I bought a pair of sandals at the Woolly and i will definitely be returning for my winter boots this fall. The staff really took care of me and were very well informed about the shoes. I initially had my mind set on a particular pair, but after speaking with the kind woman who was helping me she made me realize that they would not be good for my wide fred Flintstone feet, lol. I had a great experience at Woolly Mammoth. I went their twice in one week to look at shoes. The staff was very helpful, patient. It was really helpful to have someone help me find the right fit as opposed to online ordering when you try to figure out fit on your own. They have a much bigger selection than it might first appear. When I slowed down to really see how many different types of shoes they carried I was impressed with the selection. I appreciate having this box store to look at, try on, and purchase shoes. read more

Lovely experience here today, and left with some ankle boots which will be very useful, given they are also waterproof! The 2 sisters who own the store were very attentive as I prowled the store picking up shoes I wanted to try. They checked stock (and I know the beginning of the year isn't a great time for lots of inventory!) only to return not having the ones I asked for, in my size. However, they did bring out the ones I ended up buying to see if they might work. Wasn't exactly what I was after, but had some other features I hadn't considered AND they were on sale. They had some funny marks on the toes (scuffed?), and they looked more closely and immediately offered to treat them with leather conditioner and polish to see if that removed the marks. It did, and they offered me a bit more discount for the trouble, which was great! Told my sister about the service, so now she's going over to check them out! In business 50 years this year, starting with a leather shop (their dad!) in 1970....cool tidbit. read more

I bought a pair of Birkenstock yesterday. I walked back with these shoes, but the Birkenstock did not suit my feet. I tried to return the shoes or change the size and they said that I can't return it because I walked out the store, and that is the final sale. This sounds so ridiculous. If I do not try those shoes outside, how do I know it is not fit? The receipt says you can return it within 30 days. That's a lie. Do not ever go there. It is absolutely the worst shoe store I have ever been to. read more

I have been shopping at the Walking Company for many years (15+) and have probably spent $2000 there over the years, but their service, return policy and number of brands they carry have all declined, so I came to Woolly Mammoth in search of a better shopping experience and better shoes. Now if you are shopping primarily for price and style, this is not the place; the Walking Company has the best selection of Danskos and Abeos that I have seen. However, Woolly Mammoth has a number of high-end comfort-shoe brands that I could find nowhere else in Seattle. It is a small family-owned shop with friendly, knowledgeable sales people. When I have gone to the Walking Company, they put me on their arch-sizing machine and tell me what I need. This may work for some customers, but it is never correct for me. Also, I find that the quality and comfort of their semi-custom orthotics/insoles is not as good as it was in the past. At Woolly Mammoth, they didn't put me on any kind of machine, but the salesperson listened to my description of my particular foot concerns and made specific footwear recommendations. She even guessed correctly as to why Danskos did not work well for me despite their generally good arch support. Since the shop is small, the style and color selection is limited, but they have shoes that are nearly impossible to find elsewhere, and are willing to do custom orders. Their return policy sounded very fair for a small family-owned shop, but I will post my experience regarding returns when I have experienced that. For the moment, I *love* my new Chaco boots, and I can't imagine returning them. In fact, I may even order the same boot in a different color. read more

I'll start this review by stating I've never actually bought a pair of shoes here, since I'm incredibly hard to fit (small foot, high arch, wide in toes, narrow in heel). I don't buy shoes at most other places, either. But the salespeople here are very patient and have brought out many shoes so I could see how they fit. For that, I'm very grateful. If I do find a fitting pair here, I'll definitely get them, even if pricey. Good brands. Thanks, guys. read more

came day after halloween. employees were non obtrusive and seemed genuinely caring, in the non-capitalist / consumerist-reigns-supreme sorta way. totes not pushy, and felt very "humyn" if that makes any sense. selection of comfort shoes for both womyn and men was pretty decent too. glad my friend recommended them. if I'm ever in seatlle again, would go back. thanks for my waterproof boots, guys. read more
