I stopped to put $20 in my car before heading back to the city, only to discover they preauthorized $175.00 for my purchase. I called Amex and they said they would look into it, but even mor suspicious is when I called the station and was bold a) there was no manager b) the manager was at the store c) it was AMEX that was holding the charge. Obviously what they do is over authorize your card, get the deposits ASAP and then refund the overcharge, after they have used your money for a week. It's been 4 days and still pending so AmEx is going to flag the charge as fraud, which it is. I spoke to a friend that lives nearby and she said they do it all the time and the only way around it is to pay with cash inside or pay for a specific amount of gas. I vote for never going there again as long as I live because there is NOTHING posted about the 800% over-authorization, Mobil does not have any such policy and AMEX says it's a violation of merchant agreements and are investigating this practice. I wouldn't be so mad if it wasn't the only card I had with me and their crazy overcharge flagged fraud prevention (I never charge more than $50 on this card) and then couldn't pick up my dinner. This is a predatory business practice and you would be better off running out of gas and using roadside assistance than this den of thieves. It is not normal, nor legal.

Twice in the past 3-4 months a staff member has come out with a cheerful attitude to help me with a problem. The new tire air machine was confusing for me and Jalen (maybe Jaylen?) not only showed me how to use it on a brutal frigid day but just began without hesitation to fill all four of my tires himself. You can walk in this gas station and immediately get acknowledged and assisted, always with a smile and positive vibes. Thankfully, I found North Shore Shell as one of the only places open early on a Sunday in the burbs. Honest, affordable, and the kind man working also told me what was wrong with my breaks for free. Finding an honest mechanic that won't charge unnecessary fees is such a breath of fresh air. Coming here was definitely worth the 12 mile drive and I'll be back for whatever repairs I need as they have gained my trust.

Still prompting for an explanation, as I knew that you could purchase and redeem lottery scratch-off tickets, until 2am, he simply screamed that it was closed and to get out. He did finally check her out but was not happy about it. In fact, he mentioned under his breath that you only come in here to get everything free! Yes, we do come in because this is the only location near us, to redeem our promotion earnings, but if they did not want to honor these, they should not be a Circle K Franchise. This is simply unacceptable as nobody should be treated this way, especially as a customer. To make matters worse, I stopped back in this evening 4/28 at 8:30 p.m. to purchase the scratch-off tickets. It was a different clerk, so I asked him what time they stop selling scratch-offs behind the counter. He told me never. You can purchase those 24/7! So, here in lies my point. Absolutely ridiculous. In fact, this one had no line at all during our fill-up. It has 4 islands, with the 3 leftmost having 3 pumps (thus requiring parallel parking if the middle one is the only one open) while the far right only has 2. (22 nozzles in all). Price per gallon was $3.799 for 87, but 93 octane was $5.099 (a 33% markup)...super glad that our car was fine with 87. It's close enough to the Costco warehouse to notice how empty the parking lot felt on a Monday afternoon. This time, though, my wife didn't want to browse (probably because we would have to take it home by plane).
