This is my first time at this location. I have been to the other location a few times. This restaurant is in a small strip mall and has a decent-sized parking lot. There is a decent-sized dining room with televisions. As an added bonus, they have a camera kiosk at the front of the resturant, where you can take souvenir pictures. Just be warned, I came on an average Tuesday, and this place is packed. The staff there was very friendly, and our server was very attentive and helpful. They serve soul food and barbecue. Some of their favorites include chicken and waffles, fried chicken, ribs, catfish, potato salad, green beans, French fries, and salads. I ordered the sampler with fried catfish, 2 wings, baked beans, and collard greens. And yes, they do have hot sauce. It took about 10 minutes for me to get my food, and that was good considering the place was packed. My was was fresh, hot, and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Soul Food - Wow! This restaurant is located in a strip mall with a parking lot, making it easy to find parking. The surrounding area may not look like much from the outside, but don't let that discourage you. As soon as we walked through the door, we felt welcomed. We were greeted immediately and seated in a comfortable booth. The inside of the restaurant was surprisingly nice. It was very clean, well-maintained, and featured modern décor that gave the space a warm and inviting atmosphere. The combination of contemporary touches and a comfortable dining area made it a great place to sit back and enjoy a meal. Our waiter was outstanding and took the time to walk us through the menu, explain some of the popular dishes, and answer all of our questions. The friendly service made the experience even better. The food? All I can say is wow! Every bite reminded me of the soul food I grew up eating with my mom. It brought back wonderful memories and delivered the kind of comfort food experience that's hard to find. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned perfectly. For sides, we tried the salad, potato salad, fries, mac and cheese, and baked beans. Everything was delicious, but the baked beans were the star of the meal. They had amazing flavor and are something I would highly recommend ordering. The cornbread that came with the meal was also fresh, moist, and complemented everything perfectly. We also ordered the Choose 2 option with catfish and smothered pork. Both dishes were flavorful and cooked well. The catfish was nicely seasoned, and the smothered pork was tender and satisfying. From the welcoming atmosphere and modern décor to the excellent service and incredible food, this was a dining experience that exceeded expectations. This was me and my family's first time eating at His Place's newest location on the Northwest side. After experiencing this particular His Place, I must say that this is the best one and one of my top 5 places to go eat In Indianapolis. From the service to the atmosphere to the amazing food/ drink, 10/10!! 1. Atmosphere- The atmosphere was very modern, new, clean, welcoming, and home-y. I loved it! What I loved most was the stark difference of space between this location and their Eastside location. There was so much more space to be seated, order, and move around. I didn't feel too crowded or removed from the rest of the restaurant. 2. Service- The service was A1! Our waitress, Brandy, was phenomenal. She was timely, inviting, and nice. The other restaurant workers were also very nice and welcoming. 3. FOOD- The food?? Bussin! OMG. They outdid themselves during this last visit! I have been plotting my next visit ever since we left lol! So my son got the chicken wing dinner with fries. I got a the chicken wing and fried catfish combo dinner with green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. My girlfriend got the fried catfish dinner with sweet potatoes and baked beans. The owner James was very caring. He came to my table as he typically does to check on our experience. My 4 perch with corn bread and candied sweet potatoes were overfilling on my plate so I asked for an additional plate. Then I thought that I could just move my bowl of yams onto the table. Perch was quite breaded and somewhat meaty. The takeout lady had me thinking I would get 2 cornbread, but actually I only got one by dining in. Candied sweet potatoes were amazing and hit the spot! I hereby anoint His Place Eatery as THE place to find the best banana pudding in Indianapolis! I don't say that lightly. I have been a die-hard Buc-ee's banana pudding apologist for years, but His Place Eatery's banana pudding is even better than that dang beaver's banana pudding. It takes a lot for me to write that. The banana pudding here is layered with Nilla Wafers, sliced bananas, vanilla pudding and a thick banana custard, topped with Nilla Wafer crumbs. No whipped cream, but if I'm tasting it correctly, I think whipped cream is beaten into the custard, because it's light and fluffy. It's a supremely excellent dessert. I haven't actually tasted anything else from His Place Eatery. This was solely a banana pudding thing. The dining room was clean and staff was great. Out server was Precious and she handled our table like a pro. It was my first time here so I got the combo with grilled Cajun catfish and smothered pork chop, greens and bourbon creamed corn. Everything was 10/10 except the smothered pork chop. It was 9/10 ONLY because the sauce on it was too sweet for me. The chop itself was fork tender. I was too full for dessert but I grabbed some of their banana pudding to take to my sister, who loves banana pudding. She said it was amazing. I would have never stumbled upon this gem had it not been for meeting Bri, who coordinated some of the events during All Star Weekend. She mentioned her family having a restaurant and proceeded to share. I must say this was worth every minute driving from downtown to this area of Indy. The staff here was phenomenal and you can tell this is THE SPOT. There are two locations for this establishment. I was invited by a friend to go on a Friday afternoon and then by another friend the next day, Saturday, and i gladly accepted that invitation. The portion sizes are great and I'll usually have a small leftover. My favorite sides so far have been the greens and sweet potatoes. It can get pretty busy around dinner(5/6pm) and weekends seem to be pretty busy but they seem to still get you in pretty fast and I haven't experienced crazy wait times for food to come. This place really surprised me. The food was prepared very well. Their service was also great at the table. My family tried a few different meals. Catfish, pork chop, burger, greens, sweet potatoes, and it was good. Very well seasoned. My only complaint would also be I love catfish. I don't like when places serve swai or some other whitefish labeled as catfish. If you grew up catching and cleaning them you definitely know the difference. I've been hearing the hype about His Place and was excited to give this new location a try! I will admit I was a little put off by the price point of the dishes, but after tasting the food, I feel like it was worth it! The restaurant is relatively new, impeccably clean, and has a nice size dining room with booths and tables as well as a counter for easy take out ordering. I settled on the catfish with the advice of our server and was very pleased with it. The cornmeal crust was perfectly crisp, the fish was flaky and was fried just right, without being greasy. If I had one critique it would be that the breading needed a little more salt, but that's really nitpicking because overall it was some of the best fried catfish I've had! The side dishes were also great, the cole slaw is creamy and sweet and the creamed corn had great flavor. Our table also tried the fried chicken, waffle, and the Buffalo catfish sandwich. All dishes received two thumbs up! The strawberry butter in particular set the chicken and waffles apart. Next time I'd love to try some of their other house made flavored butters, because I'm sure they're delicious too! Our server was very friendly and attentive. Needing comfort food, my sister and I did a yelp search to find a place that fit. It needed to be relatively close to St Vincent Heart Center and casual because neither of us had packed appropriate clothing for an upscale restaurant. My search lead us to a pic of His Place Eatery's Fried Chicken Pot Pie and we knew we found our restaurant. We both ordered Sweet Tea and it didn't disappoint. I drank a tall glass before I even ordered my food. We also each ordered the Fried Chicken Pot Pie, Candied Sweet Potatoes , and Mac n Cheese. Some entrees come with your choice of sides, but the pot pie doesn't. We had to pay extra for those, but we didn't mind at all. Our dinner was exactly the comfort food we needed. The response from the manager regarding my review is pretty disappointing. We did not request to be moved. The host decided on a booth instead of the table because the seating of another party made their chair pushed to the end of the table the host originally tried to seat us at. We also requested the high chair after we were sat at the booth. Then upon the second request we were told we could not have it at the booth. Not the first request and not even when we came in and asked for "3 and a high chair" from the host. We tried to seek out our server as well as other server's attention near us. I do not feel that complaining to the manager and causing an unpleasant experience for our table when we are trying to celebrate is appropriate. I had no plans of even writing a review until we had the change shortage issue arise when we were on the way home. Finally the most disappointing part of the response, saying you wish I had left a positive review all these years not just a negative one. I have reviewed your business positively before on yelp, google reviews and even throw back to the end of year reviews that ran for the years of COVID on Indy Best Food pages. I have written around 6 positive, outstanding reviews on how much I have loved this place. That is see able right here on this platform to just even confirm one of those. I know I'm late getting to this location, but worth. the. wait. Their food is SO good!!! I came here on Mother's Day with my mom, grandma, and brother. We decided to check out the new location and figured it would be insanely busy because of the holiday and how popular this place is. Since they don't take reservations, we made it a point to get there right at opening, which is 11am. We were seated immediately. The ladies at the front were incredibly sweet and showed us to our table. We sat at a booth, and I think these booths might be a bit smaller than standard because it was definitely a little snug for four people. If you're sitting across from someone, just know you might accidentally play footsie during your meal--but don't let that deter you! Our server Kylie was amazing..super sweet and super knowledgeable. My mom and grandma were curious about the mac & cheese, and Kylie offered to bring out a couple of samples for them to try, which was such a kind touch. Unsurprisingly, the mac & cheese was incredible, so we all ended up ordering it as a side with our meals. The staff were kind, courteous, and gracious. The location at the corner of a small strip mall area. It's extremely clean and well kept. The facilities were well taken care of, you can tell daily maintenance is just as important as the food they serve. Another plus, for me. My family and I shared the meals so we could all get a taste. I knew as soon as I saw it announced that I would make my way to the second and newest location of His Place Eatery, a divinely inspired establishment at 30th and Shadeland that has now opened up shop in a storefront at 86th and Ditch Road on Indy's northwest side. His Place Eatery is a locally owned establishment specializing in soul food and BBQ. Started by Chef James Jones and his wife Shawn, it weaves together a tapestry of exceptionally flavorful food, warm and comfortable atmosphere, and consistent hospitality. I was delivering Easter lilies at a nearby retirement community and decided to take the opportunity to finally stop at His Place Eatery. It was fairly soon after they opened and just a bit before the usual Sunday lunch/brunch, post-church crowd would arrive. His Place is located in an older strip center. The strip has some accessible parking and several end spots. I had no trouble finding a spot that would work. There's a curb cut almost directly in front of His Place. The double glass doors are pretty manageable and there are employees close by if help is needed. As you turn left inside, you're at the hosting station. There's a dining area and an area for carry-out. They debated where to put me - initially looking at a two-top. Fortunately, you could tell they were thinking wisely (as both me and my wheelchair are a bit wider) and put me at a four-top. I appreciated the consideration - this place can get crowded so that was definitely an act of hospitality. The menu consists of a variety of options mostly in the soul food, BBQ arenas. They have entrees (2 sides), baskets (with fries, no substitutions), a few signature dishes, sides, and a handful of desserts. I was tempted to try their Smokehouse Meatloaf, however, opted for a fried chicken basket - you can get it with white meat, dark meat, or four wings. I opted for white meat. It includes fries and bread. His Place carries Pepsi products along with both sweet and unsweetened tea. They also have fruit punch and Uptown. This is not fast food. It's well made food with pricing typically in the $15-20 range. Entrees will make it a wee bit higher. His Place also offers catering. Okay, the experience? The food? Sublime. The fried chicken was beautifully seasoned and surprisingly plentiful. This was a nicely sized meal. I also enjoyed the fries. The bread was probably the weak link here for me - I still enjoyed it. The service? Perfect. It was warm, hospitable, and thoughtful. They handled the wheelchair well. I lingered a bit with my iced tea and was encouraged to do so. It has been a rough week as my father entered hospice this week - it was nice to be encouraged to just sit and enjoy my meal and my drink. Interestingly, I'd been scheduled to come here for the first time with a friend on the night my father entered ICU a little over a week ago. The emergency detoured my dinner plans. It was so nice to come back and to be treated so well. This isn't fancy dining. The atmosphere is simple yet warm and comfy. The food feels like home cooking (Okay, maybe your home. Not my home. We managed to check out this restaurant while visiting Indianapolis and were pleasantly surprised! We were a party of 12 and showed up immediately at opening. The server was kind and made recommendations for desserts. The potato salad was my personal star and the sweet potatoes were amazing. The waffles were fluffy and perfectly crisp on the outside and the green beans were extremely flavorful so was the dressing. The have killed the sides game. There were no complaints about the chicken and seasoning on the wings but I will say the catfish could stand to get that same treatment, the hot sauce saved it and I have a preference for a crispier crust on the fish but still tasty. We asked for his recommendations and they did not disappoint. The collard greens were the best I've ever had and we have family that lives in the south, so that's saying something.
