The food was good home cooking. Nice variety for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The apple pie was yummy with really good crust, which is basically my favorite part. Pretty place with a great deck overlooking the river. The only reason why I didn't rate this place higher was because of the service. I have no idea why, but not once was the staff welcoming; they just seemed like we were keeping them from doing something else. Never came to check on us-dropped the check while serving the meal, and gave barely one word answers. I had to call her over to ask for a piece of warm apple pie. It came out ice cold-since I didn't want to put her out anymore than we had by ordering lunch from her I didn't say anything. I felt pretty uncomfortable throughout the meal. Mom and I went there today for the 11am-2pm lunch special. Choices included fried chicken plus your choice of like 3 sides, or a Reuben sandwich & fries. We were both locked in on the Reuben but then I saw they have BBQ pork nachos with white cheese Ro-tel and jalapenos! It was a hard choice but I knew I was getting BBQ later in the week so I stuck with the Reuben. It was delicious! Rye bread perfectly grilled, homemade thousand island, yummy corned beef, cheese & sauerkraut. I got the perfectly cooked crinkle cut fries (good luck finding those in L.A.) with mine and Mom substituted chips. Lemonade for both of us. Word to the wise, if you want the main special of the day, get there right at 11am and place your dessert order the same time you place your food order because I looked at the time when the server told someone they had run out of fried chicken and it was only 12:23pm. When we ordered dessert to go, they were already out of the peach cobbler so we got strawberry rhubarb pie. Haven't eaten that yet so I can't tell you if it was tasty, but it LOOKS really good! Do not go there expecting anything fancy!!! This is good, solid, down home cooking, which is what you want when you're visiting places like Arkansas. If you don't like fried food or gravy, get over yourself and head to one of the coasts. In addition to the food, go there for the outside tables overlooking the river! It was in the 80s today and we saw geese, ducks and a beaver! Also go across the highway to Mammoth Springs and walk around. I hear there is a small, "sweet" aquarium over by the train station. My husband, in laws and myself had the Friday special 2-catfish. My fish wasn't cooked thoroughly and the sides were cold and didn't have much flavor and the roll was as hard as a rock. Same for the rest of the meals. The waitress was extremely rude and had a attitude, I asked for sprite and she brought sweet tea and when I corrected her she had to comment, "well alright then" and rolled her eyes. This is my favorite restaurant in this town. Staff was very friendly and the view is exceptional. I had a chef salad and my husband had the ribs which were awesome! The bathrooms were very clean. My leftover drink was given to me in a to go container. read more

This place was recommended by friends and we often pass by it on our way to Memphis but because we usually have the dog with us, this was our first opportunity to give it a try. It was a Thursday night, about 6 PM. The place was probably already 3/4 full and the tables turned over pretty quickly. We walked in an waited until someone told us to seat ourselves anywhere. We'd heard the view of the river was especially nice, but they were clearing off all the outside tables when we arrived, so I guess it was either too chilly or they don't serve out on the deck/patio after dark. All the tables near windows were taken, so we sat at a table near the middle of the dining room. The temperature was fine and the noise level was also fine. Rustic décor (the outside looks like a log cabin complete with rustic porch). We were greeted promptly by our friendly waitress who took our drink order (sweet tea and unsweet tea) and brought us menus. She also returned with the drinks promptly and took our order for the fried mushroom appetizer, the 3 piece catfish plate for me (they also offer a five piece and you can request the catfish grilled rather than fried), and for my dining companion the special of the day: hot open face beef. This place is nice, and homey and comfortable. Paper napkins and all the condiments come in packets (sugar, sweet & low, and lemon juice packets on the table). The mushrooms arrives quickly, very hot, with a small container of ranch sauce. They were pretty good. One of my sides also arrived - coleslaw and a couple packs of crackers - though not sure why that didn't come out with the meal. We made it halfway through the appetizer before dinner arrived. Also piping hot and more than enough to eat - they use those oval plates and both meals covered the plates. My companion's meal consisted of a pile of beef and gravy over white bread, mashed potatoes and coleslaw. My meal consisted of the aforementioned coleslaw, three pieces of fried catfish, baked potato (there was a potato choice), three hushpuppies and brown beans. We both agreed the coleslaw was very good and my companion said the open face beef sandwich and potatoes were very good. I found the hushpuppies to be very good. The catfish was cooked just right, but I found it to be a bit bland. It was served with tartar sauce, and I added some lemon juice, but I like it with a little spice - however that is a personal preference - I find the catfish and batter at most places to be bland. It's tough to do a baked potato wrong so no comment there other than the sour cream was also served in a packet. The brown beans however I didn't think should be as bland as they were (add a little mustard or bacon perhaps?) - but perhaps that's the way people around here like them. There was definitely plenty of food and we likely could not have eaten dessert but I was surprised when the waitress brought our check and left it on the table without asking if we wanted dessert or coffee. She did refill our drinks once during dinner (which was all we needed and asked us how our meals were) so they don't hover over you while you eat. So dinner for two with non-alcoholic beverages and an appetizer came to just over $30 plus tip which wasn't too bad for a sit down restaurant, especially given the portions. Atmosphere was nice, though I do wish we'd been able to eat outside. read more

I had the chicken fried steak and egg breakfast. I was a bit disappointed in the steak as it was a just a pre breaded frozen type and not made fresh. Gravy was okay, nothing outstanding. Service was great. Not a place I would visit again read more

This places is pretty good! I really enjoy the hamburger steak with brown gravy, onions, and mushrooms for lunch/dinner, and the western omelette for breakfast. The only complaints I would have is sometimes, the vegetables aren't sautéed enough and are still really crunchy or once, mine were sautéed too long and were actually burned. Feeding the ground hogs and looking out at the river while dining is so much fun. The view is breathtaking, the waitresses are amazing, and the food is great. read more

The view of the Spring river is spectacular if you can get a table close to the windows overlooking the river. Decor (looks like a log cabin)is nice except for the plastic tablecloth and flowers. The staff was not that friendly. Waited a few minutes before we were told to seat ourselves,server took 10 minutes to bring us menus and the place was not busy. The food was not the greatest and took 45 minutes to arrive! My husband and I both had the catfish dinner. You could tell it was frozen and not fresh, baked potato tasted old and reheated. Views and actual restaurant is very nice. Location location. The food is ok. 3 in our party. 1 was 3 piece deep fried catfish. It was plain tasting and needed all the tarter sauce. 2nd was cheese burger. Nothing special. Just a burger. 3rd was pulled pork nachos. Pork was very good. Sauce good. But was a smaller portion than I'm used to seeing. And limited toppings. Chips, pork, little cheesy spicy sauce. (Which was very good) and little bbq sauce. I took a look at the rating others gave to the River Bend Restaurant, three stars, and I had to admit it's a fair assessment. The restaurant itself is log cabin perched on the banks of the Spring River. The view is tremendous. There is outside dining if you wish if you don't mind exposing yourself to second hand cigarette smoke. The food is good, not great, but adequate. From where I live I can either drive 20 miles to Mammoth Spring for breakfast or drive 20 miles to Pocahontas for breakfast. The advantages of going to Mammoth are three fold: the food is better; the gas is cheaper; and I have to drive through a Missouri wet county in case I need to do any "shopping." As with all the eateries within driving distance of where I live (and I mean all) the cooks keep their grills too hot which means eggs are over cooked and dry. Prices at the River Bend are fair and the service is good. Their coffee is not up to par with Micky Dee's but whose is? read more
