Would totally recommend for a stopover along the drive north. Bathrooms were super clean and the coffee was much appreciated. The coffee wasn't anything fancy but the coffee bar was clean with lots of extras and I loved their pecan coffee. Staff was super friendly. I don't recommend the BBQ. We have stopped at this place several times over the years to try different BBQ items but it's always a disappointment. BBQ is never fresh and not tasty at all. All forms of grocery items available along with fuel. Not hard to discover who came first (Sorry Buccees) but if they were across the street Woodys wins every time. I know most people are used to the other gas station but let me tell you about Woodys. I was like a kid in a candy store. They have natural jams, butters, pickles, and much more made fresh from the farm. I lived everything I bought and it's far better than buying all the other things that are full of preservatives at the store. It's a pretty spacious store and has a deli and bbq place in it. Now the bbq is . I was sad I didn't buy more of it. Now I know though and will be sure next time to capitalize on it. We're usually Shell or Exxon folks so when we stopped in Centerville and stumbled upon something special -- Woody's Smokehouse. What a find! We grabbed a quick brisket sandwich, browsed through their unique merchandise, and admired the rows of sausages and smoked meats. The jerky? Hands down some of the best I've had. The smoker out back sets the perfect atmosphere -- that smell alone is worth the stop. Plenty of parking, clean restrooms, and a welcoming, small-town rustic vibe. Everyone we met was friendly, and it's clear they take pride in what they do. We didn't have much time but we'll definitely be making Woody's a regular stop on future trips to Houston. Stopped through for lunch on our road trip because our friend said this place was a must and I was not disappointed!!! Definitely can see why the parking lots were jammed for both restaurant sides (they have 2 locations on each side of the highway which is genius but we were advised to always go there the northbound side). Love that they have an assortment of jarred items, desserts, meats and cheeses. They have a few boutique items too that are reasonably priced. Lots of cozy seats. Food comes out pretty quickly and fresh. My cheesesteak was oozing with flavor! I loved the crispy edges and the fries are perfectly cooked and coated with seasoning. Baked taters are loaded and pretty big. You order at the counter so there's not really much interaction but the staff all seem thorough and quick. This place is definitely a great eating stop if you're on a trip and they are within the travel or even if they're out a ways, it's still worth it!!! read more

We stopped at this location because we wanted to give the owner a chance since Buccees is a much nicer location. We stopped here and the restrooms were all void of toilet paper. Plus, the preserves are now $14 and the hot honey is $11. That is ridiculous. Then we bought our barbecue and they stared at me when I asked for bread. It's like they have a certain price point you have to get to before you can ask for bread. The real kicker is when the guy tells us there are no jerky samples. He said northbound is owned by the Dad and no samples even though the jerky is $44 a pound. He said to go across the street to the Woody's owned by the Daughter and they do give samples and I can tell you that their restrooms are much nicer. We will not stop at the northbound location again. Giving two stars only because the cashier was young and very nice. I did not catch his name, but he had curly hair and braces, and he was a joy as a cashier, but man, this place has gone downhill from 20 years ago. read more

To be clear, this is specific to the northbound location. The southbound location has always been great. I did not realize that they are separately owned & operated. We passed up the Beaver joint because that place is just overwhelming. We needed gas and wanted a good lunch. We drive up and Woody's is out of gas! So we decide that we will go in to get food and use the restroom and go to the Chevron across the street for gas. We wanted Brisket sandwiches, so we get in the fresh BBQ line. When we get to the counter and order, we are handed 2 premade sandwiches that have been sitting under heat lamps somewhere out of view! Why am I waiting in a fresh BBQ line watching people being served fresh plates to be given premade heat lamp dried out stuff? These sandwiches may have been the worst I have ever had. Dried up buns and dried up meat! The BBQ sauce couldn't even save these. If you are going to have your customers wait in a fresh BBQ line, they should be served a fresh sandwich made to order. For quick to go service, put the heat lamp stuff in an area near the register for grab n go for those wanting that. We were so disappointed and it took extra time having to go to another gas station. I ended up throwing out the rest of the dried out sandwich and eating snacks for lunch. I should mention that the sandwich was $10 too! This was my first visit, and I absolutely loved it! It feels like this place has been around long before Buc-ee's, yet it gives off a similar vibe--which I adore. The chopped beef sandwich was delicious, and my friend tried a variety of barbecue items and raved about all of them. We wanted to try some Texas BBQ one more time before flying out of Houston the next day, so we stopped by here on our way back. They had great reviews, so we really wanted to try a little of everything. I started my tray off with some brisket and some sort of meat wrapped in bacon, I couldn't really tell which was which, but everything is tasty wrapped in bacon. The brisket was solid and I practically inhaled it. I also tried the beans and potato salad. Both were good, but I'd probably stick to just eat all meat if we are ever in the area again. My husband tried a couple sausages and they were delicious too. After eating lunch, we walked around the store and shopped around a bit for souvenirs. My nephews loved the beef jerky that I got them and I still cook with some of the spice blends I picked up. I stopped at the southbound location for a quick lunch. The service at the BBQ counter is great, filling my order for a chopped beef sandwich and a side of beans quickly. I got a drink from the fountain and paid for all at on of their several cashiers. The store is quite large, offering plenty of ready to eat BBQ and deli sandwiches. They have bulk BBQ and meats and many other general store items, too. It is definitely more than just a "gas station". There are several tables available to eat inside, too. We have been going to Woody's for years. But the last few times have been disappointing for the BBQ. We got a pound of brisket and ribs. The brisket was FULL of fat. There is absolutely NO smoke flavor on the brisket and taste like the meat has been boiled. The ribs used to fall off the bone. Not anymore. The rib meat clung to the bone and was not flavorful. It also tasted as if the meat was boiled with no smoke flavor either. I won't be going back for BBQ. Best thing about them...CLEAN bathrooms. read more

Just get gas and keep going. If you go beyond the gas pumps and try to get good food: you were warned. I've had BBQ from every region of Texas and have been to some great places, some awesome places, and some that I just enjoyed. This place had nothing in common with any of those. I like to think that this place was having it's hey day deep in the last century when they first bought the sun bleached plastic meats that are currently collecting dust & webs in their facade. Whenever it was, it was a long time before I showed up. You go thru the grocery store portion of the restaurant to the back side to place your order. Just remember, turn around at the gas station, but if you go thru the doors, head left and head back. It's kind of wonky. I went with the holy trinity (in this spot, I should have referred to it as the unholy trinity). You ask the slicer who rapidly pulls open the display case to carve the meats. The meats that have been under some type of heat lamp for way too long. Then, you grab your sides if you didn't get them at the beginning frig. Finally, you check out which seems to be the bottleneck of the whole enterprise. After getting a long lengthy correction of the differences between "Can I have a coke" versus "May I have a coke" from the cashier, I kinda got why everyone was waiting so long. I hadn't cared about the grammatical difference since high school. Since it appeared MUCH more recent in her life journey, I guess that's why she lectured me the differences. I'll try to end this for you: the brisket wasn't good, the ribs were terrible, the German sausage was interesting in an unpleasant way. The banana pudding tasted like it came out of a tube, but the potato salad was very good (I was looking for something to like) as were the beans. Their chicken is usually good, but surprisingly they were out of it at noon. They pre- slice the brisket, and keep it warm in a steam tray. The flavor is average, and the meat is dry, needs lots of sauce. Ribs are pre-sliced also, ok but not great. Sausage and boudin good to buy at the counter to take home to prepare. The guy behind the counter was polite, but I asked a lady if they had some onions (tray was empty) she was so rude! Told me they were out and didn't attempt to get me any, 5 minutes later the same tray was full!! So I asked a girl at the sandwich counter where they were cutting a bunch of onions for some and she was rude also, acted like she was doing me a big favor. They also charge for a cup for tap water , cheep!!! I think I'll go to the other woodys next time on the other side of i45. read more

Alright this might be a long one. But I rarely do these reviews, so I want To do it with justice. I for the life of me can't remember the name of the young man that worked behind bbq that served me my food. He is short and with a stocky build and wore a bandana. But he is terrific at his job. I have traveled coast to coast due to my job and have stopped at nemours places and they all have the same feel to them. Cheap and fast. But when I stepped into woodys and I was instantly surprised by everything. From the jerky to the BBQ was awesome. The guy with the bandana talked me into buying way more food than I needed for just myself. I normally only spend 20 at places I stop at. Not including gas. I ended up buying around 65 for what he talked me into getting and I'm not even mad about it. It was excellence. Great job WOODYS read more

We had a couple slices of brisket, a couple of ribs, a couple of bacon-wrapped quail and 3 shrimp jalapeño poppers. The WORST BRISKET I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE! I am very surprised this place is rated as high as they are as their brisket is an embarrassment to Texas BBQ. Not only was it flavorless, lacking a smoke ring, cooked on high heat and fast..... IT WAS LITERALLY INEDIBLE as in unsafe to eat! Brisket is not supposed to be cold, crumbly and hard like a cracker with a yellowish tint. Now I sit hours later having to pay for what I thought might be good BBQ. As a native Texan and BBQ enthusiast please save your stomach and taste buds as this visually appealing place is all bark and no bite or should I say NO BARK AND NO BITE. If you're looking for the real deal that's the same concept as this try Praseks in El Campo. We came inside while we were charging at the station in the lot out back and were pleasantly surprised! In fact, we came back a second time while we were in town. The service was super nice even with the place being very busy. It was clean and well kept. We used the restrooms which were pristine. We got snacks and treats. And even some gifts!! The customer service was amazing. The food was lacking flavor. We had the ribs, sliced brisket, brisket sandwich and pinto beans and all of it really didn't taste like smoked meat or BBQ. The BBQ sauce was more of a bitter bbq flavor than what I would prefer. They have lots to pick from but after tasting the food we decided against the jerky and fudge. I stop by around 12 I believe. I was standing in line getting my beans and a young kid with a bucket told the guy serving the bbq that he was filling pickles. And the guy said something about don't forget to get rid of empty buckets. And a girl in front of me loudly said that she just told him that and he needs to mind is own f***** business. That's just not right.. the guy kept his cool and was still respectful. But that just rubbed me the wrong way. if things like that are just allowed to happen.
