Love a good independent bookstore but this one is a little too generic - almost like an airport store. They seem to have plenty of help, but the staff is a little shy. It's very hard to park here, like elsewhere in Bronxville, but the restaurant next door has a tent in front of the bookstore that makes it worse and makes it difficult to check out the stuff in the window. read more

Stopped by this place before going for dinner nearby. I went 30mins before closing so I didn't have much time to look at everything. But I had a really nice experience. They had a good selection of books and noticed that they have a seating area in the back which I thought was very nice. The new books were at the front so I gravitated towards that area. I picked up a book and a gentleman said it was a good book and proceeded to recommend another one by the same author. I assume he was the owner. He was very nice. When I went to pay I asked if they had a particular book and she said they didn't have it but could order it for me. I didn't end up ordering it but I know I will go back for more books. I would definitely come back here and support local businesses read more

This is not a used bookstore. I came here to say this. If you want to spend time browsing used books this is not the place. Yes they have what they describe as a "used book corner". It is just a couple bookcases with random old books on them. Some were priced, some weren't. Conditions varied. Some boxes of books. It will take you fifteen minutes to look at all of them and decide you don't want any of them. The rest of the bookstore seemed nice. Small. I thought it seemed curated, the wife just thought it was a pretty standard selection of popular classics and best sellers. Nice seating area. Appeared to be 3 people working. My wife said hi when we walked in. She's friendly. They said hi. No one asked if they could help us find anything. This in my opinion is why these shops die. If I wanted no service I would go on Amazon and buy the books for 15-20% less. Spoiler alert; I do. Is this bad? Probably. The local bookstore is a dying breed. It is great that Bronxville still has such bookstore. The selection is quite limited. Now Womrath's is a small town store so obviously the store cannot compete with the layout of Barnes & Noble. So I do not blame Womrath for picking books due to space limitations. However, the books seem to be weighted towards one ideological direction. The lack of ideological diversity or more specifically the weight of books towards a more liberal point of view makes one who holds different point of view consider possibly taking their business elsewhere. Seeing how many conservative books are bestsellers, I have been very surprised at various times to not see these books on the store's shelves. Womrath would be a far better store if they welcomed more diverse books. Right now, it seems like Womrath is scared to have certain conservative books because it might upset certain customers who chances are would not purchase such a book. Also it seems like Womrath has failed to consider that Bronxville and the surrounding area is ideologically diverse. Conservatives or those who enjoy reading different opinions live in the area too. Keeping certain books off the store's shelves will only hurt the store in the long run by allowing that customer to take their business elsewhere. While the person who might have been upset is still likely to purchase books at Womrath even though the store sells a particular book written by a conservative writer. read more

I've been coming here for the past year whenever I want to buy a book. I'd rather give business to local businesses than Amazon. The people here are always kind and pleasant to deal with and whenever I need a book, they order it for me and it arrives fast. I love supporting people and families whenever I can. We need more Womrath businesses. Life is incomplete without them. Whenever I buy my book from Womrath, I'll start reading it in one of the local restaurants. read more

I've been here twice after a lunch by the taco project and I love it. Its hard to find bookstores nowadays especially local ones that are thriving. They have a very local feel about them that makes me wanna support them. While the name of this bookstore sounds a little bit like that of the wombat, this place is a warm little enterprise where you can get a good book. Although Womrath Book Shop stops just short of being a complete and total indie bookstore franchise, there is nothing about it that screams "chain" or otherwise indicates that you've stepped into something that could be easily relocated to your neighborhood mall. It's a tiny place, and yes, they do have a shelf or two devoted exclusively to "Twilight," but you'll definitely find a range of thoughtful, thought-provoking books here, from Nabokov to "Americans in Paris," the World War II nonfiction saga, to books on NYC. There's even a small toy store-style section for kids. An older couple was manning the counter when I was there, and I'm not sure if they were the owners or if they were just employees. Even so, their presence lent a calm, serious element to the store. Barnes and Noble this place definitely isn't, and you won't find cafes or obnoxious lines at this place. Womrath hails back to a time when bookstores were bookstores, not commercial conglomerates. At Womrath, you can go in for a book and leave with a treasure. It's a nice little place for bookworms. read more

There is a lot of good reading packed in this tiny space. They order in items for you that arrive lickety split, and are willing to research out of print items for you. Every city and town needs an independent bookstore. Like most, I frequent indie bookstores because of their vibe, because they carry interesting items, because the staff is well-read and knowledgeable, because they make the neighborhood better and serve as a neighborhood gathering place. Why bother creating a bookstore that is nothing more than a mini Barnes and Noble in both feel and selection. Southern Westchester needs a great bookstore (think Three Lives & Company in the Village, Book Culture uptown, Politics & Prose in DC, or the now closed BookCourt in BK). This is not the store. The place is sterile, the staff is unfriendly, the selection is subpar, and it's filled with "stuff" that one can easily purchase at CVS. Why? I don't come to a bookstore to buy junk. I frequent such stores to find a great new book that inspires me. There was no inspiration to be had at this store As avid and voracious readers, we walked in, said hello to the staff who looked at us as if we had three heads each (apparently people don't say hello to one another in Bronxville), perused the bland and uninspiring selection of adult and children's books (some children read books other than pinkalicious) and left deeply disappointed. This place deserves a one star, but I give it two stars because it is the only store to be had in the area. read more

This rating is based upon several visits to Womraths. I really was hoping that this would be a positive experience; an independent book store, how lovely. I thought the staff would be helpful - maybe know a thing or two about books. Perhaps, welcome you into the store or at least say thank you for a purchase. That was not to be. The staff are just plain rude. My book club requests stock from this store but I will not visit them in the future. They actually make buying from amazon a joy! Womraths, you really need to work on customer service. I have shopped in your store for years. Last week, I purchased $140. This week I was splurging on magazines. I went to pay for my $26.00 bounty with my credit card and was informed that only cash was accepted for magazines. I never heard of such a rule. The clerk let me know in no uncertain terms that I failed to read the cash only sign taped to the magazine stand. Shame on me! Womraths, you need a face lift and a crash course on customer service. read more

Great selection of children's books. A little cramped inside but I think that adds to the overall charm of the store. I picked up an adult coloring book from a small display up front/by the register. Looks pretty cool and it's supposed to be akin to meditation. I'm sure this place is pricier than Barnes and Noble or Amazon but I think it's nice to support a local small business. read more

Womrath's is a fantastic bookstore that is super convenient! The book selection is well-curated and the friendly owners are able to make good suggestions. It's my default stop for children's gifts- they have a nice variety of toys, and gift cards are always popular. We are so blessed to have a store like Womrath in the Village - not only do they stock all the new titles, I can walk in and say to Wanda or Gene "I read about this book a month or two ago..... it was about xyz... don't know the author.... AND THEY WILL FIND IT! If they don't have it, they will order it and call you in a few days. They make reading suggestions for the kids, find out of print books... you name it. I love my Womrath gift cards - both giving and receiving, and they gift wrap! Best of all, I'm speaking to a PERSON, in this case a number of lovely helpful people - the best! read more

I love this little, personal bookshop, where the service is so friendly. If they don't carry a book, they are happy to order it for you, particularly books of local and community interest. They even have a teensy, small used book section with a nice selection - I've purchased Christmas gifts and saved a little $ here.
