NOT to be confused with the now defunct Pier-One... but EXACTLY the same store!!! The branding, the colors, the products, the shelves.... this is exactly that old friend of mine in a new name! And loving the specialty items: Papasan Chairs, imported Soda's, funky furniture and carpets, little nik-nacks and shinny things. Staff was super helpful for my visit, we wanted some chairs for our dining room that were on sale, but they did not have enough in stock, so they ordered from the warehouse and we got them a week later, in their shipping boxes straight from Vietnam! Good quality, loving the chairs and the fabric and durability in a busy house with young kids and dogs. The cashiers at the front are working with REALLY old machines, so it is kind of frustrating to watch them, be frustrated in working that machine when like every other retail place has easy to use equipment. So checking out is sometimes a problem, but not the staff's fault, just poor equipment. I was super happy that they Manager honored a verbal commitment on some items I purchased and provided a discount as promised and made no excuses on my $2,000+ purchase. We joined the 'free' club and now get spammed with marketing material, but its OKAY, cuz I love going back and picking up more junk for the house! read more

Pricing is good compared to other stores. A nice variety of products and a big store too.

The cashier had her mask down on her chin the entire time I was there. She checked tons of people out like that. Her manager had to come over and help with my transaction and saw this...but did not say a word. I guess their mask policy is just corporate lip service but the stores could care less. read more

I'd have to agree with Chad on this one... there's a lot of stuff in here that you could get next door at BB&B... There are some pretty cool specialty stuff that the World Market does carry though: beer and wine selection as well as spices. I don't know if I would ever buy furniture from here... but maybe patio furniture. The do have a ton of kitchen stuff and cookware, pricewise very comparable to BB&B (if not better). If anything, this place is a cool place to kill time and get ideas. read more

I prefer this store over the one on South Blvd. The store essentially has the same layout and mostly the same merchandise, but this store just seems a little more inviting. The employees are friendly and helpful here. I love to stop in around the holidays to pick up cool European candies and good items. They have a pretty decent selection of beer, wine, coffee, and tea. I also like shopping here for unique gifts. You can put together really cool gift baskets with all the minature gourmet food items. read more

I'm a FAN of World Market PERIOD it's one of my FAVORITE places to go for everything from WINE to FURNITURE to specialty FOODS and household items. I thoroughly Enjoy the wine tastings and always find a new bottle to take home after tasting. The customer service at this location is pretty stellar, we were immediately acknowledged upon entry and the wine tasting station host was so informative and was very nice seeing as how we entered the store at 3:57pm and the tasting ends at 4:00pm and she still invited me over to taste some wine and chat as my husband and son picked up the items we came in for. This store was clean and well organized. The staff was fairly friendly (5 out of 7 were) and knowledgable of the store promotions and the what's what what around the store. While in the area I will be sure to stop in to this location again as its next to Costco and that's my place to be most of the time. read more

We just spent an hour in this store preparing to purchase a sofa, coffee table, lamp, chair, pillows and rugs. After waiting for the girl to bring items out of the back room and deciding what to do about a sofa not in stock (and backordered for a month!) and they were refusing to sell us the floor model; the store manager came and said some lady purchased the chair we were sitting in and buying. We told her we were purchasing it and the sales girl was standing right there who had checked on it for us. The manager could have cared less and let us walk out of her store purchasing nothing. One of the most unprofessional, inconsiderate experiences I have ever had. She shouldn't be a cashier, let alone the manager. Shameful. read more

I bought a chair from World Market, unfortunately it did not come With instructions. I unsuccessfully attempted to put the chair together. I brought the chair back to store to ask for help. Whitney was very understanding. She was super helpful, actually went above and beyond. Took the chair apart and reassembled for me with a smile. She turned this frustrating situation around. Whitney has excellent customer service and a positive attitude. Highly recommend this store! read more

I was in need of several items only available at your store to send in a "care package " to elderly parents I'm unable to visit due to Covid. I looked online and could not find what I wanted there.The young lady who answered the phone in the store at Sycamore Square Matthews NC and unfortunately whose name I did not get took the time to go through the store and find the items for me. World Market is so much fun. I have a great time finding things in the food section from other countries. They have a great wine selection and I almost always buy a new wine to try from here. They also have beautiful home decorations, although they are a bit pricey for me. Be on the lookout for the clearance sections, they hide some great buys there. The employees are always very nice and helpful, and definitely keep me coming back here. Be sure to join their shopper rewards program. You are sent coupons, and can sometimes get a % off in store. read more

This place is an interesting, ecclectic collection of things ranging from furniture, to fake plants, to groceries - all of which are quite pretentious. Many, if not all of the items have international flare, presumably the driving force behind the store's name, and many of the items are hard-to-find elsewhere. It's not cheap to shop here, but that's the price you pay for exclusivity. They also have an option to sign up for their World Market rewards program that will save you 10% on your first purchase, which would definitely come in handy if you're in the market for an antique looking piece of furniture. Overall, it's a fun store, with lots of nifty things to look at. Much of what's there appears to be of high quality as well, so certainly a nice place to visit on a rainy day. read more

This place is like an upscale Homegoods. They sell everything from jewelry to wall decor to beer/wine to glass and tableware. A lot of the items are priced a bit steep... but they are of good quality. However... as others have commented, you can find a lot of this stuff next door at the Bed Bath and Beyond. Fun to walk around in... but usually a bit outside of my price range. read more

World Market is a HUGE distraction for woman. This is a layer of hell for husbands. Every time I come here I am totally distracted. It's like a Pier One but with food, cookware, and wine! I love coming here on Saturday afternoons for the wine tastings. Also, they have some great ethnic food items. Interesting story... my coworker was looking for pez refills for his daughter's pez dispenser and literally could not find them anywhere... guess who had an entire end cap of pez? World Market. World Market is the type of place where you'll find out of the ordinary items. Are you looking for a teeny tiny packet of brie or nutella? Well you'll find it at WM. More than a furniture store, lots of interesting bits, from coffee to wine. Lots of spices, olive oil, pasta etc etc, more than I want to type.. LOL. Many great deals but not on everything so keep your eyes open. There used to be one of these on our side of town, but it closed..boo. I would have given this 5 stars but they make us drive across town now. After hearing of the closing of the University City location, I took the trek down to Matthews for some quick gifts for some visiting company. The location is a bit far from where I live, and the area is a bit confusing to navigate. I made it to the store, but only after some weird traffic events! The store was similar to other locations. Neat things are spread about the store in a weird trader's market style. This location, however, was not as tidy as I had experienced at other stores. The shelves seemed to be well rummaged, and things were strewn about the floor. It seemed that they could use a couple days to get the store back into a sensible order. They had some great stuff for sale; interesting snacks and soaps from around the world. Their prices were on par with other locations. They had quite a bit of inventory, which I'm sure contributed to the cluttered atmosphere. As other reviews mention, being next to a BB&B is more of a challenge for the consumer, as there is a sense of redundancy going on. read more

I'm usually in this store once a year, around Christmas time. I go in search of marzipan. I must say, I've been successful every time! That's a plus for my wife since she's the marzipan fan. This place does have a ton of different things from furniture to beer to European candies. If you are looking for that "this reminds me of home" type gift for your well traveled friends, this place should be on your must visit list. read more

I do love this store, although it can be really slow moving in the lines. Any who you can buy anything from any where most of the time you get something you wish you didn't, this time I got some Hawaiian kettle style chips. Not what I expected, because they're really no different then cape cod chips, but the more I eat them the more I fall in love with them. Totally disappointed... I used to love Cost Plus but they have dropped the ball several times with customer service on the last 4 attempts. I had a major issue returning online purchase at the store, I tried using "reward points" and they wouldn't work, then when I called Customer Support the young man named DeAngelo was nice but told me I would have to just buy what I wanted and try to get credit with my reward points. After I told him that was in acceptable, he gave a mediocre last attempt and then just hung up on me... after 45 minutes. I have complained and sent emails. When surveyed about my customer service experience I wrote a long polite and honest review and have never heard anything from anyone at any time. This is my last interaction with this company... very sad... oh well. read more

I bought a cute white desk from here. I had to get the one on the floor because they were out of them in the back but its great because I was looking for a white antique looking desk for my computer and this would work because it had some scratches. I love the desk, it is perfect. The store is big and lots of cute things and wine! The two people who took the desk apart for me and put it in my car were super nice and helpful. I did not get to see everything in the store because I found the desk too quick, but i will go back! read more

Bought a Desk with imperfections, called them the next day and Amanda helped me through the process. I didn't have to return the whole thing just the top of the desk which is great since it was heavy. The manager Bill saw the imperfections, and he was very nice and apologetic. I told him that I just moved to the area and have been keeping an eye on this desk but missed the sale by a couple days. They gave me 15% off for my troubles. The staff was really nice for helping me load and unload and get discount! I definitely would come back here again as I love their furnitures and random household stuff. read more

This is a fun store to look around in, but the prices are entirely too high. You can find similar products for better prices at TJ Maxx or Marshalls. The only thing I've ever purchased out of there have been unusual/fun food items for Christmas gifts. Fun store, but not worth the high prices. read more
