Its going to be hard to top this place- if you're in town, visiting, and are looking for the best cup of Joe, this is it. Look no further. (Coming from someone who's reviewed 57 coffee shops in 5+ states) We're calling it a Top 5 best cup of coffee. Last morning in town, and we wanted to try another spot, grateful (as always) to the yelp reviews that brought us here. Ordered the usual: decaf flat white with heavy cream. Appreciated that the staff spent a moment asking clarifying questions to ensure we were speaking the same coffee language. Waiting for our drinks, we peruse the shop- plenty to keep your eye busy and LOTS of personality to let you know THIS is the kind of place you want to your hard earned dollars to support. First sips of our drinks and it's robust and coffee forward. We LOVE when the coffee is strong enough to stand up to the heavy cream. I could tell within to sips that this would be the place I'll drop into, grab a flat white, and then head over to the library for a good quiet morning. The shop is just on the edge of the downtown plaza, minimal parking but more than enough space to grab your Joe and go. 5 stars, all the way! read more

There isn't much in the way of food however I had a matcha with hemp milk and local honey it was absolutely delicious! The barista was kind and was very descriptive when I asked if hemp milk would be nice in my matcha. It is a bit of a smaller place with just a little bar and a bench for sitting out side, it is was nice and cool inside over all the ambiance was lovely. I'd highly recommend this place! read more

This place was outstanding. I almost went far out of my way the next day to have another cup. My test for good coffee is to order a straight up Americano and see how that tastes without any thing added to it. To me that is the truth serum and here it far exceeded expectation, big wow read more

Super trendy coffee shop. Felt in the way not as welcoming or friendly as expected. Locals only feel. Staff talking over me to tell stories with other customer. I was more of a bother to deal with. My Caffè Americano was ok. I would go down the street to the The Coffee Apothecary instead. Only stop by if your in historic down town Taso and are despite for coffee read more

A cute stop right outside of the plaza. They don't have a lot of seating which is a bummer and when I went it was HOT inside. Not sure if the AC was broken or something but wowza. I thought their turmeric latte was pretty good. Their coffee itself seemed bitter and very dark. My husband loves light to medium roast and was not a fan due to how dark the beans are. read more

We stopped by World Cup Cafe for a little change of pace with our morning coffee. Cute little place, and glad we stopped. The staff was very nice and friendly. Stopped in for iced teas before walking the plaza. Very good black tea for $3/each. Limited seating but we found a spot & watched the regulars come & go. Note: they take only cash or Venmo. There's an atm in there. read more

Fully adore World Cup. We were in town for a 5 day retreat and came here everyday. When you walk into this little corner shop, you start to see why the name adopts "World". There are currencies from ALL over the world along the wall, quotes hidden between the talented art pieces that embrace tickling your brain with compassion for all walks of life, and cute stickers and local happenings posters. I was very excited they served Oatly oatmilk and enjoyed a daily hot matcha made with the perfect level of froth and freshness. Incredibly kind, very respectful, and welcoming I would be a regular if I lived in town. Thank you! read more

The staff is super awesome! Especially the really nice ginger woman. I had a breve latte and they use my favorite dairy company which was a huge plus to me. I love all the little decorations and they seem to have a very similar humor and taste as I have. Definitely a place that would become a hangout spot for me. The awesome lady gave me a bag which was very nice, I'll use it for art supplies. read more

The coffee here is good. Nothing to run home about but better than Starbucks. What bothers me more is considering they are "the world cup" they are not very worldly. There is definitely a certain type of person that is more welcome there and they are not afraid to show it. My abuela also said her and her friends have experienced prejudice. So sad. I want small businesses to thrive in the plaza but dang. Also, no where to sit, just grab and go. read more

I used to live in NW NM and when I'd stop into Taos for groceries Id make sure to hit this spot up. Amazing sustainable coffeehouse with little pastries. The drinks are great and you can feel good knowing you aren't contributing to abusive coffee politics! Baristas are knowledgeable and friendly. Chill place to walk in, grab a drink and a snack, and walk out. Love it here and can't wait to come back again. read more

Always on the search for the coffee hotspot in town. And if World Cup isn't it, it definitely should be! We had coffee here multiple times during our Taos stay. The coffee is great. Plain and simple. Made perfectly. I had a blackberry mocha and my husband had a mint mocha. The flavors were prominent in both, which is rare in our experience. We are pretty particular with our coffee, and World Cup has made us very very happy! read more

Cash only. It is tiny. Maybe 4+ seats in the whole place. The awkwardness of waiting on your coffee in this room with everyone kinda exchanging glances while standing shoulder to shoulder is sitcom perfect, if you're into that kind of thing. Maybe if there was a line or some order it might be less entropic. The coffee was actually pretty good, but I passed on it the next day due to the congestion and overall feel. Try it, be your own judge, but I'd plan to take the coffee with me. read more

A small coffee shop with a lot to offer. We stopped in for an afternoon pick me up while exploring Taos. The coffee from World Cup did the trick. Inside the shop you are reminded that you are in a liberal hippy spot. No hold back on that with political stickers and statements covering one of the walls of the shop. I lived in Austin for several years so this gave me a warm nostalgia. My husband and I both went Iced Mocha Borgias. It's a mocha with fresh orange zest. Wow! There's something about citrus zest that really sets off the flavors of a food or drink. My husband isn't a big coffee person and even he was a fan. It packed the flavor and caffeine we were seeking. The shop was being run by one man, but he prepared our orders quickly. They are cash only so make sure you hit the ATM before stopping in for your caffeine fix. read more

World cup does not mean world cup winner. The coffee was okay, but the pastry items were less than optimal. One coffee cake was so firm and dry, that each bite had to be flushed down with coffee. Definitely not a candidate for a place in the medal ranks. read more

Tiny place and it was packed on a Saturday as the FM was in full swing just steps away. I would definitely start your Saturday here, grabbing some coffee before shopping the Taos Farmers Market. There is a coffee shop on The Plaza, but it's just a hotel/Starbucks type place. We were glad we found World Cup. Service was a bit slow, but they were swamped with a lot of patrons taking up the one small communal table (with all their FM baskets). There are some super cool post cards here for sale here, too. read more

Hmmm I think that maybe the young man working was having a bad day. You don't have to be fake friendly (which he wasn't), but I don't know maybe try not to be unkind (which he came off as). My friend and I were amused by it for awhile after we left, how rude he was. Meanwhile the young woman was hustling and making all the drinks. Thank you for that! They were tasty but very pricey. Also, THEY ARE CASH OR VENMO ONLY FYI. At least they were when I was there. That's kinda inconvenient for a lot of people. Luckily we could do that. ! read more

Great walk up coffee shop! I drink my coffee black and their coffee doesn't disappoint - Robust, complex, just what you need to warm up on the drive into the valley. She drinks a latte and opted for the oat milk. The espresso was delicious, but the oat milk wasn't our fav. Great local spot with good anti corporate vibes. Pray for snow! read more

I totally agree with Chris B. If you need a delicious cup full of extreme leftism & socialism from a COMMUNIST coffeehouse you have come to the right place. Super cute inside, the walls are filled with money from all over the world & tons of signs that oppose capitalism. Has a turmeric latte and is dog friendly. This is Taos culture all the way. I had 2 dogs in this tiny place and while we were here 1 puppy and 2 other dogs came in. Taos loves dogs. They added a shot and a little honey to my turmeric latte which is an experience most people would not enjoy. It was hot with herbs and bitter with turmeric. Great for me. They've got some awesome drinks like butter coffee, and the dandelion drink. Your mileage may vary with their beans. I bought a bag of beans from this place and they were just straight up burnt. I didn't have the heart to say so at the time, but the beans were impossible to brew into a tasty drink. read more

Lovely Taos feel to this lil corner coffee house as you enter the plaza. Super friend and speedy service. Love this town. Definitely try the Mocha Borgia if you love the combination of strong coffee, chocolate, and orange. Made with real orange zest. Not too sweet. There are a few seats inside and a few outside. This place is the heartbeat of Taos ... the 1st stop for locals and visitors before they start their day. The black coffee is actually an Americano... not just an Americano but the GREATEST Americano... foamy like a latte but flavorful. Now... the food ... short, simple, and sweet. Great offerings include even gluten-free option. Their homemade granola with vanilla kefir is a MUST. And they have blue corn bread that's the densest pumpernickel-like bread you've ever eaten. I usually abide by, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" but for this spot, I'll make an exception. There isn't one thing I liked about this coffee shop, not the coffee, not the food, and certainly not their obvious disdain for their country, and those that have fought for their right to share their overtly ignorant and hateful and vile opinions on anyone and everyone who does not agree with them. I prefer to enjoy my coffee with a lot less politics. Overall, Taos as a town isn't worth visiting, So many beautiful ski towns - this town is run down, dirty and falling apart. We did find a few delicious restaurants but this wasn't one of them. Want to understand their attitude? Read the owners childish responses to anyone who gives a negative review. read more

Been crushing a double espresso almost every day while here in Taos. I went elsewhere one day. While the other shop's espresso was fine, this place's is better. Much better. I am a coffee nut so I have a hard time imagining a better shot of espresso anywhere. I am serious. No hyperbole. read more

I noticed some savory pastries at the counter; I got enticed by it but I refrained from getting it as I was on my way to a chocolatier nearby. After walking away from it (a few hundred yards) I realized that I had left my sunglasses in the shop. I immediately went back to get them where the same lady knew why I was back there. She kindly placed them in a secure place for me in the meantime from she pulled them out of. Small and yet a little kind gesture I noticed about her and the shop which I wanted to make a note. Adorable (well, everything is adorable in Taos; it's the southwestern charm for sure!) but it's more than what its appearance says it all. You have to try their products and see for yourself. What I got me were a few bon bons and a chocolate torte (the whiskey kind). -Miso Caramel: is shaped like a mushroom. Even if you might not be a fan of miso based (everything), you should try these bon bons anyway as they don't taste like miso at all. I was quite shocked with this myself (well, I like miso soup; miso taste doesn't bother me at all. Even so, Miso chocolate candy was something I didn't know what to expect out of. That is why I am saying that I was surprised by it.) -New Mexico , Spicy: was also surprising. The kick in these tiny pieces was quite mighty and yet it was tolerable. -Whisky Torte: All sorts of organic ingredients are used to make these delightful tortes. Tortes tend to be a lot heavier than traditional cakes as their texture is that of fudge. And yet, that shouldn't be a reason for you to steer clear from it as this chocolatier perfected the torte in a way that it will not be too rich or heavy for your taste or stomach. At least that is what I thought when I tasted it. Another must-try item on their menu offerings. For its interior, it's mostly and simply grey on walls but this emits the "chicness" that doesn't overshadow the theme of its business. You should also pay attention to the ceilings and the floors. A careful attention to entertain the guests' eyes is seen throughout. Service was good. I first went here late in the afternoon (close to its closing time). I quickly glanced at each section of the store inside. The kind gentleman upfront wanted to assist me but after asking him if it was open tomorrow (it would be Sunday), he said yes to which I gave him my promise that I would be back tomorrow. The same man assisted me when I was back the very next day to make a purchase. Not sure if he remembered me or not. It's not chocolate bon bons or tortes you can enjoy at this store. The café offers tasting trios, mocha, chocolate mouse, ice cream, affogato, hot chocolate, and espresso and so on. This is a haven for chocolate fanatics.

Thankfully, we still ended up finding a good alternative: Strawberry Ice Cream Sammich with homemade vanilla ice cream. Now, anyone who knows me knows I love chocolate way more than vanilla. However, this was quite possibly the best vanilla ice cream I've ever had! It was incredible! The cookies for the sammich were pretty sweet on their own, so the homemade ice cream definitely helped with that. I also tried one of their homemade Salted Caramels, but I wasn't a fan of them. The kind owner gave my guy and I some treats for our dogs to try and they loved it! I really wish I had bought a whole bag for them because they are packed with great ingredients and they were very fresh. Highly recommend if you find yourself in the area!

Ugh. I have been going to the World Cup for a decade when I lived in Boulder and Santa Fe. It was a ritual to start and end a trip to Taos with an espresso there and though the service was often somewhere between aloof and A hole, the espresso was pretty good and it was a good place to watch Taos roll by. I went recently and it was crummy on so many levels that I will just pick three to avoid writing a Russian novel. 1.) Craft. The barista, a young tatted woman in her late twenties, smacked my cortado down so the steamed milk diffused into the coffee making it look less like latte art than coffee served at an AA meeting (I have been to AA meetings with friends and they treated their coffee with more respect.) I worked as a server for a long time and how people handle food and drinks when no one is watching tells you everything. When someone acts like an orc toward espresso when people are watching it's time for an intervention. 2.) Espresso...sucked so bad. I ended up sipping it and then throwing it out. I have never had such bad espresso really anywhere. I'm driving cross country and stopped at Starbucks at 8 pm because I needed to drive another four hours and there espresso was kinda okay, I mean I could tell it was espresso at least and it wasn't bitter and even had some fruity, peppery, and floral notes. This was garbage. 3.) Service. Ugh. Okay. So World Cup's service has always been its weakest link, but this is somewhere on the Asperger's spectrum. The barista, of course, didn't make eye contact because that's just crazy town. Expect that, but I also ordered toast with butter and, of course, 15 minutes into waiting the barista's hipster friend came in sparking a hugging session, and a long conversation about their personal lives, their auras, the energy healer they just saw, rates for energy healers in Taos, and how best to spend an afternoon off (nap or art supplies?). So after 45 minutes, I was like...could I get that toast with butter? Her: A startled look, what? Me: I had ordered toast with butter, right? Her: I guess?! Me: Yes. I did and also paid for it so do you want to refund me or give it to me. Her: Veiled look to her hipster friend who shook her shoulders like, these tourists, what can you do with them? Me: tapping my feet, Her: shrugs her shoulders and gets me the toast. There is better espresso and service in Taos. Try Apothecary. Elevation is also good. Starbucks...actually has good teas, air conditioning, and bathrooms (World Cup has you use public bathrooms quite a walk away and often full.) read more

How the police allow this place to stay open is a testament to Taos being a vacation spot of a past era. I went to get an espresso yesterday morning and some maniac right by the register was shooting up. I had to rub my eyes to make sure I wasn't hallucinating, but it was real. I looked at the guy manning the register and taking orders and he gave me the 'can I help you' look. I knew World Cup was a little edgy and hipster, but Damn dude. There's a place for that. We were looking for coffee. The windows are littered with political garbage signs but what is worse is the scary people hanging out on the steps and all around the shop with political signs. We ignored their yells and antics but they kept yelling at us. On a Sunday morning!! No thanks we moved on. read more

Tucked away in Taos is one of the most unassuming coffee shops you'll ever find. From the outside, you might drive right past it. Step inside, though, and you'll immediately understand why there's always a line out the door. My daughter and I each ordered iced lattes. She went with vanilla and oat milk, while I stuck with my go-to combination of oat milk and honey. Both drinks were outstanding. Smooth, balanced, and packed with flavor without being overly sweet. I've had coffee all over the United States and in several countries around the world, and these lattes easily rank among my favorites. The coffee impressed us so much that we couldn't leave without grabbing a bag of their light roast to take home. What stood out just as much as the coffee was the atmosphere. The staff was incredibly welcoming, the service was excellent, and despite the constant flow of customers, everyone was smiling. Yes, you'll probably wait in line--but trust me, it's worth every minute. One funny moment from our visit: I had just found an open table when a gentleman told me, "I was saving that one." I laughed, told him to go right ahead...and then watched him walk over and sit at a completely different table. It gave my daughter and me a good laugh and made for one of those random travel memories you don't forget. Final Verdict: If you're visiting Taos and consider yourself a coffee lover, this place belongs at the very top of your list. Fantastic coffee. Friendly people. A welcoming atmosphere.
