I was pretty excited to try such a highly rated bagel place in Queens but in the end I was rather whelmed, not overwhelmed. We got two everything bagels, the Sophia Bianca and the pastrami/egg/cheese. The former was not worth the try. The avocado was rather firm and difficult to eat, which was a shame. The latter was actually quite nice, with thick pieces of pastrami in a lovely atmosphere of cheese/egg. The bagels were a bit heavy but not so much so that I really minded. And the portions were what you would expect in a good way. I found the menu a bit difficult. For a place with "bagel" in the name, when you try to order ahead there aren't that many dishes with actual bagels available as an option. You can probably order almost any of the sandwiches as bagels in person, but I found it strange that this is not true when you order online. There are a ton of "sandwich" options I would have explored more if this were the case. read more

It was recent where I read that Middle Village Bagels were rated as having the "best" bagels in Queens. I can't say I disagree with that very bold claim. MVB does have incredible bagels. The bagel outer layer has enough crust to remind you that bagels should have a thin layer of resistance when you first bite into it. Then comes the very soft, bouncy, yet mildly chewy interior. To those who "scoop" out the bagel, don't even bother coming here...just get it from your supermarket. We came on a busy Sunday morning and we still got our food quick. We got the turkey egg and cheese on a garlic bagel and a pastrami egg and cheese on a sesame bagel. Within 5 minutes of ordering, we got our food and headed to Juniper Park (down the block). I live minutes from Utopia Bagels (which are still very good) but I will definitely make the trek out here more often from now on as long as MVB upholds the service, food quality, and atmosphere. read more

Not so much in Middle Village as it's more ethnically suited for loaves of bread, cakes, pastries, pies and alike. I believe Middle Village Bagels is only one of two bagel spots in the entire town. "Everything bagel, lightly toasted with jalapeno cream cheese". The young counter fellow had such a big smile on him as he scribbled my order, not that he couldn't remember, he wanted to make it exact. With a pen poked period, he then tucked the writing instrument behind his ear and vanished with the tear of wax paper. Chatting with the register gal, I dropped a dollar in the tip jar as I always do anywhere I go, she looked at me, smiled broadly and thanked me. Why don't people tip more regularly at bagel shops? In a bar, they flip a cap or perform a 10 second pour and they always get a dollar at a minimum. Should not the cutting, toasting, spreading, wrapping and bagging receive at least the same? I believe that it does. A beauty of a bagel, shiny egg wash crunchy outside, not over populated by the Everythings ingredients. A perfect schmear of cream cheese as too little is just so noticeable and in bad form. Recently moved to the area so Middle Village Bagels has sort of become my go-to bagel spot. Prices are reasonable, food is tasty, and portions are good. Sandwiches are also pretty good too. Is it the best bagel I've had in Queens? No. My heart still goes to Utopia Bagels in Whitestone. But they do a decent job and I can pick up an order and be back home eating it with 30 minutes. Placed an order of two dozen mixed bagels for work. They were ready on time, warm and smelled good. After getting to work, I noticed they were only plain and sesame. Maybe I got the wrong order. The texture of the bagels were almost gummy and with no hole. I could not eat a whole bagel because it tasted uncooked and I LOVE all kinds of bread. Normally 24 bagels at work last 24 seconds before they all disappear. Let's just say there was over a dozen untouched bagels left at the end of the day and 4 of my coworkers teased me about how bad they were. Embarrassing. Anyway, I decided to try this place again and bought myself breakfast: 2eggs, turkey and cheese on Kaiser roll. I wear glasses but.. omg I needed a magnifying glass to find the turkey and cheese. I did not taste them at all. The egg had no taste and I'm not even sure it was 2 eggs. Roll was flattened to width of a dime. Yep so, I'm not going there again. I encountered THREE different employees in this establishment today and each one was ruder than the previous one. I was just looking at the menu and the Asian girl yelled at me told me that I couldn't order there, to go to the other side. When I went to place my order the guy behind the counter said "what do you want?" Then another guy ripped my receipt from my hand! Now back to the Asian girl, when I went to pay and I put my drinks down on the counter, she told me to "stop, you're going to fast!" All I did was put my two drinks on the counter?!?
