Don't live here like I've seen in mentioned in another review the gate gets broken and doesn't get fixed for some time for some reason? Guess a broken gate which people can easily get into is fine for an apartment where people live. They advertise having security for the apartments yet don't do anything as well as the cameras not functioning cause those aren't needed as well I guess??? If you're looking to live in an apartment where security is a concern of theirs or even having a gate that functions and doesn't let random people easily waltz inside without getting stopped or kicked out by the supposed security, then don't live here. read more

I recently rented at Woodchase Apartments short-term for a work contract I had in San Leandro. I must say the whole experience of arranging for a virtual tour, signing the lease, and getting all the ducks in a row that have to do with the move was very smooth, thanks to the manager, Tashayla Walker. She is highly professional and very organized. Plus, she makes it a point to be readily available, to respond quickly, and to take care of whatever request or concern you may have. She obviously cares and knows what she is doing, and throughout my stay I felt well-taken care of. My move-out experience was just as smooth. This has been a safe and cool place overall. I enjoy my place, it's nice and roomy. There is plenty of parking spaces which is a plus for those who have friends and family who come to visit. Another plus is the maintenance crew, I always see them working hard and handling things promptly when I bring up a concern. Securing a permanent and competent office manager would alleviate much of these negative reviews. They advertise 1.5 bedrooms at $2900 and then they treat you like crap if you need help with anything. They're dishonest and misleading. Many tenants leave before completing their 1 year lease. Lots of hidden fees. Not to mention Mr Brian is the worst customer service we have ever experienced in our apartment hunt. Stay away. read more

Hi all, I have been living at Woodchase Apartments in San Leandro, Ca for almost 2 years, and I must say without a doubt, that I LOVE it here. It's so nice and quiet, something I really appreciate. And on the rare occasion that I have a small issue, all I have to do is walk down to my leasing office and talk to my leasing manager Mr Brain Berry. He is just so kind, friendly, and helpful. He has always addressed any issue in a kind and friendly manner, and making sure it is taken care of in a timely manner. When Brian first came to Woodchase, I went down to the office to meet him, just because I feel like a person should always know who they're dealing with in any type of business. Well, let me tell you, Brain did not disappoint me. His personality was so warm and welcoming. His vibe and personality definitely matches his smile. It is so refreshing, so keep doing what you're doing Brain. It definitely doesn't go unnoticed. If I could give you more stars, I would give you 10 of them. read more

So far ... I love these apartments. It all started once John called and told me i got aporoved after a nasty divorce. This took so much stress off me and greatly appreciated. The friendly welcomes started in garage as i unloaded my 2 kids and peope were coming into garage and soeaking and telling us welcome to our new home. Due to my oarking spot being assigned to my unit, A friendly lady knew what unit we were in because she is our nextdoor Neighbor and immediately offered to grab kids new bedding and take it up and leave on our porch to save us a 2nd trip. In this digital society alot of people prefer to look down at their phone as you approach instead of make eye contact and soeak to a stranger and i have yet to see someone here not smile and say hello since 1st day. Feels like an old school community and welcoming. read more

If I could give negative stars I would! This place is horrible and run by slum lords! First management is horrible Selam Tekie is never in office. Me and my partner tried several times to reach her via phone and by stopping by the office multiple times weeks prior to our lease ending to see what we needed to pay before moving out. She never returned calls and would get the Maintenance men to lie and say she was "In a meeting". I did get her on the phone briefly once but she quickly lied to get off the phone and said " my computer is frozen I'll call you back" needless to say she never did and ignored more phone calls from us. We moved out due to the apartment getting flooded and black mold growing on the walls. During the time of the apartments roof leaking we were left to wet vac our own apartment. Water was coming up through the floors. This happened for weeks and not one person from management accommodated us or even apologized! You'd think management would care but they did not! We were in an apartment with mold and it reeked of Mildew which is clearly a health hazard! We put in several maintenance request and we're told by maintenance that they would "wipe the mold off of the wall so that we didn't have to look at it". After leaving we finally get an itemized list of things we owe and of course we owe THEM money to replace carpet they we did not damage. I'm pretty sure they are removing it due to the mold that's probably under it from absorbing rain for weeks! Don't move to this place unless you are extremely desperate. The appliances are extremely old and look like they are from the early 90's. The numbers on the stove are rubbed off so they add stickers with random numbers that aren't correct so baking just leads to your food being burned. The dishwasher kept leaking even after maintenance "fixed it." There's also dog poop everywhere so it stinks just walking around and gave our pet parasites. We constantly had to give them medication for it. read more

We had a flooding in our apartment during December when the storms hit and had to have the roof replaced, Selam Tekie was super helpful and kind. She made sure we were relocated into the model unit until our place was fixed. She even went out of her way to send an email to my employer explaining why i had to miss work due to the relocation of our place. She was empathetic and helpful and i really appreciated her service. My boyfriend and I have been searching for an apartment the last few weeks. Relocating from the Central Valley to the bay. With the COVID pandemic, it was a hassle for some places to contact back. However, Woodchase was very fast and responsive. I filled out an inquiry form last week, then they called and texted the next day. They were super responsive and offered in person tours with safety (masks and distance). McNeil Jackson was our agent that helped us out. He is a super outgoing guy, knew the property very well, friendly with residents, and showed us 3 different 1 bedroom options. All downstairs units now have wood floors which helped with our decision. The units are fully updated. The place was quiet on a Tuesday afternoon and looked secure. We applied that day and were approved that evening. Talk about FAST and EFFICIENT service. Thanks McNeil for making the experience/process great. We can't wait to move in. read more

Woodchase Apartments - Apartments Near Me - San Leandro, California

We lived at Woodchase for a year and three months and that was about a year too long. The units themselves are nice and updated, but the environment leaves a lot to be desired. We started with a three month lease to see how living there would work for us. The first three months were uneventful so we decided to sign up for a 12 month lease. Almost immediately after we signed the new lease, we began to smell cigarette and marijuana smoke inside our unit. We figured out that the smoke was coming from the downstairs tenant and wafted up through the electrical breaker box in the bathroom. We notified management about this, but their response was there were no rules about smoking within the units. I think management may have contacted the tenant because we noticed it less and less as time went on. However, our downstairs tenant also had a bad habit of watching television with the volume turned up all night long. This caused several sleepless nights for me and my husband. Again, we notified management and they contacted the tenant. The warnings would only work for a few days because the next week, his TV would be on again all night long. Management suggested that we call the Security Company that patrols the property at night, but we never took it that far. In addition to the trouble tenant downstairs, we would occasionally hear loud music and people hanging out in the parking lot late at night. There were also a few car break-ins during our stay at Woodchase. One poor young lady even had her car rims stolen from within the parking garage. Another problem area are the garbage dumpsters. Many tenants would throw their garbage on the floor surrounding the dumpster rather than inside the dumpster. Really, is it that hard to use a little more effort to throw the garbage bag INSIDE the dumpster? Or is it that difficult to walk outside to throw your garbage in the dumpsters when they are outside for collection? There are also a ton of irresponsible dog owners who live in the complex. Dog waste is everywhere inside and outside the complex and parking lot. It's a shame that the tenants of Woodchase aren't more socially responsible and considerate because Woodchase does have the potential for being a decent/nice place to live. read more

I waited to write this review until after I moved out, just in case. ;) I've read through some of the bad reviews on here, and am wondering if I lived in the same place as these people. I cam to Woodchase to seek asylum in a way. Was going through a divorce and was looking for a place to spend a few months until I settled down elsewhere. Or so I thought... I signed a 6 month lease (surprised they offered) and after the first months, I loved it. The staff was always friendly, the noise levels were almost non existent, the cleanliness of the apartment and surrounding areas was impressive most days, and the commodities were just what I needed. So much that I kept extending my lease for a total of over two years. A few things to consider before you move here. Complex: It's snuggled behind San Leandro Boulevard and hidden from direct street view. It's a gated community with secure garage and ample parking. Never saw a lot of activity in the lot, never had any break ins. Ameneties: When I first moved in, I was promised 24hr gym access and free wifi in the common areas. Later to learn the gym closed at 6p and no wifi. Eventually, they built the gym in a way that could remain open until late night hours. Still no 24hr. The pool is ample sized, the jacuzzi is great, and although we were promised a remodeling of the area, it still remains washed out orange. Washer dryer work very well, hardly any issues, soda machine on location. Location: For being San Leandro, the neighborhood is pretty safe. Being that it's so close to E.14th and bus stops, you have to expect there to be some suspicious element, but as long as you're cautious, you should have no problems. The complex is located near a fast food & convenience plaza which makes it easy to walk over and grab coffee, a quick bite or some toiletries, etc. It's only a mile away from downtown and a little over a mile from BART. There are convenient AC transit Rapid bus stops at the corner, and storage across the street. Service: I never had any issues with service. Their on-line service request system made it easy to book something at any time, and it was usually repaired within 24 hours. There are a lot of trees in this complex, so after a few windy storms, the mess would be unbearable. But usually by the time you get home, everything is cleared and like it never happened. I do have to say, if you work from home or sleep in on Wednesdays, plan to be awaken by the sounds of gardening equipment. And it is LOUD. I learned to never try to conduct business or sleep in on Wednesdays. Apartment: the amenities in the units are good. Downside, no in-unit washer dryer. It's expected that things will be old and a little beat up, but some deep cleaning will fix that. If you live in a loft or a unit with one, expect the loft to feel shaky and loud. I wouldn't recommend staying up there if possible. Use it as an office or storage. The stairs in most units are connected on both sides, so you may from time to time, feel the rattle of your neighbors steps. Overall, they are a good community to try out. Sadly, they have raised their rent quite significantly in the last year and a half, and I expect it to go up. So if you're interested, I recommend signing up now and locking in their current rates. I had a tour of Woodchase a year ago. I found it to be very nice, but ended up in a place closer to SF. Now, one year later, I need to move since my unit is being sold. I immediately thought of Woodchase, but was shocked when I saw how much the rent increased!!! I understand rent increases, but the difference is huge, so much that I can't consider living here. Amazing place to live, especially if you need quick access to the BART. The apartment managers are sweet people and helped me get my apartment quickly. The residents are all families or working people and never both each other except to give each other food! I felt very safe here with a security guard at night and the lights that light up the complex. I lived here for a few months, and when I told the manager I was moving, he was quick to help me fill out the correct paperwork with a smile. The only reason I am moving out of here is to go to law school elsewhere. I checked other places in San Leandro and this was the best. Highly recommended. read more

I absolutely love this place! The staff is amazing!! I called and got an appointment within 2 hours! Once I got there I received a warm greeting from Lian, who I might say is AMAZING! Lian took me around the property and was very patient with me as I viewed the different units. She answered all of my questions! I felt safe because she greeted me with her mask and had hand sanitizer available. I needed ideas of furniture and set up in my apartment and without hesitation Lian texted me pictures. Sam is also amazing! So far I have enjoyed my experience! I'm glad I stopped in! read more

Short version: Don't move here. The property is poorly managed and maintained, you will pay far more than the apartment is worth, and they will raise your rent a ridiculous amount after a year. Long version: Buckle up... My wife and I had to move out of SF to find a larger place to accommodate our soon to be born son. We checked out Woodchase as it was close to my family in the East Bay. They showed us an apartment that was several remodelings further along from what we eventually got and said that our unit was currently occupied and would need time to be remodeled before we could move in. The problems started before we moved in. Move in date was wrong by a month, our apartment was barely cleaned, and one of our door keys didn't work. When we signed the lease we were surprised by being made to purchase renter's insurance. The apartment reeked of cigarette smoke had cigarette burns on the counters, upstairs neighbors were incredibly noisy, and our remodel hadn't happened. We aired the apartment out over the several weeks it took us to move in, emailed about the need for another key without response (payed for our own second set,) and our walk through with the management didn't occur until we had been moving things in for several days. Issues seemed to pop up at lease once a month starting with the urine and feces from the dogs owned by our upstairs neighbors. The balcony they had was over our patio allowed the dogs to expel their waste down onto the area right outside our sliding glass doors, onto our newly purchased patio furniture, and also onto one of the guests. It took weeks to get the property managers to take to the folks upstairs since they kept dodging my attempts to speak with them directly. The problem never truly went away and no one from Woodchase ever dealt with the urine stains that stayed on the exterior walls of our apartment up to and including the day we moved out. Our sink stopped up so I wrote an email request and called the maintenance number and left a message. I got a call back from someone who couldn't grasp what I meant when I said, "Our kitchen sink isn't draining, please help." I was told it wasn't an emergency and they would send a plumber tomorrow. Later that night around 9 a maintenance worker showed up and angrily informed me that my neighbor's apartment was flooding and that I failed to get it dealt with. The mailboxes were changed and new keys were handed out. Ours got handed to someone other than my wife and I. The property managers hadn't written down who they had given the key to. We had to request the locks be changed on the mailbox. We received none of our mail for close to 3 weeks. Requests for help went unanswered most of that time. And then Woodchase decided to save water. California is in a drought, water needs to be saved, efforts to do this should be applauded, but... Woodchase ran sprinklers that shot into the parking lot, onto the sidewalks, and straight up into the storm drains. Sometimes after several days of rain. Sometimes during a storm. The fountain in our wing of the complex which only ever ran for a few weeks total while we were there was drained and filled dozens of times. But our shower heads and toilets were wasteful so they had to go. The new ultra low flow toilets that they installed cannot handle human waste. Be prepared to clean your toilet every day. The management had been pestered so many times on this issue that they circulated 2 separate polls on our satisfaction with the new toilets. Nothing was done. Stove caught fire, driers didn't work, we had a flea infestation, there was anti Semitic graffiti above the mail boxes and gang graffiti on the gates. Too much to cover. They raised our rent way too much after a year ( over 10%) so we left and they nickle and dimed us on the return of our deposit. Look elsewhere. read more

The place looks great if your visiting but wait until you have lived here for a few months. We were told there was security here but have yet to see them and there are consistently car break ins. There are several areas around the complex with a strong marijuana smell. The new managers seem to be all about rules with no flexibility. The tenants miss the previous managers because they were more personable. They seemed to care about the tenants. The new people couldn't care less about us. We will not be staying much longer and I have heard this from several other families as well. I don't feel safe here when I walk to my car at night and stopped complaining about broken things in the apartment because I am just wasting my breath. We can't wait to move. I don't recommend this complex for anyone but especially families. read more

This place is a total joke. Crappy walls, decks, appliances, and even lighting. I also want to warn people, when something is said that it'll be done, it isn't. I lived there for a year without a smoke detector. That's kind of important! You also have to walk across the damn complex to do laundry, and more times than not you have to go back because half of the washers and dryers don't work. They have always been extremely helpful when anything occured over the years (simple things like upgrades, etc). I love this place but sad to say the people at tge office gave me run arounds and did not fix my problem. Tenant move in below us who was smoking marijuana and entering our vents goy my famiky sick. Er trips for my kids asthma attack and myself as well. Conplained security, policr and office saif will evict peoole who was smoking marijuana. Its been 5 months and nothing had happen. I .... Can say I'm thankful for this place. My first apartment but not the best experience for a first time renter. Everything was pretty normal and I got what I asked for most of the time. When I first moved in they were remodeling certain units unfortunately mine wasn't the lucky one. However, it became uncomfortable walking past my neighbor and his buddies fumes of Mary Jane. Personally I don't mind but if I'm bringing grams over for dinner one night it's a little bit of an awkward moment and for the price and square ft. your paying it shouldn't be this way. I can say my experience with Sam was pretty good, I appreciate someone that's short and cuts to the chase, showed my around the first time I met him at other properties that they own and gave me the low down on things with out the bs, for that I have the last star. 3 big ones. read more

i currently live at woodchase and its the worst experice of my life.... they seem so polite until you move in and start asking questions about the place they are no help... 1. people here are not kid friendly the person that lives next door to me stated my kids were not a loud to ride there bikes out side due to her trying to get sleep at 2pm. 2. for two days my kids did not have hot water to take a shower with and when we called the manager she stated that we were taking a shower at the wrong time of day but they sent me a notice stating i have to start paying for water? 3. there is mold in my sons window seal every day. i have cleaned it twice and it still comes back the manager stated to wash it down with bleach and soap every day? 4. in my bedroom my window shakes all night so i have to put my shoe boxes in the window to get sleep...uhg? 5. my 6 month lease was finally up and i went in to ask the manager what should i do because i have never rented a apartment before and i was not going to sign another lease.. she stated that all i had to do was pay my rent for may and by may 31 have all my things moved out? and two weeeks later she called me and said because i did not inform her of my move that i had to pay for june.... and that it was not going to be rated at my rent that i had been paying that it was going to be 200 dollars more..... wow what a nice place to stay..... read more
