    Happy Sunday

We made a quick stop here with family and I've heard sooooo many good things about it. The parking lot of my packed and we made no reservations so had a little wait for a table, all sounds promising. They have a couple of options for food, buffet, blue plate and order a plate. I got the buffet. everything looked really good. I went through the line twice to get on both sides but all in all I wasn't a fan.

I have visited Fred's Market many times. The Meatloaf and Catfish are my favorites. The Corn casserole and Sweet potato is also really good. My Sister and I ordered Iced Tea and the server was very nice and refilled them several times. The server also gave us the options of all you can eat or one plate special. The ambiance was cozy and down home. I will definitely keep coming back.

Our server, Leah, greeted us and asked our drink order. She was such a sweetheart and kept refilling our iced teas. I had ribs, meatloaf, macaroni and cheese and I tried the chicken and dumplings. For dessert, I had banana pudding. Everything was delicious! It was pretty busy, but we were there at 6pm. A great experience!

3 stars because I couldn't get over the extremely runny eggs. For me, eggs are the main course of breakfast and I honestly couldn't. I was hoping they were going to plop a fresh batch of fully cooked eggs. Nope, more runny eggs. I have been to the Fred's in Lakeland, and remember nice fluffy cooked scrambled eggs. Overall, Fred's has got all the essentials eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes every way. I poured gravy on my potatoes and it was quite a delight! Fried catfish could have used some kind of flavor. They also have a small selection of fruits and cereal boxes. Our server was sweet but a little busy. This restaurant is in a small town so I'm not sure if there are ample of options but it's a solid breakfast place.

Finally, finally, finally got the chance to feast my famine at the long, awaited chow down at Fred's Market Restaurant. Yeah......!! If anyone have ever visited Savannah, GA, and had the Mrs. Wilkes Kitchen feast, then ya know this is about the same. Minus the rush for their long line wait list outside. Side from that, I suffered dearly. Really. Really suffered dearly. Thank you for that, and "I'll Be Back."!!

Fred's Market is a solid stop for anyone hungry for a good breakfast. My family visited the Lakeland location on a Sunday morning. It was busy. We were seated at a large table in the back. Quiet, roomy and a great place to eat. This place was bustling with people and staff. A few staff members came around to greet us and explain things. They were super kind and friendly. All the staff we encountered were. If you passed someone working there, they said hello and welcomed you. The food here is simple. Southern staples in a buffet style, all you can eat extravaganza. You either get a blue plate or a regular plate. Blue plates are good for the smaller appetite. You can make one trip to the buffet line and pile on as much as you can. It's only $2 less. The buffet had all the classics. Biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, pancakes, French toast, fried green tomaters and fruit and yogurt options. I did one savory plate and one sweet plate. It covered all the bases and I was satisfied. Everything was tasty but nothing stood out as fantastic. Except for the fried chicken. Oh yes, at Fred's you eat the fried chicken for breakfast, because it's that good. Crispy skin, juicy dark meat. We all had a good time and left full. It was also affordable. I'd come back here again.

Rotisserie chicken, pulled pork, fried green tomato's, mashed potatoes, ribs, corn casserole, Lima beans

The staff works really hard and fast. The food is mediocre buffet style. The ambiance is very casual with an older crowd.

Hours to get free coffee with breakfast?

They serve coffee all day (I believe)

Are all of Fred's Florida restaurants buffet style?

Yes, but you have the option to order off of the menu as well. The breakfast buffet is well worth it and the pork chops, sausage gravy and biscuits are a MUST try!

We also ordered grilled cheese and a cup of Tomato-Vegetable soup($11.99) (they didn't have just Tomato soup today). The chicken tenders (served with 3 tenders) were tasty as were the fries. The onion rings were impressive to look at as they were huge but the breading was overly thick and they were not crisp. They had potential but I don't need to order them again. The grilled cheese was more of a toasted cheese made in a toaster oven rather than a griddle like is expected. We likely won't order this again....unless it's really grilled. The Tomato-Vegetable soup was really tasty and worth getting again. Our Server was Gina and she was really nice and just as attentive as we wanted/needed. The dining room is pretty large with a combination of tables and booths and it is wheelchair accessible. They have a dessert case as you enter the restaurant with a combination of cakes, pies and what looks like a tasty cinnamon roll. We didn't try any desserts but it may be worth another visit just to get dessert. This restaurant is pretty ok with potential to be really good. It's definitely a comfortable place to have a meal.

It was 2:00 p.m. and there was no wait to order and our food arrived fast! My wife ordered her favorite, the Southern Classic Salad, which is 2 citrus grilled chicken tenders on a bed of lettuce with a scoop of house-made guac, sliced egg, bacon, tomatoes, red onion, smoked gouda, cilantro corn, croutons and a citrus vinaigrette dressing. It was delicious as usual and a huge portion! She ended up taking half of it home for later. I went with the 2-piece Perfectly Fried Tenders, medium heat with sides of So Gouda Mac and Bourbon Baked Beans. The chicken pieces were quite large and were perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of heat. The pieces were served on a piece of white bread with a pickle on top! The fried chicken is so good that I could eat here every day! We were both stuffed, so we skipped the Peach Cobbler and Banana pudding this time. It was a beautiful day, so we ate our lunch outside on the patio, entertained by the great 80's music and occasional police siren (since Florida Ave is a busy street). All in all, we had a fantastic time and will be coming back again soon! We both highly recommend Love Bird!

This same issue carried over to the green tomato blt, which was almost impossible to eat bc of bread that was also too thick. The bacon was so overcooked as to be dry sticks that shattered into tiny bits when you tried to eat the sandwich. The fries were allegedly hand cut, but looked & tasted like (cold) seasoned frozen steak fries. The FSKB chicken salad croissant was just a soggy mess. And the eggs Benedict featured "Canadian Bacon", which is a US marketing term for round slices of bacon, not Back Bacon or Peameal Bacon that is actually served in Canada. It was lunchtime and the parking lot was about 3/4 full...a good sign. Prior to entering the front door, I couldn't help but notice numerous license plates from around the country attached to the ceiling of the entry. We were welcomed by a maritime theme, again, along with numerous license plates tacked up in numerous places on the wall. I immediately noticed a few amateur "ham" radio plates. We were greeted by a friendly hostess. The place was bustling with the sounds of many customers chatting and laughing as we were escorted to our table. She presented us with menus and told us our waitress would be there shortly. After a short while we were welcomed by Madison, a lovely, young "bubbly" waitress. She presented us with their complimentary signature biscuits with cinnamon butter and their delicious coleslaw. We had already reviewed the menu and were eager to try their Alligator Nuggets w/horseradish dipping sauce and an order of Fried Calamari. We gave her that and our drink menu. She would be back shortly for our main menu selections. In the meantime, we sampled those excellent biscuits and cinnamon butter and coleslaw. Both...delicious! My wife and I were both there for their catfish, which was recommended by our friends. I got their blackened catfish sandwich and their criss-cut sweet potato fries. My wife got her catfish sandwich southern fried along with the same sweet potato fries I had ordered. Our friends ordered their mahi-mahi with fries and shrimp and scallops linguine with Alfredo sauce. Madison came back shortly with our appetizers. My wife was the only one of our group that hadn't tried alligator before. She was very surprised, commenting that it tasted like chicken. Ha Ha! Both appetizers were excellent. After a short while, the kitchen staff came out with our main menus. Lovely presentations on all of them, and "first bites" were all well-approved! Madison returned a short while later asking how everything was going. We shared our delight with all the meals. Of course, there was no way any of us could possibly have finished our meals, so Madison came back with plenty of "to-go" boxes. It was a very worthwhile experience for us...and our friends who were delighted we had enjoyed our time there. It will be a definite return visit when we come back. We each chose a different fish dish from their lunch menu. Since they are named "catfish" country, I decided to get that. My husband ordered the cod. We chose the fish to be fried -- and they were lightly battered pieces and perfectly cooked. Each basket came with two sides. I got green beans and a baked potato. He had collards and cheesy grits. We both loved our fish choices. The only thing that I didn't care for were the green beans -- more like pole beans and peppery southern style (as in mushy). He thought his collards and grits were wonderful. I think we've found a new favorite place to stop mid-state.
