I drove by this place a couple years ago and have regretted not stopping ever since. This time it was a planned stop, even though it meant leaving my first time on Whiskey Row before 11:00 AM to get here. I had seen the had some higher priced bottles (maybe someday) but i was sure I would find something i liked. I was also sure it would be one of there bourbons . . . . but I ended up leaving with 3 different corn whiskies. One made from red corn, one from blue corn, and a red, white, and blue corn whiskey (250th anniversary of the USA remember). I showed up around 4:00 PM and hadn't signed up for a tour but they were happy to give me a quick tour as well as walk me through every single whiskey. I had a sample flight and ended up taking hme one or two more than planned. Oh, and the guy actually makes wood hats too. You can try them on too. Stopped for a tour and tasting on our way to Hermann. My husband called ahead and booked a tour. We were welcomed upon arrival and the guide took us through some general information. Then, she took us back to where they make their products. They were in the process of distilling the day we visited, so it was fun to see everything in action. We also got to meet and chat with the owner - such a great experience. That guy has lived a LIFE. I'm not a huge whiskey fan, but my husband has liked everything he's had from Wood Hat. Listen up there Whisky/Bourbon fans.....although this little spot is a ways out there, it is dang sure worth taking the time to stop in. You can learn how they create and get a sample of almost all of the spirits they produce, pick up a bottle or two, shop the gear, and maybe even meet the founder himself. There are some of the products that are making it to liquor stores outside of the state/area and it is well deserved. A slight bit pricey, but worth it!! read more

If you're doing a road trip to COMO or KCY, you've got to stop at Wood Hat Spirts. It's a great way to stretch your legs, take a break from the car and taste some amazing bourbon. WHS is just off I-70, so it makes the stop easy to do. My cousins who I was traveling with to COMO, said I had to make the stop and experience Wood Hat. I'm glad they introduced to me to this MO distillery. It's a small and compact place, that has a rustic and dive atmosphere. I thought it was quite charming. The young lady who served us out flights of bourbon (5 for $5) was friendly and very knowledgeable. She explained the differences in our choices and shared with us their selection of local corns and how they are grown. My cousins bought a bottle of bourbon and I got a bottle of WHS made honey. I am a big fan and eater of local honey and theirs is made in bourbon barrels, so I had to have a bottle. This now will be a regular stop for me when traveling I-70 and I want you to stop by, too. After you do, it will be a regular stop for you as well. read more

We had driven by this distillery for years, never with time to stop. Right off the interstate, we finally had an extra day to stop and smell the roses (or drink the bourbon in this case). So glad we did! Wood Hat is a smaller distillery and so we called the day before to verify the time they would open, and they said "what time do you want to come? We'll open then"! When we arrived we were offered a tasting, 5 for $5. Between the two of us we shared so we could each try 10 of their products - almost all of them. We really appreciated the unique taste of different corns they use - not something you get at most distilleries. During our tasting, both the owner and distiller were present and happy to answer all of our questions. We walked away with a few bottles and will definitely make the stop next time we drive by! read more

I've nursed a bottle of Wood Hat Bourbon for over a year. Finally had the opportunity to stop by the distillery and found the people to be as great as their whiskey did a tasting, and the service and friendliness was even better packed a few bottles away, including some local honey and headed back to Texas to smile on my face. read more

Located right off of I-70 Wood Hat Spirits is a tiny location, luckily they have plenty of room for a half dozen people or so to have a whiskey tasting and taste we did. While the whiskey tasting was great the education we received was even better. The staff was knowledgeable and informative on how their product is made and I especially like how they explain what causes the difference in taste between the whiskeys. Overall it was a fun experience but we spent too much money taking their fine products home. We'll be back! read more

Cute little place. On the day we came, they were short-staffed so they weren't able to do a tour. However, we participated in the tasting and that was great! The person that did our tasting went through the whole list of products and explained them. Then we were able to choose 5 in our tasting. We each did the tasting so we ended up being able to taste 10 (we took enough of a sip to get a taste). It was very interesting how they use, yellow corn, red corn, and blue corn to get different products. Some of them were pretty strong and some were very mild. We enjoyed the tasting and came out with a nice bottle to sip on later. I recommend. read more

My parents and I stopped in and loved it. We were just planning on doing a quick tasting, but ended up touring the distillery as well. Adriana our host was super friendly and knowledgeable about the whole process of distilling bourbon. Gary, the owner also talked with us for a bit. Wood Hat is an great place to stop along IS 70 outside of St. Louis. Try all of the spirits. They grow their own corn and the quality is outstanding. The tasting experience is first rate and I am confident you will leave with several bottles. They do give a 10% discount if you purchase 6. They also have fresh honey and some other items you can purchase. read more

I believe this is a fairly new place. We thought we'd try it out and see what they had to offer. It's a cute little place and they have a fairly large selection of whisky and bourbons. I'm not a whiskey or bourbon drinker but my boyfriend really enjoyed it. They make their alcohol out of red, white and blue corn. Not anyone else in the U.S doing this. We paid the $5 for the tour. As far as a huge tour it's not, but it's really informative and interesting. They grow all of their own corn that they make their product out of. It's a small operation but I'm sure it will grow. The berry, berry is very tasty and worth a try too. read more
