Stated on here that business closed at 6pm. I drive out of my way to try this spot and when I arrived at 4:50, it was closed already.

Don't let the looks of the place scare you off. It's clean and the owner is always there cutting meat. I've been going to Larry's for some time. His brisket is always good as is his potato salad. He doesn't make the sausage but it's good as are the pork ribs. read more

Don't be fooled by the appearance of this restaurant. I was driving from Dallas to Houston when I found this place on yelps and I called to make sure they were open. From the way the lady answered the phone.. I was impressed with her welcome to visit the restaurant. It is a tiny, small, micro restaurant that sits maybe 20 people max. There is also space outside for gatherings and fun. Let's talk food now. The ribs, oh my Lord Jesus.... As tender and the best brisket you ever ate.... Just perfect smoked flavor yet so juice and tender. The brisket was impeccable ... So good, the potato salad, the beans... Hummmmm. On our way to Dallas we started getting hungry and I asked my daughter to Yelp places to eat in Madisonville and this place popped up! After reading the reviews I said to the crew we have to try this place out! Off the freeway by about 7 minutes or so this place is all as described. Nothing fancy but seemingly owned by a nice family who doled up some pretty decent BBQ! Now what struck me was how tasty the potato salad was. I had passed through Madisonville on my last trip to Dallas four years ago, and was searching for the exact place we stopped at in this city, knowing it was a BBQ shack a little bit off the beaten path. Fortunately, as soon as I walked in, I knew this was it! When I say shack, I really mean it - in the bathrooms alone, the clock doesn't work, the cupboard is exposed, the tile is cracked, one can see through the floor, and on the menu near the drive-thru every third letter is missing. But according to the Law of Texas BBQ, the quality of the furnishings is inversely proportional to the quality of the BBQ. And I am proud to say the brisket meal is very good, the sauce just sweet enough to coat the meat and the meat itself pretty tender. However, the sides are absolutely amazing, one of the only American potato salads I will eat as well as some smoky beans. The hospitality is very simple and rough-spun but you do feel like you're at home in what's basically a trailer. I got suggested to try a rib as well and it was a bit chewy but had tons of smoke flavor, and perhaps another time I will try those in a meal as well. Larry's is not the easiest place to find, even harder to live in, but the locals are friendly, the food is very solid and reasonably priced, and it's the only place I would eat at in transit through this town! read more

Rib meat just falls off the bone and the potato salad has a sweetness to it that works well with the sauces. The restaurant is small and reminds me of an old country BBQ joint. Clean but it is in an old trailer so if you are a snob - you might not be able to handle it so choose take-out so you don't miss-out . They have take out through the drive-thru window and it had a four car rotating line the entire time we were there. Very fast and extremely friendly service. The boyfriend and I came across Larry's completely by chance while driving between Houston and Dallas. I'm so glad that we did! He had the Poboy baked potato. It was the biggest baked potato I've ever seen covered in chopped brisket and links and sour cream and butter. And maybe more deliciousness. I'm not entirely sure of all the ingredients. I only know that I kept stealing bites of it during our meal, and secretly finished off the leftovers that the evening. I had the 2-meat plate with brisket and links. The beans that came with it were possibly the best I've ever had. The brisket and links (same as what the bf had on his potato) were delicious. On top of the fantastic food the atmosphere was very friendly. Service was excellent. The gentleman holding down the fort even went rummaging through the back to try and find my bf an extra-large "Larry's" t-shirt. Alas, no extra larges in stock. Another reason to return! Larry's isn't fancy (small restaurant, drive-thru window, plastic utensils) but don't let that dissuade you. Try the food here if you get a chance. This place hey pretty good brisket but you would think if you own a barbecue place you would know how to sliced brisket. The brisket was super tender but somewhat chewy because he sliced it with the grain instead of against the grain. Also I ordered a rib sandwich and that was the worst sandwich I ever ate in my life the ribs was Burnt there was absolutely no meat on the ribs at all and it tasted like lighter fluid. Okay, I must admit. When I pulled up to the restaurant, I was hesitant to enter. I actually opened my Yelp app and reconsidered. Then, I decided to enter. Hear me out, there was only 1 car besides my car in the parking lot. I was passing through alone. The outside didn't feel very welcoming or safe. I entered and met Larry. He was so nice! He has the biggest smile and seems to have a warm heart. I asked Larry what he'd recommend for a family of three. He then gave me some samples to try. They were all delicious. I also tried his potato salad. My gosh, that is soooo freaking good. I ordered half a pound of all his meat, except the sausage. My family isn't into sausages as much. The smokiness of the meat is amazing. Larry said he uses oak. I can certainly taste and smell that! He has 1 homemade bbq sauce which is good but I wish it is a bit thicker though my parents loved it. Larry is genuine and nice. Plus, his food is great! Give Larry a try. I ate lunch here yesterday, and was pleasantly surprised to learn that it had pretty decent BBQ ! This establishment is inside a tiny metal bldg on the side of the road passing through Madisonville. I had tried stopping here once before when passing through town, but they must have been closed that day. It has a small, rocky drive thru lane that wraps around the right side of the building, and almost no parking, lol. There is inside seating at about six booths and one table next to the front door. I greeted the lady in the ordering window warmly & with a big smile, that was responded to with a blank stare on her part. After placing my order for a rib plate, I sat down and asked the two oil roughnecks at the next table how they liked their meals. They both shrugged and said "Not bad" and "Pretty decent", and one added "Pretty reasonable pricing too". He was correct, because the prices here were indeed a little less than I had expected. All of the "Plates" come with potato salad and beans for sides. The beans here were the red, "ranch" style beans that I prefer to the typical pinto's everyone else serves. These beans were served hot, lightly seasoned & delicious ! The potato salad tasted fresh, cold & refreshing even though kind of commercial. My order was served in a styrofoam "to go" box, along with sliced white bread, onions & pickles. I got about six big, spareribs, all covered in a very thin, runny sauce. I actually liked the sauce, although my preference leans towards thicker & sweeter - this sauce was seasoned nicely without the "heat", leaning more towards adding flavor than burning tastebuds ! The ribs were medium tender, with the bark just a bit too dried out for me. The ribs had quite a bit of fat on them, and a couple of them were overly dry. STILL, the meat on the others parted nicely from the bone without a lot of tugging & chewing involved. Overall, a decent BBQ lunch at a reasonable price. Nothing fancy here, plastic forks & knives,& bottled soft drinks, etc. - but the other employees were attentive and asked if they could get me anything else.
