The staff we dealt with were all very kind and helpful (Front desk, breakfast staff, maintenance man). The Bad: we were not told that housekeeping was only available for stays of 5 night or longer. At 4 PM on our second day, we were surprised that the room hadn't been cleaned yet so we called the front desk and asked if our garbage could be emptied and for new towels. We were given towels and garbage bags and told to empty the garbage ourselves. The next day, our room again wasn't cleaned so we visited the front desk where we were advised of the no-housekeeping policy for stays less than 5 nights. We asked if just our carpet could be vacuumed, as we have a crawling baby and didn't want her crawling on an unclean carpet. The front desk staff member left the desk and returned with a vacuum, which we then had to bring to our 3rd floor room, vacuum, and return to the desk. I have never experienced this before in an otherwise nice hotel. We certainly didn't expect a deep clean, new bedding or anything of that sort, but when paying $180 per night for a 3 night stay basic services like garbage emptying and vacuuming is expected. This policy really undermines the otherwise great service we experienced.

I recently attended a wedding at the Nakoda Lodge. I couldn't believe how beautiful the location…read morewas. I have been past this area many times, but didn't realize that a large facility was there for events such as this. It's located east of Canmore and is only about an hour drive from downtown Calgary. The buffet dinner was really quite good, compared to some wedding buffets that I've been to! Some of the highlights were the grilled cedar plank salmon and the mediterranean fatoush salad (cucumber, red onion, olives, tomatoes, chick peas and thinly sliced hearts of Romaine in an olive oil and lemon vinaigrette). Where this experience stood apart was with the excellent service that we received. Someone was always around when we needed something, and immediately went above and beyond to make us happy. I was helping decorate the cake in between the ceremony and reception. We had forgotten to take the icing out of the fridge before the ceremony, and I thought we were going to be stuck trying to ice the cake with cold, stiff icing. Instead, the chef jumped in and helped us by heating it in his large industrial sized warmer. Crisis averted!! The staff for the remainder of the evening stopped by each table frequently to see if anything was needed. They did a great job. The room rates weren't cheap but they certainly weren't too outrageous either (~$170 plus tax per night). The rooms were clean and functional, although we didn't spend much time there with all of the wedding festivities that were going on. For guests wanting to save some money (or have a more unique experience), there were also tipis available. Many guests also brought trailers and just camped for the weekend. We had a great time, and I would look forward to attending another wedding at this venue.

Wow! Talk about a face lift…read more The Royal Duke used to be the Willy Pub & Inn... bye bye Willy... Helloooooo Duke! The big reno happened early this year and they've been open since August. First impression is a 10 out of 10. What a beautiful reno. The ownership is brand new as well and quite often you'll see them (Guy & Barry) walking about, serving customers and making sure all is well. My wife went out for dinner last night and seeing that we live in south Calgary, why not head to Okotoks and check out the Royal Duke. The menu is pretty nice - a little bit of everything. We chose the 8oz NY Steak sandwich which did not disappoint. It was a Sunday night so things were quite quiet but I've been in there for lunch as well and it's quite a popular place to be. The service was great - Melissa was our server, very personable and really knowledgable about the different drinks on tap. There's loads of room, a billiards room with two tables, lots of TVs and sports to watch, very bright lighting and a private room with VLTs. Probably what really blows me away about this place is that I can bring my kids who are both under 5 years. Much like the UK where kids can go to the pub with mum & dad, it's the same here. Kids are welcome with parents up to 8:00pm So there you go. Check it out. Great atmosphere, lighting, decor, and very nice food! I'll be back!

All of the staff have been very nice and friendly as well. The prices are about average with bars, without many specials that I've had the opportunity to take advantage of. Good place to go and have some drinks and hopefully I can get back there to try the food soon as it looks good as well!

Nice, clean and well appointed rooms!…read more I have stayed in quite a few Courtyard by Marriott in Canada and I really love the newer Courtyard as the design so much younger and nicer. Front desk staff was friendly and checked in was uneventful. Parking can be tight. Busy and the underground parking space is so small and definitely looking for a space at the outdoor parking area if you are driving a car bigger than mid size. There is a plaza across the street that has a sizable grocery store and some fast food joint in case you need to pick up some supplies.

Check in was quick and efficient at the front desk with a quick run down of where the pool and fitness facilities were. My king room on the second floor was clean and spacious. A nice desk area with lighting, a comfortable chair, coffee machine and mini fridge. There was a sectional with lamp and plugs for all your electronics. A lot of time I feel that hotel rooms are a bit on the dark side but there was plenty of lighting around the room. The only quibble I have about the bathroom is that when you're showering water splashes onto the floor. I guess that's what the bath mat is for. Depending on where I am going to spend time in Calgary I may or may not stay here again, just because it is a bit further from downtown.
