Decided to try out a new (to us) breakfast place we always pass! Defiantly seems very homey ran and service was friendly. We waited a bit for a hostess to come and show us our table and nice we sat down there was crumbs everywhere on the table, you could tell she quickly wiped the seats and barely the table. No worries nothing a few extra napkins from our server couldn't fix. First let's start with my meal. Ordered 2 eggs, crispy hashbrowns, biscuit and piece of ham. Scrambled Eggs and biscuit was so fluffy and flavorful! Normally scrambled eggs are dry, but not these! Ham was fatty and hubby ate it. Hashbrowns were def crispy but served cold. Weird. I just slathered them in ketchup and all was solved! Oh! And I got a side of gravy and it was pretty good. Now for my husbands cinnamon roll pancakes.... HOLY SMOKES! They were SO FREAKING GOOD! I could never personally order them as they are VERY SWEET, but I sure as heck enjoyed a few bites of the ones he couldn't finish! Would we come back? I'm sure we will since it's close, but definitely don't sleep on those pancakes! read more

We went to go grocery shopping at Winn-Dixie and my husband reminded me of the rule "Never go shopping hungry." He spotted the Wooden Spoon Diner which was odd because I had been to that Winn-Dixie many times and had never noticed that diner before, which was a large building right at the end of the strip mall. There were a lot of cars, and a lot of people streaming in, but he insisted that we at least try to go. We went inside and were told a 5-10 minute wait, which was reasonable. It was less than 5 minutes actually. They have booths and tables and a "socially distanced" room for those who need to be sat apart from others. We felt fine in a booth because they were large. There was a young man going around and sanitizing tables/booths as soon as they were vacated and bussed. Our waitress, Sintra (I'm unsure of the spelling, sorry), was a joy. Completely on the ball for everything. The coffee was good diner coffee, no fuss and strong. They have a decent menu, with a little bit of everything and the food came out fast, hot and fresh. My husband and my mum both ordered omelettes and grits. Both adored the grits, which were very creamy. The omelettes were a huge hit with both of them. Mum had the Greek omelette and hubby had the Meat Lovers; both omelettes were stuffed with delicious fillings. They each gave me a bite of theirs and I had to agree, very delicious. I had a dish called Rick's Combo (2 eggs with choice of meat and French toast). Everything was just the way I like it. Eggs were scrambled with no brown, and nicely soft. I asked for the bacon to be crisp and they delivered it perfect. The French toast was good (it had the standard powdered sugar on it). One thing I really like is that they give you real butter and the choice of half & half for creamer, along with the fancy creamers. The prices were average for similar breakfast places, so it was a good deal. We were pleased with the service and the food and both my mum and hubby expressed a desire to come back and check out the lunch menu very soon. Sounds good to me. read more

My wife and I enjoyed a late breakfast (10:30 a.m.) at the Wooden Spoon Diner located in the Imperial Christina Plaza at 6960 Florida Avenue S, Lakeland, Florida. The restaurant wasn't very busy at this hour and so we were seated right away. Our server Jeannie was attentive and cheerful. I ordered their three-egg omelet with feta cheese and spinach. (This combination isn't on the menu, but they are willing to make a special order.) The omelets come with your choice of home fries, hash browns, grits or seasonal fruit cup and toast or a biscuit. I chose hash browns and a biscuit. The omelet was delicious, and the hash browns were crispy, just as I like them. The biscuit was small but very tasty. My wife ordered the garden omelet that's made with tomatoes, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and American cheese. She chose the seasonal fruit cup and wheat toast as her sides. She was also very pleased with her meal. We like supporting local businesses and the Wooden Spoon is one of our favorites! It is definitely worth the trip, and we will be back, soon! The Imperial Christina Plaza is located at the southernmost end of Lakeland at the intersection of South Florida Avenue and Shepard Road. My Son called and asked us to meet him at the wooden spoon. We did and it is one of the few wonderful places to eat. They are efficient and friendly. Oh then the food was delivered. There was 5 of us and 3 of us got the pork tenderloin. It is as big as a dinner plate. So good. Everything we got was great. The building is really nice. Our server was great. I believe this is our first time stopping in since the changed from Dwayne's. This used to be my kid's favorite restaurant, as they made the best Pb&j. So, we needed to see if that still held up. Inside, everything still pretty much looks the same as before. I think the staff might even be the same. We were seated quickly. Tables are spaced and every other one is blocked off for distancing. Staff are wearing masks, as well. The first thing we noticed on the menu was no pb&j. Cue the sad kid. So, she decided on a pancake. When our server arrived, we asked about the pb&j. She said "Oh, oh it's no big deal! We can make one!" Cue happy kid! Husband got the biscuits and gravy with eggs; very good! I got the black bean burger; SO good!! It's got sweat and sour sauce on it AND pineapple!!! Delicious! And Kid's pb&j? Well, it was just as perfect as she remembered it. Happy to see this place thriving. Not very good today. Asked for eggs over medium. They were barely over easy. Asked for extra crispy bacon. Bacon was tough and cold. Sausage gravy was very thick, almost like mayonnaise with hardly any sausage in it. Not a good show, Spoon!! read more

Have been here 3 times trying it different foods. I enjoyed corn beef hash. The other breakfast items like eggs, bacon, sausage have been decent. We did not like the biscuits and gravy because it had very little sausage in the gravy however the biscuits are pretty good. Would go again but nothing out of the norm for a breakfast spot read more

Had a mediocre eating experience here. Little change in appearance from Dwayne's Diner except the name. The interior appears "dumpy" or run down. We got a waitress interested in being speedy at the table to the point of being anxious or impatient. Friend ordered a pork chop platter, I tried the pork tenderloin sandwich popular in the Midwest. Friend felt her meal was bland and her chop too tough to cut. My tenderloin had the "look" of the pounded chop and large dinner plante size but was pounded so thin you only tasted breading, no meat. Onion rings were good, needed salt. Water glasses not refilled, Bill came timely. Employees not masked. We could've been persuaded to have dessert had we been asked. Just a "meh" experience. If bland diner food is your jam, you'd probably rate it higher. Portions were large. read more

I would love to talk about their food, except we never got a chance to try it. We waited over a half hour with only two couples in front of us. The hostess was to bussie wondering around to ever greet us or take our names down. A waitress finally came by and took down our names and sat the couple ahead of us. After being ignored for another fifteen minutes by the hostess, who would just walk around lost. We decided if the service was this bad, the food could not be much better. Will not be back. Wooden spoon has become my go to breakfast joint. Two things I love about the place the staff is really really helpful and friendly. Second the cooks prepare the food to go as good as if you eat there which I have done both during Covid. I am a very picky breakfast person. I like my eggs over medium well breakfast meat well done and hashbrowns crispy. Anytime I make special requests the only thing I get is a smile and perfectly cooked food. I would comment on the food, but I never got to taste it. We tried to place a to go order. The phone would be answered and then we would be told to "hold on for just a minute". Ten minutes later we are still on hold. I hung up and tried back about 30 minutes later. Same thing happens. I'll never write a review of their food be I will never go there. OMG OMG OMG! My wife went to this diner this morning, 10 minutes after it opened! The waitress was very nice, but then came the food, UGH! 3 couples here, 2 waitresses on duty and the food came out luke warm and cold! My wife told the waitress that the pancakes were cold, she apologized, brought them back to the kitchen and the cook microwaved it for 10 seconds and sent it back to her! OWNER, FIRE THAT LAZY COOK! We went once and have no intention on returning. We thought it would be a nice breakfast place to try but the ceiling tiles and cross carpet was just a turn off. The server was nice but seemed annoyed for even wanting refills on coffee and water ... so we didn't even ask. Good was pretty much room temperature. Not bad tasting just didn't taste fresh. Usually a decent place to eat however the service of late has been poor. Takes forever to get waited on especially on the weekend. Much longer than most other places close by of which we will frequent from now on. Waitresses don't seem to care and are lackadaisical in their duties. Management either doesn't care or is not aware. It turned out to be a huge pleasant surprise! Very nice place indeed, the service was fantastic. I ordered the country eggs Benedict Best I've ever had! My wife ordered traditional breakfast of eggs sausage links n potato's. She told me that hers was great as well. The price was darn good as well. We can't wait to go back! When Dwaynes became the Wooden Spoon we hoped that the place would not change much. We are so glad it didn't. Most of the same folks are there and the food is just as good. This recently opened Southern Diner is in the former Dwayne's Place location in the Winn Dixie Plaza. They have an extensive menu with all the southern breakfast hits. There are 2 other locations; one in Plant City and one in Brandon. Our party of 3 were in for an early lunch around 11:30 and were seated immediately. There was a hiccup with our drinks when I was given a diet Dr. Pepper instead of the regular Dr. Pepper I ordered and an unsweet tea for the hubs instead of the sweet tea he ordered, but with wearing masks it's hard to hear sometimes. We had the pork tenderloin sandwich(huge and hanging off the plate), spaghetti and meatballs, and the Hawaiian Black Bean Burger. The pork tenderloin is amazingly tender, flavored well, crispy crust, and reminded hubs of what he grew up on in Indiana. The spaghetti was a tad bland and I found myself wishing for parmesan and crushed red pepper, BUT the meatballs were obviously made in house, delicious, tender, and I would go back and order the meatball sub. Our son was happy with the black bean burger, also obviously made in house with PLENTY of veggies and very flavorful! We will most certainly be back. read more

Interesting first experience. Upon arrival there was no hostess around. There were other people waiting for a table and it took several minutes for the hostess to show up. It was not busy, but apparently there was a rush before us because they were short on silverware. Food arrived timely, it was okay, nothing special. The gentleman's order beside us was wrong and I noticed it took forever to be corrected. I almost wanted to go back to the kitchen to fix it for him. I lost attention with that after a waitress began yelling at another waitress and arguing as they walked to the kitchen, odd. A couple beside us at their waitress if they were open in the evening and she replied "no we close everyday at 2:30." But the sign says open until 8:30 on Fridays. As we were paying the people that were waiting for a table when we arrived we just being seated, again it wasn't busy.
