You see...for the majority of my life, I've had chronic sinus infections (like 3 to 4 a year), and I finally made a huge decision that will benefit for years to come. Before I talk too much about the care here, I just want to shout out to the office staff at Englewood ENT. They are always accommodating, and the online appointment feature makes it a breeze to schedule things online. By the time I was through with my procedure, the staff got to know me personally - and that is something you need when going through an intense medical procedure. While all the doctors here are wonderful, Dr. Ojo is really special. Her bedside manner is calm and informative, and she patiently explains everything while you ask questions. Over the years we've gotten to know each other a little more (especially since I saw her the most this year), and not only is she an awesome doctor, but a wonderful person, too. (I know that being a great physician is top priority in every medical case, but it doesn't hurt to support someone who is genuinely awesome!) My sinus journey is a long one. As I mentioned, I grew up having chronic sinus infections - perhaps one or two per season. Most people only get one or two of them in their lives. I would fall into this pattern of seeing urgent care doctors, they would give me a z-pac which wouldn't be strong enough, and the infection would be reoccurring. By the end of winter, I would be so badly infected that I would go into Dr. Ojo's office and she would kindly and playfully admonish me on why it took me so long to get to her office. This year, she picked up on this pattern and we realized that for the past 5 years or so, I would come to her every year (nearly to the same day, around Valentine's Day) with a terrible sinus infection that's brewed all year. She's always mentioned that I should consider getting my deviated septum fixed, but I was always scared of the surgery. This year, however, I happened to have five sinus infections from November to April (plus the flu thrown in there), and Dr. Ojo recommended a CT scan to see what was going on. Turn's out, my deviated septum was way worse than anyone could have imagined - it was so bad that she asked if I got into a car accident or got hit in the nose with something. After many years of dealing with infections and antibiotics, I finally made the jump and entrusted Dr. Ojo to do the surgery - and I am so glad I did! It is an outpatient surgery (you can see my review of the place on my profile), and you will be recovering for about 10 days, plus follow up appointments in the weeks to come. Most people associate sinus surgery with black eyes and a swollen face - not so with Dr. Ojo! She has the magic touch and my post-op went great without complications. Most people couldn't even tell I had surgery, even days after it was all said and done. It is pretty amazing that she knows how to perform such an intense surgery in a compact and delicate area. I am officially 9 weeks post-op and have never felt better! I can BREATHE through both nostrils, which I've never been able to do in my life! And I am SO ready to get a common cold like everyone else! If you are consider such a surgery, I can't recommend Dr. Ojo enough. She really changed my life for the better! Not to mention, this whole thing reminds us of how important it is to see an ENT when it comes to things like colds and allergies.

This place has somewhat limited insurance options but I took a chance and paid out of pocket based on some of the positive reviews I saw and I was glad I came here as the whole place was well organized, clean and the wait time was minimal. The staff was also very friendly and well informed. My followup appointment with the audiologist was also without fuss and I was in and out very quickly and I got the results right away. This place is definitely very good so you know you'll get quality care, but just make sure you check in advance to make sure you have a good idea of insurance options just to make sure you don't end up paying more than you expect to. The folks here are very helpful with that.

Things started out great with these folks. They were able to get to the bottom of a series of…read moresymptoms I had been having, which was an incredible relief. As time moved forward, I began to see less of my doctor and more of a physician's assistant. I felt she was judgmental and did not understand my condition, even though the MD there diagnosed it. I continued to get sick as time moved on. Eventually, requested to see the doctor before leaving, who did not agree with the PA's interpretations. The office began making errors, scheduling me for crucial testing, then not having records of the appointments and not conducting the tests (I had text and email confirmations). This happened several times. I would show up or call to confirm for testing only to be told there was no record of the appointment I had waited several weeks for. The critical testing never occurred. Sadly, i moved on. I ended up with one of the top specialists in Nj for my condition and it had been a night and day difference. I have actually started getting better. Lastly, my new cardiologist was aghast at some of the decisions that had previously been made with regard to my diagnosis and treatment by this practice. Once I left Cross County, I actually started getting healthier and I am back to living my everyday life.

Wow, what an awful, miserable human being Dr. Steven Zaretsky is. The first time I saw him I…read morefigured he maybe lacked some bedside manners and chocked it up to busyness or a bad day. Unfortunately my insurance company required me to return. He was so rude to me that I wouldn't have been more shocked if he'd slapped me across the face. His impatience throughout ("come on, just answer the question!") was outdone only by his exasperation with my answers ("was it April or May? Get it right!") and was punctuated by a disgusted sneer when he all but called me a liar ("looks like we've got an actress on our hands here."). It was truly unbelievable, and the receptionist who he brought into the office without explanation to witness my humiliation looked pretty embarrassed by his behavior as well, if unsurprised, leading me to believe that he treats all his patients like this. I felt pretty bad for her. I worked for years in the service industry, so I can't stand lollygaggers who waste time and always try to be efficient. I consider myself a pretty easy patient. Dr. Steven Zaretsky treated me like I was total scum that he was forced to take the time to scrape off his shoe. I would rather undergo surgery with a rusty razor than be forced to return here. We returned to Dr. Hale after my mother underwent a second back surgery that left her in severe…read morepain and struggling to walk. Because he had done her original fusion and had such a strong reputation, we trusted him to give us an honest assessment. I brought her most recent CT and MRI scans, along with lab results showing a GFR of 17--the morning of that second surgery--indicating she was not an appropriate surgical candidate at the time. I also presented the report showing that a Coflex device had been used directly above a prior fusion, something that multiple sources list as contraindicated. Dr. Hale spent only a few minutes with her, glanced at the scans, and said everything looked fine. He offered no comment on the labs or the contraindicated device and simply recommended outpatient therapy. After her condition rapidly declined, we sought a second opinion from a top spinal surgeon at HSS, who reviewed the same imaging and said she was in urgent need of surgical intervention at that time. Unfortunately, by then it was too late. My mother is now wheelchair-bound, on dialysis three times a week, and unlikely to survive more than six months. She will live out what time she has left in pain--and in torment--knowing that those she once trusted to protect her instead looked the other way. From where I sit, it seems doctors protect their own, even when a patient's life is on the line.
