues I'm forced to go back to my contacts. My stress level is through the roof when I call in to find out what to do next. At this time, I must figure they don't want my business, and I don't know if I'll be able to get this done in the future. Don't expect great customer services from this place, in my humble opinion. I wanted to give a shout - out to members of the staff who I met during my most recent appointment at The Wolfe Clinic on Westown Parkway. I arrived for my appointment, checked in at the front desk and before I sat down, was called back by Phaedra for an eye exam. Phaedra listened to me as a I told her my symptoms, and we proceeded with the exam. She made me feel at ease with her professionalism, in that she explained the change in my Rx, answered my questions, and then it was time for the Dr. Dr. Schulte did further exams of both eyes (I had cataract surgery 2 years ago) and explained in layman's terms why I was having changes in my Rx. He even asked about my daily routine, and he gave me a 2nd Rx for single vision "Readers" that I could wear during my daily routine of reading in down time. Finally, I checked out at the desk, and there was Cindy. Greeted me warmly, said they could schedule me one year out if I wanted, and so we did. All in all, this was a VERY positive experience, and I'd recommend the Wolfe Clinic without hesitation. 5 stars for everyone - keep up the good work! read more

Good eye clinic for kids who need first time check up and routine check ups. Located on 2nd floor of Lakeview Clinic office. Easy to get to. We've seen Dr Olson. Our first time visiting was because of an eye injury when the kid was 2 years old. Dr Olson reassured me that his eye would recover quickly and it did. We've returned to Dr Olson's office after noticing that the kid needed glasses. We've had a couple routine check ups now. The office is memorable for the children with all the toys and how colorful it looks. You can purchase glasses in the office as well. It's a small section inside the clinic. The eye glass clinic has specific hours when they are open. It has never been convenient for us to purchase glasses there. I give 3 stars because of customer service skills for all of the office: front desk, Dr., and Doc's assistant. They are nice ladies but they're not extra personable or anything. They come off as people who are there to just get you in an out. They're not relatable to the children. I'm sure they love children since they are in the business of serving children but they don't make your visit extra fun or anything. read more

Take One: The testing - I had an appointment to have my eyes tested for the possibility for laser surgery. We walked in and checked in for the testing. It got ushered in for quick test, then sat in another waiting room. After awhile, then I got called for another test, and then back to the waiting room, then another test and back to the waiting room, then a check on the last test, and then back to the waiting room, and lastly to see the DR. Yes, I really went back and forth multiple times. Finally I got the thumbs up to leave, however.... well my husband was with me for the exact same testing. Funny how he had not even gotten his first test done by my fourth. Our appointments where at 11ish, we had arrived early, HOWEVER we did not leave that building till almost 3 pm that day. --- So we are just a couple days from our surgery and I will update again after the surgery. Everyone was really nice, hopefully everything else will go smooth, I still know i want no one else but Wolfe clinic to touch my eyes. Day of surgery!! Got a nice voicemail reminder the day before. Jodi was kind and answered my questions. We walked in, checked in. Paying for everything was easy. They took whatever from my fsa and then split the rest on the credit card. We went over add joined the few other couples sitting and waiting. Got the run down on everything and then given the valium to try and calm me. 1. That's not enough drugs to calm me. 2. Finally they started getting us through, and they aren't messing around. They get you in there and turn them out. 3. They take you in, do a quick drops and the Dr. comes over and says he'll talk ya through it. get you on the table and go. 4. The nurses and Dr Johnson did fabulous in talking as things happened. 5. wasn't even 10 min and I was done, I'm pretty sure I about hyperventilate, but I heard my husband was a champ. 6. I could see fine, they check you again and get you gone....with clear eye shields. "I'm a bug!" They kept saying "we are going to get out of here before you hate us. " 7. About an half an hour the numbing drops wear off and you hate them!!!!! Note: they say go home and go to sleep. IT'S 4 Pm ..You're body doesn't want to go to sleep. But you try, they pain is intense. So we took melatonin and finally fell asleep. When I woke up at 11pm it didnt really hurt anymore. But I did my drops and went back to sleep. Our check up was the next morning. We had pulled our shields off and felt pretty good. Things are still a bit foggy or fuzzy but doing really well. I'm excited on the whole deal now it's done! We have another check up in a few weeks with regular eye Dr but for now I'm just gonna heal and hope the broken blood vessels aren't to visible. read more

I used to go to Wolf growing up, so I had decided to come back since I've moved back in town. I scheduled my appointment in April of 2022 and had my appointment scheduled with the "first available" at the end of August 2022. I had asked ahead of time if they took my insurance to which their answer was " we take almost all insurance". What they fail to mention is that the only take medical insurance, not vision insurance. Tried several times trying to hack it by repeating "leave a message leave a message leave a message" even as it said because I was not speaking the call would be terminated. Went to their website. To schedule an appointment all 15 fields required. Drop box for reason does not include routine eye exam. So, I have to lie about why I want an appointment to get an appointment? And yes, I am already a patient for routine eye exams. So, I called the number (different from previous number) for emergencies or prefer to schedule by phone. This office is a great place to go for all your eye needs. I have been going to Dr. Schulte for many years. He is very thorough and does not say let's just watch sometime. He will research your issue and do testing to find a treatment. Plus he is a very kind and compassionate physician. They run on time and all the staff are very friendly and efficient. I had surgery for my Strabismus (crossed eye) with Dr. Bittner at the Wolfe Clinic surgery center and it was wonderful. He is so nice and patient, and explains everything very well. The surgery was a great success. I'm no longer cross-eyed and don't have to close one eye when I watch TV or drive my car! Everyone at the Wolfe Clinic is always very professional and helpful. I would never go anywhere else for my eye care. I had LASIK surgery with them 24 years ago and they were wonderful back then too. I went from being legally blind to having about 20/30 vision - good enough for a driver's test! I took my mother there for cataract surgery several years ago with Dr. Davison and he also is extremely nice and did a great job on her eyes. read more

First, not going to be too specific because it had to do with credit, but took a family member there a couple years ago, and recently they had a data breach back in February 2021, it's now July! They also said they completed their investigation about who was compromised in May 2021... it's July! Please, PLEASE join me in never using this business again! This cannot be the standard! Companies must be held accountable for poor cyber security! When I called to talk to the business office, they wouldn't talk to me, they sent me to a 3rd party in California and told me it "would probably be a long wait because there's a lot of people it affected". Whew, am I lucky that I came here for my cataract surgery!!! From Angie at the front desk, Sarah the Director, the nurses Jill, Gayle, and Nancy, and Andrew the Anesthesiologist it was a great day for me. Dr. Davison is awesome, funny, and very caring. This surgery was terrifying (in my mind) but in reality is was not terrifying at all!!! I don't remember a darn thing. I got out of bed this morning and shocked at the bright and colorful world around me. Oh, and the dusty apartment. Dear Lord, who's been cleaning? Mr. Magoo? Apparently. It's 24 hours after my procedure and so far so good! Dr Davidson and his team were great to work with. They answered all my questions before I had an opportunity to ask them and provided written instructions broken down in an easy to follow and easy to understand language. While I was hoping to fit surgery in before the end of the calendar year when I scheduled my consult in November, I had to wait until the first half of January to actually get in. Something to keep in mind that people don't talk about but could be a consideration for you, you can't wear contacts the week before your consultation exam and the week before surgery. Wolfe Eye Clinic has great doctors but that is where it ends. The first impression you get when you walk in the door you are met by the haughty receptionist who treats you like the rest of the staff, a piece of meat being ready to be thrown to the lions. They have no empathy and they have no customer service training, they are a disaster. I had a 3 o'clock appointment at 3:45 I am still waiting to see the doctor. I walked into the office behind the waiting area and was told they were short-staffed and the wait would be another 15 to 25 minutes. I walked out. There is no respect from any of the employees for the patients, never has been. This is my second and last time complaining because I will never go back. Being short-staffed is not my problem, if they had any common sense they would have an employee letting the patients waiting knowing there were running behind and why. But they don't care about the patients and never have. Wolfe Eye Clinic is the poorest run Eye Clinic I have ever been in. And the staff at their home office is even worse. This was my first time going to Wolfe Eye Clinic. It was a referral from my doctor to get an eye exam. When I checked in they told me the fee for the exam was $140. I paid them $140. Almost a month later I get a bill in the mail that shows the fee was $361. It shows my payment of $140 and a 'patient adjustment' of $161 leaving me with an additional bill of $60. I own a business and if this is how I handled things with my customers I'd be out of business. Don't recommend them and won't use them again. read more

Apparently, if you have an old bill from Wolfe eye clinic that was sent to collections without your knowledge, don't pay Wolfe, even if by some miracle they ask, even if every time you go in for appointment you ask what is your balance and make a payment then. Even if you make payments, they won't go to your oldest bill, and they will trick you into paying when you call them. After that is when it will go on your credit report. It's convoluted, and when you try to discuss it, they will do what they can to make you feel like crap, like repeating that several notices were sent (but I was making payments??? So why does that matter??) If I'm sending in payments, I assume the bill is going down. If I ask when I go in, and they say there's no balance, how's that my fault? AFTER the account was paid in full, then the collections went on my Credit report account. H & R NEVER notified me of a collections account with them for Wolfe. My daughter broke her glasses and our prescription is expired because of Covid. Now Dr Kahn expects my daughter to go 2 months with no glasses because they can't see her until then. Unbelievable! Guess going to the same clinic for 10 years means nothing. read more

My son (2 1/2) was walking with a xylophone stick and fell. The stick cut his eye right underneath his eye and very close to his eye. I was afraid the stick had poked his eye under the very thin skin. When we went to the Emergency Room they did not check his vision except asking him to "track the doctors finger". SoI called Wolfe and explained what had happened and they got us right in to their pediatric Opthalmologist, Dr. Bitner. Dr. Bitner was very thorough and kind and couldn't believe how lucky we were that we did not have even a minor injury to my son's eye! This was our second time here, we have been here once before, also for pediatric eye issues for 2 of our four children. I had such a great experience at Wolfe Eye Clinic in West Des Moines! I saw Dr. Johnson who performed Lasik on me and he has been great every time I've seen him. He is very knowledgeable and very understanding of my unique situation. The actual Lasik procedure was painless! I couldn't feel anything! They were so caring during it all and walked me through what was happening and what was going to happen. It went just like they said it would! I have to give a special shoutout to Dr. Johnson's nurses who are the kindest people I have ever experienced! Cindy is amazing. She was at my first appointment and took very good care of me and really took the time to make me feel better about my situation. I didn't see her the next time I went in but she made sure to find me during the surgery to make sure I was doing ok. Then at my follow up appointment the next day she came and found me to see how I was doing! And she took it upon herself to help me schedule my next appointment as the one they had scheduled for me wouldn't work. She is seriously the best and I'm so grateful to have her as a nurse at Wolfe!! She truly went above and beyond for me. Marsha is also amazing, she took good care of me during my second appointment to make me feel better. The day of surgery I met briefly with Kim and she was amazing as well! No call, so made the trip and they refused to do the Lasik surgery because of this health problem! Vance Thompson Vision has a state of the art facility and a courteous professional staff. I went to Wolfe eye clinic and they refused to do the surgery... I am so Thankful that they refused service as I ended up with the best Lasik surgeon. Vance Thompson Vision are known for correcting others Doctor's failed eye surgeries! So why not start with the Best? I am a 59 year old male that was totally blind without glasses, after surgery I have 20/15 vision and only need reading glasses for very small print. I should have done this years ago! I was really nervous about having this surgery, but Dr. Vance Thompson and his staff was really good about talking me through this procedure. It is really cool, they take you into the procedure room, you lay down on the table and it moves you to the lasik machine and it verifies, then it automatically moves you over to the Lens cutting machine and the incisions are made, then it takes you back to the lasik machine and with in a few minutes you have Great Vison! Then they verify that the incision is properly in place. I walked out of Vance Thompson Vision on my own two feet, seeing better than I can remember! I live in Hawaii and was very disappointed with the referral I got there. I discussed my issues with a Des Moines optometrist I know well and was referred to the Wolfe Clinic. The Clinic was very efficient in scheduling me for a consult and surgery in the brief window I had while visiting the area. I couldn't have asked for better customer service and the outstanding job Dr. Davison did doing my right cataract. Dr Greenberg was also a great follow-up doctor who checked the post surgical issues. I will NEVER go back here and certainly not to Justin Schulte, who does not deserve to have Dr. in front of his name. My first visit here will be my last. I was called first thing in the morning of my appointment, told there was a "scheduling error" and asked to move up my appointment. I moved MY work schedule around to accommodate their error only to get there and wait until after my initial appointment time to be seen. The technician was nice but I could tell she felt rushed. Schutle kept swarming around and finally came in and said he would "take over" because clearly she was not rushing through my prep fast enough. My husband who has worked in the field for 19 years was with me and already was concerned because my eyes could not possibly have dilated to where they needed to be for the exam in that short amount of time. Due to eye surgery I have had. my vision fluctuates and so usually it takes longer for my refraction. I mentioned the surgery and the difficulty multiple times. Yet, when it came time for my refraction as he was showing me the first set of letters and asking "which looks clearer, one or two." they looked the same. Due to the fluctuations in vision, I sometimes need to see them several times. I have never had a physician or OD have trouble with that in fact I have always been encouraged to take my time or that they look the same is an acceptable answer. After telling him it looked the same he said, "Throw me a bone here. I don't want to have to show you each one three times." I should have gotten up and left but I was so shocked. He then rushed me through while I guessed at which was the better one because clearly he had somewhere to be and I was not going to be scolded again for needing to have another look I have never been treated so rudely at a doctors office in my life His job is to get it right and actually give me the exam I am paying for. I am sure that nothing will be accurate since I have no idea what looked good and what didn't as I chose as quickly as I could so I could leave. As my husband and I left we asked to speak with the office manager, who also had left and apparently they do not give out email addresses, which I also have never heard of happening. What a joke that they care about quality care. I hope the rest do, but I sure will not go back to find out. What a horrible experience. read more
