I contacted the San Marino branch to ask about the increase, and Branch Manager Ann Train returned my call. Unfortunately, the conversation was extremely disappointing. Her attitude was rude and dismissive. She essentially told me, "Pay the new price or leave," and explained that VIP customers are given first priority, even if they do not currently have a safe deposit box. The way she handled the situation made me feel that loyal, long-term customers no longer matter. To make matters worse, she abruptly hung up during the conversation. After more than four decades of banking with this institution, I expected professionalism and respect, but this experience was the complete opposite. The situation did not end there. A few days later, I received a call from Ada, a supervisor from the Arcadia branch, who told me that if I could not afford the box, I should "get a cheaper box." I explained that affordability was not the issue -- the issue was the unreasonable increase and the poor way customers were being treated. I found her comment insulting and highly unprofessional. Later, I spoke with Kevin, another supervisor from the San Marino branch. He had a much better attitude, but unfortunately no one provided a real explanation, resolution, or showed any genuine effort to investigate the situation. After checking with other banks, including Citi Bank, I found that similar safe deposit boxes are available for significantly lower annual fees. East West Bank is charging double or more compared to other institutions, which is unreasonable. If you are considering banking with East West Bank, think twice. I regret remaining loyal to this institution for over 40 years only to be treated this way.
