I love this store so much. I come in sometimes for something specific, like coffee or a gift. Sometimes I just walk around and see what talks to me. I don't blow my money, so I come sometimes and don't even buy anything. There is just so many different types of things and food and drinks and jewelry that you may find something you didn't even know you needed. The snacks and food options are amazing. Kooky international cookies and sweet and random flavors of foods and drinks, it's just a wonderland of cool random things. The prices can be ridiculous so you have to choose wisely. Sometimes the staff can be a little absent, meaning they don't really seem like they want to interact with us. I get it, retail sucks. And not every one of them is distant, there are some real gems in there too. I just love this place and I hope it doesn't succumb to rent hikes or loss of sales and it disappears. read more

Wow, this is the best World Market I've ever been to. Who would've known! I stopped by this past weekend and was impressed by the massive size of both the parking lot and inside of the store. The whole place was clean and organized, and the shelves were stocked full of awesome and unique products on a Saturday morning. I picked up some laceys almond & dark chocolate toffee wafer cookies, sonoma creamery parmesan and cheddar crisps, and keogh's irish potato chips with real irish butter. And after browsing all of the easter-themed goodies, I couldn't resist getting a bag of kitkat bunnies as well. A worker saw my arms full and offered to get me a basket (he ran all the way to the front of the store and back). The care and effort shown was definitely appreciated. Customer service altogether was outstanding. I was greeted with a smile at entry, checked on multiple times by different employees while shopping, and my transaction at the purchase counter was quick and easy, with two employees opening up additional registers as they saw a line forming. I usually have a positive experience at World Market regardless of location, but based on my recent visit the Oakland store is superior in every way! read more

Cost Plus World Market, Oakland. One of my favorite places to shopping has always been Cost Plus World Market, located in the heart of Jack London Square, Oakland. This place always surprises me with new stuff they have in store! Whether I'm looking for furnitures, snacks or new teas from around the world to try, this is the place to be! I was very surprised to find Hello Kitty and Friends, Sanrio and Gudetama here!! I'm super excited to add this to my list! One of my favorite things to find here are Bon- Bon candies, it reminds me of high school days where they did fundraisers every year! Super nostalgic! This location has been here since the late 1990s. This is one of my go-to places where I grab snacks for the movies around the corner. This place is a hidden gem!! World Market is the fun adult playground equivalent for shopping, and I dropped by here after shopping at the Jack London Square holiday market (Joy to the Town) super close by to pick up more gifts. Nice size, not as large selection as other World Markets especially on the furniture side, but you'll find all the World Market goodies here (furniture, international foods, alcohol). Good sized parking lot for the store size and the store has a typical World Market semi-maze experience so you can barely navigate a shopping cart through some aisles. Staff were friendly, and thankfully directed me to where I could find Terry's Chocolate Oranges which I wanted to buy as a gift before I needed to dash to my ferry. Cashier was great in the same way Trader Joes cashiers are, and checkout was a breeze. Yes, you'll find some of their goods at a cheaper price in other stores, but no store does it like World Market with everything all in the same place all at once. read more

Dropped by to check out their end of Christmas sale at 60% off & was welcomed by a plethora of Chinese New Year items in the front. For the after Christmas sale items I ended up buying a Nutcracker stocking for my 3.5 yr. old Schnauzer & a tin of Harney & Sons Celebration tea that has Apricot, hazelnut, cinnamon, and spice. This tea was a Hanukkah edition curated tea blend, so I'm excited to try it out. In preparation for Chinese New Year on Feb.17,2026 the Year of the Horse, I bought a bag of Lucky candy. It was hard not to buy the special new year tea's like Whittard's Peach Oolong or Lucky Lychee black tea or Harney & Sons 2026 Chinese New Year of the Horse, but I refrained bc I have so many other teas at home to finish. Customer service was great when I had questions regarding the tea's & about my membership status. Time for an update. Just noticed not one picture was linked. For sure it is time for an update. Quality/Quantity - Back in the day this was my go-to place for exotic wines, beers, and bulk candy. My wife's go-to place for stuff... So everyone was happy. A win win. This is just a great place to shop or "window shop." I just feel like a kid when I'm here, discovering new things and new foods. If I was not on another health kick, I would have stocked up on those new varieties of Honolulu Cookies and Haribo Candies! Atmosphere - Clean and organized. Open 7 days a week from 10am to 8pm, and on Sundays from 11am to 6pm. Free and plenty of private parking. Service - Like your concept, sold at cost + 10%. This used to be the Costco model. Always plenty of employees if you need help. Price - Depends on what you buy. But in my opinion, they are reasonably priced. Earl (the manager?) was amazingly kind. I've never been to this store before but definitely would love to come back! I had placed an online order for pickup, and decided to browse a bit before going to the online order pickup desk. Earl saw me wandering and asked if he could help, which led him to bring out one of the 6 chairs I bought so I could try it out first before taking the full order home. What was even more incredible was that all my items apparently had been discounted even further since the date of purchase, so Earl processed the price adjustment right then and there, before bringing everything out on a dolly to help me load my car. My favorite cost plus in the area, huge and full of furniture (cute couches, chairs, rugs, etc), tons of snacks from Asia and all over, and aesthetic home decor. Seasonal items, right now in summer it's strawberry. Mochi cake mixes, unique jams great for matcha drinks, etc. Perfect matcha glasses and stuff for the home. Came in on a Tuesday night around 6:30pm trying to do some holiday shopping. Compared to other world markets that I've been in, this store seemed like they didn't have as much stuff. However, we were able to find things that we needed. We unfortunately were those people who shopped until the last minute. It was 8:01 and I would've totally understood and felt well deserved if the staffs were annoyed with us (I would've been!). Our cashier Inga was the nicest person ever. She was so delightful and was completely calm and sweet when we apologized profusely for going over their closing time. She wrapped the breakables carefully and helped us look for coupons. First time here - I was greeted by a nice gentleman working at the front desk- I saw another woman with her leashed dog so I asked do you allow dogs? He said yes! We love dogs you can bring them in! So I went to get them from the car. I came to this location specifically (I have never been to any) looking for something specific I couldn't get at the closer location or online. My dogs were leashed a 100% behaved. They never barked at anyone in fact I was only really near one person one time for half a second. Maybe in the store 10 mins MAYBE... I was shopping and looking at something and a very rude old lady with long hair appeared from a distance with another customer saying "we require dogs to be on a short leash, I don't like dogs and some other people also don't like dogs and i replied with they are on an appropriate 6ft leash they are quiet and standing by me, "yeah I know but I don't like dogs and I need to go where u are" I said well you didn't need to be rude and you could just say you need to look at something near by, in fact she didn't actually need to go where I was, I was looking at pillows and she wanted to look at the furniture behind her. With that I told her to have a great day and I sat my stuff down and left and I unfortunately won't return. I too was a paying shopping customer who asked permission to bring her dogs who were behaving into the store and was treated rude and disrespectfully just because said employee doesn't like dogs. I'm sorry but perhaps you shouldn't work somewhere dogs are welcome and maybe you are the actual problem and could use a dog in your life. I love coming here and looking at all of the unique decorations, furniture, alcohol and food/snacks from different countries. The store is always clean. So far customer service has been great. There is a good amount of parking right outside I have purchased furniture from here in the past and it was great quality - real wood :) With that being said I have on a number of times seen their products at other stores for at least half the price. Great options but prices are outside of my comfort zone read more

So I feel like I must be the first person to not know how amazing this store actually is. I walked in here and fell in love with this place! My husband and I walked around the entire store like giddy little kids that were on a treasure hunt for goodies. This place did not disappoint from the things to see, touch, smell and even taste! Yep they offered a free taste of their coffee on the way in or out. I can't say too many good things about this place. The staff is so friendly and helpful! Erin helped us a great deal because we were looking for specific keto type foods and she was nice enough to look them up on her phone finder thingy and walk us around the store until we found the items we were looking for. It was a really great experience to have such nice Customer service reps on hand that don't make you feel rushed or like your messing up their work flow. Honestly all the staff is that way. Again, I'm a bit older so my appreciation may have grown. I appreciate the fact that they are a lot more spacious inside. Some of the things seem to have moved around a touch. But we found some things rather easily. I was in the area and sent my hubby here to look around while I picked up something across the street. I joined him and browsed and I'm glad. My favorite find is a coffee cup that said, "I'm dreaming of a diverse christmas." My second was a bit of xmas chocolates. But my husband walked away with a brand new tagin. He was super happy. I know why we visited this store so much when we lived in Oakland and I look for an opportunity to visit, next time I'm in the area. read more

If I could give zero stars for this store, I would. I was in the store today and just browsing, as it's usually a fun store to browse. I had also been told by a friend that CPWM had delicious gluten free pasta so I went in to look for that as well. When I walked in, I wasn't greeted but noticed that everyone else who came into the store was greeted. I also noticed that all of the white people that came in were asked if they needed help finding anything and I was completely ignored. I'm a black, professional woman and I was treated very poorly. I want to specifically call out the white woman who was my cashier who looked at me with suspicion when I asked her to look up the cost of a shower curtain that was in a PLAIN and CLEAR non branded plastic bag. This shower curtain was also in the CLEARANCE section. When I asked for someone to assess the price (which was full price??) she called a manager, an Asian man (likely East Asian) who proceeded to be just as rude to me stating that the shower curtain in the non branded, plain ziploc bag was in clearance "on accident." These folks were complete jerks to me and I cannot imagine a white person would have been treated the same. I will never set foot in this store again. read more

South African foods- amongst other things I love coming to Cost Plus world market for certain South African foods and British foods. They usually have the Ceres Juices, chocolates, Aero bar, fruit pastilles , shortbread and other lovely snacks. I came here the day before Thanksgiving and surprised my family with goodies ! This is a great store with friendly and helpful sales staff, it always has a clean layout, open parking spaces and it's never too busy. If my whole apartment could come from Cost Plus that would be ideal, especially if my salary allowed for that. A girl can dream...I mainly shop here any time I need something new to decorate my apt with seasonally or in the rare case when I'm looking for a new piece of furniture, candle holder, picture frame, etc. They have such nice home furnishings and accessories in an array of modern and eclectic styles, including my particular ultra-femme shabby chic-vintage style. Lots of things are hand made and seasonal so its cool that purchases are one-of a kind. They have a large wine selection and excellent prices (the buy one get one wine deal can't be beat). I also come here when I am looking for hard-to-find international foods like Risotto or good anchovy paste. I'm obsessed with their glasses and seasonal dishes! Housewares are perfect for dinner parties and their Christmas ornaments are easily keepsakes forever. Oh boy, what a joy! I absolutely love Cost Plus World Market. This store brings me the most happiness while shopping. Even if I have nothing I want to buy, I will find some yummy-looking foreign chocolate or some good smelling unique soap made out of goat's milk or some Indian loose leaf tea or some new gadget I can use in the kitchen... I mean, I just love this store. This location specifically is wonderful, and I really enjoyed my shopping experience when I went here last week. They even have their own private parking lot so you don't have to worry about parking on the street. All of the employees are also incredibly kind and helpful. They have really good rapport with many "regulars" and I loved seeing the interactions between customer and employee. Saw a demonstration online about Jerk Chicken Wings. It was interesting until the cook didn't want to share the marinade recipe. Huh? What's the point? Asked around and it was suggested I try Walkerswood Jerk Sauce. Found it here! Plenty of parking. Not too crowded. I was told that the Pleasanton store will be closing this month. I didn't look around too much since I ordered food to go at Belcampo. And here's my recipe which didn't take a chef to tell me how! Rub Jerk sauce with a little EVOO on the chicken and allow to marinate overnight. Place chicken over direct heat on your grill and brown on all sides. Remove chicken to In-direct heat or bake off in the oven at 350 degrees and allow to finish cooking (30-45mins). I tossed some more sauce on and garnished with green onions. read more

Attentive staff, well stocked shelves and a personality packed building make this a must stop before the holidays. Having just left the Walnut Creek and Pleasanton stores pretty much empty handed the day before I was in the middle of a thorough hunt for some very specific holiday cookies from Germany that only this Oakland store carried so late in the game. It was so interesting to see the different quantities and products available at each so close before Christmas. I was surprised to see everything in stock - including my favorite cookies - all in abundant supply. I grabbed a bunch of everything eagerly and before I knew it an employee handed me a basket given I was having difficulty juggling everything. Besides the very attentive help here I also enjoyed the personality packed building in some of Oakland's most prime real estate. Cost Plus World Market is such a great addition to the Jack London Square/Oakland area. I worked adjacent to this great shop, and I am so grateful for it being there. It has saved me multiple times for last-minute birthday and holiday gifts, for when somebody wants to spontaneously hang and I want to bring Wine that is not from BevMo, for when I want a snack, and for cute knick-knacks or games for my nephews and nieces. They also have had many fun and interactive events, such as scavenger hunts where you can win $10-$20 same-day use gift cards. If you sign up to be a member, you can also get text alerts of freebies of the day. Through the sign up, I have gotten small things like containers of olive oil, a necklace (for my niece), candy, and mugs. What I appreciate the most is that they carry most items that you cannot find at any other shop that is from around the world. read more

Love Cost Plus World Market! It's one of my favorite places to shop. It provides a little of everything; it has wall art, mirrors, various abstract greeting cards, unique bath towels, candles, furniture, lamps, dishes, table settings, wine, and much more. I love different and unique things, so if you're looking for a variety of uncommon trinkets, this is the place. It's comparable to Pier 1 Imports with a little Tuesday Morning and Homegoods flow, all-in-one. Customer service is great and the cashier, Lou, is my favorite. Another thing, if you find something that you like, and it's out of stock, they'll always order it for the advertised price (even if on sale), and it can be delivered to you or picked up in store. They can sometimes be pricey, but they have great sale days. Check them out and look for Lou! She's helpful and genuine. read more

WHEN: Thursday @6:30pm During Covid-19 times they are open everyday 11am-7pm. Half an hour is plenty of time to check the whole place out! I came to check out some dining chairs in person. I'm happy they have plenty of items on the show floor. During covid they have the aisles set up as one way direction. The store wasn't busy nor crowded and it's quite spacious. The staff all wear masks and there are hand sanitizers. Parking is plenty, and when I went there was an additional 10% off online orders with curbside pickup. Too bad the chairs I was going to buy are too big for me to pick up. Anyway, after seeing the chairs in person, I've ordered my chairs online and they arrived in a week! I've been here twice, once because I was specifically buying rose syrup for a gift, and the second time because I wanted to browse and buy a new cast iron teapot; in both cases I was able to look up the desired products on their site ahead of time and fortunately both times, the World Market website was correct about the products being in stock. I also ended up buying things I didn't originally come in to buy each time, like additional floral and fruity syrups that can be added to drinks, chocolate (they have some brands of chocolate both from the US and from other countries that are less common in US supermarkets and some flavors are that less common), and snacks. I appreciate the food selection there as there are sweet and savory snacks, so I bought some indomie (an Indonesian instant noodle pack), assorted cookies, and Haribo watermelon gummies. I would say the majority of the store is dedicated to home goods and furnishings, though. The wait time was very minimal for checkout, and the second time the cashier was friendly and patient and let us know of the option to sign up for the World Market rewards program, providing clear instructions on how to sign up on the phone and then instantly use a 15% off coupon. This isn't the best place for everything and the quality varies, but generally it's a good store for unique and unusual product. I wouldn't necessarily buy furniture here, but I do come for unique food items, baskets and small kitchen utensils and containers, and gift wrap and cards. Recently I decided that since this has been such a sucky year for all of us sending holiday greeting cards to everyone would be a nice, perhaps uplifting, gesture. Like many I dropped off the tradition in recent years but this is the year to bring it back! I scoured online from MOMA, SFMOMA, Amazon and even the Met Museum and came to World Market to find a real nice selection of cards. And I know their quality is always good. I found a couple I liked, got approval from my 'better half' and ordered four boxes. Plus, they had a deal for 15% off for curbside pickup. Perfect! But it was only good until that day so I got the order in right away. Confirmation came back right away with detailed instructions about what to do at pickup. All went orderly, with efficient, clear organization, and I was pleased. Drove down, followed instructions and a very personable woman brought the order out to load it in the car. Worst customer service from HQ. (My local store is awesome.) I emailed them perhaps June 13 or 14 to see if my order was ready for pick up. I got no reply so I went to the store to try my luck. I'm glad I got my order because the store is about 30 minutes from my place. Then life went on as normal...
