In the mood for some much needed pizza and this restaurant caught my attention. Their dough is much softer than a regular pizza. They have a decent variety of pizzas and a really good one for vegans. Ordered the meatball appetizer and it was pretty small and dense. The sauce was delicious, being sweet and savory. Could've ordered a jar of it. The chicken parma was the best pizza. The Wood + Fire pizza was great and was wonderful as leftovers. Only downside is the pizzas are small for $21. The service was pleasant and made the experience a good one. read more

Wood + Fire is a regular staple for us. We've had the gnocchi, wood + fire pizza, the verde pizza and we love their Parmesan fries. We sometimes have trouble getting through via the phone to order take out, but that means it's popular so you can't be mad that business is doing so well. What an excellent place. The pizza here is very traditionally Napoleon. Spot on in flavor profile was incredible. The processors were simply delicious and I can't wait to come back and try another variety that they have. Really nice Neapolitan pizza spot in Melrose. Crust was a little floppy, especially for the namesake "Wood + Fire" pizza, which had a LOT of toppings. The flavors were solid though. The beer selection was just OK. The star of the meal for me was the meatballs. My family is from Avellino and these beef and pork meatballs brought me right back to my childhood. Maybe not everyone's taste, but the most authentic I've found anywhere. Truly perfect. read more

Cute place that was able to seat 2 at the bar with no reservation at around 6:45 on a Friday so that was nice. Got the calamari, villanova and campania pizza. Calamari was good with a mayo kind of dipping sauce and nice hot peppers. The pizza was alright, a little softer, I like the bottom a little less floppy but crust was nice. We were looking forward to trying the Neapolitan pizza here. Service was great. Foods were fresh and very tasty. Had truffle fries, mussels, fig prosciutto pizza, and pepperoni pizza. I never thought I would like sweet pizza but the fig prosciutto convinced me to keep trying adventurous toppings. It was tasty and I ate the left over cold from the fridge and it was still awesome. Now I want more of that fig prosciutto pizza as I'm thinking about it. LOL The crust was airy and chewy but didn't have any crunchiness out of the oven. Pepperoni were crunchy and and yummy. Everything was excellent, just need a slight improvement on the crust texture. Prefer the chewy, airy, and semi crunchy crust. Go out and support your local restaurant. Cozy place with great food. Their mac & cheese appetizer is amazing, and their pizza is tough to beat. I'm surprised by the bad reviews due to service. Every business is struggling to find workers. And for some people, serving at night is their second job after working elsewhere during the day. This would help explain the lack of help during the day. We came in on Halloween night, and the place was festively decorated, the wait staff was all wearing Halloween shirts, and they were playing Hocus Pocus. Instant 1 million brownie points. It's not huge inside, but there was enough seating that we didn't feel cramped. Vibe is casual, clean, and intimate. But even beyond the Halloween festivity, let me just say that the food was legit. I ordered the Naples pizza, which came with spicy salami, and it was fantastic. If you like that floppy, brick oven style pizza, this place is for you. Yes, there may be a little bit of char, but that's what you get with this type of pizza... it's still delicious. The wine selection was terrific, the food came out quickly, and service was friendly. The pizza was amazing. The crust was light and airy and I could have kept eating it! The portions were large but not overwhelming. The service was great. Was very busy when we got there and they sure do cram people in. We were lucky they still had outside seating. They don't have a liquor license (just wine and beer). I gave the wine based espresso martini a try. It wasn't a home run, but it hit the spot. Would def recommend this place! read more

After a not so stellar experience the first time around, we decided to visit again. Thank god! It was fantastic today. We had a super late lunch at 3pm and had the place to ourselves. The mussels were miraculous. So clean, plump and flavorful. The beet salad was beautifully plated and balanced. The Mac and cheese. Lord have mercy. It was my daughters but I'm pretty sure all of us ate some. Huge portion. So. Good. The pizzas came last. Both the W+F and a plain cheese. YUM!!!!! The crust. Wood and Fire to me serves the best pizza in Melrose. Their appetizers and entrees are all very good. I would strongly recommend the eggplant rollatini. The wait staff are all very attentive and helpful. Only draw back to me has been when ordering take out. If they tell me 30 minutes I plan on 45 unless I want to wait in what can be a very cramped space. read more
