It's the best in town! Don't let the appearance throw you off. The quality is in the product. And the people are great. We've been coming here for years and it's consistently great!

Don't be fooled by the appearance of this restaurant. I was driving from Dallas to Houston when I found this place on yelps and I called to make sure they were open. From the way the lady answered the phone.. I was impressed with her welcome to visit the restaurant. It is a tiny, small, micro restaurant that sits maybe 20 people max. There is also space outside for gatherings and fun. Let's talk food now. The ribs, oh my Lord Jesus.... As tender and the best brisket you ever ate.... Just perfect smoked flavor yet so juice and tender. The brisket was impeccable ... So good, the potato salad, the beans... Hummmmm. I have eaten fro South American to North American, Asian to Indian BBQ and nothing comes close to this Texas Style. I highly recommend this place over any other bbq place in town.

On our way to Dallas we started getting hungry and I asked my daughter to Yelp places to eat in Madisonville and this place popped up! After reading the reviews I said to the crew we have to try this place out! Off the freeway by about 7 minutes or so this place is all as described. Nothing fancy but seemingly owned by a nice family who doled up some pretty decent BBQ! Now what struck me was how tasty the potato salad was. Not sure what it is but it has a sweet unique taste about it. Combined with the sausage and chicken and beans it made for a really nice lunch! If you're ever passing through check it out! Nice friendly folks who serve up a pretty good BBQ!

Amazing BBQ that hits the spot! Super friendly workers (: we ordered the beef baked potato and the poboy sandwich (with potato salad and beans). Great food for the price. Don't pass this place up!

    Great food!

It's a food truck type of thing without any sit down bench or restroom. The rib was undercooked and hard to bite.

Stated on here that business closed at 6pm. I drive out of my way to try this spot and when I arrived at 4:50, it was closed already.

I was the only speck of pepper in a room full of salt. With all eyes on me, I gave a wave, some folks smiled back and understood what i was doing others weren't quite sure what to make of it. The vibe is old-school texas dining. It was mofos in there with actual spurs on their boots. Clean, no-frills, and straightforward. Concrete floors, a mix of mismatched chairs in earth tones with the occasional pop of red. You seat yourself, and service is quick. my server showed up almost immediately with a laminated 8.5x11 menu featuring a tight lineup of Americana comfort food. I went with the chicken fried steak, with Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes on the side. The Brussels sprouts were split and grilled, simply done with a bit of butter and salt--nothing fancy, but solid. The mashed potatoes? A perfect base for the white gravy, which was the standout on the plate. The chicken fried steak itself had well-seasoned breading, but I wish the meat had been more tender. That said, the gravy was so good it honestly deserves to be bottled and sold at H-E-B. Because when you have already committed to overeating why stop, i tried the peach cobbler dessert. I should have stopped, this was terrible, it looked like someone dumped a can of peaches in syrup over raw dough...it tasted just the same. Such a let down with everything else being at the very least good.

We saw some great options ( Truth, Triple J, Killen's, and Brisket & Rice were all in the running, and we didn't try any of those so can't say on them). This was a thought out choice and I was super excited to try them! Being a family run operation was really awesome to me as well. First the good to great: the staff was super nice and helpful. The brisket was ah-mazing. Not too Smokey but cooked very tender and delicious! The barbecue sauce was on point. Sauces tend to range from too thin to too thick, too sweet to too spicy but Bar A's hit the bulls eye! Not too thin, not too sweet...I really enjoyed the brisket! Walking up, the smells were incredible! A nice outdoor spot to eat (it was a very mild day and just beautiful out..but I digress). Also, the Mac and Cheese...oh my!! Some of the best I've ever had! The downside: We drove an hour and a half especially to eat here...it was our primary reason for heading up to Montgomery! Getting there around 3pm, you would figure is a sweet spot for a restaurant open from like 11-6 on a Friday. When we went to order as we're trying to figure out the plate we want, you know, 2 meats or 3 meats ...sides, yum, as you're drooling, we were going for the TRINITY Plate. Brisket, rib and sausage...a nice cross section. Nope, we can't do a TRINITY. we only have brisket and turkey left. I know a lot of people love turkey. I'm not one of them and my heart was set on Beef. So now we're on a 1 meat and two sides track I guess. Ok, can we do brisket on the one meat? "Sure I can do that" was the cheery reply. So we got two plates brisket, and I asked could you make that moist cut brisket (my favorite, while my wife always prefers the lean). "Nope, sorry, we're all out of moist brisket". Ok, so one plate with cheesy potato casserole (doesn't that just sound amazing?) and Mac & cheese and one plate With cheesy potato casserole and pinto beans, that way we can get more great tastes and share, right? Oh, and bread, pickles, onions and jalapeños. (The bread is Martins and is always amazing if you know what I'm talking about...I think it's potato roll bread?). Got our plates and start to pay...two $20 plates and no drinks, just water. Over $50! Hmmm, well, the one meat tray with brisket has a $4 up charge. Hmmm. Sat down and got to chowing down! Here's where disappointment sets in. As I said, brisket and sauce was on point. The onions are maybe slightly pickled, not sure, but also very good. The meat, was 3 slices of brisket...4 would have been a sweet spot but eh, 3. The sides. Cheesy potato casserole had the texture of rice...I kept thinking it was rice as I ate it. It had some spice to it but very little flavor. Very disappointing. Mac & cheese--ah-mazing! Pinto beans were like a salt-a-holics take on ranch style beans. Not good. Almost not edible. But I was hungry. I put some sauce on the potato casserole and made it taste ok...still couldn't get Over the rice texture (I'm not saying it had rice, but just had the texture of a rice pilaf ). Two pieces of great bread rounded it out! So overall, disappointed that there wasn't more to choose (ribs, moist brisket, sausage) and I get it, They make so much and sell out then that's good business for them. To the customer who drove and hour and a half to eat there, not so good business. The sides were 1 for 3 in the good to great category and worst of all, after spending $50+ on lunch for 2, I was still hungry. I wouldn't have expected that for sure. I couldn't decide between 3 or 4 star but my missing stars shake out like this: 1 went because of availability and then ultimately being up charged for what was left. And 1 went for disappointing 2 out of 3 sides and portion size/value. Sorry, we didn't take any photos of the food.

First, the service was excellent, I believe our server was named Presley. Very kind, always checking on us and keeping our water and tea full. On the buffet, my dad enjoyed the salad he had, but was surprised at the little variety offered that day. He said last time he was there with my brother there was more to choose from. He then got the fried chicken, which was greasy and barely any chicken on the thigh. I tried to find a drumstick but it was just breasts, thighs and a few wings. He did like the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. As for the fried okra, you have to eat it fresh. It is sitting under a heat lamp just makes it soggy and slimy. I ordered 4 vegetables a la carte which came out to be as much as the all you can eat buffet. First, their onion rings are OUTSTANDING! So is their homemade ranch. What was disappointing was the green beans, they definitely came out of a can and were heated. At $3.99 I expected fresh. There may have been a small piece of onion in it. Not sure if that was how it was cooked or if it fell in from another dish. The black-eyed peas were tasty. I also had a cup of the chicken corn chowder which was good. However, there was pieces of cubed chicken in it which also made me think that it was a prepackaged soup and not homemade. My dad got the coconut cream pie, which tasted good, but could have used more coconut then just on the top. He wanted bread pudding or peach cobbler, however at the time of day we were there, they had been picked over way too much, not leaving much for anyone else to enjoy. I did like the selections in the gift shop and purchased a tea towel before we left. I always like to try a place 3 times so I may stop in and try something else. Again, great customer service.
