If you want to eat half empty tacos go there ( $4 / small taco with big tortillas and nothing inside of it) not that they just lifted prices double or triple after Corona , but amount of food you get is very minimal. My husband & I were looking for a place to eat a good Mexican breakfast and we happened to drive by and outside he noticed that the building had homemade flour tortillas written outside in red letters so we circled around & gave Wow-Wees Cafe a visit. Well, wow-wee we're not disappointed. He ordered the 4 cheese enchilada plate & a chorizo & egg taco. I ordered the Woo-Wee Special that came w/a small menudo, 2 over medium eggs, a small portion of barbacoa, refried beans, & potato....it was the perfect amount. The owners and staff here are extremely courteous and can COOK great food while remaining thorough in keeping the place clean and well maintained. I order the Large Menudo about once/twice a week from this location and they never disappoint. Always friendly, and the prices are very affordable for the size of the meals. Their flour tortillas are very large but they give you the smallest amount of filling! I got a potato, bacon, and egg taco and when I bit into it, it was super dry. It was about 90% potato and there were like 3 tiny specks of bacon. I brought it back to the counter and they said it looked fine and that was the right amount of meat and if I wanted more then they would have to charge me extra. Wow Wee's serves authentic and inexpensive Mexican food. Their large breakfast tacos will get you full quick however if you're really hungry you can go up to their XL option. The barbacoa tacos were hit at our table. If you have time this little hole in the wall restaurant is a nice stop to enjoy some breakfast while in San Marcos. read more

One lone lady trying her best to keep up with the customers while some kid at the register (owners son?) sat on his ass while orders piled up on the slide. He couldn't be bothered with the menial task of delivering food to the tables. Then when you try and talk to him to pay the tab it is clear this kid is just plan lost. Now the really bad part...the food. Huevos rancheros were utterly inedible. The sauce was watery and devoid of any flavor. It was as if the cook was adding water to stretch it out to last. Mine was also missing the corn tortilla under the eggs. The diced potatoes again had no flavor and had nothing mixed in with them (red or green peppers? Onion? Salt?). The refried beans were a mess. No texture. They were more like bean purée. Now THEY had flavor, just not a good one. The over easy eggs were cooked perfect. The only difference my companion had was the cherizo and eggs. Over the top greasy and no real flavor. This place has a reputation for selling these monster size burritos and maybe that's what we should have ordered...or maybe that's all they should be selling? I live in San Marcos as I attend Texas State University. I would say this is one of the best Mexican resteraunts in San Marcos. They do not offer a typical Mexican food menu but rather they focus on tacos, large tacos. I only ever go here for breakfast tacos and they never let me down. The wait time is never too long, and their customer service isn't too great but who cares, the tacos are great. If you are really hungry order the XL! read more

This place is close to where I live so my boyfriend and I decided to give it a try. San Marcos isn't known for their outstanding Mexican food so we didn't go in with high expectations. Place: There wasn't anything particular about their decor. A couple of paintings on the wall and a Christmas tree. It was just like another hole in the wall kind of place and that didn't bother me at all. Service: Our waitress was prompt and friendly. Answered my questions in Spanish and that was refreshing even though she was able to speak English. However we did have to ask for chips and salsa. I normally expect complimentary Chips and Salsa in a Mexican restaurant. It's definitely a perk I look forward to. Food: The chips were a bit stale like they had been out for a while. An upside to that is that they were served warm. I really love warm chips with my salsa. The salsa was okay. Not something to remember. I eat corn tortillas and when the waitress said they are made by hand I immediately became excited. The tortillas were thin and uniform almost as if it would be impossible to be made by hand. But dang it they were good. They were much better than the H-E-B brand I buy. I ordered soft tacos. The meat tasted good. I am not sure what seasoning they used but I did notice some onion and maybe a bell pepper or jalapeno sliver. The tacos were satisfying. As for the rice and beans they were average. We(2a4c) stopped for breakfast around 10am..the service was pretty okay they didn't over bother us and were always in sight as we were eating and they did warn us about the super wobbly table(but also why did they even have it still..it was very unusable!) the potatoes in my tacos were cooked well.. however they didn't have barbacoa (which was the reason I picked them so bummer)along with a few other items.. they also didn't have Dr Pepper (not as big a deal but double bummer).. the bean and cheese portions in the bean cheese potato taco were way under for the size of the tortilla like they use a soup spoon to portion them out or something.. the soda fridge didn't close properly which bothered me..the eating area was moderately clean.. and the womens bathroom was so atrocious(I feel like the amount of standing while the few tables ate could have been used for bathroom upkeep although it needs a whole overhaul to start).. am I enough of a garbage person that I would eat their food? yes... but if seeing how grungy a place is kills your appetite than I suggest you try somewhere else read more

Wow Wee's is the perfect place to go if you're craving some homemade Mexican/TexMex brunch. They have delicious menudo, barbacoa, and HUGE 3lb enchiladas!
