Except now, everything old is new again, and this record store actually has more records than anything else. So if you are a record collector, this is your place. They have new and used records, as well as quite a lot of CDs, cassettes, used DVDs, comic books and some records players and headphones for sale. It was my oldest son's idea to visit, because he loves record stores, and is proving to have impeccable taste in music. (He gets it from his mom.) He loves rap and hip-hop the most, and was a little disappointed that there weren't more albums by his favorite artists. I told him that I think album collecting tends to skew more toward rock and pop listeners, and people who listen to rap and hip-hop listen more digitally. That's my theory, but in any case, you should know that the hip-hop section is small. But the rock and pop section is large. This record store is a decent size, and in fact, there's a sign outside that says that they will soon be expanding. My son thought that the store was huge, but bless his ignorant heart: He didn't grow up going to the country's greatest record store, Amoeba Records in Hollywood, like I did. This is no Amoeba, but there's no place like Amoeba, and for a record store in central Indiana, Indy CD and Vinyl is really great. Two neat things about Indy CD and Vinyl: They have video games and pinball machines that you can play at the back of the store (for a couple of quarters). They also have a listening station, where you can scan the barcode of an album and listen to it before you buy it. It wasn't working when we visited, but that's cool that they offer that. No one in my household actually owns a record player, CD player or cassette player, so our visit was merely to look around and imagine the things we would buy if we had analog media players. My son did get a Tyler The Creator poster, though, so he was happy.

My husband and I recently acquired a record player so we have been slowly building our collection up and they had all kinds of albums that you cant hardly find and if you do they want and arm and a leg for them. They were selling all of theres for under 10 bucks a pop. They had other stuff inside too like clothing and used guitars.

I popped into Karma Records after a few times driving by it. Who knew where was such a slapper of a…read morerecord store on the east side? Apparently, many people knew, because Karma has been around since 1970, and it's the oldest record store in Indianapolis. OK! I'm obviously late to the game. Usually, I visit record stores just to browse, but this time, I visited to find a specific album. But when I asked the kind people behind the counter to look up the album for me, I found out the album that I had in mind was actually out of print! So I could order it online, but it would cost like five hundred dollars or some obscene amount. The helpful people at Karma offered to order other albums by the same artist. But I didn't want that, and instead just browsed the selection of records that Karma. There are a lot of records here. Surely, if you're not dead set on a specific out-of-print record like me, you will find something here. They also have CDs. And the cool people at Karma are willing to order whatever you want (assuming it's not out of print), and it will show up at the shop a few days later. Man, you didn't ask, but this place smells like incense, I tell you what. Which is appropriate, I guess, because they sell incense here. I just mention in case you're sensitive to incense.

They have a wide selection of vinyls that highlight all genres. It is perfect for a quick date or time with friends or anyone who loves music. Jonathan helped as at the bar & he was really cool. They serve coffee, beer & seltzers. They have a stage for live music & host different events. The highlight for me was the private booths that you can sit in & listen to your record. My only suggestion would be creating booths for groups of a larger size. Maybe something accommodating for groups of 3-4? Overall, it's a cute experience. I need to figure out how to balance my need for minimalism and my love of music and albums. If you know me, you'd think that I would be a vinyl collector, but no. Where am I to put all of these things in my home? Instead, I like to visit vinyl stores and feel the energy of being surrounded by great albums. CTYZN Records has some great albums. I saw Minor Threat, Sonic Youth and lots of others. The pickin's are slim as of when I visited, but the owners mentioned that they're reorganizing and adding new things, so I'm sure there will be more inventory soon. They do have some great jazz albums, if you like jazz (and you should). You'll also find cassette tapes, CDs, Cracked comics and MAD Magazine issues, and VHS tapes (Run, don't walk, to get your copy of Sister Act.) The store is located on the far west side of downtown Carmel. There is street parking, and also parking in the neighborhood across the street. I guess they are also a music venue, and they have all-ages shows in their shop. That's really cool! I love that CTYZN Records exists! We need more places like this in Carmel.

Everything was set up nicely and it was much brighter and cleaner. They don't have as many vendors but some like the record stall is the same. They have a good amount of parking and 2 or 3 designated spots right out front. Be aware the new address is 170 W Carmel Drive. The Kirby Building. I sent the info to Yelp but they have yet to change the info, even with a photo of the sign posted with the new the location.

I was tempted by a pair of salt and pepper shakers but ultimately did not make a purchase. If you are searching for something in particular I suggest you pay a visit to the Antique Emporium and visit the Carmel Antique Mall as well since it is nearby. Both times I was there, one employee was sitting at the desk available for assistance. The parking lot has ample parking. I am not sure of the future of the strip mall since I believe the nearby strip mall with SoHo cafe is closing Dec 30 permanently and slated to be demolished.

Nothing against that if that's you're thing, but it usually means they only carry your typical calcites and rose quartz, usually polished. I wanted the raw, rare stuff. Well, if you want old-school and no-frills, Jox Rox is exactly that. It looks abandoned from the outside and is dirty inside. It's the smell of nature, baby! Dozens of drawers to thumb through and find specimens - check out the malawi agates! Some real gems in the cabinets as well. Picked up myself a gorgeous large vanadinite crystal and a terminated watermelon tourmaline that would have easily run me twice as much back home.

Today, they are among the most knowledgable of Indiana geology in the state. Their shop is not fancy, but is packed with fossils, minerals, jewelry findings, supplies, books and much, much more. You can find specimens from all over the world. Prices are fair and Phil will take the time to educate you on just about any rock topic. The shop is also a good place to learn about rock shows and local clubs. Phil is a founding member of the Indiana Society of Paleontology. If you're into rocks, you must stop in to Jox Rocks. It's right next to the Dairy Queen on Franklin Road in a converted convenience store.
