About 36 months ago my 2007 Chevy Avalanche had a transmission that was in need of major repairs. I went to Wright Transmissions and talked to the owner and they rebuilt my transmission and I got a 12 month warranty. I have now driven the truck probably 36,000 over the last 36 months or so and I never had any problems at all with the transmission rebuild. No oil leaks, no adjustments and no problems. Drives like when I purchased it new in 2007. Wright Transmission was recommended to me by a auto mechanic friend who said Wright Transmission was the best transmission shop in the Clear Lake Area. The price quoted was very good. They didn't jack the price up. I paid them exactly what the quoted for the repair estimate. I would certainly recommend them for a transmission repair. So, I thought my transmission was going out, after the dealer told me 100% I absolutely needed a "brand new" transmission - I met Chad. I asked him to just take a ride with me to see if I was crazy for the way my SUV was driving or if it really did need a new transmission. After keeping it overnight and taking it for an extensive test drive, instead of charging me massive amounts of money and taking advantage of me, Chad was honest. I brought my vehicle to this shop after they were recommended by my mechanic. I have a 1991 Camaro that would not shift beyond 2nd gear. I was informed up front, by Chad, that they were busy and it might be a few days until they could get to my car. I was okay with this because I wasn't in a rush. The following week they contacted me and said they needed to pull the transmission. I agreed and they let me know later it needed a rebuild. The quote was a bit of a surprise. It was $500-1000 more than most shops I had spoke with. I decided to get a "heavy duty" build and was told it would take three days. After that I stopped hearing from the shop except for a call asking about how the transmission was wired. I called the shop about 6 times over the next month. I was told "we are busy, we will get to your car tomorrow" and "these old car are not as easy to work on as everyone thinks". One day short of a month from the dayI agreed on the rebuild, I called and was told they needed to order another core and start over. The following day Chad called me and said my car was ready and would not need another rebuild. He said my timing was advanced to far forward and that made the car die sometimes. That was strange because I had never had any issues with the motor or the car stopping. Chad recommended I get the timing adjusted and then bring it back so he could fine tune the transmission. I picked up the car and took it to a mechanic. They told me the timing was a few degrees advanced, but that was normal. They said the problem was my transmission would not "lockout" and it was leaking transmission fluid. They told me I probably needed a new torque converter and possibly a rebuild on the transmission. I told them it had just been rebuilt and they recommended I take it back to the transmission shop. They set the timing back to stock and I called Chad to go get the car. He went and got the car and immediately took it back to the mechanic. Chad told me the timing was the issue and that the car was only leaking about a teaspoon of transmission fluid at a time. He acted like it was no big deal. The mechanic basically reset my timing to where it had been previously because the motor ran better that way and sent it back to Wright's. Three more weeks passed by and Chad called me and said my car was ready. I got my son to pick it up. He had to bring a gallon of gas with him because it was out of gas. I delivered it with half a tank! I guess they did a lot of test driving? They also said the horn got stuck so they pulled off the horn button and left it sitting on the front seat. Also the hatch back was open and would not close. None of these problems existed prior to drop off. When I got a chance to drive the car the motor ran great (like it always had before), but it would die when put in reverse. I would not die in neutral or drive, it idled like it was supposed to. Again it was leaking transmission fluid on my driveway! By this point I had lost patience and suspected that Wrights wasn't the right shop for an older model car. I asked for a refund and offered to take the car to another shop to have the transmission removed and sent back to them so I could get a working unit put in. Chad got defensive and told me "that isn't how it works", " the world isn't perfect"," things don't always turn out like you want" , " we are really busy and are trying to hire more help" and finally " if we can't fix It nobody can". He told me I could do whatever I wanted but if I took the car to another shop it would void my warranty. I tried to explain to him that they never fixed my transmission in the first place. He also brought up that I said I wasn't in a rush. That was two months ago! Things change and I need an extra vehicle now. My situation now is I've spent 3k and have a halfway fixed transmission that is leaking transmission fluid all over the place. I really don't think Wrights is capable of fixing this car. I understand the world isn't perfect, but if you hire an expert and pay a premium you should get pretty close to what you want. Chad did text me back and offered to send a wrecker to get the car. My fear is that at two years or 24k miles this transmission will fall apart and I'll be stuck with another rebuild. read more

GREAT, FAST & AFFORDABLE!!! Chad and the guys at Wright transmission in league city are the best and most reliable with their warranties. They've done a 1996 impala ss for me with 235k miles on it back in 2012, They installed a shift kit a transmission cooler and rebuilt the transmission so beautifully it felt like a new car and it only took 1.5-2 days. Chad has also done a few astro and safari work vans for my boss and are still running strong and recently in December 2016 I had him rebuild a trans and install a shift kit and new motor and transmission mounts for my 1996 silverado regular cab with 312k miles and it shifts strong and tires screech in second and third if I'm on it hard! I felt it was important for a Yelper to do a review of a Transmission Place. Lets face it, transmission problems are generally bad news, expensive repairs, and there is little that the common person can do to be sure of the diagnosis and service they are getting. Nobody is going to be giving 5 star reviews for having just spent $2500. How can you really know you can trust them. It is a tough situation. I got two opinions before going in, so I knew I was probably looking at a full transmission job. All that being said, I had two mechanics, one a friend, tell me this is where they take their cars. The first diagnosis is free. If they have to take it out and apart, it is a $389 charge to take it apart and do a full internal diagnosis. Then, if you don't want it fixed, there is a smaller charge to put it back together again without fixing, or they will roll the charges into the repair if you want it fixed. I think this is fairly common, but the fact that they are up front about disassemble/reassemble charges is a good thing. Also, the Honda dealer was going to be over $5000, later reduced, but not near $2500. I needed the full rebuild. It is good so far. Chad Wright was friendly, patient, and courteous. It did require more days in the shop than I expected, about 7 work days. Also, the shops will tell you the damage is less if you bring the car in earlier rather than driving on it. Followup: they asked us to bring the car back at 500 miles, a good thing. While they said this should be a 10 minute thing while you wait, the key was difficult to remove from the ignition after the new transmission and we wanted that adjusted. However, we left it one day and they did not get to it. We called to check and the owner had left early and did not leave word as to its status. The mechanic had to call the owner and then call us back that it was not ready (leaving staff to deal with frustrated employees). We needed the care, so we picked it up. Tried to return several times, but was told they were busy. We finally got it in. They did call later to say it was ready. When we picked it up about 5, the owner was gone and the mechanic knew nothing about it. It did not at first appear on the lot, but was later found parked next door. The mechanic did not know if they adjusted anything and the key was still not coming out smoothly. So, they don't schedule or communicate as well as they should, we are not sure they adjusted anything, and we had to make extra inconvenient trips there. I can't tell you what a relief it was for me to find Wright Transmission! My Jeeps engine light kept coming on & finally wouldn't go away no matter what we tried. I went to an automotive store in the area & was referred to Chad Wright. He was honest AND fair & you know how hard that is to find in this field, esp. for the ladies:) He evaluated the problem quickly & explained it all to me & only charged me a very reasonable labor charge. Took our family Subaru in for a transmission repair. Spent over 2K. Transmission was slipping and making noise after a few months. Had to have Wright Transmission repair again and wait several weeks. Took a long trip to Ohio and then a similar situation came up and our transmission was shot again. We couldn't drive the car home and Wright told us to tow it (over 1300 miles) or bring it back for a 3rd repair. We couldn't have it in a 3rd time plus towing charges for a terrible job. We ended up trading the Subaru (lost $$$) in and bought a new car. Very disappointing and highly not recommended. read more

I completely have to follow suit with the comments below. Such an honest company - Chad and the guys were so helpful. I paid over $300 at the dealership to get an issue checked out, only to have it happen again 2 weeks later. I went to other local shops that "estimated a $400 fix" without even looking at my vehicle. Finally, I went to Wright Transmission - they ran their tests and told me exactly which part to order, and suggested I take it next door to be installed. With the service they provided, I'll definitely trust their recommendation! Wish I knew them name of the place and I'd give them a shout out too! read more

I really don't like to complain but the poor workmanship and horrible customer service from Wright transmissions has to be told. I called Chad their at the shop and they had a tow truck come to pick up my truck, which was great and then it started. Chad called me and gave me a quote on my needed transmission repair and I said great fix it and can it be done by Friday. He said sure. So Thursday I called for an update and my number had been blocked from the phone line. So I used a friends phone and called and they said that he had not even started on it. Keep in mind they had had it since Monday morning. So no go for Friday. Well I called and complained and said that they would try and have it done by Friday evening, no go I'm going out of town. So I said Monday will be the earliest I can get there. Monday rolls around and my wife drives me to the shop and low and behold the truck is not ready. Also the battery is dead in the car and when asked why the battery that is six months old is dead he says " I probably left a light on. Why? No reason. So I drive to work look down at the dash and the speedometer and rpm is not working, not a problem before. Okay crude. Well I drive to work and get a call on my cell from Chad and they forget to put the master cylinder on. So the next day I take it by and they put it on and check the instrument cluster panel, tell me some stuff and I'm on my way. So long story short my instrument panel is out, my brand new ac unit stopped working, the brand new battery is dead and the bearings on the passenger and driver side are out. But all I needed was my transmission fixed. Word to the wise, find another car shop. read more
