10/10 - Blue dahlia is one of my favorites. I was so sad when the Austin location closed. I recently moved out near San Marcos and when I realized this little gem was there, it's become my go to brunch spot. The open face sandwiches are delicious. They also make an incredible waffle on the brunch menu! They staff is kind, friendly, and fast! The vibe is European bistro in a historic Texas building. I love the exposed brick and local art hung around the room. Highly recommend trying this place out if you are in the area! read more

My absolute favorite when I am in town. My mom and I love sitting in the secret garden. Their mimosas are so good. I get the savory crepes and my mom gets the Smoked Salmon Tartine. Every single time. We did get the biscuits and gravy and they are delightful. We love this place so much I wanted my entire family to do breakfast there after our wedding. It's a wonderful spot. Thursday 5:30pm arrival with my partner in crime. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were sat in the secret back garden, which is an absolutely beautiful space with overhead trellises covered in grape vines![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our waitress attended to us quickly and efficiently (we were the only folks in the garden at the time!). We ordered cold herbal tea, a meat and cheese board (1/2 off for happy hour 4-7pm!!!), and the sushi grade seared tuna entree. The meet and cheese boards came quickly and were HUGE. Way more than the two of us could eat, but had a ton of variety and were accompanied by jam, pickles, mustard, candied nuts, olives and fresh baked bread. Honestly could have made a meal of this alone! The tuna came shortly after, and was seasoned perfectly! There were some areas of the filet that were quite chewy and stringy... not sure if this was just the cut of fish, or if the preparation could have fixed this. The vegetables on the side were a bit underwhelming, but they paired decently with the tuna. We left full and happy, and I look forward to returning to try their meatloaf and open faced sandwiches! Great lunch spot! We ordered the french dip and the ravioli and enjoyed every bit of it. The food came out pretty quickly and everything tasted fresh. Ashlyn took care of us and was so kind and attentive. Probably wouldn't order the peach daiquiri again, tasted more like a classic margarita. read more

The soup of the day was a Shrinp Bisque which was served with a baguette. This was followed by a Three Meat Platter (cured meats with olives, pickles and walnuts) which altogether made for a perfect winter meal. Excellent customer service was also noteworthy. We'll be sure to come back. read more

I was shopping in the area and decided to try this place as I saw it pop up on yelp. The day was beautiful and I decided to eat out on the patio. I ordered the pomegranate lemonade as it was recommended by the very kind waitress. I ordered teh mushroom crepes and it was ok but as I am Latina and like spice I asked for cholula sauce which I was glad they had. I ate it fast and it was all good. Unfortunately there were 2 dogs there that made the area smell like wet dog. Don't get me wrong I love dogs but I feel if you are going to take dogs they should be freshly bathed pups! Second time at this place and it deserves all the stars! Service is always good. Attentive and fast. Food is really fresh and tasty. First time I had the coq au vin. Let's talk about Blue Dahlia for a minute. It is perfectly located in downtown San Marcus, inside a quaint historical building. The atmosphere is very inviting with an old European feel and there wasn't a wait at all due to coming during the week. Still, Blue Dahlia was very comfortable and inviting. They serve breakfast/lunch and many of their sandwiches are served open-faced. Overall, a decent place for a lunch stop, but there was room for improvement. We ordered the Hummus and Tuna Tartines (a form of opened faced sandwich as per their menu) to share. I liked the hummus sandwich but was not impressed by the Tuna. The taste was on the bland side and the tuna was dry. The sandwiches don't have any sides and chips are $2.75 extra. We had to order salads to complement the meal. My pesto dressing was too tart, and I did not enjoy it. I also felt the prices for high a sandwich without sides. A largely enjoyable experience, but not an outstanding one. read more

The infamous Blue Dahlia Bistro. The spot we always see but never venture in due to us. After a holiday card photo session, we decided to finally go. We started with a Screwdriver and a pint sized White Peach mimosa. Both were amazing and the perfect amount of heavy-handed pours. Would definitely go back just to try more of their cocktail menu. For entrées we got a Parisian Sandwhich and the Salmon and Eggs Benedict. The sandwich was simple; baguette, ham, and a tomato, but the simplicity of the sandwich made it the perfect brunch item. It was so good we tried to recreate it for dinner. The salom on the Benedict tasted fresh and added the much needed flavoring agent to the somewhat underwhelming hollandaise sauce but would still order it again. We decided to sit on the front patio. Of course, you could sit inside, or if you are so daring, venture back into the Secret Garden. However, I'd be curious on being forgotten about if I decided to sit back there. Local San Marcos artist Rene Perez painted everything throughout the restaurant, which made it feel more like a San Marcos staple. read more

This is a quaint option in the heart of San Marcos. The menu offers great options for a bistro lover.
