A very decent bagel place in Ridgewood. The bagels may lack the slightly darker crispier exterior of a true NYC boiled and baked, but otherwise they are nicely fresh and have an appealing sweetness. Coffee, toppings, and decor all pleasantly not trying too hard, although the tables are often uncleaned. I've read some complaints about the service. Occasionally weird things will happen like you'll place and order and then the guy will stop midway and take someone else's order and start working on that, and you have to remind the guy to keep working on yours. Only the tall guy does that. Order from the short guy, he's good and has gotten faster, and order *properly*: what bagel, toasted or not, what topping, the end. I decided to check this place out since it's close to my house. I never did before because it doesn't look like much from the front and I was right! I found this place to seem dirty. The lox looked like it was there a Really Long Time! So did the flavored cream cheeses! I would rather get a bagel from the corner Bodega or drive to Hot Bagel on Metropolitan. read more

Bagels are excellent and the coffee is simply amazing -- better than Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks (they use a local brand, Hillier Gourmet Coffee Co). There's often a line here because the bagels are so tasty and you have to come in the morning if you want your special niche flavor because by noon all the have left is plain and everything bagels. I come here every single day without except, rain or snow, New Year's Day or Christmas, for my coffee-and-bagel fix. Sometimes I stop by a second time just to get a second or third coffee. read more

I give Mr. Bagel 3 & 1/2 stars. It's a decent bagel store. Although they aren't authentic bagels, they are good nonetheless and make them on premises. It gets crowded in the early hours obviously. They close early. They can make a lot more business if they stayed open a little longer. When the guy in the back is making the bagels, he keeps the door open. Not very sanitary, especially in the warmer months. They have delicious muffins. The french toast and cranberry and orange are the best. They don't carry large quantities of what they sell. Be it bagels, muffins, etc. Their egg salad is yummy. The guys that work there are...uhh..irritating. Went there yesterday to get my usual egg salad and tomato on a bagel. One guy asked if I wanted jalapeno on it. I thought it was a good idea so I said yes. He said "You sure? It's hot. Hot like you.". Ugh! When I got to my parents place and opened up the sandwich, there was no tomato. Just jalapeno. That's what happens when you flirt with customers. You forget the tomato. I didn't feel like going back. A good place to go for a quick bite. Staff is friendly and always ready to help. Bagels are light and fluffy. They know how to toast a bagel to perfection. The one problem being is that the place is in need of a good cleaning and renovation. read more

The bagels are good, but the service is terrible. They run out of kinds of bagels in the morning and then never bake more. They charge prices higher than listed on the board. Great place. We are regulars here. You have to make sure to come early to get a good selection of bagels. They tend to run out by ten. All they have left are plain. They are pretty consistent and the coffee is good. Do recommend. They have the same two Spanish guys constantly working the grill. They are both friendly. read more

I feel like I'm on drugs when I eat a bagel, because whenever I eat the Bagels, they're very tasty, tempting me to eat another one, after another one. Pricing is decent though and the two guys usually at the counter are very nice and friendly, will work hard just to fulfill your order. Probably one of the best bagel in New York. read more

Best bagels in town! If you go in the morning, they're bagels are always fresh and soft. The people there are friendly and work really hard to give us our bagel as quick as possible. I've been to a few bagel places, such as the trendy ones in Williamsburg, and they were horrible. The ones in Williamsburg were dry, hard, and the service was the worst. At one place I had to wait 20 minutes for a plain bagel with butter. Mind you, there was only one person ahead of me. Mr. Bagels is the best. read more

Like the other reviews, communication is not so good. Although the server was friendly and helpful, he toasted my bagel after I said "no, I don't want it toasted" when he asked. I am very happy to have found a decent bagel shop just 2 blocks from my house. I got a whole wheat bagel (quite good) with the lox cream cheese, which was very fresh, but not enough salmon for me. Overall very affordable, convenient and good. I also got the "100% Columbian Coffee" which seemed a bit watery to me. read more

Great spot for a quick breakfast and coffee. They serve sandwiches as well but I've never had one so I can't comment on it. But the bagels are good. There are muffins and cookies as well. Definitely worth a try if you need something quick and tasty. read more

It's good when there is no line. But i stopped going because I can not continue to stand and stand and stand because they can't staff appropriately. Maybe it doesn't pay to hire more, maybe the rush hours are too short, I don't know, but I have left because the line was too long and not moving, or have just not tried to wait because it was so bad. One Saturday I stood for a good ten minutes, and still got no attention, and then noticed the coffee was out as well anyway. Another time I waited a good five minutes, then someone came in speaking Spanish and cut and the guy behind the counter started helping them and of course they were ordering a bunch of complicated items. the bagels are good but the customer service isn't that great. i usually get the tuna which is good (thus the two stars). i agree with most of the reviewers that the ability to communicate is difficult. i also feel like i've been overcharged a few times for toppings. in ridgewood there aren't many bagel options, unfortunately. read more

The flavor of the bagels are great. However, as a place called Mr. BAGEL I don't understand how you run out of bagels mid-day. Ive gone here a bunch of times and this happened to me twice. Warning- the store closes at 3 and I once made the mistake of passing by here around 2 and they were sold out of everything and the staff didn't seem to care. They were already putting up the chairs and mopping. Another time it was around 11 am! How do you run out of bagels at 11am?! I almost forgot to mention I went in at 10 expecting some bagels and they were just putting them in the oven and toId me to wait half hour. Sigh. I love bagels and frequent bagel shops everywhere I go in NYC and NJ and never seen this happen. Most bagel places encourage customers to buy bagels and are making more bagels in the back in case they run out of bagels. I really want to like this place Bc the bagels are actually delicious..
