My absolute favorite yarn store. They have an amazing selection with great quality yarn and the customer service is fantastic. The owner is the sweetest and I would gladly drive an hour just to support her wonderful shop. Since this was the first LYS I ever visited, it's been the standard. Unfortunately, not many places reach the same expectations. I've visited many other yarn stores and this one is by far the most organized and clean. They don't increase the prices of the yarn and if they do it's like 25 cents at the most; they are actually sometimes cheaper than online stores. Lastly, I never felt unwelcome for not being the stereotypical knitter, which has happened to me in other LYS. Please support this shop so it never goes away lol read more

Pro: Great supplies and a cozy space. Con: REALLY cold service. I'm new to knitting and my questions felt like they were met with annoyance. The 2 people who worked there were waaay more interested in doing their own projects than providing good customer service. While I was checking out, they were asking each other tips on how to do their own projects, which made me feel invisible given I was still being helped. I tried to make small talk and that was shut down with a 1 word answer. This is not the place to go if you have questions about knitting - they don't have the time of day. I still went forward with my purchase, but I wish I would have stayed authentic to myself and just left as soon as I walked in - the coldness was felt immediately. They also offer classes, but I can't see who would want to take a class there with that kind of service and disdain towards people. read more

This store is so charming! There are so many fantastic and high-quality yarns here to choose from. The wool is organized by color which is super helpful, and as someone who was using acrylic yarn to start out, switching to wool feels luxurious. Kathy is super helpful and friendly and had great online resources for crochet and knit patterns. Also, they will wrap your yarn in a ball for you, which is a really special touch. Brought my mom here since she loves to knit and was visiting from DC. Beautiful selection and everyone was really helpful and kind inside. Lots of natural daylight so you can see the colors accurately. Easy to get to, we just parked in the Target garage and walked since we were going to target anyway. I finally made it out to visit Abuelita's since they made the move to Pasadena, and it is still as cute as ever. When I went, I was greeted by a friendly woman working the register, and we talked about knitting and crochet, and she was so cute and showed me which yarns were new, which colors were new, the hand dyed yarns, a shawl she had made out of a new yarn they just got, etc. She asked me whether I knit or crochet, and I told her I used to knit a lot, but now have given up knitting for crochet. I told her about my Etsy shop, and she was so excited for me (sooooo cute!) but I felt kind of bad because I would never buy yarn from a fancy yarn shop to make the items I sell in my shop. It just costs way too much. The shawl she showed me took 7 skeins to make. And each skein was like $20. What the..?! Well, that's what you can do with your money if you have a lot of it, I guess. I am currently a poor grad student, so I will not be making a 7-skein shawl, but I did take home a lovely Blue Sky Alpaca Azuli yarn :) It's a lovely cotton yarn, so it's machine washable! If you have any questions about yarn, go ahead and ask the staff at Abuelita's, they will be happy to help you! Also, they will spin the yarn for you into a ball if you want - the other lady used to ask me, but this time she didn't so I had to ask. While recently visiting Pasadena from out of town I stopped by this knitting store, and was charmed by its offerings. Its tucked into a little shopping courtyard right of Colorado Blvd, with parking on the street or validated in the back parking lot. Its a small store, with a small selection but that selection is a very nice quality of yarns sizes and colors. They offer a community table and a delightful array of knitting fun stuff too (place markers, cases, bags, etc) If you are looking for a mega selection this isn't the place, but if you are stopping by town and eating at any of the fun restaurants and a knitter - I highly recommend you come over and just take a look. I recently made an afghan as a wedding gift with wool I purchased from Wollhaus. Unfortunately, there was a previously unknown problem with the spinning that caused a lot of pilling, which made me unable to give the blanket away. When I brought the finished product in to show Ulli, she contacted the vendor to find out what happened and fully reimbursed me for the yarn. How delightful to feel supported by a business owner.
