30 years ago I found this location when I had moved to the area. Growing up I remember there being a similar, if not a second location of Woofies being near Clayton and 141. I was very happy though to find all beef hot dogs and those wonderful French fries with the seasoned salt. Only living close for about 7 years it became difficult to make the trek for lunch. I now have a client that I do business with that is very close to Woofies. Now getting my hot dog fix is much easier! Everything is good, but I'm partial to the Fire Dog with mustard, pickles, onions, and sport peppers. Pair that with an order of fries and a drink and it is a great lunch. On nice days they have a covered area with tables so you can enjoy you meal outside. It useful when they are busy, as the dining room is small. read more

Man, I've been coming here for the better part of 40 years and the older I get, the more nostalgic this place gets for me. To the uninitiated, this place may not seem all that impressive but don't let the mustard yellow fool you. I think I'll just cut to the chase on this one - I really like the old-fashioned atmosphere in this place (the building, that is), but what I really wish they'd do is shed their old-fashioned ways by allowing credit cards and not charging a fee for using a debit card. This is 2016 (at the time of this review), people are using less cash these days. Sure, I'll spend close to $15 for lunch and dinner here. That said, the food is great and the service was fine. Their Woofie and Coney dogs are great. I also like that they serve french fries, kind of like Steak 'n Shakes and Chuck-a-Burgers. Its as greasy and salty as it gets! There's a few other menu items I'd try in the future. What really took me back in time was looking at all the autographed pictures of local STL media personalities from past to present. I found myself saying, "Hey I remember that guy/girl...". They also have humorous hot dog-related pictures as well. I was just there minutes ago, I asked for a double with no special sauce or pickles and with lettuce. I went over the order twice with the woman working the register. I get home with my burger only to find pickles, special sauce and no lettuce. How can you go over the order twice without anyone else in line. Then still proceed to mess up the order. The interior is rundown and dirty and they can't even put candy in their machine. I've come occasionally for years and they've never changed the interior or seemed to clean it. Why has no one told me about woofies?!! Come on people y'all left me to stumble upon this place after a year and half of living in St. Louis?! Anywayzzz....this little hotdog hut is freaking amazing. All their dogs are 100% beef and made to order. When you bite into it the hotdog is perfectly snappy and the toppings tastes super fresh. I love fresh onions on my hotdog and I'm not usually a raw tomatoes fan but I didn't even mind it on my Chicago dog. I was in town for work and decided to look on yelp for some lunch. I found Woofies and decided to give it a try. I ordered a woofie dog with grilled onions and melted cheese and mustard and ketchup, and also an order of french fries. The hot dog was really good, although next time i will order the raw onions and sliced cheese. The ine thing i did not like was that it was drenched in mustard and ketchup, I did not want that much so i had to scrape some off. The french fries were really good and crispy. I will be back next time I am in town to try another one. I do recommend this place. read more

Very good food. You wouldn't really expect much from hot dogs, but really, the variety of dogs provided stood out. I had the bacon and brown sugar dog (1/4 lb dog wrapped in bacon and deep fried) and it was excellent. Would definitely return. Also, although the place is small, there are two large TVs over the bar and they had a good variety of beers. That means with teeth that are secure enough to bite into a well cooked snappy yet juicy Vienna beef hot dog. I finally made it to Woofies, the people's hot dog stand (as recently depicted in the evening news as a place where to find out what the real peoples from the street thought about the current economic crisis in the face of upcoming November elections..did anyone else catch that?) and ordered the Nathan's New York style Woofie. I got this mostly because I LOVE sauerkraut and mustard on my wieners, and this was one of the best dogs I've eaten! I'm totes going back to try the other varieties of Woofies, which are conveniently described on little individual menus posted to the carnival ride-esque inner walls of the Woofie hut. And, while the drive thru is awesome, unless you are a regular, you have to promise us all that you will go inside to order and eat your Woofie dog or on a nice day outside on the patio. Woofie's...well, it simply is. The place is an institution. They make hotdogs, and burgers, but mostly hotdogs. They're simple, they're elegant, and they're delicious. Their fries are always abundant and served deliciously hot, with JUST the right amount of seasoning salt. The food is always piping hot, drinks always cold. They know exactly what they do, and they do it brilliantly well. Pop by if you're in the area, just make sure you get there before 7:30. Steamed poppy seeded bun had a deep pocket that allows for a full ladle of chili to cover the premium weenie completely. Meaty paprika infused chili was thick and wasn't nearly as messy to eat as I had thought. Onions are cold and crisp and generously applied. Service was agreeable and prompt. So far all of the out-of-town folks I have taken there have enjoyed it. The flavors just can't be matched by a QT dog or and other local hotdog joint. We have been customers of Woofies for over 25 years. The quality of product and services especially have definitely deteriorated. Waited in the drive thru lane for 25 minutes and most of the order was wrong. Wrong sandwich, wrong size drink and under cooked fries. We ordered 3 Big Daddies with everything on it and got 3 with only mustard. If I wanted a plain hot dog I could have stayed home and made my own. We drive over 20 miles for the Chicago relish, tomatoes, peppers, onions etc. Although they offered to make them up again with everything on it, we did not have the time to wait another 25 minutes. Too bad. It was our go to place for a good hotdog. There are a couple of new places in St. Charles that advertise Chicago dogs. Guess we will have a new go to place....and closer! read more

Always cool to stop by on my trips back home and get a cheese dog and cheese fries from there. The food is worth waiting for. Depending on how busy they are, you may have to wait a bit but the food speaks for itself. I usually get two cheese dogs (only ketchup- fussy eater) and cheese fries. I tried their Kathy dog once (hot dog, cheese and bacon) and that was very good. Just a word of warning-- bring cash, they round up your purchase on a debit card and add a service fee. As soon as the Big Herm order was confirmed, a long and slender meat tube was deftly transported from the fridge to the hot dog hot tub just behind the counter and nearly under the elbow of the friendly cashier. A Big Herm is a 1/3 pound Vienna beef wonder that, when presented, lands in two steamy warm poppy seed buns and is topped with all the Chicago style accoutrements (neon green relish, mustard, chopped onion, pickle wedge and sport peppers). It's basically 2 Chicago dogs connected by a meat bridge. It is not for the amateur. I typically get the woofie dog (see above description and divide by 2). The Big Herm is delicious and double the pleasure. My youngest son devoured the Herm and the other carefully dissected a Magnificent chili dog with his teeth, being the noble carnivore he is. This delightful puppy dog also rests in the aforementioned poppy seed bun but is then gilded with a velvety yet finely chunked chili, a consistency of hot lava about to cool. Top that with cheese and onions and you'll wish you face was covered with seeds and mistaken for a bun. Woofies. A local and likely national treasure. The staff are always quick and attentive, the wondrous work they secretly do hidden behind these mysterious walls is covert and magical. In one window you order, another you receive. Good hot dogs, good Gyros, great fries. I like that they have hot sauce out and they never skimp on the sport peppers. Its kinda dirty and you had better bring cash, if you don't have cash they have a strange policy of having you use your ATM card and pin for a fee of around a buck fifty. But you end up getting change back because they round up to the next whole $10. A $8 hot dog ends up being 9.50 (ish) and then they charge your card $10 so you would get 50 cents back. If you're in the mood for a proper dog you'd be hard pressed to find better. Prices are steep for what it is. I like it enough to keep coming back. read more
