I was at first hesitant to try The Wooden Spoon because when it first opened in Powerplant Mall, I had recently come from a string of tv-chef-established-restaurants that did not live up to the hype or expected standard at all. So Wooden Spoon was a pleasant surprise for me. I was practically exclaiming in delight, 'Finally! A restaurant that lives up to the standard expected from its celebrity chef owner!' Wooden Spoon is the latest venture of Chef Sandy Daza. It features Filipino food with a homemade twist. I like it 'cause it sticks to tradition except for one or two subtle inventive twists that make the dish infinitely better. Take their kare-kare, this dish is typically made from oxtail. Delicious but a bit too fatty. Chef Daza altered it by using leaner but still extremely tender meat. The homemade bagoong also has a hint of crispness to it that really adds to the dish. They also have this Stuffed Petchay which is similar to traditional laing except the petchay and tinapa are rolled together in a small lumpia-like servings. It's not too spicy and the gata matches so well with plain rice. Service is fast and polite. There's an ambiance to the restaurant that is really casual and a bit homey. You're right beside the mall piano players or jazz bands too so, that kind of entertainment is free for your amusement. The pricing of their meals is reasonable. Not overpriced at all and the tastiness of the food makes it well worth it.

Ever since they first opened up a branch in Katipunan, I've loved Wooden Spoon. It might've been the delicious fried rice, or the tender, flavorful kare-kare-- but it's remained at the top of my Filipino restaurants list, through out the years. While we were walking around Rockwell, looking for a place to eat that would satisfy the palate of my picky dad and my chef sister, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Rockwell also has Wooden Spoon! Of course, we just had to eat there. The servers were nice and very helpful when we wanted to try different dishes. The quality of the food is still the same, still so delicious that it makes my mouth water just thinking about them. The stuffed pechay with its spicy gata (coconut milk) and tinapa (smoked fish) always hits the spot. I could just eat one order of this with the fried rice and be satisfied for the rest of the day. I also love their adobo flakes (but then again, it's not like those aren't easy to make) and their very popular appetizer, the crab pancit.

Stuffed Pechay ( look at my veggie menu pic for description ) AWESOME SAUCE !!!

Always eat and get food from this place when i visit from the USA, and it is ALWAYS an EXCELLENT experience...traditional filipino flavors with a twist. The owner is a well know culinary expert in the field and comes from a family of restauranteurs . My father used to bring me to Au bon Vivant back in the day when he worked for the airlines and was a friend of the family ...so i knew for sure this place knows what they are doing, the owner Sandy was always on television back when I was growing up, watched him a lot. I'm glad he never stopped cooking ! CASH IS ONLY FORM OF PAYMENT ( good biz move if you ask me ). They are confident in what they serve and i don't blame them...and it also helps that there is an ATM right next to its location ;). I WILL ALWAYS COME BACK when i'm in town !!!

Service is very nice, however very slow. We had a big group and they were slow to take our order, slow to get the food out, and the drinks. People who showed up after us got their drinks before us. I like the traditional Filipino food offered here, don't really see that in many commercial food courts. Ambiance is nice, very casual yet fancy. Just the smell of the food makes my mouth water! Yummy!!

Excellent customer service with delicious meals and plenty of options on their menu. This is our second time dining at Locavore but first time at Brixton Street in Estancia location. Customer service at Brixton Street, Estancia is consistent with the BGC location. The staff is also very well versed with food allergies. The staff was great every step of the way from seating, to ordering, to delivering our orders on a timely manner and until the very end. Our party of 11 ordered 2 of everything like to name a few of what we ordered are, Pakbet Ratatouille, Octadobo, Oyster Palabok sa Puti, Tapsilog, Boneless Lechon Belly, Dragonfruit chips and many more. We look forward to dining at Locavore every time we visit Philippines. Locavore both provided delicious food and excellent customer service.

I'd been wanting to try Filipino food, and this place came highly recommended by some locals. The food was incredible. I tried the sizzling sinigang, and it completely surprised me. The flavor was sour, savory, and comforting all at once. I also had the oyster sisig, which was crispy, rich, and perfect with a cold San Miguel beer. Every dish came out hot and well-presented. The restaurant itself has a great vibe!!! lively but not too loud. The staff were really friendly and helpful, especially since I wasn't too familiar with Filipino dishes. They explained what everything was and even suggested a few must-tries. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the Philippines. And I'll definitely come back next time!

The portion was moderate and it can feed 2 people. It was hot and crunchy and the sauce was pretty good. The pinakbet with pork liempo was awesome, please keep in mind that pinakbet in some regions are cooked without the sabaw (sauce). The eggplant was definitely fried. The bitter melon and the kombucha squash were steamed well. The pork was super crunchy!!! Please also note that one order of pinakbet will probably good for 2 people but I can definitely devour it on my own! The kare kare with crispy pork was also good. The sauce was slurry and not too thick. The string beans, banana heart (puso ng saging) and bok choy were steamed and cooked well. They were not soggy but crunchy. Also the eggplant was fried and added with the sauce. When you order kare kare it automatically comes with sautéed shrimp paste. This dish alone will probably feed 4 people. Overall the service was great, we did not wait long for the food, and we were seated right away since we arrived there around 11:45ish. The restaurant was clean and quite cozy. There's one bathroom for both genders. Total of all the meals including 1 sugarcane calamansi juice refill P1745.00 (also includes gratuity charges).

Back then, if you've been living in Manila for most of your life, the words "food" and "court" in the same sentence never really sounded appetizing. Enter Hole in the Wall. I've been here a few times already, but stepping inside its huge hip maze of interiors never ceases to excite me. I'm not sure if it's the thrill of choosing what meal to try next or just the nice aesthetic of literally everything, that excites me more. On my first visit, I made sure to first try the super popular fried chicken from Bad Bird. As a big fan Southern-style fried chicken, I wasn't disappointed. The crispy skin had a yummy seasoning that's new to the palette, very different compared to my other favorites, such as the Chickenjoy from Jollibee and the Pan Fried Chicken from Pancake House. And there's something about their side dishes that just completes the whole meal. The corn on the cob with bonito flakes, sweet and umami flavors melting in your mouth, was to die for. The coleslaw provided a nice acidic break from the saltiness of the chicken. The meal was a fun experience itself. Just the other day, I tried the Pastrami on Rye from Mr. Delicious and it was monstrous--just plain impressive in terms of size. I didn't even attempt to bite on the entire stack, using my fork and knife like a pretentious chick on a first date instead. Each bite off the monster-wich was packed with so many different flavors, though the pastrami still easily emerges as the hero of the dish. And let's not get started on the sweet potato chips. I'm not a big sweet potato-lover, but damn, the portion was more than satisfying. If there's anything I'd like modified, I just wish there was a bit more of the veggie pickles to cut through all the meat and fat. For now, I'll end this review right here. If it isn't yet so obvious, I'll probably be back here in no time to try a different food stall or two.
