Catfish and fries

Soul Food - Wow! This restaurant is located in a strip mall with a parking lot, making it easy to find parking. The surrounding area may not look like much from the outside, but don't let that discourage you. As soon as we walked through the door, we felt welcomed. We were greeted immediately and seated in a comfortable booth. The inside of the restaurant was surprisingly nice. It was very clean, well-maintained, and featured modern décor that gave the space a warm and inviting atmosphere. The combination of contemporary touches and a comfortable dining area made it a great place to sit back and enjoy a meal. Our waiter was outstanding and took the time to walk us through the menu, explain some of the popular dishes, and answer all of our questions. The friendly service made the experience even better. The food? All I can say is wow! Every bite reminded me of the soul food I grew up eating with my mom. It brought back wonderful memories and delivered the kind of comfort food experience that's hard to find. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned perfectly. For sides, we tried the salad, potato salad, fries, mac and cheese, and baked beans. Everything was delicious, but the baked beans were the star of the meal. They had amazing flavor and are something I would highly recommend ordering. The cornbread that came with the meal was also fresh, moist, and complemented everything perfectly. We also ordered the Choose 2 option with catfish and smothered pork. Both dishes were flavorful and cooked well. The catfish was nicely seasoned, and the smothered pork was tender and satisfying. From the welcoming atmosphere and modern décor to the excellent service and incredible food, this was a dining experience that exceeded expectations. I left impressed and already looking forward to my next visit. There are several other items on the menu that I can't wait to try. If you're looking for soul food, generous portions, friendly service, and a comfortable atmosphere, this place is definitely worth a visit.

This was me and my family's first time eating at His Place's newest location on the Northwest side. After experiencing this particular His Place, I must say that this is the best one and one of my top 5 places to go eat In Indianapolis. From the service to the atmosphere to the amazing food/ drink, 10/10!! 1. Atmosphere- The atmosphere was very modern, new, clean, welcoming, and home-y. I loved it! What I loved most was the stark difference of space between this location and their Eastside location. There was so much more space to be seated, order, and move around. I didn't feel too crowded or removed from the rest of the restaurant. 2. Service- The service was A1! Our waitress, Brandy, was phenomenal. She was timely, inviting, and nice. The other restaurant workers were also very nice and welcoming. 3. FOOD- The food?? Bussin! OMG. They outdid themselves during this last visit! I have been plotting my next visit ever since we left lol! So my son got the chicken wing dinner with fries. I got a the chicken wing and fried catfish combo dinner with green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. My girlfriend got the fried catfish dinner with sweet potatoes and baked beans. We also got a side of macaroni and cheese and greens for good measure. We all also chose to receive a cornbread muffin with our meals. Yall... I'm not exaggerating I literally loved all of the food. The chicken wings reminded me of the homemade fried ones that I used to love so much when I was younger. My son tore his wings up, and he's a picky eater . So that says a lot. The fries were surprisingly so delish. Perfectly cooked. My FAVORITE side was the sweet potatoes!! I'm not even a big sweet potato girl but they were too good! I can't wait to slide my fork back through those smh ‍. This fish is and will always be a hit with me, and I'll always recommend it. I didn't get a picture, but they make an Uptown (sweet tea/ lemonade mix) that is soooo FIRE ! That is a must have from here forth. Lastly, for dessert we had their sweet potato cheesecake. Also, delicious! His Place easily earned all 5 of their stars.

Meatloaf, corn and stuffing

TL;DR: This place is fantastic. You need to eat here. My office has catered from His Place before, so I decided to dine in with another couple. I ordered the smoked meatloaf with creamed corn and stuffing, and I have to say, it outshined the meatloaf I make on my charcoal grill at home. The smoked flavor and taste of the meat was incredible, the stuffing was fantastic, and the creamed corn was perfectly done. Everyone at our table loved their meals. We were so impressed that we've been back three weeks in a row. Honestly, we haven't found a single thing we don't like on the menu. His Place is a must-visit. This will become a Indy staple, if it isn't already.

The food selections were delicious, we had the chicken and waggles, with a side of peach cobbler along with the catfish, This restaurant does not disappoint, my husband had the ribs, Mac n cheese and baked beans.

I was in the area in time for their weekday lunch menu that ends at 3 pm. I accidentally went to the front counter and did not realize I was ordering takeout. So she directed me to re-order after being escorted to a table by the host left of the door. Unfortunately, EMS was there for patient. They were actually not too disturbing. The owner James was very caring. He came to my table as he typically does to check on our experience. My 4 perch with corn bread and candied sweet potatoes were overfilling on my plate so I asked for an additional plate. Then I thought that I could just move my bowl of yams onto the table. Perch was quite breaded and somewhat meaty. The takeout lady had me thinking I would get 2 cornbread, but actually I only got one by dining in. Candied sweet potatoes were amazing and hit the spot! My lunch special was $15.99 without tax. I passed on the Frank hot sauce and the unwanted tartar sauce. Wow, they have a camera machine by the exit to capture the moment! I am glad that I finally got to this new location. Food was great but service could use a little improvement.

We were in town picking up a car and just wanted to try a place with some soul food. This was perfect. Good ambiance, the service was good and quick. The food was amazing as my family tried multiple items. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars in because of the fish. It was clearly swai. Had I known, we wouldn't have ordered it. Otherwise it was a pleasant experience.

Want some really great soul food? Then you should definitely try His Place Eatery. We were greeted warmly and our servers have always been professional and knowledgeable about the menu. My first visit, I had the fried catfish, greens and Mac/cheese. When I tell you the catfish was HOT(temp).......I mean it was hot forever! Not sure how they do it but I'm glad they do. Second visit I had the fried chicken. Yum! Fried to perfection and seasoned just right. Husband had the grilled cheese with greens BOTH times. It's so fun eating there because everyone including the customers are so nice. The restaurant is brightly colored and full of energy!

Easy 5 stars! This place honestly deserves more. During my trip to Indy for All Star weekend I was determined to find some good food. I would have never stumbled upon this gem had it not been for meeting Bri, who coordinated some of the events during All Star Weekend. She mentioned her family having a restaurant and proceeded to share. I must say this was worth every minute driving from downtown to this area of Indy. The staff here was phenomenal and you can tell this is THE SPOT. There are two locations for this establishment. I'm sure they both will grant you the same experience and burst of flavors in every bite. You want soul food, you're going to get soul food. Food made with love straight from the soul. Food was so good, I had to order a plate to go that was going to travel 4 hours with me back to Tennessee. If you're ever in Indy, come here. You will NOT be disappointed.

I'm just glad I don't live closer because I'dbe in trouble lol. The food is fantastic, service was wonderful, and it's clean. I was invited by a friend to go on a Friday afternoon and then by another friend the next day, Saturday, and i gladly accepted that invitation. The portion sizes are great and I'll usually have a small leftover. My favorite sides so far have been the greens and sweet potatoes. It can get pretty busy around dinner(5/6pm) and weekends seem to be pretty busy but they seem to still get you in pretty fast and I haven't experienced crazy wait times for food to come. My favorite place for a good meal, can't wait to come back.

I've been hearing the hype about His Place and was excited to give this new location a try! I will admit I was a little put off by the price point of the dishes, but after tasting the food, I feel like it was worth it! The restaurant is relatively new, impeccably clean, and has a nice size dining room with booths and tables as well as a counter for easy take out ordering. I settled on the catfish with the advice of our server and was very pleased with it. The cornmeal crust was perfectly crisp, the fish was flaky and was fried just right, without being greasy. If I had one critique it would be that the breading needed a little more salt, but that's really nitpicking because overall it was some of the best fried catfish I've had! The side dishes were also great, the cole slaw is creamy and sweet and the creamed corn had great flavor. Our table also tried the fried chicken, waffle, and the Buffalo catfish sandwich. All dishes received two thumbs up! The strawberry butter in particular set the chicken and waffles apart. Next time I'd love to try some of their other house made flavored butters, because I'm sure they're delicious too! Our server was very friendly and attentive. We appreciated her recommendations and answers to our menu questions. The food came out quickly and was hot and fresh. I would highly recommend stopping in the next time you're craving a good soul food meal.

Mac n Cheese and Candied Sweet Potatoes

Needing comfort food, my sister and I did a yelp search to find a place that fit. It needed to be relatively close to St Vincent Heart Center and casual because neither of us had packed appropriate clothing for an upscale restaurant. My search lead us to a pic of His Place Eatery's Fried Chicken Pot Pie and we knew we found our restaurant. We both ordered Sweet Tea and it didn't disappoint. I drank a tall glass before I even ordered my food. We also each ordered the Fried Chicken Pot Pie, Candied Sweet Potatoes , and Mac n Cheese. Some entrees come with your choice of sides, but the pot pie doesn't. We had to pay extra for those, but we didn't mind at all. Our dinner was exactly the comfort food we needed. The fried chicken was juicy, the mac n cheese creamy, and the candied sweet potatoes offered the perfect balance to the rich, savory foods Feeling a little extra, we even ordered peach cobbler and ice cream to end our evening. It was all memorable. Loved our waitress Janise. She was really friendly and offered great service

The response from the manager regarding my review is pretty disappointing. We did not request to be moved. The host decided on a booth instead of the table because the seating of another party made their chair pushed to the end of the table the host originally tried to seat us at. We also requested the high chair after we were sat at the booth. Then upon the second request we were told we could not have it at the booth. Not the first request and not even when we came in and asked for "3 and a high chair" from the host. We tried to seek out our server as well as other server's attention near us. I do not feel that complaining to the manager and causing an unpleasant experience for our table when we are trying to celebrate is appropriate. I had no plans of even writing a review until we had the change shortage issue arise when we were on the way home. Finally the most disappointing part of the response, saying you wish I had left a positive review all these years not just a negative one. I have reviewed your business positively before on yelp, google reviews and even throw back to the end of year reviews that ran for the years of COVID on Indy Best Food pages. I have written around 6 positive, outstanding reviews on how much I have loved this place. That is see able right here on this platform to just even confirm one of those. To imply that I only have written a negative review after saying I have respected your business for years, is disappointing. You did not respond to apologize but you responded to push the blame and responsibility onto the customer. You said you were disappointed I wrote my review, the one negative out of the many positives.

I finally made it back today around 8:45 p.m. I knew the restaurant closed at 10 p.m., so I made sure not to come at the last minute. I ordered and paid for my food at 9:06 p.m. My concern is that I was told my order would be ready in about 10-30 minutes, but I did not receive my food until 10:06 p.m. I remained patient and respectful the entire time, but there was no apology for the delay. Then, after getting home, I found the food once again overly salty to the point that it was difficult to enjoy. For the price paid, I expected better quality and customer service. I truly want to support Black-owned businesses, which is why I came back and gave the restaurant another opportunity. However, consistency, professionalism, and consideration for customers should remain the standard for everyone at all times. I hope this feedback is taken constructively, because there is definitely room for improvement in both service and food preparation.

We had the crab cakes and crab & artichoke dip for apps and our lunch entrees were the fried catfish sandwich with fries and the filet with mashed potatoes and collard greens. For bevvies, we tried their rosé and red zeppelin English ale. All of it, every bit and bite, was 10/10. Food breakdown: - Crab cakes: succulent lump crap meat within a lightly battered and flash fried coating. They come on a bed of arugula with a light dressing and dipping sauce for the cakes. Super yummy! - Crab & artichoke dip: ooey gooey deliciousness, perfect balance of cheese sauce too. You don't have to search for the crab or artichokes. And the fried naan chips were sliced long and thin, and could've been called naan fries actually. Perfect companion for the dip. - Fried catfish sammich: the piece of fish was huge and the batter was good. It came on Texas toast with fixins and tartar sauce. Won't lie, the only thing I wanted for was some hot sauce. That's a me problem... just gotta have hot sauce when I eat fried fish but I didn't ask for any while I was there (they may offer it) and still very much enjoyed the sandwich. - Filet: it was great... hubby got it medium and it arrived perfectly cooked. The Demi glaze sauce was so good and so were the sides. Their collard greens are seasoned up! I said does my auntie work here?! This cuisine is so comfortingly southern and didn't disappoint. Shoutout to our friendly and helpful server, Dan... our food and drinks came out quickly and so did our to-go box. His service was truly top notch. We have been living in Carmel for 5 years and this is one of the best restaurants here. If you're on the fence about trying this place, jump off and make a reservation. You won't regret it.

The pimento cheese dip was fine; closer to a nacho cheese dip. Both dips came with too few naan dippers to finish the dip (they charged extra for extra naan to finish the dip). - The cajun pasta was fine. Pasta was cooked well. I got it with chicken, which tasted good. The sauce was fine. - The hot honey chicken tenders were crispy, but lacked flavor. - The CBR chicken sandwich was good. Crispy and good size. - Do not order the side mac n cheese. $6 for some Stouffer's mac n cheese topped with the pimento cheese dip (that's basically nacho cheese dip). Overall, if someone asked to meet here for a meal I would request another restaurant but I'd still eat here if they insisted.

They have a very set menu that looks like it probably doesn't change often. We ordered Family Style Fried chicken which came with two sides (corn and mash potatoes/gravy), it also comes with a starter salad, beets and biscuits with apple butter and finishes with ice cream and they give you different toppings to put on top (Carmel, Strawberry and Chocolate) at your leisure. Needless to say we were stuffed walking out of that place. Everything was good, the food was hot and the service was wonderful. Not realizing how big the "sides" are, we ordered Mac and cheese and whew it is the biggest SIDE I have ever seen! A couple things: The salad, they only offer vinegar and oil which is not the table. You can request ranch but that's the only dressing they have. The salad doesn't have anything but iceberg lettuce and shredded carrots so don't expect a full fledge salad like you may be used to. That could not be more true. We both did Pick Two: I got a chicken salad sandwich and my mother got a turkey and cheese both with the soup of the day which was butternut squash. Soup was OK, sandwiches were OK. I got a side of chips (not made in-house) for $3. My daughter was upset when we arrived bc she was napping in the car and she proceeded to cry for about the first 10 minutes so, I walked around with her to calm her before I sat down since it's so cramped to try not to disturb everyone else. She was not happy the entire time so we were trying to calm her and feed her. Cake slices and cheesecake are $17-20 each. They're large but other reviews say dry and taste old. That's pricey. We skipped dessert at those prices based on the quality of the rest of our meal... I got an $8 peppermint mocha which was good but, served in the smallest teacup imaginable. It's extremely small inside. Like, uncomfortable. Granted, I had a lot of items with my baby and her and we were seated at a table for two with her in my lap but it was close quarters and the waitresses were squeezing between the chairs to walk around. They have about 6 tables inside with a small event private room in back. Our waitress was kind but, the manager or owner was off-putting. She went to every single table seated except ours to ask how their meal was and experience and, when time to pay, she wanted to personally ring me up to ensure we left in a hurry. I get it, some places are not meant for babies, but, since it's billed specifically to kids, I thought this was. Nope, I was wrong. (She's 19 months - so, too young for this bougie of an establishment clearly) I would not come back at all unless it was for my, older daughter to have a birthday cake experience and get a couple cute pics. As far as instagram-worthy goes, they know what they're doing. As far as quality of food. It's like a 2.5 stars. I wish we'd waited and walked into the larger one in Carmel and just shopped and got some cookies to go!
