There are special pop up greeting cards before the register, they are like gifting individual paper art & come in a mini and a regular square size. When I send someone a card I want them to know my appreciation so I seek out individualized cards for my recipient and if I can't find a card matching their personality I turn to quality stationary, you can't go wrong with thick, artistically patterned paper. The cards are located near the register after you have picked up & are ready to purchase the many items you had no idea existed or didn't need. Fun diversions like ceramic and metal tea services, interlocking sauce bowls, the same water goblets as the Four Seasons, chopsticks, charcuterie boards, kitchen implements... I'm continually enthused by the selection at World Market and I spent a fun time sifting through the ever rotating selection. I come here for the French milled soap which perfumes the room and has artistic wrapping, imported nicknacks and larger household decorations like rugs, they also have fun seasonal decorations. If you need a gift for someone and have no clue what to get them just walking through will give you inspiration. Went shopping on 11/16/22, around 1:00pm. There was an employee stocking inventory on the back shelf of the store. I was in an adjacent aisle, when I heard this employee coughing her lungs out. I peek around the corner and saw her a foot away from the items, coughing all over everything that she was stocking and not even attempting to cover her mouth! Ew! We make brief eye-contact, then I went back to shopping, thinking that perhaps it was just a one-time thing.....nope, there she was, coughing and hacking all over everything again. I talked to an employee about it. She was as concerned as I was and offered to have me talk to a manager about what I witnessed. I told her that I just wanted someone to tell that employee that she needs to cover her mouth when she coughs, but the employee insisted I speak with her manager. Boy, what a mistake that was... the manager came out, I tell her about what I saw and the first thing she said was, " just so you know, we're all heath screened before we start work". Uhhh, ok.... So it's okay to cough droplets out of your mouth, onto items that we're potentially going to buy, just because some person (likely not in the healthcare industry) screens you and says you're cleared to work...!?!? Hello....it's still gross! I'm not saying to wear a mask....heck, I'm not wearing a mask, but could you just NOT cough on the stuff we touch? Can you at least cover your mouth??? Love this store, hate that there are only 3 locations in san diego so I drive all the way from mission valley to la mesa just to shop here. Their products are one of a kind and high quality. Their prices are very reasonable when items go on sale and they frequently have coupons. Most recently I snagged a $360 chair for $160 out the door as they allowed me to stack my 30% off coupon on top of their furniture sale. I also find the most adorable trinkets and kitchen items. I am absolutely in love with my donut cookie jar and matching salt & pepper shakers. Love their jewelry as well and very fairly priced on the daily without a coupon. read more

This is one of my all time favorite stores . I've bought so many treasures here from home goods , purses , decorations, German chocolate and the list goes on and on . The selection is so varied it's a bunch of fun to see goods from all over the world . Top quality merchandise is what they sell here I can assure you . You can create such an awesome picnic basket or gourmet charcuterie board from the grocery side of the store . One of My traditions I started here was way back when my kids were little, shopping for the holidays like Christmas, Easter and Valentines for the exceptional unique candy I give to my daughters . Haven't been here in a while, but I have to say that I am just as happy as before. Luckily we didn't end up spending quite as much as last time we were here. I really love the wide variety of specialty items that they carry here. One of my favorite gifts to give during the holidays is a homemade gift basket with items from Cost Plus. Last night we just stopped in to browse and purchase a few items. FOund a few good deals. Our cashier was super friendly. I can't stand the Grossmont Center experience to begin with, a jungle of a mall with terrible parking. So to drive across town to visit this Cost Plus and deal with the other boneheads visiting WalMart next door on a weekend is an arduous journey. But I came because they were advertising 25% off everything in the kitchen section, which is great because I needed a lot of stuff for the kitchen. But as I started picking through the offerings, I noticed everything I wanted was actually not part of the sale. I was told that cutlery, for example, wasn't a kitchen item and thus not on sale, but utensils were. I guess that management at Cost Plus keeps their knives, forks and spoons in the bathroom. I don't have time to nitpick over every item, but when you have giant signs both indoors and out promoting everything in a certain section to be on sale, then please don't waste people's time and money when in fact there's only certain things in the promotion. This is why I'm spending more and more money these days on Amazon, etc. read more

Just about every time I come to the Grossmont Cost Plus / World Market store, I buy something. It's that kind of store. There is literally something for everybody here. You can make your home more distinctive, or you can buy gifts for people who are impossible to buy gifts for. The kitchenware department rivals IKEA for variety. And even price, on many items. Yes, you can find bargains here. I did today, in fact, a nice wicker end table marked way down. Gimme that ! I mean it was exactly what I was looking for, something I did not know until I saw it. It's that kind of store. They have excellent sales here, as well. Pay attention to the full-color sale flyer when it comes out, and you will find something nice, I promise you. This location does not have a lot of floor space, but it certainly has a lot of merchandise to gawk at. You simply cannot walk fast through this store, you need to slow down and just mosey along, looking right and left, and wondering why you don't have that thing, or this thing, or those things over there. It's that kind of store. The colors are striking in their intensity and variety. Cushions, chairs, tables, lamps, knick-knacks, everything has a spark of personality. The question is, is it your personality, or somebody else's? Only you can decide, and this is the place to do it. I'm a solid fan. read more

I went into the store on a Saturday to find a shower curtain. I found one in the clearance section, however, it still had the original price on it. I asked the cashier if it was in fact on sale, she said no that it was placed there by mistake.I decided against buying it as I prefer bargains. I stopped by a few days later and to my surprise my shower curtain was still located in the clearance section. I approached the same cashier and store manager. I wanted to say, "Remember me from the other day? Looks like you've made a BIG. I mean HUGE mistake". (Just like Julia Roberts did in Pretty Woman) =) Instead I said, " I was here a few days ago and was told that this item was not on clearance, though it was in the clearance section. Today it's in the clearance section again?". The manager agreed at that point to reduce the item by 50%. Though I'm glad I received my item at a discounted price, I'm appalled that service was not rendered initially. The cashier was too lazy to follow through. Unacceptable. read more

Ordered a $250 rug online and wasn't able to pay for it online because the quantity was low. I had to put it on hold and go into the store to pay for it. The female cashier told me to go around to the loading zone and that they would bring the rug out for me. I went over to the loading zone and rang the bell twice and just waited and waited. 10 minutes later I called the store and Mando told me the bell doesn't work and I was supposed to call so they could bring it out. A very rude sales associate brought my order to the curbside today. The curbside pickup area was occupied by a huge delivery truck, so I asked (by phone) where to park. The employee told me (she sounded very annoyed and didn't believe me when I told her the big truck left nowhere to park curbside), then she hung up on me when I tried to ask another question. When I circled around to park elsewhere, I saw a World Market employee walking away from me so I tapped my horn to let her know I was behind her (she was on the sidewalk so not a safety issue or anything). She marched over to the car and went just ballistic, telling me angrily NEVER to honk at her. (So she's a mind reader and knows exactly where I am when she doesn't even know what my car looks like?) Then she refused to tell me what the date was. She was obviously in a very nasty mood and taking it out on me. I used to like World Market for the occasional gift, but they've lost a customer for good. The pandemic and understaffing are NOT EXCUSES for crappy customer service and bad employee behavior. read more

This place is almost like Target for me in the sense that I always buy more than intended. Lots of cute furniture and homewares- most are reasonably priced. The snacks collection is amazing, I found British snacks that I remembered trying when I visited London a couple years back, and low and behold- Jammie Dodgers, stroop waffles and Cadbury chocolate galore. The wine and beer selection is pretty varied as well, and if you come when there's a sale, stock up! Today it was buy 4 bottles of rosé and get 40%, on top of that rewards members get 10% beer and wine every day. So saved a lot of money today on vino. read more

If you grew up in the 90s like me and always loved Canadian waters then you will love this place alone just because this is the only place that has them. I first came here for the flavored waters and fell in love with their amazing selections. You can buy drinks, food and candy from all over the world! Their furniture and house decor is so cute and pretty much anyone can find something you never knew you needed here. I couldn't find a certain candy i really wanted and asked a worker Michael for help. He showed me where they should be but they were sold out. He offered to take my info and call me when its back in Stock which never happens. Kim at the register was so super sweet! she hooked me up with their new text service and saved me money. I always find something when I come here! Be it foreign candy, my favorite wine, some stuff for my place, or even spa stuff, this place is amazing! I come here to find presents for people that I can't find anywhere else. Their stuff here is pretty exotic and really hard to find elsewhere. I love their selection of soaps and lotions too, especially the Balinese Jasmine and their Ylang Ylang. I like their wine selection way better than anywhere else (other than BevMo), and they offer really good pairings with their wines as well. They also sell hard to find beers & other spirits too. It's just that once you walk right out that door, you're back in Grossmont, and not in Thailand/Bali/Africa/Japan/Malaysia/Australia like you thought you were! read more

Adam and I have never heard of this store until we moved here so we were curious and made a trip and realized we struck gold finding this place. This location is perfect because we were able to get our weekly shopping done since it is by TJ's and Target and still stop here if we want anything for our home or even for snacks and wine. Being that is it in a large shopping area, it is also very easy to find parking. Practically everything you can think of for needing, and not needing but wanting, in your home is in here, some furniture too! This store is packed with home goods so it is hard to tell you what they have but some sections include: Candles, lamps, tables, kitchenware (dishes, glasses, pots, pans, decorations, aprons), curtains, blankets, baskets, bathroom goods (towel racks, mirrors, decorations), there is always a seasonal/holiday section in the middle, and to top it off, the back corner has a selection of wine and snack foods to eat along with the wine. Whew, that was a lot. You can seriously find anything that you may want or need and everything is so cute and the best part, it is all reasonably priced. Nothing that my husband and I have purchased was out of our price range. Yes, of course there are very expensive items in the store but there are also cheap and medium priced items. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. If you have any questions about any of the products there is someone there is answer and if you want to know where something is, someone will bring you to the item. They also do a great job at getting the cashier line moving quickly. Overall, my husband and I love this store. As a child, this (chain) was my absolute favorite store. It continues to impress with an eclectic selection of items that aren't found in most places. Of course it is not "true" to the various regions it imports from, but in most all cases, they work great as gifts, and they've got a fast snapshot of food items to put a little color into a gift, or a meal. The wine selection is decent, prices are OK to average (wait for sales!). Beer selection is just about the same, though beer prices are much higher than normal. I was a bit stressed out since I just started Christmas shopping and only have 3 days to buy everything. I decided to start out at Cost Plus and I'm glad I did. I must have looked lost because Celeste asked if she could help me. After talking to her she made some suggestions that worked out perfect. Then Michael saw a wine I selected and I was telling him how much I liked the bottle since it had a Castle painted on it. He took the time to explain something special about the wine - how when the artist painted the Castle he used Riesling instead of water - super cool. He also told me that the painting of the Castle on the bottle changes according to the season - I know I'll be back to collect them all. Celeste and Michael were not only friendly and helpful, but hilarious - I really appreciated how they made me laugh - it definitely lightened up a stressful day. Kudos to them. read more
