We got to see one whale breach and then he just showed his tail but we did see a lot of dolphins and seals. She was very knowledgeable and just had good energy. It was cold and not sunny but we cant control the weather or animals. I love the small group and the advantage its gives to actually see the wildlife without trying to get a good spot. California Shark fishing is awesome!! We had a get together for my brothers Birthday where myself,…read moremy brother, and our mutual friend/Brother Bill All flew into San Diego and hopped on a Shark Charter the next morning to see if we could hunt down some Mako Sharks. In the morning we went into the Dana landing deli and picked up the odds and ends and then called our capt. for the day. Capt. Lou. Now, first off let me tell you; This guy is awesome, we went over the safety for the boat and what to do in case of an emergency and off we went. My brother ended up getting sick pretty quick and he tried to stick it out but we ended up taking him back in after about an hour of fishing, but within that hour we had hooked 3 makos and landed 1. Now the other 2 that we hooked were major fish. Huge sharks!! After taking him back in Lou needed to top off the tanks and back out we went. Now after talking with Lou, we quickly realized that he was our type of fisherman, He is in it for the love of the sport and love of the fish. He was very very persistent and wanted to make sure that we had a constant shot at the fish.. We learned alot about the animal and a ton about shark fishing and the techniques out in the area that we had been fishing in all day. Now don't email me asking for those tips because like any fisherman worth his weight in bait knows, you don't share you tips or spots with just anyone. Anyways, Lou was actively monitoring the flows and drift and making sure we kept a thick slick and to be honest it really started feeling like we were all just fishing buddies not some guys on a charter. I know that Lou may not be the normal guide that you get when going through California Shark Fishing but we may try to make this trip yearly if possible and if we do we will definitely ask for Lou by name. Lou knows his stuff and was an awesome guide, actually probably the best I have had on a charter. This is the type of guy we could just fish with day in and day out because he has the same lets go gettem attitude like we do. I can't say enough about this place, we had a great time and caught some nice fish. On Saturday alone, we caught 13 sharks and saw or broke off another 5 or 6. Sunday was pretty good too as we caught 6 more. I originally booked this trip through Conway Bowman (the man that practically invented fly fishing for shark), but his schedule prevented us from fishing together. Instead, he referred me to Capt. Lou. You can't ask for a nicer guide than Lou. He was incredibly knowledgeable and was just as excited about us catching sharks as we were. He really cares about his work and his passengers. He said going into the first morning that all he wanted was a single opportunity to catch a shark. This tells me that he was more focused on providing a great experience than he was about catching big numbers. That's the way it should be! It was one of the coolest experiences of my life!! We baited sharks in using banana peels and an apple core (no kidding....just ask Lou)!!!! We has sharks jumping 15 feet in the air. I had one battle with a monster for about 50 minutes before I landed him. I was exhausted after that!!. We lost 5 or six flies to the sharks and broke Lou's 14 wt. rod during a battle with a mako (don't worry, the rod has a lifetime guarantee on it). Lou....thank you so much for the experience!!!! We got to see humpback whales, sea lions, and so many common dolphins. The crew was all so welcoming, friendly, and happy to answer any questions you have. It was a smooth riding experience and plenty of seating. It wasn't very crowded on the boat and was very spacious. They even have a whale watching guarantee on their website that says if you don't see a whale then the next trip is free which is really neat. This is a small and locally owned business whose crew is very respectful of the wildlife. They ensure to keep a distance to keep the wildlife safe. They do offer drinks and snacks for purchase or you are free to bring your own! It lasted 3 and a half hours. It was an unbelievable experience and I highly recommend Wild Pacific Whale Watch! Pro-tip I found a great deal on Groupon for it to be more affordable for my husband and I to go. Also, they had a promo code going that Capital One shopping found for me. :)

The weather was great! Their boat was very clean and well kept. Lots of space for everyone. Not rocky at all. The crew were super friendly, knowledgeable, and seemed to really care about what they were doing. Shout out to Captain Redbeard! And the person who was giving us the information while we were riding. She knew everything, it seemed, and was obviously passionate about it... which I loved. We saw every kind of sea bird, a humpback whale, and a half of a megapod of LONG Beach Common Dolphins. It was so amazing! The humpback whale was a juvenile. It was so majestic. No matter where you were on the boat, you could see the dolphins. There was a feeding frenzy, so every creature was there. It really makes you realize how small we really are. I actually got a little teary eyed because it was so breathtaking. I am considering making it a monthly adventure for me myself and I. Anywho, this family owned local business is worth it. The process was easy, the vessel was comfortable and safe, the crew were educated and friendly, and the experience was wonderful. 10/10 would recommend!

Once I received confirmation (photo) I called his best friend and booked his ticket to San Diego from the east coast so the two of them could go together. This was going to be a surprise. I texted Capt Jake to confirm a week out that we were good to go and he confirmed(see text). I found it odd that I never received any email details but I have never booked something like this. The day of the charter I call the captain 3 times to get directions to the dock. He never responded. I finally get a hold of someone, only to be told that there was a mix up and the had double booked my charter and they could not take me. I spent a month and a lot of money preparing for this surprise: flights, permits, supplies. They offered to take the men out the next day but we had other plans that couldn't be changed and my husband's friend was leaving. If this company cares so little about an important event, I can't imagine how they treat people that just want to go fishing. If you are thinking about using this company: DON'T.
