I've been desperately wanting to try this place since I heard it was coming to Raleigh, so when a friend and I found ourselves leaving a nearby event and looking for dinner, I jumped at the chance to try it. TLDR: I was so disappointed! The vibe is cool, and the hostess was sweet as can be. But our waiter started off rough when we asked him what the sauce on the shrimp bao was and he looked at us blankly and said he really didn't know how to describe it. We eventually figured out that it should be analogous to bang bang sauce, so we ordered those, the brisket bao, & the potstickers to share, plus we each got a taco (shrimp for her and tuna for me). We also ordered the strawberry basil rum-based cocktail to share. The cocktail was ok to me and unpalatable to her - it didn't have even a hint of discernible basil flavor. It tasted like the strawberry daiquiris my parents made in the early 90s except poured over ice instead of frozen. It was fine, but not worth the price to me. Then it was on to the bao. They were both weirdly moist on one side, like they had been sitting on the plate too long. The filling was good, but eating the bun was like eating wet bread. We ate the filling and left the buns (disappointing for the price!). The shrimp is fried and the sauce was good. I was surprised to prefer the brisket - it is quite spicy, though! Next we tried the potstickers. They were decent but nothing outstanding. I am no potsticker aficionado but they seemed very similar to the fried dumplings at Bul Box... but more expensive and less tasty. Last were the tacos. My friend took one bite of hers and made a weird face before placing it back on the plate and pushing it away - she said it just was not good. I saved my tuna poke lettuce wrap taco for last because it sounded so good, and the waiter had pronounced it the best thing on the menu when I ordered it. It was the biggest disappointment of the night. It wasn't wrapped at all; it was just a piece of lettuce with toppings piled on it. The lettuce was too floppy and wilted to use it as a taco. There was too much of whatever was wet in the toppings - there was literally a wet puddle around it. There were so many green onions in it I couldn't even pick them all out (they are not in the menu description, and I hate them). And the tuna, while beautiful in appearance, was variable in quality. Some chunks were great; some chunks had a weird texture like the stuff you cut off of chicken when you're cleaning it. And some was so fishy I had to spit it out. I estimate I ate about half of it. So overall, some things were good, some things were not, and some were in between. I'd give it 2.5 stars if I could but I rounded up. At a lower price point I'd be more forgiving, perhaps. This restaurant is literally next door to my new office, so some colleagues and I went for lunch midweek. For some reason, I thought this was a fast-casual restaurant but it's definitely sit-down. Food was what I expected: a fusion of Latin and Asian. Our waiter was very professional and thorough with his recommendations and order-taking. My colleagues ordered various taco combos, but I was more interested in the beef bulgogi bowl, which was find and filling. I would've given my experience 5 stars, but there was so little fish in the Wong John Silver taco. I was excited to try the Asian-Mexican fusion concept as I enjoy trying new things and fusion concepts appeal to me. Pros: Would be good for a larger party since it was plenty of seating with no wait. Food came out FAST. Prices not bad at all. Sides were under $5 and tacos mostly too and cocktails around $10. Cons: The cocktail I got was awful. It had boba in it, but they don't give you a boba straw to get it out. It tasted bland and watered down. I couldn't drink it. The food was just ok. The shrimp tempura taco lacked flavor and the brisket in the bao bun wasn't tender. However, the street corn was good and the grilled pineapple was a very welcomed side on the menu and tasted good. The booths aren't very comfortable and the music is a bit loud, but not off putting; you could still carry on a conversation. If you're looking for a quick/easy place to grab a decent priced meal, I say go for it and I hope they improve with time. However, I think the location will make it difficult to survive unless they really get better at executing and develop a real following, and that means the food has to be excellent. read more

I enjoyed Wong's Tacos so much on my first visit less than two weeks ago that I've already been back. My Mom and I went for a late afternoon lunch/early dinner on Monday. We were the ONLY people sitting in the dining room at all. There were exactly three people sitting at the bar. So there was a grand total of five customers in the restaurant. The server apologized and said the bar was "backed up because there was only one bartender there". Ummmmmmm. There were FIVE people total in the whole place!! What was the bartender even doing? He gave us plenty of time to decide what to order, and our food came to the table within 15 minutes. I liked my Crispy Brussels Sprouts Taco (although it came to the table cold). I also really liked my well-seasoned Chili-Lime Chicken Taco and my El Blanco Taco. Both were only room temp, but I think that was because of the cold air blowing on them. Tacos come with a choice of flour tortilla, corn tortilla, or lettuce wrap. My friend loved his huge Epic Chorizo Chimichanga, and he ate the whole thing! May 30, 2026 was the third time that we have eaten at Wong's Tacos and the second time that Jordan was out waitress. I had the 3 taco bento box with guacamole. The Wong John Silver taco has been our favorite taco. My wife ordered the brussel sprouts appetizer with other veggies as her favorite. The grilled pineapple was good, but I was expecting warm pineapple rings, so we will skip this. I came here on a Tuesday night at 6:00. We were seated promptly and service was good. We started with the Three Amigos appetizer and all dips were delicious. For my entree, I got the Moo Shu Mushroom taco, the Pork Belly Taco and the Chile Lime Chicken Taco. All were good, but the only one that was fantastic was the mushroom taco. Wong's Tacos gets two thumbs up from me for decoration, taste, and menu options. The inside of the restaurant is decorated to show off their perfect fusion of asian and mexican cuisine, from their wallpaper to the nicknacks and wall decorations. I got a Wongarita (house marg) with desert pear and it was as beautiful as it was tasty. We ordered chips and cheese to start, and the chips were perfectly crisp. For my entree, I got Kung Bao Chicken and Brisket Bao (4 Bao Buns total). The Bao Buns were perfectly cooked and both fillings were fantastic, I don't think I can pick a favorite. My husband and friends had a variety of fusion tacos that looked amazing as well. We got the Crouching Churros for dessert and they were piping hot with a crunchy exterior and a delicious filling inside.
