Lovely park with great dog owners, these people know how to and should own a dog. They're…read moreresponsible and are extremely attentive to their dogs and to their surroundings. There's signs at the entrance of the park that warns people either that have dogs that are fixed or owners that are irresponsible can be reported (and should). They even provide the number and everything in case that should arise. Thankfully it didn't the day we went. While some parks also have some sparse water areas, this one has PLENTY. It has two really well functioning water fountains, and nearby are restrooms in case you need to go or they are shut off. For people, bring your own water. These are not recommended for your consumption. It is funny that most of the dogs congregate in one small area despite the fact there's a much larger to the park, but that's not the fault of anybody but the dogs. Check it out if you have a dog and live in the area.

To see Cooper splash around in the waves trying to figure out what it was, his excitement was palpable! What a joy to see my best friend experience the beach! Tips: it opens at 6pm and the parking is free, the best lot is directly placed at the beach entrance at 8th avenue. Bring water and a bowl for your pooch! Leashes may be a good idea especially if your pup is unpredictable and young like my 10 month old Boxer/Lab is. There's a few wild cats dogs and owners ignorant of what their dog is doing so keep an eye out, but of all the dogs Cooper met, there was only one who needed a little discipline. Can't visit this beach enough, glad I'm part of the dog owners club again!

Verterans Park is a nice sized park that's easily accessible from multiple points. The park is…read morewell equipped with various sporting facilities, including tennis courts, volleyball nets and even a small, ver basic, skate park. There's even a location for roller hockey. There are play areas for kids, and picnic tables (including covered picnic locations) for families looking to spend some time out of doors. It can be very crowded on a nice weekend, which is both good and bad, as I'm glad that they park is being used by the Township's citizens, but at the same time, you always want the nice places all for yourself. There are parking areas on different sides of the park, and I prefer to park on the Hamilton/Whitehorse Road side, but that spot is pretty small, is popular with runners, and fills up especially fast on weekends. To make matters worse, for some reason the City recently installed E-Car charging stations there (sure, pick the smallest lot--nice work, Hamilton), so parking in those four spaces is no longer available for anyone, as the even the e-cars must leave after charging. There are well paved paths that lead through the park, and there are park maps located in a few places along the main paved paths. There are also dirt trails that lead through the more wooded areas in the park, but sadly, they are very poorly marked--meaning almost not at all, and it's up to you to figure them out. However, the park isn't so big that you can really get lost, so...go out and try to get lost, and you'll figure out the dirt trails soon enough. They aren't nearly as popular as the paved trails, so they should be your destination if the sensation of having the park to yourself is a goal. There's a dog park located by the Kuser Road entrance. There's a fenced in area for large and smaller dogs, but to be brutally honest, both areas are tiny compared to the expansive dog park located at Rosedale Park in nearby Pennington. That said, if you just want to bring your dog to a place where they can socialize and you're not worried about them having a place to run, it's fine. Just make sure you walk them through the main park itself before or after so that they can get some exercise. On the negative side, other than the poorly marked dirt trails and the underwhelming size of the dog park, the main problem in Veterans Park, which is pretty much the main problem in every park in the county. The city recently put up signs saying there will be improvements made to the paths that include separate bike lanes. It's a good idea, and a necessary one , but I'll be surprised if the people on feet respect the bike lines. Prove me wrong, Hamilton!

The playground area is big, with a brand artificial turf ground and is very toddler friendly. I really do love the many options for playtime at this set up, however, the slides closets to the parking lot are a big high in height. There is a baseball/softball field and a large walking and running trial that many people come to use.

One area is a little bit better for smaller kids so it's nice that they have two different options. The best part about the splash pad is the reservation system. You must make a reservation online, and you have a 1.5 hour time slot. Splash pads can get packed on a hot day, so this was a great way to control the crowd. Once your time is up there's an enormous playground right next door. There is so much to see and do that you could easily spend hours here without getting bored. Overall this is a fantastic township recreation area. It's clean and well-maintained, and there are endless play options for kids.

The trails are perfect for walking your furry dogs, in-line skating, cycling, easy walking and pushing strollers. There is also a repair station with a tire pump and tools found near the basketball courts. The Challenger Place has finally finished and is a designed playground for kids who are blind or visually impaired. Their sport courts include tennis and basketball courts, as well as an in-line skating rink. The athletic field is available for rental and may be used for baseball games but not for practices. I have heard they have swimming pools but I personally did not see it. Instead, I saw a spray ground (water-enhanced playground) which was to open in mid-May but given our current situation with the COVID-19 outbreak, this is doubtful for mid-May 2020 due to the pandemic restrictions. Normally, it would open mid-May through early September. I would imagine the busiest time to be there with kids is during the height of summer because summer camps are held there by the Monmouth County Park System and Challenged Youth Sports from Middletown.
