After a concert last night i definitely wasn't going home to cook so passed by the world famous hotboys and word of mouth I've been told to try it. Glad I did. I got my order to go but the gentleman who took my order was kind enough to offer me a cup for some water. The spot was happening. Music, good vibes, the decor was fun. I couldn't decide which meal I was trying so I'm definitely going to make another trip sometime soon. I got the tenders with mac but added a side of greens. Boy oh boy the greens were the star and wow my tastebuds were incredibly satisfied. I've had greens but these were like some ultimate flavors and holy greens i definitely could just order some of these every now and again by themselves. Mac was great. Definitely complimented the greens. The tenders though omg. The flavor was insane. I gotta try them with the waffles next time for sure. Overall the wait wasn't long and my food was still hot. I ended up sharing with my son and he was even raving about it. Great service, fun and lit atmosphere, last but not least food was fire. Side note: people complain about price but I'll be honest, when the food is good and staff are amazing, the price to me doesn't matter. You get what you pay for and let's be real, this isn't chic fil a, this is hot boys and the chicken is definitely that. read more

Mixed reviews. Five of us visited. I enjoyed my chicken sandwich at the "mild plus" heat level. The other four people I was with got "medium" and "medium plus" (they are hot sauce / heat lovers) and they all hated the food. It honestly hurt to see all that chicken go directly into the garbage, but they claim it was inedible. Since it's not a saucy type of flavoring, but a dry rub, they said that the heat was painful, and not flavorful. Back to the sandwich I enjoyed... I felt that there was a sweetness to the flavor that I liked, which I could see not everyone enjoying. There is also a hot dusting over the french fries which exacerbates any discomfort people are having from the heat. There really wasn't anything to cool it down. They're not playing around with spice, go 1-2 levels lower than you order at other hot chicken places. I recommend the tenders, waffles, and loaded guap fries! Portions are generous. The team here is so energetic and lively, and this space is always hosting pop ups and events! read more

First time around I tried the sandwich with the sauce on the side and fries. The fries were good and had a seasoning on them with a bit of a kick. Second time I just ordered the tender sandwich and the collard greens which also had a slight kick but I like it. I will definitely be ordering them again! Tried the mac&cheese but wasn't a fan, but I'm a mac&cheese snob as well. If you find yourself in Indy's Fountain Square, definitely stop by. The food is great and worth the wait on a busy day, but the process is a little confusing. The menu is pretty small and taped to the counter where you order, so there isn't much in the way of deciding what you want ahead of time. The menu online didn't quite match the printed version, there were more options once we got to the register so that was just a little overwhelming. And after we ordered, it wasn't super clear if we were supposed to wait at our table and someone would find us or if we needed to stand in the back where they were yelling numbers (it was WAY too busy and way too small of a space to do the latter, but our table was out front so it was unclear if they'd actually find us.) The food absolutely makes this experience better, but if you're anxious in new situations the process just isn't super clear for first-timers. Maybe that's just a personal problem for me, but a bit more direction would've made this a five-star experience. read more

The medium tasted hot but not like a Thai hot and the hot my husband said he wished he got the hotter instead. Chicken was decent size and the dipping sauce was delicious. Meal comes with 2 tenders and a side for $15 which is pricey. You can add an extra piece though for $5 more:( comes with 2 ranch so don't buy extra!! Place is small and really cluttered , decor was really outdated. Tables and floor definitely needed replaced. Coke, beer and other beverages available. Plenty of street parking available. read more

Best meal I've had in a looooong time-- I used to go to the Oakland location back in high school and this brought me back :) I think the Oakland location is spicier because I always got Mild Plus and it would make me sweat but here the Mild Plus is very manageable. I love the slaw bc it's not too salty or greasy-cuts the spice and oil of the chicken and is so perfect. If you're getting the Sando Meal I'd recommend getting extra slaw as your side! The buns r perfectly toasted, the chicken is slightly sweet, super crispy and sooo juicy inside. The staff are so kind and took the time to explain the entire menu to my friends. Vibes inside are super fun and make the whole experience that much more exciting! There aren't tables that can seat more than 4 people though. I love spicy food. Spent 30 years of my life in TX and NM. Then moved to West TN. So I have had some Hot Chicken and really spicy food. We ordered three meals. Light, Dark and naked wings. I will start with sides. The greens, better than I ever had including AL, MS, LA and TN. Slaw was classic LA. Good, I am vinger slaw guy. Now for the chicken. First and foremost the medium is no joke HOT. Anyone can make something hot. But the flavor of the hotness is world class. Whatever they do, (brine whatever) the flavor is deep in the meat, including the breast. Absolutely fantastic. My only advice is if you find a raw jalapeno to hot, go one level down in spice. I haven't had the chicken sandwiches, but the maque choux over rice is super good! My son loves the chicken sandwiches and gets them at their top spice level. He is extremely tolerant to spicy foods, so I probably wouldn't recommend the top spice level unless you don't have tastebuds too. Haha! read more

The hot boys do not fuck around, their medium plus is easily hotter than the "5 star", "insane", "nuclear", etc at most other restaurants. My face is on the wall for doing a spicy eating challenge at another hot chicken place like this... so I almost ordered the hot, I'm glad I didn't! The medium plus really challenged me! I was here for a meeting with some of my alumni before they had to leave for college, we ordered our food and it came out pretty fast! I enjoyed the chicken sandwich with fries, it was very tasty! The food was good and we loved both the Mac n cheese and the fries. I appreciated the options for spice and heat so my mild was doable and not burning my oh so sensitive taste buds. The wait was short even though they were busy, and we loved the ability to sit outside in the sunny day. The music choices were just not our thing and sort of ruined the experience for us. I work with a diverse group and this found some of the lyrics to just be over the top - so be warned about that if going and eating in. Second time in Indnpls, but the first time for World Famous Hotboys. The talk is primarily about how hot is Hot and how much of the heat can you stand. As a huge fan of spice, but a hungry hungry contestant who wanted to enjoy my food rather than suffer, I opted to try the Medium Hot. Will admit that it was an ideal amount of spice to have heat but still enjoy. Brandon ordered the Hot and pretty much suffered the entire time. I've been hearing about this place for a long time so I was finally able to go check it out during Fountain Square's "First Friday" monthly event! I can happily say it was worth the wait! The chicken is amazing! I had the Chicken & Waffles with mild heat & my wife had the loaded chicken fries that were STACKED with toppings! (Not pictured because they were half gone by the time I got my food and as you can see I was so excited that I almost forgot to take a picture myself!) This chicken is damn good & damn hot! they aren't lying with the spice level and I like to think I can handle at least a good medium heat. We walked in on a Saturday around 5pm and were able to place our order within 5 minutes. The employee was very friendly and helped walk us through the different levels of heat. We ended up going with the tender meal with a heat level between medium and hot. Our side was mac fritters and the drink was pink lemonade. The meal comes with a slice of fluffy white bread and I definitely needed it This chicken was some of the hottest I've ever had. It was crispy and delicious and the same can be said about the mac and cheese fritters. They were creamy and gooey on the inside and perfectly breaded on the outside. The tenders came with their signature dipping sauce which was good, but i'm not sure exactly what was in it. It helped cool down the chicken a little! The ambiance is super cool both inside and out. They don't have much inside seating available, but it is decorated and lit with lots of neon and bright colors. The outside has 2 covered tables that each seat about 6 and about 3 picnic style tables directly out front that are not covered. Parking is available on the street out front. read more

I tried the grimace (grape) adult frosty and it was sooo good in this heat! We had a group of 10 of us. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed their food. Great service, great vibes great atmosphere. I absolutely LOVE a good chicken sandwich. This one is at the top with some of the best of them. I could tell with them using a chicken thigh it brought the flavor and juiciness to another level. I don't normally go for the "hot" dusted style stuff but this flavor was elite still with it. I would like to start by saying I LOVE their chicken sandwich! The chicken was so juicy & flavorful. The sauce went to well with both the sandwich & the fries! I liked the fact that they had the mango flavored Jarritos drink, there's not many places that have that flavor available. I also loved that they had South Park on the tv, definitely gave me nostalgia vibes. From the outside windows having the led flame lights, you could guess the inside has fun stuff that would catch your eye. What an institution. As a native Californian it's pretty cool to see a CA business open their one out of state location in Indy. I've never had it before because I don't spend much time in the Bay Area but no doubt the region has some of the best food in America. We stopped at Hotboys for lunch while visiting a bunch of bookstores in the area. Walking in here instantly puts you in a good mood with all the fun decorations. We had never been here before so the guy at the register showed us the menu and suggested the étouffée, saying it was a particularly good that day.
