We spent $20 per person and we got unlimited rides throughout the SDCC weekend. Some trolley stops have parking where you can leave your car parked for free and you can just hop on the trolley, however many do not. Regardless, the trolley is definitely helpful if you don't want drive and rather avoid parking fees. My favorite line is the Blue Line as it's less congested and covers a lot of DT San Diego, all the way to San Ysidro! I took the line from E street and it dropped me off at 12th and Imperial which wasn't too far from the Hilton next to the Convention Center. The Green Line was cool too but it's arguably the most popular route as it takes you directly to Old Town, the Convention Center, Seaport and other major destinations. Just be prepared to wait before you can actually board as odds are they'll be packed from door to door.

I caught the 3rd one. It took me to 12 Th and Imperial where I boarded the Orange Line and rode to the to the El Cajon Transit Station. My ride was fairly quick, though not near as quick as the drive back once I bought the van. I was grateful that as a senior I rode for $1.25 one way. The ride was comfortable, with nice seats and I especially appreciated that the AC wasn't blasting cold air on me.Overall a great experience. I'm considering buying a senior pass and taking busses and trolley to save on gasoline costs.

The station itself is older but that gives it some charm. If you're coming here thinking you're going to have a whole bunch of food options, think again. There's one little kiosk with a guy selling a few sandwiches and coffee. Honestly though the kiosk guy was great, really friendly even early in the morning. I wasn't exactly sure how this whole thing worked since I'm not from here, but the attendant was nice and explained that my train would have a line up starting 20 minutes before boarding, then we'd all board together. If you're taking a train out of here I'd give yourself extra time and bring your own food (but stop by the kiosk guy for a coffee, he's a delight).

The Santa Fe Depot serves Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner service, the MTS Trolley, and regional Coaster…read moretrains. This review is of the station facility and not any of the rail services. The Santa Fe Depot was built by the bygone railroad of that name. I'm old enough to remember the advertising slogan "Ship and travel Santa Fe--all the way!" This is one of relatively few major railway stations that have both been preserved largely in their original form, and continue to serve rail passengers. It is a beautiful Mission-style building from the early 20th Century, and will give you a feel for what rail travel was like in its heyday. Gorgeous tile work and some nice landscaping make this a great place to wait for a train. (Search "Santa Fe Depot (San Diego)" on Wikipedia for more on its history and architecture.) For Amtrak passengers, this is a staffed station with ticketing and checked baggage services. Amtrak staff are courteous and helpful. The waiting room is large and has plenty of old-style bench seating. There is a designated waiting area for seniors and people with disabilities needing assistance in boarding. There are restrooms, but Amtrak often has difficulty in keeping unhoused people from making a mess or using the facilities for things other than immediate relief. So at times, not everyone will find them comfortable to use. In addition to the Trolley, the Santa Fe Depot is also served by several MTS bus lines. There is a paid parking lot run by a third-party provider. No free parking nearby. There is a small kiosk--the Silver Streak Cafe--selling food and drink. See my separate review.

The reason for the charge was in part, to make it a more efficient service. HA! More efficient my ass! It was a hot day. We weren't going far. About one mile. From Broadway downtown to near Petco Park. 1st attempt. Driver Kevin was 3 minutes away. Before he got any closer, he canceled the ride. 2nd attempt. The driver (didn't catch the name this time) was 3 minutes away. That driver also canceled. 3rd attempt. Gabriel was 4 minutes away. Then 3 minutes. Then 2. Then back to 3. What? Then jumped to 5 minutes away. Nope. F*ck it. This time I canceled. We walked and arrived in less time than we waited for Circuit to never show up. They canceled on us twice, then the third driver kept getting further away. Ridiculous. I left a comment on the app voicing my displeasure. As expected, I did not receive a response.

My only gripe is that I wish I would have known about it earlier, lol. The app was easy to use and book a ride. When I first loaded it up, I thought it wasn't working, but it was just that the ride window had not started yet (it starts taking rides at 7am, and I was looking at 6:50a). I was able to book a ride immediately and it gave me a waiting time of about 3 minutes. The wait time was not entirely accurate, as it ended up being closer to 10 minutes. But, once I was picked up, it was smooth sailing. I even had my luggage with me, and while it was tricky, I was able to fit it all in the vehicle. Driver was super friendly, too. Because this is totally free, and worked for my needs, I'm giving it five stars. But this is not a good service if you are in a hurry or are particular about how you want to travel. It was an open-air vehicle, which meant no windows and no A/C. We also stopped to pick someone else up so you won't necessarily get a direct ride. If that's important to you, you should get an Uber or Lyft instead. It also does NOT go to the airport, so you will need a rideshare for that. Also, I used this service in the early morning. I can't speak for during peak times. But for back and forth from the convention center in the early morning, it was perfect. And since everything else in SD is so expensive, I'll take whatever savings I can get.
