Earlier this week I wanted to put an offer in on a used car, but I wanted to have an independent mechanic go over the vehicle before I made the purchase. The car was located far away from my regular mechanic, so I called Wrench Patrol. Their service was extremely good. They were very professional when I called, and arranged to have their mechanic show up at the dealership first thing the next day. I got a comprehensive vehicle report emailed to me minutes after the inspection was completed. The report was very detailed and easy to understand. I also appreciated that they took the time to contact me shortly after the inspection had been done to ask me if I had any questions about the report. That was a really nice unexpected follow up. The report gave me the confidence to put in my offer for the car, and had they discovered any issues, it would have provided some leverage to renegotiate the price. I decided to ring up WrenchPatrol to see if they could help me replace my dead battery (car has been sitting in the garage over the summer) and change out the front and rear brakes (pads and rotors). The cost for the work was a little more expensive than what I received from a local shop, but the convenience of having them do the work at home was worth the expense (I.e. Not have to worry about jumping start my car in the garage and drive out). Given the fixes needed, it would take approximately three hours, so I set up an appointment for the next morning. I found out that WrenchPatrol had been bought out by InstaMek, which made me a little anxious given that the company had some less than stellar feedback outside BC. Nevertheless, I went ahead with the repairs considering the condition of my car and the inconvenience of other options. I received a text the next morning letting me know the mechanic's estimated time of arrival. Omar arrived right on time and after a quick chat about what to expect, he went right to work. After 2.5 hours, Omar gave me a quick rundown of what he did as well as the general condition of the car. He let me know that he didn't replace the rear brakes since they were a different of type of brake than the parts that he brought with him (my mistake). Instead he just inspected the rear brakes and said that the total cost would reflect the change in work (no parts and labour for the rear brake installation). He also let me know that I should replace the front shocks at some point and that he inflated one of my tires, which was leaking air and should be replaced. Finally, he took my car for a test drive around the block to ensure it was good working order. All in all, Omar was prompt, professional, honest and courteous. He explained what work was done, thoroughly answered all my questions, and was very accommodating. I note that the final invoice did not include the change to the work order, but InstaMek has indicated that they will refund me the difference, which I should see in the coming days. read more

I used Wrench Patrol recently for a pre-purchase car inspection. They were able to accommodate my and the seller's schedule on very short notice and, for an extra fee, for an evening appointment. I was very impressed with the level of professionalism and tact that the mechanic had, and he spent more than the estimated time looking at every aspect of the car, missing nothing. We were able to get a detailed verbal report at the end of the inspection which really helped us decide on the used car purchase, and by early the following day, we received a detailed written report and an estimate for the repair costs. How can I even summarize this nightmare? I'll sum up the parts I thought were most problematic. Prepaid for the used car inspection service online and did not hear back for days. Only until I contacted the Company via telephone was I met with a "it was lost in the cracks" response with respect to my transaction. Fine, I'll try to take the reins. Booked the appointment and was set for the weekend, all the while mentioning my sole purpose for getting the inspection service, to see the condition of the car as it was sitting. The weekend comes and I am called half an hour prior to the appointment by the mechanic who says they are running 20 minutes late. As I would not be there, I called the people who were being inconvenienced and updated them. Not more than five minutes later, I am called by the mechanic again saying it will be 40 minutes and asking whether or not that is okay. Again, I state I will not be there (despite informing them during my initial phone call days ago) and that the mechanic should contact the location himself. Shortly thereafter, I am contacted by the administrator, stating that the mechanic actually went to an entirely different city than what was appointed. Skipping further details, we change the appointment to two days later. Lo and behold, I am told that the one sole purpose of the service, it's sitting condition and status of seals, etc., requested by me could not be delivered. I prepaid for a service that was never delivered, even though I was assured it would be covered in the inspection. Skipping more details, like being pestered for payment upwards of four times AFTER PRE-paying online, I am still unclear why I bothered to pay for this unprofessional, misdirected service. I will not make that mistake again. read more

Wow, these guys are fantastic. My power steering died, I contacted them in the morning and they got back to me promptly and booked the assessment at my home after work. The fact that they operate outside of regular business hours is a real bonus for me - I didn't have to take any extra time off work to deal with my car repair. They provided an initial quote over the phone for the callout and labour to assess the issue. My mechanic Omar was right on time (even though they provide a 1 hr window to allow for traffic etc. he arrived right at the beginning of the window), he didn't mind having a look at my car in my dimly lit underground parking garage, and figured out what the problem was right away. He determined what parts were needed, contacted head office who quickly provided me with another quote for the parts and labour, then headed off to the local parts store to pick them up. He returned quickly and got to work. By the end of the evening my car was working properly again! All within the same day that I had called in, and without having to get my car towed anywhere or take any time off work. They're also open on the weekends. I would highly recommend this service to anyone who doesn't want to worry about getting their car towed, or can't take time off work to deal with the logistics of getting your car repaired. It will cost a bit more than a garage because they are coming to you, but in my opinion it's worth it for the convenience and efficiency. These guys are real professionals - both Omar (my mechanic) and the person that I dealt with at the office were friendly, efficient and gave me excellent service. read more

Wrench Patrol was easy to book and came all the way out to UBC to do a pre-purchase inspection for me. The mechanic was a little late but its understandable given the maze that is UBC. He apologized and was very kind. The inspection was detailed and thorough. Caught a lot of problems with the car I would not have been able to and saved me from over paying. I have two cars that have been sitting in the garage for over 2 years. Both of them couldn't start. I called Wrench Patrol and they sent a technician to perform a diagnostic on both vehicles. The technician did a very detailed check-up and walked me through every part. They sent me an estimate the next day and I had a chat with one of the technicians who advised me on what needed to be done. The following week I had a technician to do all the work necessary to bring one of the cars back to driving condition (the other vehicle was not worth the repair). At such a hectic time of the year when I don't have time to get to the dealer or even an oil change shop, this is such a convenient service. First off I will say my first experience with Wrench Patrol was excellent. The mechanic they sent was professional and very competent. Because of my first experience I tried them again. My vehicle would not start and the mechanic they sent could not figure it out. They charged me $160 to tell me they could not help me. I understand that they are a business and that they spent time trying to diagnose the problem.....my frustration lies in that I had another mobile mechanic diagnose the problem in about 30minutes and actually fixed it for the same price. I spoke with the owner and while pleasant he made it clear that he believes time equals money. Even if the mechanic they sent was not competent........I would not recommend this company for anything more complicated than an oil change. read more

Initially, I would have rated my first visit as 5*. Iain the owner is extremely personable, professional, and definitely displayed exceptional customer service on all aspects of the visit, including driving me home as it was Friday and my car would need to be looked at Monday. The receptionist also was very kind, clear, and professional. Here is my issue. I had been out of the country for over a month and my battery was dead as a doornail. No big deal. The starter was what needed to be replaced, and I had mentioned that prior to my car being seen by a mechanic at this shop. First, the price quoted was rather high. The receptionist got it down by $20. Which I was appreciative of. After we agreed on the price and to go ahead with the repair, the mechanic insists I need a NEW battery at $140. The thing is, my battery was new...less than 5months old. I again explained the car hadn't been started or driven in about 6 weeks, and a boost would be fine. The mechanic was adament my car battery wouldn't hold a charge and due to me declining a new battery if my car were to die on the way home, I would be responsible for towing it. Since the one I have is on warrenty why would I waste money on one if this one was in fact faulty I would be given a new one free of charge. I payed for my service ($516... FOR A STARTER on a 98 Accord) and received a boost from the mechanic who said "I'd be shocked if this thing makes it home". I am not new to automobiles, and knew the best thing to do would be to let it run for a bit to charge the battery before I departed their shop. The mechanic just sat near one of their mobile service vehicles and just stared at me. I felt extremely unwelcome and uncomfortable. His rude and argumentative type attitude left a bad taste in my mouth and would make me not recommend this shop to my friends, family, or coworkers. And, as I thought....NOTHING WRONG with my battery. I wasted time and gas to have it checked at Canadian Tire, and it is 100% working fine. Glad I trusted my instincts and didn't get ripped off on something that I didn't need. It is a shame to have such great customer service on all aspects, except from the ones doing the actual work. WrenchPatrol were amazing to deal with. We have just moved to Vancouver from overseas. We needed a pre-purchase inspection on a vehicle we were looking at buying. I spoke to Jessica in the office a few times and she was always friendly, informative and followed through on everything. We had Vince attend to inspect the car and he was absolutely awesome. He made a difficult situation (created by the seller) a lot easier. Being two females new to the country, we were quite overwhelmed but Vince went out of his way to ensure we were informed about the condition of the car. Wrench Patrol was great, my car died in my work parking lot, I figured it was the spark plugs, I emailed them in the afternoon one day and Jessica called me within 20 minutes we set up a time for the next day. When the mechanic Jason showed up, he got to work right away, looked my car over and took it for a drive once it was fixed to make sure there were no other problems. He suggested I get my valves adjusted and before I could make it back upstairs to my office at work I had my receipt sent to me and a quote from the office for a valve adjustment. Awesome service! I made a mistake when doing some maintenance on my car, and I was going to have to get my car towed to the shop in order to fix it. On a whim, I googled 'mobile mechanic Vancouver' and found these guys. I am very happy with the service we received. Prices are reasonable -- you pay a bit of a premium for the convenience factor of having someone come to your place. Taking my car into the dealership for service is a logistical nightmare with two small kids, plus they almost always end up having to keep it for longer than they originally estimate. All you have to do here is schedule an appointment, and the mechanic shows up. In my case, there ended up being more to the job than they originally thought, but they were able to come back the very next morning to finish up, so I've no complaints about that. We will be using these guys for all of our routine maintenance tasks from now on. It is SO convenient! read more
