A Thanksgiving weekend jaunt to eastern Connecticut to see friends (and my dog) meant a couple visits to WOW to bust a sweat. Day passes run $18 + tax. Some notes about the place: - A large number of treadmills and ellipticals, and a decent number of recumbent and normal bikes. - Locker rooms were clean, though a bit small. - Three racquetball/walleyball courts. - A seemingly unending array of weight equipment - and meathead lifters (some of whom were not so bad to look at - at all) - Stretching area is too small. - Foaming soap in the showers was just weird. Lemme create my own lather, yo. And install a towel hook for shower users. You'll see a wide variety of clients here - old to young, fit to flabby, male and female. There's a sports performance facility attached to this place, but is for members of that facility only. It's looks crazy cool, though, I wanted to bust through the glass just so I could streak across the astroturf. Staff is fairly nice. There's a smoothie/juice bar at the front desk, too. Work Out World - Main cardio area - Gyms Near Me - Waterford, Connecticut

This place I will also rate 4 stars. It has great equipment and a large dumbbell are, also it has a great cardio area. I think it could be a little cleaner and the hours could be better. Believe me I am not a neat freak, but I feel the club is a little outdated and some of the equipment could be better. Not a bad place, but again nothing like a newer Golds gym out west. For $10-$20 not a bad deal at all. I guess I am just hoping for a golds! I will not that Alex the manager is extremely rude, and I don't even like talking with him. Maybe he is not a super rude person, but heel comes scores very arrogant and unwelcoming. I would recommend the owners have a talking to him about his poor attitude. But you can't have it all so I'll take what I can get for a local gym, it could be worse. I'm giving this place 4 stars because it has a lot of equipment and good bathrooms. Again the hours could be better and updating would be nice, not just a new paint. read more

This gym was bought out by a company called renegade. Dont bother signin up for this gym. They say they pride themself with great customer service. Thats just complete bull crap. They trapped me wit a membership renewal that i didnt ask for. Then when they got bought out they made it difficult just to cancel the membership. This is year 2018 and they still want you to write a letter to why you are cancelling your membership and send it in to coorporate via certified mail. This place is small and full of senior citizens taking up space. They recently remodeled. But you cant polish shit into diamond. Bunch of thieves. No wonder they call themselves "Renegade" read more

This gym is not very well run. Classes are sparse and repetitive....what I mean is that they do not have enough variety in the evening. The women's locker room is never clean and there is mildew on the shower curtains. The front desk is not very knowledgeable or friendly. When I called and asked if a class had been cancelled, the guy at the front desk said "I don't know...the managers never tell us anything..." Recently, there were a lot of auto thefts in the upper parking lot and when I spoke to the managers, they said "well....people shouldn't leave stuff in their cars...." Really? That is not solving the problem. Lastly, the personal trainers at the gym are not into their clients...they spend more time preening in the mirror and texting. You are much better off going to another gym. Don't waste your money or time here. read more

In terms of an actual gym facility, Work Out World is pretty much standard in that it's reasonably clean, typically has open machines during busy times, and has average staff members. My complaint with them arises in regards to their contract/billing policy and the fact that they illegally forged the date on my contract (without my knowledge - until now). Here's a quick synopsis of my experience with WOW Work Out World over the past 2 years: -October 2010 - signed a 2-year contract with them, with payments starting 11/1/10 (last payment would be 10/1/12). -October 2010-September 2012 - was a member of the gym, paid monthly membership dues. -September 2012 - submitted my official cancellation letter via mail with the contracted 30 days notice. -October 2012 - was charged what I thought (and per my contract terms) would be my last monthly payment. -November 2012 - received an additional monthly charge. I tried to call the gym 3 times to speak with the manager on duty, assuming that there may have simply been an error; however, I did not receive any return phone calls. As I was not sure what else to do, I disputed the charge with my Credit Card company. -December 2012 - I received a letter in the mail from my Credit Card company saying that they had received documentation from the gym that the charge was valid, and that the documentation was enclosed. Curious, I looked at the enclosed document and it was a version of my contract that had clearly been altered for the day on which payments would begin - it listed 12/1/2010 as the start date, versus the 11/1/2010 date that is on my pink copy of the original contract. I looked into the actual charges I had received from the gym and, indeed, they had not actually began billing until 12/1/10; however, per my contract, they should have started 11/1/10 (or, when they realized their error in billing, they should have contacted me ASAP to let me know about the situation and if I was okay with amending the contract). I again called the gym multiple times to request an explanation as to why my contract had been modified and to find out why I hadn't been notified, but again, I received no return phone calls. I visited the gym multiple times as well and, luckily, I timed it right one day to speak with the "appropriate person" (apparently only she could help with this situation). Her assessment of the situation was simply that someone MUST have sent me a copy of the modified contract (they didn't - and there was no date or initials next to the new date indicating my approval of the modified agreement) and that there was nothing she could do. I have since re-opened the case with my Credit Card company and will be reporting to Better Business Bureau and other local consumer protection agencies, as it wouldn't surprise me if others have experienced a similar scam or even a larger scam, as the managers/owners at WOW Work Out World really seemed to have NO interest whatsoever in speaking with me and trying to resolve this matter in a professional manner. I hope anyone out there that is considering WOW Work Out World as a future gym thinks twice about membership at this establishment and, if you do choose to go there, make sure to keep a copy of the contract as it may come in handy down the road. read more

Like to start by saying, that my review is for renegade fitness, this gym was called work out world previously. My experience at this gym has been horrible from the start. When I first signed up I was offered a free session with a personal trainer. I decided to try it out since there was no commitment to buy classes with a trainer. The person who gave me the session was the manager at the time for what I understand, everything went well till at the end I told her I needed to check my budget to see if I could afford the classes, well she did not like that and said I was making excuses because I was "lazy" and a "quitter". The front desk staff is very friendly and respectful, never had an issue with them. The equipment is not maintained well, most of the cardio machines don't work properly, the elliptical have rust on the handles, some are missing the rubber that covers the handles, other machines don't turn on, and on some of the machines not all functions work. I'm waiting for my one year contract to be up so I can go somewhere else. One nice thing this gym does have is a variety of classes, they have a good Zumba instructor, she teaches 3 times per week, that's the only reason I still come in to the gym for now read more

I love this gym. Just moved to the area. Clientele is mixed. They have a decent tanning bed. Smoothie bar, yum! So many treadmills. I wish the stretching area was larger and wish they offered more classes. Always a good workout. Always leave happy. Staff is always smiling. I say, do it!! read more

I'm surprised there are not more poor reviews of this facility. Employees use to do the cleaning but now they have someone come in from the outside who clean while you're working out, drapping extension cords over tread mills while in operation. Cleaning seems to be performed at the busiest times so you have to step over extension cords or stop excercising to avoid the cleaning fluids. I'm grateful for the cleaning now as previously I'd see mold in the showers, although recently I had to wait for the cleaning to be performed. My wife told me a toilet in the lady's room is always broke. Staff turnaround is horrendous. No one cares about complaints. Racquetball court floors are in bad shape with only one refinished in the last 10 years. You'd find some class being conducted in one of the racquetball courts further degrading the floors. Complaints to the owners are met with threats to terminate membership. Very little money is put in to this place while the owners run around in Caddys and Land Rovers. The place is now under the Renegade banner to make more money. When I joined, I was told a store for exercise clothing was coming. Not. I'm surprised a giant place like LAFitness hasn't been stratigically placed between New London and Groton. It sure needs it. read more

I don't ever post reviews for businesses but from my experience with WOW, and what I've gathered through hearing and reading about other's experiences...I feel the need to share in this and other forums if need be. As a consumer, I'm pretty easy...show me honesty and good customer service, and you'll not only get my business but I will recommend you to my friends & family (free marketing!) Shame on you WOW, you treated me so kindly when I walked in to your facility to sign-up. I faithfully paid monthly for 2 years without any issues. I try to cancel and you tell me I cannot do so in person (the way I signed up!). I have to take time out of my 9-5 work schedule to go to the post office and pay for and send you a certified letter of cancellation. Then you drag your feet and charge me an extra month in the process. Where is my official proof of cancellation by the way? Not even an e-mail? I guess I have to walk into your facility once again and inquire about that! Where is the honesty? And on a side note, I would describe your Waterford facility as mediocre and lacking in amenities. My only experiences with this place are with the Renegade side. And I HIGHLY recommend everyone stay far away from this place. The guy who claims to be the owner (even though it's really his daddy who owns it) is named Billy. He is hands down the rudest, most disrespectful business owner I have ever come across. He yells at his customers, looks for confrontations, and when the customers make him look bad by verbally putting him in his place, he calls the police. The so called "referees" he hires to do the games are not qualified which is the reason there are always issues with the parents. He orders his referees to intentionally target certain teams and players and allows them to verbally abuse the kids in the games. Needles to say with the Norwich Summit Indoor Soccer facility and the new Montville Indoor Soccer facility this guy will hopefully soon be out of business. Even the police that have been called to his facility don't take him seriously as they know he's the one at fault. If you choose to allow your kids to play soccer here you are putting them at risk of injury due to the crappy field conditions, the outdated walls, and incompetent officiating. read more

BUYER BEWARE Friendly folks. Nice place. However - when your contract is coming due...CORPORATE will hold you to notifying them IN WRITING AT LEAST 30 DAYS IN ADVANCE. I sent my written letter in with 28 days to go - so they STILL charged me an EXTRA MONTH. :( That kind of nickel and dime crap is BAD for business.
